Learn the basics at these free computer classes!

If you or someone you know is new to computers, using the Internet and email, or would just like to brush up on the Microsoft Office 2007 programs, you’ll definitely want to sign up for the free basic computer classes at the Collierville Burch Library.

The Lucius E. & Elsie C. Burch, Jr., Library is located at 501 Poplar View Pkwy, Collierville, TN 38017, which is only about two and a half miles from our apartment community at Bailey Creek.

The available classes for February are as follows:

Basic Internet — Sign up begins 1/31 for class held on 2/15
Basic Email — Sign up begins 2/7 for class held 2/20
Microsoft Excel 2007 Parts 1&2 — Sign up begins 2/7 for classes held 2/22 and 2/29

Register in person at the library beginning at noon on the noted registration days. Classes are held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the days indicated. For more information, call 901.457.2601.

There are a few new restaurants in the downtown Collierville area of Memphis with many different flavors and styles. However, if you want a taste of good old down home southern cooking then there’s only one place in all of Collierville for you and that’s The Silver Caboose Restaurant and Soda Fountain.

Nestled in between several quaint antique shops and a few small novelty stores you’ll find the Silver Caboose. Step through its doors and you immediately notice that this is not your run-of-the-mill fast food place. As Super Bowl Sunday draws closer and closer, it’s time to start making plans as to what you’ll be doing for the big game. Will you be stopping by a friend’s house for the evening or will you be throwing a small get together at your Bailey Creek apartment? If you like to play host or hostess, check out some of these creative party ideas from eHow:

Make some “bad call bricks” for your party guests to throw at the TV when a displeasing call is made. This way your guests can express their feelings without doing any real damage. You can find all the supplies you need to make these at the Hobby Lobby located at 950 W Poplar Ave, Collierville, TN 38017, less than two miles from our Bailey Creek community.
If you know that several of your guests will be cheering for opposite teams, you can “draw” an imaginary line down the center of the room with masking tape. Decorate each side with the respective colors.
Before the game starts, have everyone write down which team they think will win and what the score will be. At the end of the game, award a silly prize like a big football piñata to the closest guesser.

What is Your Soundtrack When Cleaning Your Bailey Creek Apartment?

Does music help you do dishes?

I hate to clean, as I have mentioned in past blogs, or at least I’ll say that I’m not good at it. I’ve heard people say lots of things that should help get me motivated, like rewarding myself when it’s done, breaking it up into 15 minute intervals, and on and on. The only idea that really stuck is having a little solo dance party. Sound lame? Well, if you’re anything like me you’ll actually find it (gasp) fun.

With that in mind, I thought it might be cool to talk about some of the songs you could include in your personal cleaning soundtrack. It can be pretty tough to put one together, but I thought it was pretty funny how one blogger talked about what she considers to be the most embarrassing and cringe-worthy songs to dance and sing along to. What do you think she’s going to say?

That’s right; she chose Milli Vanilli for her example. Remember them? In her opinion, Girl You Know It’s True is so bad that it’s easy to focus more on cleaning than on dancing. Okay, so I probably would have chosen something I considered being good to jam out to, but to each their own. What motivates you to clean, Bailey Creek? If you need some help at least doing a little “fake cleaning” should you need to get things in order in a hurry, read one of our past articles on the subject.

Give Back to the Community by Donating Blood

Donating blood can make a huge difference.

If one of your new year’s resolutions is to get involved in the community and to give back, one great way to do that is to donate blood. Did you know that 90 percent of the people who live in the Mid-South will need a blood transfusion before they turn 70? That’s a very high percentage. Even though there are so many people in need, only about 10 percent of the population donates.

Lifeblood is the Memphis region’s only nonprofit volunteer blood center and is the major supplier of blood and blood components to area hospitals. There are many Lifeblood donation centers throughout the Mid-South, including the Germantown Center. Located at 2095 Exeter, #75, Germantown, TN 38138, this Lifeblood center is approximately a 13 minute drive from our community at Bailey Creek.

New Years Eve is one day away and all on our mind is entertaining friends and family around us! Whether you are entertaining in your home or at someone else’s, you can’t have a gathering without some yummy finger foods at the center of it all!

Brown Sugar Chicken Bacon Wraps

Fun Food From Fogelman!

Ingredients:

1 1/4 pound skinless, boneless chicken breasts (about 4 breasts)

1 pound sliced bacon

2/3 cup brown sugar

2 TBSP chili powder

1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

It takes about 5-10 minutes, depending on how much of these you are making, to cut chicken into cubes and your bacon into thirds! After all the prep, follow these directions from our friend Paula Deen before setting these in the oven to bake for 30-35 minutes!
