				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h2>Update</h2>
<p>So, I put the SVG icon library up again. Long story short, I can&#8217;t keep my hands of 40K.</p>
<p>###</p>
<p>I think most Warhammer 40.000 fans are very well aware of the current uproar on the updates to the <a href="https://www.games-workshop.com/en-WW/Intellectual-Property-Guidelines">Games Workshop IP Guidelines</a> and their crack down on fan creations. As I understand the need to protect ones IP I simply don&#8217;t understand the lack of appreciating from GW&#8217;s side of having an active &#8211; and amazing &#8211; community.</p>
<p>I have over the last few years added more than 200  Warhammer 40.000 vector icons to the repository in hope of it helping other community members and for the passion of the universe. With the updates and the general way of thinking on GW&#8217;s side I have decided to shut down the repository.</p>
<p>My apologies to the 7.000+ monthly visitors and I hope I will be back once GW sees the light and start to approve what we do for their universe.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1231" src="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/rhino-race-poster-art.jpg" alt="" width="1200" height="555" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/rhino-race-poster-art.jpg 1200w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/rhino-race-poster-art-300x139.jpg 300w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/rhino-race-poster-art-768x355.jpg 768w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/rhino-race-poster-art-1024x474.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>I will also stop working on the <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CM2RDWwnftW/">Rhino racing game</a> I was doing. Nothing big and mostly just to get my hands dirty in <a href="https://unity.com/">Unity</a> and practice some 3D modelling. I just thought it would be a fun little game for people to race a Rhino of the chapter against their friends.</p>
<p>So, I&#8217;ll be stopping 40K related stuff and move on to something else.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Every army needs proper armoury. So I&#8217;ill introducing this into army builder right away.</p>
<p>War gear is created per army. This means that you can have separate armouries for each of your armies, but in case you have two Space marine armies, you need to recreate all war gear again.</p>
<h2>The Armoury page</h2>
<p>At the armoury page you&#8217;ll have a full list of all war gear for each of your armies. You can edit and delete items as well as create new ones.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter wp-image-1105 size-full" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/army-builder-add-war-gear.png" alt="army builder add war gear to your armoury" width="1330" height="462" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/army-builder-add-war-gear.png 1330w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/army-builder-add-war-gear-300x104.png 300w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/army-builder-add-war-gear-768x267.png 768w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/army-builder-add-war-gear-1024x356.png 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1330px) 100vw, 1330px" /></p>
<p>Basic, but hopefully all you need.</p>
<h2>Add war gear to units</h2>
<p>In the add and edit unit box there will be an extra section for adding war gear. You can dynamically add and remove war gear from your units and see the total point cost of your army or battle force update in real time.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1111" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/army-builder-add-war-gear-to-unit.png" alt="Showing your armoury on the add and edit units box" width="960" height="552" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/army-builder-add-war-gear-to-unit.png 960w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/army-builder-add-war-gear-to-unit-300x173.png 300w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/army-builder-add-war-gear-to-unit-768x442.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px" /></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The point cost for each gear item will be added to the units total cost, so a unit of 30 pt + a 5 pt krak grenades upgrade will add 35 pt to your army or battle force.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1106" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/army-builder-units-with-gear.png" alt="army builder units with gear" width="813" height="414" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/army-builder-units-with-gear.png 813w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/army-builder-units-with-gear-300x153.png 300w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/army-builder-units-with-gear-768x391.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 813px) 100vw, 813px" /></p>
<p>There is still a bit of way to go to get all edit and update functions into place, but it&#8217;s slowly moving forward.</p>
<p>Also, check out the earlier Army builder posts:</p>

<p>I&#8217;ve taken the first stab at the interface and design for the Army Builder web app.</p>
<p>My very first mock up was very much Imperium-ish and while I like that, being a Space Marines kinda guy, I want something a bit more embracing of the different faction in the 40K universe.</p>
<p>So I went with the one unifying factor of 40K &#8211; besides grim and dark &#8211; the universe. All factions roams around between the stars and shoot and swing at each other so why not make that the background of the interface? I still like the idea, but it might get a bit too busy when layering unit cards and interface buttons on top.</p>
<p>I was also plying around with different unit card design, trying to make sure I can make use already black <a href="http://bakadesign.dk/warhammer-40-000-icons/">icons</a> I have in the library.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1068" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/army-builder-design-v1.jpg" alt="army builder design v1" width="1000" height="775" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/army-builder-design-v1.jpg 1000w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/army-builder-design-v1-300x233.jpg 300w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/army-builder-design-v1-768x595.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h2>Design version 2: app feel</h2>
<p>So another direction to take this would be a more generic web design. This gives the benefit of cleaner lines and less clutter, but it does become a bit &#8220;flat&#8221;.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1070" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/army-builder-design-v2.jpg" alt="Army builder design v2" width="1000" height="695" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/army-builder-design-v2.jpg 1000w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/army-builder-design-v2-300x209.jpg 300w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/army-builder-design-v2-768x534.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1073" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Army-add-unit.jpg" alt="Army add unit" width="1000" height="1464" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Army-add-unit.jpg 1000w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Army-add-unit-205x300.jpg 205w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Army-add-unit-768x1124.jpg 768w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Army-add-unit-699x1024.jpg 699w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Design is a personal matter but good basic UX is not. So I&#8217;ll try and combine the easy to see, easy to use web app design with a 40K look and feel in the next iteration.</p>
<p>Please leave your thoughts and comments below on which way you would like to see it go.</p>

</div>
<p>I have an idea for a somewhat quick and dirty Warhammer 40.000 army builder.</p>
<p>Instead of trying to create a database of all units with rules and costs from the 40k universe, which I know others try and do better than I ever could, I will try to create a simpler app, where you add your units categorised by type (HQ, Elites etc.)  and enter the point cost yourself. The app will then keep track of the overall cost of course.</p>
<p>Once you have your army entered, it will be saved to your profile and from their you can create Battle Forces ( lists) by selecting from your army and edit and update any units you need to tweak,</p>
<p>So the main features will be, army creation, unit creation and creation of battle forces based on your army.</p>
<h2>1. Army creation</h2>
<p>Not surprisingly, we need to be able to create an army. Here is basically about giving your army a name and a description.</p>
<p>Since this is a free-for-all input, no need to choose faction or lock the army into a specific path.</p>
<p>A couple of quick wireframes on how it could work.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1028" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Army-Buileder-Create-army-255x300.jpg" alt="" width="255" height="300" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Army-Buileder-Create-army-255x300.jpg 255w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Army-Buileder-Create-army-768x905.jpg 768w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Army-Buileder-Create-army.jpg 800w" sizes="(max-width: 255px) 100vw, 255px" />        <img class="alignnone wp-image-1027 size-medium" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Amy-buileder-create-army-255x300.jpg" alt="Amy buileder - create army" width="255" height="300" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Amy-buileder-create-army-255x300.jpg 255w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Amy-buileder-create-army-768x905.jpg 768w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Amy-buileder-create-army.jpg 800w" sizes="(max-width: 255px) 100vw, 255px" /></p>
<h2>2. Unit creation</h2>
<p>Add units to your army. There is some flexibility here, so you choose whether you want to add a single unit or a squad. Since you control the input, you can organise your army to your liking.</p>
<p>Inputs needed for a unit:</p>
<ul>
<li>Name</li>
<li>Description<br />
Note special weapons etc. Ex Power sword +4, frag/krak grenades +3</li>
<li>Type (HQ, Elites, Fast Attack, Troops, Heavy support, fortification)</li>
<li>Points</li>
<li>Icon (I&#8217;ll make all the <a href="http://bakadesign.dk/warhammer-40-000-icons/">40K icons</a> I have created so far available)</li>
</ul>
<p>The army&#8217;s total points will be a sum of these. Meaning, the app will not know the rules or points, but simply be an easily accessable interfase to keep track of your army.</p>
<p>It could function something like this.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1032" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Army-Buileder-Add-units-255x300.jpg" alt="" width="255" height="300" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Army-Buileder-Add-units-255x300.jpg 255w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Army-Buileder-Add-units-768x905.jpg 768w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Army-Buileder-Add-units.jpg 800w" sizes="(max-width: 255px) 100vw, 255px" />      <img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1031" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Army-Buileder-army-with-units-255x300.jpg" alt="" width="255" height="300" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Army-Buileder-army-with-units-255x300.jpg 255w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Army-Buileder-army-with-units-768x905.jpg 768w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Army-Buileder-army-with-units.jpg 800w" sizes="(max-width: 255px) 100vw, 255px" /></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h2>3. Battle force</h2>
<p>The third part is for you to create Battle Forces from your army. Simply create and name your Battle Forces and start to pull units from your army.</p>
<p>The point cost for you Battle Force will be a sum of all your units.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1034" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Army-Buileder-Battleforces-255x300.jpg" alt="" width="255" height="300" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Army-Buileder-Battleforces-255x300.jpg 255w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Army-Buileder-Battleforces-768x905.jpg 768w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Army-Buileder-Battleforces.jpg 800w" sizes="(max-width: 255px) 100vw, 255px" />       <img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1033" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Army-Buileder-Battleforce-255x300.jpg" alt="" width="255" height="300" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Army-Buileder-Battleforce-255x300.jpg 255w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Army-Buileder-Battleforce-768x905.jpg 768w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Army-Buileder-Battleforce.jpg 800w" sizes="(max-width: 255px) 100vw, 255px" /></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>That is my initial thoughts on a simple army and list builder web app. I have begun the POC and will uploading a video soon on where I am now.</p>
<p>Please leave any comments and thoughts below.</p>

<p>I have started out with the Imperial Aquila and the chapter symbols of the loyalist Space marine chapters. I will try to add more as I go along.</p>

<h2>All SVG</h2>
<p>SVG is a great standard for vector graphics, making it easy for you to scale the icons up and down to your need. They a Illustrator and Photoshop friendly, or any other program you might need.</p>
<p>Find them on the <a href="http://bakadesign.dk/warhammer-40-000-icons/">Warhammer 40K icon page</a></p>
<p>If you have any nice svg&#8217;s lying around you would like me to add, leave a comment and let us see what we can make happen. The idea here is that more is better!</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<hr />
<p><strong>NOTE: </strong>This only works for the classical editor as I haven&#8217;t found a way to make it work with Gutenberg I&#8217;m afraid.</p>
<hr />
<p>Let us see how we can make a better parent page selector for the edit page screen in the admin section.</p>
<p>When you create a new page in WordPress you have the  option for selecting a parent page from a dropdown menu – nice and simple.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter wp-image-793 size-full" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/parent-page-dropdown-closed.png" alt="parent page selector dropwdown - closed" width="318" height="140" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/parent-page-dropdown-closed.png 318w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/parent-page-dropdown-closed-300x132.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 318px) 100vw, 318px" /></p>
<p>The problem arises when you start to have dosens or hundreds of pages.<img class="aligncenter wp-image-792 size-large" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/parent-page-dropdown-605x1024.png" alt="parent page selector dropdown" width="605" height="1024" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/parent-page-dropdown-605x1024.png 605w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/parent-page-dropdown-177x300.png 177w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/parent-page-dropdown.png 620w" sizes="(max-width: 605px) 100vw, 605px" /></p>
<p>Even with the indentation is starts to get difficult to find the page you are looking for.</p>
<h2>The solution: select2 to the rescue</h2>
<p>Now, it would be nice to be able search the parent page you are looking for. With <a href="https://github.com/select2/select2/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">select2</a> we can get that option. At the end it will look something like this.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter wp-image-794 size-full" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/parent-page-dropdown-select2.png" alt="parent page selector dropdown- select2" width="288" height="357" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/parent-page-dropdown-select2.png 288w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/parent-page-dropdown-select2-242x300.png 242w" sizes="(max-width: 288px) 100vw, 288px" /></p>
<h2>Code for the new  parent page selector</h2>
<p>The implementation is fairly straight forward:</p>
<ol>
<li>Include the select2 library.</li>
<li>Have it replace the default dropdown.</li>
</ol>
<p>I register a stylesheet and a javascript file for the admin section in WordPress. Copy and paste the needed code from the select2 library into these files or register them independently.</p>
<pre><code class="language-php">
/**
 * Register and enqueue in the WordPress admin.
 */
function bk_enqueue_custom_admin_style() {
        wp_register_style( 'custom_wp_admin_css', get_template_directory_uri() . '/inc/assets/css/admin.css', false, '1.0.0');
        wp_enqueue_style( 'custom_wp_admin_css' );

        wp_register_script( 'custom_wp_admin_js', get_template_directory_uri() . '/inc/assets/js/dmly-admin.js', 'jquery', '1.0.1', true );
        wp_enqueue_script( 'custom_wp_admin_js' );
}
add_action( 'admin_enqueue_scripts', 'bk_enqueue_custom_admin_style' );
</code></pre>
<p>The next thing is simply to call the select2 function</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<pre><code class="language-javascript">
(function( $ ){
    $('#parent_id').select2();
} )( jQuery );
</code></pre>
<p>All in all, not too bad.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>After seven good years at<a href="http://klean.dk" target="_blank"> Klean Kopenhagen</a> I&#8217;m starting a new adventure and have joined <a href="http://deemly.co" target="_blank">deemly</a> as CPO.</p>
<p>About a year ago an <a href="http://saragbrodersen.dk/" target="_blank">old colleague</a> asked if I knew someone who could help with design and front end development for her start up. Knowing her, and hearing about the concept, I quickly offered to help – having spend some time in both Photoshop and front end code.</p>
<h2>So what is deemly?</h2>
<p>We have to legs in the organisation:</p>
<ol>
<li>The deemly Score</li>
<li>A Review &amp; Rating service</li>
</ol>
<p>Where the first is a profile based community where users a granted a deemly score the second is a classic SaaS, where we offer a <a href="http://deemly.co/business/review-and-rating-system/" target="_blank">Review &amp; Rating system </a>as a service.</p>
<h2>The deemly score</h2>
<p>If I steal a bit from our About page, deemly is</p>
<blockquote><p>deemly is a reputation site, which shows the trustworthiness of users engaging in peer to peer transactions by combining ratings and reviews from multiple peer to peer platforms, such as Airbnb, GoMore, and Trendsales.</p>
<p>Users can leverage their trustworthiness from one site by including ratings and reviews from other sites. This makes the user feel more trustworthy and safer and so will all the other users interacting within peer to peer transactions, online and offline.</p></blockquote>
<p>We had a little video made:</p>
<p><iframe width="1280" height="720" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/lxTI9asvyn4?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></p>
<p>By <a href="http://freddiesmith.dk/" target="_blank">this great guy</a> to show the concept in bright colours.</p>
<p>If you have gotten curious, <a href="https://trust.deemly.co/register" target="_blank">head over at deemly to create your own profile</a> – it is free.</p>
<h2>Review &amp; Rating service</h2>
<p>This is a more classic business model. If you don&#8217;t have a peer to peer Reviews and Ratings you can get with us with a easy to use REST API -and a <a href="https://wordpress.org/plugins/deemly/" target="_blank">WordPress plugin</a> if that can help you.</p>
<p>While it is free for you and everyone else to get a deemly profile and a score, the SaaS comes at a price. This is so we don&#8217;t have to spam you commercials or build our own add network on top of your data. You can see much more at our <a href="http://deemly.co/business" target="_blank">page for businesses</a>.</p>
<p>So, all in all, I&#8217;m very happy to finally being able to go full time on deemly and give it all I got!</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>The user system in WordPress is great with its functions for roles and capabilities  but as WordPress is used more and more for membership and e-commerce sites where we have the need for a login system for members and customers who shouldn&#8217;t have to access the admin panel.</strong></p>
<h2>The WordPress user</h2>
<p>The user system in WordPress was build for facilitating access to the admin panel. Different roles grants access to the various functions and section of the WordPress admin panel.</p>
<p>All this works great, no doubt about that and I wouldn&#8217;t put a finger on it.</p>
<h2>The challanges</h2>
<p>But with the rise of WordPress as a platform for membership sites where we have members who need a login to access content and the ability to edit their own information the user system is used for something it is not intended. As site owners we don&#8217;t want these members or e-commerce customers to have access to the admin panel &#8211; not even a part of it.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s confusing for your customers to see a complete different interface when they want to edit their personal infomation and in WordPress they will be shown an empty dashboard which benefits no one.</p>
<p>Furthermore it does have some risc when it comes to the security of your site. It might be small or in most cases where WordPress has been proberly configured non-existing, but it&#8217;s never a good idea to have &#8220;strangers&#8221; in your backend.</p>
<p>This can be locked down by making a new role and restrict it&#8217;s capabilities but I would again argue to keep visitors away from your backend.</p>
<h2>The solution</h2>
<p>At this point it&#8217;s no secret I&#8217;d like to propose a secondary user system for WordPress &#8211; lets call it a member-system, to borrow the terminology from Umbraco CMS.</p>
<h3>Members</h3>
<p>It could somewhat easily be made with a custom post type and some helper functions to hash and encrypt passwords, log ins and setting cookies/sessions but for something as specfic as this &#8211; and to keep in mind that larger sites that have thousands of members &#8211; I&#8217;d prefer to store the members and their meta data in their own tables. Both for performance and data seperation.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-757" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/wp-members.jpg" alt="wp members list" width="1000" height="691" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/wp-members.jpg 1000w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/wp-members-300x207.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-758" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/wp-member.jpg" alt="wp member" width="1000" height="691" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/wp-member.jpg 1000w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/wp-member-300x207.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></p>
<h3>Member groups</h3>
<p>Where with the normal WP users we have roles and capabilities I would suggest a Member Group system.</p>
<p>This would make sense in categorizing members into groups and sub groups and have template functions to check for these. My take would to use the standard WordPress taxonomy system. No need to reinvent the wheel.</p>
<h2>Under the hood</h2>
<p>I&#8217;d suggest to add three custom tables:</p>
<ul>
<li>PREFIX_members</li>
<li>PREFIX_members_meta</li>
<li>PREFIX_member_groups</li>
</ul>
<p>The tables would look something like this:</p>
<p>PREFIX_members</p>
<ul>
<li>ID</li>
<li>first_name</li>
<li>last_name</li>
<li>login</li>
<li>pass</li>
<li>status</li>
<li>registered</li>
</ul>
<p>PREFIX_membermeta</p>
<ul>
<li>mmeta_id</li>
<li>member_id</li>
<li>meta_key</li>
<li>meta_value</li>
</ul>
<p>For the first two we can imitate the user and user_meta tables and the last one we can borrow a lot from the terms table.</p>
<p>Furthermore we need template functions for checking for setting cookies and sessions, checking for logged in or not and for member groups.</p>
<p>I think most of this more timeconsuming than difficult – but then again, I&#8217;m not a good enough adeveloper to know.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Running a site like laernogetnyt.dk where we have user registrations and post creation it&#8217;s nice as an admin to have an overview of number of posts created.</p>
<p>What I wanted was a list of the months in a year and the total number of posts created that month – and if no posts where created give me a zero</p>
<h5>2015</h5>
<ul>
<li>December (1)</li>
<li>November (7)</li>
<li>October (8)</li>
</ul>
<p>&#8230;</p>
<h5>2014</h5>
<ul>
<li>December (7)</li>
<li>November (2)</li>
<li>October (12)</li>
</ul>
<p>&#8230;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Disclaimer</strong>: I&#8217;m not a developer. I&#8217;d very much like to be better but my job is centered around UX, IA and business development. The things I build is out interrest &#8211; and I do love it.</p>
<h2>The problem</h2>
<p>First a thought a WP_Query and some looping would do the trick, but no luck. Maybe a direct query to the database would work.</p>
<p>I found half solutions like <a href="http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/22461/how-to-display-posts-month-by-month">here</a> and <a href="http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/60859/post-count-per-day-month-year-since-blog-began">here</a> but they all had some unwanted behavior. One suggestion had the number of posts from all Julys into one number, not for July 2014 and July 2015.</p>
<p>So a mix of standard WordPress function and a call to WP-&gt;query made this habben.</p>
<pre><code>
// The Callback funtion from the add widget hook
function ivp_content_stats_dashboard_widget_content() {
    // Get the year of the first post
    $from_date = preg_replace('/-.*/', '', get_posts(array(
        'posts_per_page' => -1,
        'order' => 'ASC'
    ))[0]->post_date);

    global $wpdb;

    // Loop through each year from blog start to today
    for ( $i = $from_date; $i <= date('Y'); $i++) {
        // Lets get some markup going wrapping each year
        echo '<div class="bkd-year-wrapper">';
        $counts[$i] = array();
        // Print the year
        echo '<h3>'.$i.'</h3>';
        // Now get all posts grouped by month for each year
        $res = $wpdb->get_results(
            "SELECT MONTH(post_date) as post_month, COUNT(ID) as post_count " .
            "FROM {$wpdb->posts} " .
            "WHERE YEAR(post_date) = ".$i." AND post_type = 'post' " .
            "AND post_status = 'publish' " .
            "GROUP BY post_month ORDER BY post_date ASC", OBJECT_K
        );

        // Count months so we can set empty months to 0 instead of leaving them out
        $looper = range(1, 12);
        $out        = '';
        $postCount  = '0';
        $len = count( $looper );

        // Lets get some markup going wrapping each year
        foreach( $looper as $m ){
            $month = date_i18n('M', mktime(0, 0, 0, $m, 1));
            $height = (isset( $res[$m]) ? $res[$m]->post_count : 0)*10;
            $out .= '<span class="bkd-no-of-posts-monthly">';
            $out .= sprintf(
                '<span class="bkd-no-of-posts-month">%s</span><span class="bkd-no-of-posts" style=" height:'.$height.'px; ">%d</span>',
                $month,
                isset( $res[$m]) ? $res[$m]->post_count : 0
            );
            $out .= '</span>';
            $postCount++;
        }
        echo '<div>'.$out.'</div>';
        echo '</div>';
    }
}
</code>
</pre>
<p>Now, I don&#8217;t like the idea of a loop with wp-&gt;query. Seems like a lot of calls to the database and a hurtig performance as a result.<br />
The good thing about this, that it is meant for the admin dashboard for admin users only. So I&#8217;m no that concerned. But if this was for the frontend I would very much like to improve on this.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>It&#8217;s with a heavy heart that I have to say that we&#8217;re closing our VOD site indiemondo.com. After a few years up and running we have to admit that it&#8217;s just not profitable for either us or the film makers.</strong></p>
<p>When I look back I can spot some now obvioues mistakes we made, but the concept it self I still believe in. Where we failed was in SEO and lack of getting new content.</p>
<h2>The indiemondo.com setup</h2>
<p>We were threee guys from Copenhagen who set out to create a platform for some of the best indie films out there. We could never compete in quantity with a site like <a href="https://indieflix.com/" target="_blank">indieflix.com</a> and didn&#8217;t really want to.</p>
<p>We had one guy on finding films, one on the platform and one who diveded his time between the two besides his other tasks. It was not a full time employment for any of us, but our spare time baby.</p>
<h2>Lack of content</h2>
<p>Getting content took effort and time &#8211; a lot of time! More time than we actually had which lead us to problem nr one: lack of content.</p>
<p>In search of content we scanned some of the biggest indie film festivals for potential films to host in indiemondo.com For every 100 film maker we contacted we would get 3-4 films. It was a long way to the aimed for 100 films. An aim we never reached.</p>
<h2>No margin for advertising</h2>
<p>When you sell film on demand for a few euroes and give half to the film makers and pay 25% VAT of the rest plus fees for payment gateways and hosting services there is not much left.</p>
<h2>No SEO strategy</h2>
<p>SEO is one of these things we grow tired of hearing about. Mostly because we hear about it from people who wan to sell us SEO optimazation.</p>
<p>When I say we needed a SEO strategy it&#8217;s not because we didn&#8217;t do anything. We made unique title tags and meta descriptions for all films, we had some blog posts for content marketing and we made it possible for film makers to create a button for their website linking to their film on indiemondo.com. It&#8217;s just not enough. We should have focused much more here, more shareble content and more back links.</p>
<p>I thought I&#8217;d do a sectipn on the WordPress platform we build, but I&#8217;ll save that for a later post.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>A few months ago I stumpled upon Trent Kaniugas YouTube Channel and have seen every video &#8211; and most of them twice. A great artist and a pretty awesome human being (it seems) who shares his knowledge and philosophy with the rest of us.</strong></p>
<h2>Whos is Trent Kaniuga</h2>
<p>Trent Kaniuga is a concept artist for Diablo 3, League of Legends,  World of WarCraft and many more. Furthermore he is the creator of the comics <a href="http://www.comicvine.com/creed/4005-51748/" target="_blank">Creed</a> and <a href="http://www.twilightmonk.com/" target="_blank">Twillight Monk</a>. Twillight Mon it being made into a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aa9YBqupBg0" target="_blank">computer game</a>.</p>
<figure id="attachment_722" style="width: 100px" class="wp-caption alignleft"><img class="wp-image-722 size-full" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/w100-69401220.jpg" alt="Trent Kaniuga in 100x100px" width="100" height="100" /><figcaption class="wp-caption-text">Trent Kaniuga in 100x100px</figcaption></figure>
<p>Trent shared a great deal of tips and trick not just for drawing but also a bit of life philosophy. Here are some of the points I picked up along the way.</p>
<h2></h2>
<h2>Back to the line drawing</h2>
<p>A lot of the videos online by artists like <a href="http://fengzhudesign.com/" target="_blank">Feng Zhu</a>, <a href="http://xiataptara.com/" target="_blank">Xia Taptara</a> and <a href="http://www.nicholaskay.com/" target="_blank">Nicholas Kay</a> there all leaning towards photo realism or a painterly expression &#8211; and it looks good, no doubt about it.</p>
<p>So I brainwashed myself &#8211; yup, all by myself &#8211; into believing this was the way to go, the way it should be done. I struggle with this since I&#8217;m coming from a background in comics made by hand with pencil and ink.</p>
<figure id="attachment_705" style="width: 300px" class="wp-caption alignleft"><a href="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Adepta-sororitas-apprentices-1.png"><img class="wp-image-705 size-medium" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Adepta-sororitas-apprentices-1-300x241.png" alt="Adepta-sororitas-apprentices-1" width="300" height="241" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Adepta-sororitas-apprentices-1-300x241.png 300w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Adepta-sororitas-apprentices-1.png 809w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></a><figcaption class="wp-caption-text">Gor some lines back in my work</figcaption></figure>
<p>So along comes Trent Kaniuga with his awesome painterly line drawings making the point that line drawings are still awesome and you should do it if you want. Thanks dude!</p>
<h2>Remember the story</h2>
<p>Making great paintings and drawings is cool in itself  by the design, composition or just the tchnic used. But in many videos Trent emphasize that drawing is simply a way for him to tell stories. And that the drawing should tell a story as well.</p>
<p>So I now try to keep the story in mind and not get lost on technicalities &#8211; which I often do since this is an issue at my level &#8211; when I&#8217;m workin on something. Don&#8217;t just do some dude in an armour, make the armour tell a story.</p>
<h2>Be a team worker</h2>
<p>This might sound corny to a lot of people but it&#8217;s still important to keep in mind. Trent Kaniugas mentions that he sees his work as a service for the team and the end user, not a unique piece of art which should never be touched again. Let you team members know you&#8217;re there to help them and the you&#8217;re in it together to create an awesome game or comics or what else your doing.</p>
<h2>Revisit your old art</h2>
<p>I guess we all do this, either to feel nostalgic or to shiver in horror. But going back and see where you were 3 months or a year ago hopefully shows you how far you have moved. Wanting to correct or redo old pieces just shows us we&#8217;re getting better. And we should remember that.</p>
<figure id="attachment_720" style="width: 1003px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img class="size-full wp-image-720" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/progress.jpg" alt="Some progress made from 2014-15" width="1003" height="627" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/progress.jpg 1003w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/progress-300x188.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 1003px) 100vw, 1003px" /><figcaption class="wp-caption-text">Some progress made from 2014-15</figcaption></figure>
<p>I&#8217;ll keep looking back in hope of seeing progress. It&#8217;s slow since I don&#8217;t have that much time for drawing but it&#8217;s there. At least bu monsters have boiles now. Nicholas Kay have  a great technic for this by the way in his video <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xr-s53e1ruo&amp;list=PLDFF8AC542A5B69C0&amp;index=5" target="_blank">Freeky: Speed Paint Tutorial</a>.</p>
<h2>So what now</h2>
<p>Now you go and check out the Trentness at <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmRm1xtLIpBhuWjTyD411pA" target="_blank">YouTube</a>, find his In Depth Tutorial at <a href="https://gumroad.com/trentk" target="_blank">Gumroad</a> or pick up a copy of <a href="http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/TrentKaniuga" target="_blank">Twillight Monk</a>.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Dark Angels Interrogator Chaplain Caphriel is the main character of  the story line. An ancient and well decorated veteran given the task of hunting for The Fallen.</strong></p>
<p>From way back The Dark Angels Space Marine Chapter has been my favorite. They have lots of awesome special characters and special units but I decided to go with an original character to have more freedom; meet Caphriel.</p>
<p><a href="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Dark-Angels-Interrogator-Chaplain-Caphriel-2.png"><img class="alignleft wp-image-633 size-medium" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Dark-Angels-Interrogator-Chaplain-Caphriel-2-199x300.png" alt="Dark Angels Interrogator Chaplain Caphriel-2" width="199" height="300" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Dark-Angels-Interrogator-Chaplain-Caphriel-2-199x300.png 199w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Dark-Angels-Interrogator-Chaplain-Caphriel-2.png 554w" sizes="(max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px" /></a>I&#8217;m not gonna delve into the Dark Angel lore to much &#8211; I don&#8217;t know it well enough &#8211; but I some characters might appear at some point, probably  Interrogator-Chaplain Asmodai &#8211; being the boss and all.</p>
<h2>The hunt for the fallen</h2>
<p>Having been around for a long, long time and having achieved what he have Caphriel has been accepted into the inner circle of the Dark Angels learning the chapters darkest secrets; The hunt for the fallen.</p>
<p>Caphriels search has never led to an actual catch of a fallen but this time it shall not fail.</p>
<p>Caphriel travels with a retinue of veteran space marines. All are proven battle brothers and highly decorated. Yet they do not know details abouth the true nature of their hunt. They believe them selves to be a mobile strike force hunting chaos where they find it.</p>
<h2>Physical characteristics</h2>
<p>Since Space Marines usually wear Power Armour there is really only the head to pimp.</p>
<p>As for the head I designed him with a skull-like look. His face was burned of in a campaign centuries ago leaving a paperish textured skin.</p>
<p>I wanted to avoid the tattooed look so I went with a Dark Angels symbol molted into the back of his head.</p>
<h2>Power Armour characteristics</h2>
<p>Bearing an ancient Artificer Chaplain Armour Caphriel stands out from most of his battle brothers. His left shoulder pad doesn&#8217;t have the normal Dark Angels Winged Sword symbol, but a sculped model of the Death Angels holding a sword and an inscripted shield. The right pad is one big skull  symbolizing his status as a Chaplain.</p>
<p>His chest plate has another sculped Death Angels holding a book. As for the knee pads, we have one skull and one in the shape of a lion head. Another Death Angel at the left leg and thats it for the customized stuff. The rest is more standard black power armour.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-632" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Dark-Angels-Interrogator-Chaplain-Caphriel-1.png" alt="Dark Angels Interrogator Chaplain Caphriel-1" width="485" height="789" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Dark-Angels-Interrogator-Chaplain-Caphriel-1.png 485w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Dark-Angels-Interrogator-Chaplain-Caphriel-1-184x300.png 184w" sizes="(max-width: 485px) 100vw, 485px" /></p>
<p>I guess this is enough for the first introduction. I&#8217;ll post more paintings and background as it developes.</p>

<p><strong>Get your GIT reference sheet on your coffee mug &#8211; never forget a command &#8211; as long as it&#8217;s on the mug.</strong></p>
<p>As a frontend developer I like Git and as a human being I love coffee. So <a href="https://twitter.com/palmin" target="_blank">@palmin</a>, the creator of <a href="http://workingcopyapp.com/" target="_blank">Wokring Copy</a>, and I joined forces and created the Git Mug &#8211; a mug with a Git cheat sheet.</p>
<p>The mug is not for the hardcode GIT user, cheat sheets rarely are, but for people like me. Who use git on a fairly regular basis and simple just forgets a command or two from time to time.</p>
<p>At <a href="http://git-mug.com/" target="_blank">git-mug.com</a> you can get a preview of the mug as well as the cheat sheet and purchase you own.</p>
<p>If you or a developer near you are in the market for a mug go check it out over at <a href="http://git-mug.com/" target="_blank">git-mug.com</a>.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>If you run a membership site one way to encourage users to finish their profile is with a little bit of gamification. Here I&#8217;ll show how to make a widget to show user progress in WordPress.</strong></p>
<p>At <a href="http://laernogetnyt.dk" target="_blank">laernogetnyt.dk</a> we wanted to give logged in users some advice on how to improve their profiles without having them searching<img class="alignright wp-image-660 size-medium" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/user-progress-300x257.jpg" alt="user-progress" width="300" height="257" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/user-progress-300x257.jpg 300w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/user-progress.jpg 800w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /> around for stuff to do.</p>
<p>Also it adds a bit of gamification, to use a big word, and hopefully users would like to hit that 100%.</p>
<h2>Progress parameters</h2>
<p>Before we delve into any code let&#8217;s decide what we wan to track. At Lær noget nyt we track the following:</p>
<ul>
<li>profile text</li>
<li>profile image</li>
<li>profile cover image</li>
<li>Creation of first post</li>
<li>Creation of an additional post</li>
</ul>
<p>Most fields are not standard WordPress user fields, <a href="http://www.advancedcustomfields.com/" target="_blank">Advanced custom fields</a> to the rescue. You can of course code them yourself or use any other framework, ACF is just my weapon of choice.</p>
<p>The next step is to give each parameter a value. The profile text acounts to 30%, profile image 10% and so on. Just make sure it all adds up to a 100%.</p>
<h2>The Widget code</h2>
<p>Ok, lets get to it. First of all we need the WordPress widget class:</p>
<pre><code>
/*
 * IVP social links widget
 * Takes the link entered in the IVP settings panel
 *
 */
class lnn_user_progress_widget extends WP_Widget {

	function __construct() {
		parent::__construct(
		// Base ID of your widget
		'lnn_user_progress',

		// Widget name will appear in UI
		'User Progress',

		// Widget description
		array( 'description' =&gt; 'Not mush to say yet', )
		);
	}

	// Creating widget front-end
	// This is where the action happens
	public function widget( $args, $instance ) {
		$title = apply_filters( 'widget_title', $instance['title'] );
		// before and after widget arguments are defined by themes
		echo $args['before_widget'];
		if ( ! empty( $title ) )
		echo $args['before_title'] . $title . $args['after_title'];

echo $args['after_widget'];
	}

	// Widget Backend
	public function form( $instance ) {
	if ( isset( $instance[ 'title' ] ) ) {
		$title = $instance[ 'title' ];
	}
	else {
		$title = __( 'New title', 'ivp' );
	}
	// Widget admin form
	_e('Show the user progress', 'ivp');

"; } // Updating widget replacing old instances with new public function update( $new_instance, $old_instance ) { $instance = array(); $instance['title'] = ( ! empty( $new_instance['title'] ) ) ? strip_tags( $new_instance['title'] ) : ''; return $instance; } } // Class lnn_user_progress_widget ends here // Register and load the widget function lnn_load_user_progress_widget() { register_widget( 'lnn_user_progress_widget' ); } add_action( 'widgets_init', 'lnn_load_user_progress_widget' );
</code></pre>
<p>This will take of registrering the widget and show it both frontend and in the admin area. So far, so good.</p>
<p>Now for getting the user data. We set at progress variable and get the user post count.</p>
<pre><code>
$progress = '';
 global $current_user;
 $user_post_count = count_user_posts( $current_user-&gt;ID);</code></pre>
<p>Now let&#8217;s assign a value of 30 if the post count is between 1-3 and add another 10% if above.</p>
<pre><code>if( $user_post_count &gt; 0){
			$progress = $progress + 30;
			if( $user_post_count &gt; 1 &amp;&amp; $user_post_count &lt; 3){
				$progress = $progress + 10;
			}else{
				$suggestions[] = 'Overvej at <a title="Opret endnu et opslag" href="/bruger/opret-opslag">oprette endnu et opslag</a>';
			}
		}
</code></pre>
<p>If no posts are found add a suggestion text on what to do. Now do this for the rest of your paramters.</p>
<p>The last past is to simple print it all to the screen.</p>
<pre><code>
&lt;h3&gt;Din profil&lt;/h3&gt;
		&lt;div class="progress-bar"&gt;
		&lt;div class="progress-bar__progress &lt;?php echo $user_progree_status; ?&gt;" style="height: <!--?php echo $progress; ?-->%;"&gt;
			&lt;span class="progress-bar__number"&gt;&lt;?php echo $progress; ?&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span class="progress-bar__unit"&gt;%&lt;/span&gt;
		&lt;/div&gt;
		&lt;/div&gt;
		&lt;?php
		if( $suggestions &gt; 0 ){ ?&gt;
			&lt;ul class="suggestions"&gt;
			&lt;?php foreach ($suggestions as $suggestion) {
				echo '&lt;li&gt;' . $suggestion . '&lt;/li&gt;';
			} ?&gt;
			&lt;/ul&gt;
		&lt;?php }

</code></pre>
<p>I hope this will get you well on your way to give your logged in users feedback on how far they are with their profile.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>I have watched hundreds of videos on &#8220;How to draw this&#8221; and &#8220;Speed painting of that&#8221; from a lot of talented artists and great teacher and in this post I&#8217;ll tell you what I learned from Feng Zhu.</strong></p>
<p>Feng Zhu of the <a href="http://fzdschool.com/" target="_blank">FZD School of Design</a> and renowned concept artist have a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbdyjrrJAjDIACjCsjAGFAA" target="_blank">YouTube channel</a> under the FZD Shool brand where with more than 80 videoes filled with gems and awesomeness.</p>
<p>The videoes are 20min to 1 hour-ish long and are usually Feng Zhu speaking while we&#8217;ere watching a timelaps or some real time creation. There are hours of great learning and I strongly recommend you to check them out if you&#8217;re doing any kind of drawing and painting.</p>
<p>The videoes and the show cased technics open my eyes to many new ways of doing things, achieving results and approaching digital painting. Besides that he has some great advice on how to work and think of thing as well as some good insight into the industry.</p>
<p>Here I&#8217;ll list some of things I found most usefull.</p>
<h2>1. Finish the peace</h2>
<p>Feng Zhu mentions in a video that it&#8217;s better to spend 30 hours finishing one piece than having 30 failed attepts at speed paintings.</p>
<p>It might sounds obvious but when I&#8217;m in front of Photoshop struggling with a new painting it&#8217;s becomes very tempting to just give up and start a new one. Hoping it turns out better faster. I did this for quite a while actually. I&#8217;m not a professional and I just draw and paint for fun in my spare time and therefor don&#8217;t have hours and hours a day to improve that fast.</p>
<p>But when I adopted this, it really worked. I had a 1 hour sketch I was happy about and I spend 20-30 hours refining in. It&#8217;s neither finished nor perfect but I had never achieved this level og completion before. I gave me quite a boost to see that I could do better when I spend the time on it.</p>
<p><img class="alignright wp-image-632 size-medium" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Dark-Angels-Interrogator-Chaplain-Caphriel-1-184x300.png" alt="Dark Angels Interrogator Chaplain Caphriel-1" width="184" height="300" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Dark-Angels-Interrogator-Chaplain-Caphriel-1-184x300.png 184w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Dark-Angels-Interrogator-Chaplain-Caphriel-1.png 485w" sizes="(max-width: 184px) 100vw, 184px" /></p>
<p>Now I don&#8217;t spend less than 5-10 hours a piece. I start new ones before finishing old ones but I gp back to them occasionally slowing moving forward.</p>
<h2>2. Extract forms from silhouettes</h2>
<p>This is a technical lesson. I come from life drawing and comic book styles wih pencils and pens, not paiting. So the idea of creating a solid silhouette and extract forms from it was quite new to me and it has helped me a lot.</p>
<p>Not having to worry about lines and forms ar the same time as thinking about the design has helped me getting more done.  Fill out some blobs and take it from there is quite fun.</p>
<h2>3. Draw more than one</h2>
<p>If you want to draw and design a Space Marine, for instance, don&#8217;t just draw one, draw two or three. Show youself and others it&#8217;s not just a lucky coincidence that it turned out great, it&#8217;s something you can do.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m not quite there yet on this one but I try. his helps me also finding my own styles I hope.</p>
<h2>4. Don&#8217;t worry about speed</h2>
<p>This might be a no brainer for smarter people than me. But when you see videos on painting the artits always work fast &#8211; also in real time.</p>
<p>But Feng Zhu makes a simple point; they&#8217;re profs, they have to work fast. If you&#8217;re a student don&#8217;t worry about time so much. Take the time needed to finish the piece. Worry about speed when you have a deadline and bills to pay.</p>
<p>This relates to point 1 about taking the itme to finish a piece and see what you can achieve.</p>
<p>I hope this post convinced you to check out his works and the toturials on FZD School of Designs YouTube channal.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>We all know and love the Sisters of battle, the awesome adepta sororitas, but for the story I wanted someone not as hardcore battle worn and came of with the concept of the Adepta sororitas apprentices &#8211; simply refered to as Little Sisters.</strong></p>
<p>Spoiler alert: This graphic novel (when one day finished ) will contain fan service. Having said that I&#8217;m not talking full frontal, just a bit of feminim characters in cool outfits.</p>
<p>As great as the Sisters of Battle are they&#8217;re not really fit for this purpose due to heave layers of power armour. So having seen <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BfqZIyqZf4" target="_blank">The Vaults of Terra</a>&#8216;s video on the Sisters and their different factions I came up with the idea of including some younger sisters  &#8211; Little Sisters &#8211; who still being apprenticeses had a bit more flexibility of armour and clothing.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-705" src="http://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Adepta-sororitas-apprentices-1.png" alt="Adepta-sororitas-apprentices-1" width="809" height="649" srcset="https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Adepta-sororitas-apprentices-1.png 809w, https://bakadesign.dk/backoffice/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Adepta-sororitas-apprentices-1-300x241.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 809px) 100vw, 809px" /></p>
<p>The sisters of battle usually residing on Schrine Worlds I guess a bit of civilian clothing is not unheard of. The battle uniform is much lighter more fit for a small riot than a full flegded Chaos invasion.</p>
<h2>Adepta Sororitas Apprentices weapons</h2>
<p>I would stille make Chain Swords and Bolt Pistols the weapons of choice alongside some more low tech weapons like normal swords maybe. Or maybe they just got in there as a design eleent.</p>
<p>No heavy weapon, but flamers would make a nice addition &#8211; purge by fire! Grenades are a no brainer, who would go to battle with out.</p>
<p>As for power weapons I&#8217;m not quite sure. Swords makes sense I guess but no axes or fists.</p>
<p>As for their place in the story line I&#8217;d guess two or three warriors and a analyst/translator who will take up a more prominant part of the story.</p>
<p>The desigs still needs some refinement and I need to add som e strong personalities in order to avoid to much of barbie looks.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p>It&#8217;s not that I don&#8217;t want it to go on and I might take it up again some day, but at my current drawing pace I simply can&#8217;t put out enough pages for this to work.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Taxonomies are great to group and organize  content. We&#8217;ll take a look on how to make an A-Z list of entries in a given taxonomy in WordPress. </strong></p>
<p>When we build Indiemondo we made a taxonomy for tagging films up with festivals. With over a thousands festivals simply making a long list and expect vivistors to browse thorugh was a no go.</p>
<p>We wanted to things:</p>
<ul>
<li>Grouping festivals by first letter</li>
<li>Making an easy in page search &#8211; this will be coming up in a feature post</li>
</ul>
<p>Copy and paste the code below into a page template file and replace &#8216;YOUR TAXONOMY&#8217; with the name of your taxonomy.</p>
<p>As for the array of arguments check out the <a title="Get_terms on the wordpress codex" href="http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/get_terms">WordPress codex article</a>.</p>
<pre><code>
$list = '';
$groups = array();
$tags = get_terms('YOUR TAXONOMY',$args);
if( $tags &amp;&amp; is_array( $tags ) ) {
	foreach( $tags as $tag ) {
		$first_letter = strtoupper( $tag-&gt;name[0] );
		$groups[ $first_letter ][] = $tag;
	}
	if( !empty( $groups ) ) {
		foreach( $groups as $letter =&gt; $tags ) {
			$list .= "&lt;div&gt;&lt;h3&gt;" . $letter . "&lt;/h3&gt;&lt;ul&gt;";
			foreach( $tags as $tag ) {
				$list .= '&lt;li&gt;&lt;a href="/YOUR TAXONOMY/'.$tag-&gt;slug.'"&gt;'.$tag-&gt;name.'&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/li&gt;';
			}
			$list .= '&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;/div&gt;';
		}
		$list .= '';
	}
}
echo $list;
</code>
</pre>
<p>This code will loop through the terms and create a group for the first character and create the a div with an h3 for the title of the group.</p>

<p>On indimondo<a title="indiemondo.com" href="http://indiemondo.com">.</a>com we wanted to give the film makers a chance of putting a button on their website that links to their film. So we build a small plugin listing all the films and when a film was chosen a link button was generated.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve wrapped up the code and submitted it to the WordPress Plugin repo in case this could be useful to anyone else. Grab it from the WordPress plugins page</p>
<p>For now the link generator only lists posts, but a future upgrade will give you the opportunity to list any kind of post type. Just use the short &#8220;page_link_generator&#8221; and it will appear like shown below:</p>
