Summer of shuffling in Baker schools

Chain saws, hard hats and big-kid desks have been moved out of a portion of Baker High School to make way for the small, round tables that kindergartners gather around for learning. The tables, along with cubbyhole shelves used to store kindergartners’ school supplies, and pieces of carpet where the little ones will gather for storytime and show-and-tell, are transforming former vocational classrooms at BHS into the district’s new self-contained kindergarten.

Helping the river and its users

A group of Baker Valley farmers and ranchers, along with government officials, figured out how to keep water in the Powder River, and keep cattle out. Which sounds like a boon for the river and its inhabitants, but like a potential disaster for those farmers and ranchers.

And some people aren’t bothered at all by the obnoxious insects. The attraction, Burrows said, is all about your body chemistry.

Stephen and Casey Rich’s dog came home with a hunk of roast beef wrapped around rat poison Stephen Rich was surprised to find what his dog, Ansel, was carrying outside his Sumpter home Monday afternoon. After spending much of the afternoon working in his backyard, with Ansel hanging around at his side, Rich went inside to grab a bite to eat.
