Fewer people were injured in crashes on the nation's roadways in 2006 than the year before, extending a string of declines every year since 1995, U.S. Transportation Secretary Mary E. Peters said yesterday during a visit to Severna Park High School.

As gasoline prices climb toward $4 a gallon, more commuters in Maryland are leaving their cars and trucks at home and hopping a bus or train to work.

Sajid Chaudhry sells gasoline for a living, so with pump prices approaching $4 a gallon, you'd think he'd be celebrating.

<description>A section of Lexington Street between
Howard and Eutaw
streets has been temporarily
made one way westbound, according
to the Baltimore Department
of Transportation. The
change, which is to be in effect
for about a year, is being made to
make room for work on a Maryland
Transit Administration
building.

<description>It's been quite an experience riding the light rail system the past couple of weeks. Certainly it's been a great way to get to know your fellow Baltimoreans a little better. My favorite was that southbound stretch between Mount Washington and North Avenue, whipping around curves in a stuffed-to-the-gills one-car train while standing in a stairwell jotting down quotes offered by fellow members of the "crush load."
