UM field hockey team beats American in NCAA 1st round

Top seed Maryland defeated American, 6-1, on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA tournament in College Park. The Terrapins will host Drexel in the second round at 2 p.m. today. Junior Katie O'Donnell had two goals and three assists to give her 76 points this season, breaking Susie Rowe 's single-season points record of 74 set last year. O'Donnell tied the Maryland and Atlantic Coast Conference records for career assists with 71. Senior Nicole Muracco (one goal) tied the school single-season record for goals - also set by Rowe last season - with her 28th of the year. Megan Frazer and Emma Thomas (two goals) also scored for the Terps.
