Back in the depths of Winter I came across Buta & Buti at the Winchester Christmas Markets. Their beautiful hand-printed bedding and pyjamas caught my eye and I have been waiting to share with you ever since.

Buta & Buti work with craftsmen and women to create handcrafted printed goodies. The wooden blocks used in printing are all hand carved and traditionally printed.

Their range for children includes two prints, the elephant and butterfly. They have a generously sized quilt and pyjamas available in both of these prints and having seen them up close know the quality is really fine.

Not only do they have baby and child products but a gorgeous range of home linens, soft furnishings, pyjama shorts and dressing gowns for Mamas.

Alternative Jubilee

You can’t open your eyes at the moment without coming across the latest Jubilee themed products. It’s hard not to get into the spirit of the occasion and so here are my top picks for some Jubilee action with style.

First up is the ever cool Micro Scooters with their limited edition Union Jack range. Their Mini and Maxi micro scooters have been given the red white and blue treatment and they have Union Jack accessories for the full patriotic effect. We all know a Micro Scooter is the ultimate way to travel and if you’re cruising the local street parties it’s the only way to get around. Milla has just been sent a Maxi Micro Red Union Jack complete with bottle holder and she has been drawing admiring glances from all quarters.

I wrote about these Jubilee Dresses last week and they have been snapped up in the mean time. There are a few remaining in the red design and feature a vintage commemorative handkerchief. £35 from Arty & Bella.

Want to decorate your house then take a look at these very cool, understated bunting wall stickers. The stickers are sturdy repositionable fabric stickers which in my experience pose no threat to the paintwork. The cross stitch bunting sets come in either red and blue background (pictured above) or red and blue stitching on a natural background. £15 per pack which covers about a meter.

My children love making cards for people, they diligently sit at the kitchen table crafting the perfect greeting. But when it comes to envelopes we’ve got a pretty limited selection. Ellen Giggenbach

Ellen Giggenbach is a New Zealand based paper cut artist and illustrator. Her bright, joyful style has a folksy vibe which I am loving.

In April her first picture books were published. Counting and First Words (Templar Publishing RRP £6.99 each) are board books filled with colour and a quirky interpretation on these traditional format books. Ellen’s work includes a lot of texture from the paper she uses to create her art. The books have enhanced that with parts of the picture being embossed and shiny contrasting the matt page, making it a tactile experience. What I like about these books is that you could use them for counting and learning words or you can use the pictures to tell a story as they are sequential.

Ellen also has an Etsy shop packed with gorgeous prints and papercut sculptures for you to create. Her most recent release is The Owl and The Pussy Cat (keep an eye on these two as there is a trend emerging) a charming paper sculpture complete with boat and a starry sky. Her prints feature on the wish list I’m running for Monty and Betsy’s bedroom (work is progressing, hope to share soon!) although narrowing the choice down to a favorite is proving tricky.

Ellen Giggenbach’s style taps into many hot trends while being uniquely her own brand of cool. I can see a lot more of her in the future.

Wallpaper Republic children’s designs at Bouf

If you’re a regular reader, you’ll be well aware of our love for funky wallpapers. So I nearly fainted when I spotted the designs from Wallpaper Republic over at Bouf. All the made-to-order papers are PVC-free and printed with solvent-free ink, plus they are tough enough to withstand the most feisty of toddlers .

There are many designs to choose from, all costing £75 for a 3m drop or (eeek!) £175 for a 10m roll. My top three are Lydia Meiying’s Run Away and Join the Circus, top; Space by Luke James (above) and Balloons by Emma Johansson (below). Get pasting!

Scuttlebug

We have recently fallen in love with the Scuttlebug. When I first saw them I wasn’t too excited, the design snob in me couldn’t see past the cheesy face on the front but little by little they have won me over.

Scuttlebug is a foldable tricycle suitable for children aged 1+. Having seen many a tricycle ‘suitable from 12 months’ but impossible for a child of that age to use I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how completely accessible it is to toddlers. The splayed legs give a stable base and while the front wheel can be directed, it doesn’t turn so far that it causes an imbalance. The folding system is a quick lock and fold action which makes the trike practically flat – great for stowing under the pram.

Betsy started riding one at a local toddler group and without any help was racing around the hall. We borrowed it to try it out and about for a few days and it is the perfect ride-on for a toddler desperate to keep up with their scooting siblings. Despite myself I’m now on the hunt for one as they are too good to ignore.

I’ve been itching to share this brand with you since the lovely Ruth at Love It Love It Love It told me about it because I know you’re going to go bananas over it. A little bit quirky and a lot retro, Norwegian label Tiljamid is a small collection of bamboo/spandex mix pieces for babies up to six year olds. If you haven’t ever owned any bamboo clothing, you’re in for a nice surprise – it really is the softest fabric I’ve ever felt – plus, as a bonus, it repels dirt (why aren’t all children’s clothes made from it?), offers UV protection and is antiseptic!

But even super-fabric bamboo takes a backseat to Tiljamid’s ultra-amazing prints and designs. The florals (top) come in a totally 70s palette of navy, brown, orange, turquoise and mustard – yum – while the deer-patterned zip-up rompers (above) and space pattern (below) are real conversation-starters. You’ll also find funky dresses, bamboo jeans, bibs and the most divine baby dungarees ever.

Now, let’s talk seriously, this kind of fabulosity does not come cheap (vests are £36, dungarees £45, tops £33.50 and rompers £56) BUT (and it’s a big one) Tiljamid has kindly designed its clothing to last. The bodysuits and dungarees have three sets of poppers for adjustments and all pieces have ribbed cuffs that can be turned up or down to fit. Swoop now before I buy it all!
