Fine Cooking – June 2011 (again)

The June issue of Fine Cooking is a goodie. Grilling, a focus on watermelon (yes, you can grill watermelon too!), and packing a lunch – gourmet style.

The same issue did a focus on our new fabulous Soft Cork Bowls (posted here). In thumbing through the issue again, we spotted another of our bambu products in the pages of the same issue of Fine Cooking. Coffee – rubbed pork tenderloin on our bambu Medium Classic Cutting Board. Nice – on all accounts. The recipe is worth checking out too. We have done similar coffee rubs for Fish Tacos….these also go great on bambu (shameless self-promotion- sorry!). Enjoy.

A sign of the times when a notable publication like Architectural Digest enters China with its Chinese language addition. AD holds up to the quality and design excellence known the world over….

Our color splashes the pages of this month’s issue….new from bambu, our Spotlight Candles, front and center, and in coordinated color, our new Cutting Edge series of cutting boards. Both are available at Nest – our retail collaboration in Shanghai.

Primary Colors are on trend and add freshness and brightness to numerous product designs.

‘Is coconut the new bamboo?’

Well, you wouldn’t find us making that bold statement, but the editors of MORE magazine raise the question. And as people well know, we are fans of Coconuts….whether we cook with it, drink with it or…now serve in it. Ever since we began our Coconut shell reclaim program in Vietnam and introduced the world to our Coco Bowls, people have been gravitating towards these unique bowls. They love the colors, and love the irregular and oh-so-organic shapes…each shell slightly different than the others. People find all sorts of uses for them, a starter with a dip, Asian-inspired salads, or a pumpkin soup (with coconut milk, naturally. Or no food at all and instead, a fun colorful catch-all.

Below, the December/January issue of More magazine – For Women of Style and Substance. This looks to be a superb publication; its sharp design, and clean layout matches up well with meaningful editorial.

For 2011, look for our new colors and new sizes as we introduce our new Coco Minis coconut shell serving bowls.

Retailers Vote for the Best Green Products – bambu wins top ‘Eco Choice’ Award

bambu has been awarded the Eco Choice Award for its Kitchen Basics bamboo utensil set at this year’s New York Gift Show. Kitchen Basics, introduced this year, won the ‘Most Sellable’ award as voted by retailers. Kitchen Basics have been a strong seller all year, and for good reason too. The set of two spoons and one spatula are simple and elegant, lightweight and durable, and at a great price point. They will quickly become the ‘go to’ favorites in almost any kitchen.

The Kitchen Basics from bambu were featured in the recent SustainAbility: Design for a Better World exhibition in New York and were selected from more than 250 entries.

Bamboo is a highly renewable resource. The bamboo we use is grown in the wild, and is harvested by rural farmers in close proximity to our small production center.

Cut from a single piece of bamboo and dried in the sun, our bamboo utensils are hand shaped and hand finished. No finishes or adhesives are added. bambu uses only Certified organically grown bamboo which means no chemicals or pesticides are used.

New York Gift Fair – a winning show

Thanks for making the The New York Gift Show this year one of our best shows ever. It was really nice seeing our customers and familiar faces over the several days we ’set up shop’ in Javits. It is nearly a 24 hour journey traveling from Shanghai, but well worth it.

Always great seeing many of our customers who have stood by us for many years, or recently joined with us, and a joy to meet people who are only discovering bambu now. People who appreciate the breadth of our range, the originality of our designs, quality of our craftsmanship, and the ‘bambu way’ of doing business.

People are increasingly interested in integrating sustainability into their businesses. Wanting to off beautiful, eco-friendly alternatives to their customers. We had some great conversations with a lot of people, retailers, designers, small business owners – and that’s really encouraging.

One of the major highlights was winning this year’s The Eco Award.

Our product was selected from among 250 entries as ‘Most Salable’ by retailers.
