After seeing Toubab Krewe play at Rothbury Festival last weekend we wish we could make the trip up to their next festival in the northeast. The band is currently on route to Vermont to play at bass players David Pransky’s family farm. This amazing locations is six hours north of New York City and three hours from Boston or Montreal.

The Festivus, dubbed “The Manifestivus” this year to honor its larger scale, will prove to be an unforgettable weekend of dancing, hiking and swimming for festivalgoers.

The Manifestivus will feature performances by legendary world touring acts Toubab Krewe, Oumou Sangaré, Barrington Levy, Midnite, Black Sheep and Earle “Chinna” Smith and some of New England’s best musicians, as well as an all-star jam and a Saturday night afterparty featuring electro-pop outfit My Dear Disco, J. Holla, Relolon, D.J. Patrick B. and many more.

More about Festivus:

The Manifestivus is held on 93 acres of breathtaking land in Cabot, six hours north of New York City and three hours from Boston or Montreal. Set on a gently rolling hillside meadow surrounded by forest, the timber stage creates an unforgettable vibe which last year hosted 1500 dancing, smiling, loving faces under a moonlit sky. The Festivus is founded by Toubab Krewe bassist David Pransky, and takes place on his family’s longtime farm.

The family-friendly event offers on-site camping, medical facilities and security, a VIP lounge, and vendors of authentic African and Ital food and local arts and crafts. Hiking trails wind through beaver ponds, marsh and woodland forest, and a large swimming pond. The 200 children attending in 2008 had their own safe play area with body paint and a bouncy house. This year they’ll also have a puppet theater and a little people’s water slide. An energy-saving sound system and LED lights use only a fraction of the power used at most festivals.

An amazing show last Friday night in Buffalo. MMW kicked off the Buffalo Rocks The Harbor concert series at 6pm with a funked out improvisational jazz set. Umphrey’s McGee took the stage at 8:45 and played one long tight set with some of my favorite jams including Miss Tinkle’s Overture and a 15 minute Mantis off their new LP.

Umphrey’s McGee continues their tour in support of their critically acclaimed album Mantis. Every time we’ve seen these guys they captivate us with their technical change ups, improvs, and dueling guitars. No other band out there possesses the amount of skill, timing, and genius songwriting as our favorite band from Chicago. They continue to blow audiences away no matter how many times you’ve seen them with a masterfully unique show every night.

This was my first time down at the concert venue at the Erie Canal Wharf. It’s a great space with an amazing boardwalk and view on the water. The venue is very family friendly and there is plenty of grass for blankets and chairs.

The only complaint I have is the lack of natural amphitheater. The area is mostly flat and the stage seems to be at the high end of the pitch. There isn’t much of a view anywhere behind the soundboard as there are two obtrusive soundboard tents.

YMSB has done it again. Another incredible set of intense jam grass in Buffalo. For the 4th year in a row the boys from Colorado were delighted to play for this intimate Buffalo crowd.

Joanne Osborne opened kicking off the 2nd night of a great concert series at the newly renovated Erie Canal Wharf Harbor. Complete with a beautiful boardwalk and breathtaking view of the harbor. What more can one ask for on a beautiful summer night?

July 16th to 19th 2009. Our favorite festival of the year – the 19th annual Fingerlakes Grassroots Festival has announced their lineup. Donna the Buffalo has been hosting the festival for 19 years to raise money for the fight against AIDS and other worthy causes, provide regional and national exposure for excellent local musicians, and expose the local and regional music lovers to excellent national and international artists.

The festival is presented over a four day period (Thursday-Sunday) on four stages which run ridiculously long hours to accommodate the 60 some bands that play the festival. The band selection reflects the eclectic tastes of our ‘amorphous committee’, a difficult to nail down group of musicians and artists who lean toward roots related & world music. GrassRoots doesn’t hesitate to bring you great music you’ve never heard of before.

Every year wonderful new bands are discovered and presented along with many old and true friends.

Fans from across the country converged on Manchester TN today for the first day of the Bonnnaroo Music Festival. The fans were greeted by long lines getting into the venue. Some campers who showed up mid day Friday found them selves waiting in line for as long as their car drive was – in some cases up to five hours.

Tent campers had a chance to test out their rain gear when torrential downpours came through around noon with hail and high winds.

Some festival goers made out better than others. One poor fan had this to say via Twitter: “Drove 780 miles to bonnaroo, spent a grand, waited in car line for 4 hours… Forgot tickets” ouch that’s got to hurt!

One of America’s biggest music festival starts Thursday when 80,000 fans converge on Manchester, TN.

The buzz on Twitter started days ago with Volunteers showing up at the venue to prepare for the festivities. This morning festival fans from across the nation began their cross state travels to brave the mud, rain, and heat for their favorite bands.

Below is a list of photos that capture the essence of Bonnaroo as heads form across the US pack their vans and make the trek to this musical oasis.

Buffalo holds the title as the only city where fans crowd-surf at a Disco Biscuit show – Mike Pollard (Tour Manger)

The Disco Biscuits become the first band to ever repeat as sole headliners at Buffalo Place’s Thursday At The Square concert series. The band fresh off their blazing Disco Inferno shows at Redrock’s last weekend played 2 sets for the eager Buffalo crowd.

The show started at 5:45pm with the upbeat fan favorite Rivers before closing the first set with Sabre Dance. The crowd was dancing from the moment the band hit the stage. There was crowd surfing galore and miles of smiles.

Although Bisco is set to release their first studio album since 2002 in the fall we didn’t get hear any of the new material tonight. There was plenty of life breathed into the existing material and a couple of great covers as well.

Here’s what the Buffalo News had to say about the show:

“…….An Evening With the Disco Biscuits — of ephemeral grooves that sounded like they were suspended in air. Before the seamless transition between songs, the band built up to its torrid breakdowns by repeating riffs just enough times before things got too comfortable.

Aron Magner’s keyboards and Allen Aucoin’s steady 4/4 disco beat were the dominant sounds coming from the stage, which made it all the more dance-worthy. If anything, the band sounded more polished this year.”

Bands know when they come to Buffalo they can count on great recordings from Adam Hudson. He’s done it again with another great Bisco AUD recording the 2nd year in a row.
