Jan Jimenez, a medical student at Pacific Northwest University, joined us in April to shadow and assist Dr. Haun at BMC. He excitement to serve was contagious and he will make a fantastic pediatrician. We wish him the best as he goes into residency in Las Vegas.

This year on his annual visit to BMC, Dr. Waite (locally known as Dr. Tiiya) brought along resident Dr. Christian Castilla. As always, Dr. Waite’s rapport with patients and mastery of the Mampruli language make him an invaluable colleague to our BMC staff.

It’s great every year to host a large team of residents, students and attending physicians from West Virginia University’s School of Medicine in Morgantown.

This year they had a team of eight that served alongside our Ghanaian medical professionals for the month of February. As always, we are grateful for their skills and compassion.

We are thrilled to have Dr. Nastia Furtak back at BMC to work in the Surgery Department alongside Dr. Haun and our talented team of professionals in the theatre. She currently plans to serve as a mid-term volunteer – staying for a year or more.

A native of Ukraine, Dr. Furtak is not new to BMC, she first came in January 2019 and filled in during Dr. Haun’s leave of absence from June 2019-September 2020 (the Hauns’ return was delayed due to the COVID pandemic). Since then, she has returned multiple times on short-term trips and has begun a partnership with institutions in Ukraine to send more medical volunteers to BMC.

Join us in thanking God for sending this talented physician to us and pray for her as she adjusts to our climate and learns the local language of Mampruli.

It was wonderfuful to host Physician Assistant students Chloe Nagi and Jadyn Block at BMC. Chloe and Jadyn spent last month working with Dr. Haun doing rounds, operating and following up on patients.

Dr. Teresa Fowler-Clark is one of our most faithful volunteers, coming to serve annually through the support of Samaritan’s Purse World Medical Mission program. Last month, she served alongside us for at BMC.

A huge thanks to the latest two Physician Assistant students to join us through the Trevecca Nazarene University’s PA program. Grace Sweeney and Leah Frydenberg spent almost five weeks assisting Dr. Haun in everything from rounds to surgical cases in the OR. They were a joy have serving alongside of us.

Dr. Nastia Furtak has been a regular volunteer at BMC; she even served for 21 months from 2019-2020 during the COVID pandemic. She continues to return regularly to BMC but this trip was exciting because she brought the first team from Ukraine to work with us this past month.

Accompanying Dr. Furtak were cardiologist Dr. Maria Derzhypilska and medical student Nastia Volkova. All three physicians worked very hard to overcome cultural and language barriers to care for the needs of their patients. We were truly blessed to have this Ukrainian team and hope the partnership will continue for many years.
