Barbizon of Arizona Grad, Sofia Vassilieva, has be nominated by the Charitable organization Stand Up To Cancer as one of their celebrity ambassadors for 2009! The ambassadors work together with a team to increase awareness and raise funds for cancer research. The ambassadors represent the overwhelming response of the entertainment community to the call of SU2C in the past year, and many have taken the opportunity to comment on how they have been affected by cancer.”

Sofia’s highly anticipated film called My Sister’s Keeper opens June 26. This is a very touching and dramatic story about how one daughter finds out she was born to help keep her older gravely ill sister alive and is based on Jodi Piccoult’s novel My Sister’s Keeper. It is truly a heart-wrenching story which highlights how the moral and ethical decisions these parents made affected their two daughters. Cameron Diaz plays Sara Fitzgerald, Abigail Breslin plays Anna Fitzgerald, the younger sister and Sofia plays Kate Fitzgerald, the gravely ill sister.

Barbizon of Cleveland grad, Sean Faris, movie “Forever Strong” is now out on DVD. Sean won the title of Junior Male Model of the Year in 1999. Some of his past projects include the motion picture Pearl Harbor, the TV show Reunion, Life as We Know It, and the feature film Sleepover with another Barbizon alum, Kallie Childress (Schaumburg). Sean has been featured in several memorable campaigns and magazines, including Abercrombie & Fitch, GQ, Teen Vogue and Armani. Sean is in production on the film The Glass Eye. He not only plays the lead character Danny but he is also producing it with his manager, Dino May. He is in post-production on three films: Brooklyn to Manhattan, Ghost Machine and King of Fighters. Pageants are in the business of making dreams come true…even if it’s for a short period of time. Some girls enter for the scholarship money or other prizes. Some enter with the hopes of launching a career in modeling or entertainment. Others do it for the title alone, to advance their platform, or simply for the opportunity to grow. Whatever your reasons, remember that you don’t have to actually win to achieve your goal. So, don’t just enter to win. Do it for the learning experience and the chance to meet new people. Life in general is filled with “wins’ and “losses.” Take each one in stride.

Pageants can typically have 5 elements of competitions:

1. Interview

4. Evening Gown
5. Final Question

Looking for a good movie? 17 Again is in wide release and getting lots of laughs…and Barbizon of Michigan grad Mario Cassem has a supporting role as Samir! The film stars Zac Efron as a man who wakes up one day, is seventeen again and has the chance to rewrite his life. Mario is signed with Martin Weiss Management, Daniel Hoff Agency and Diverse Talent Agency. Mario has appeared in My Own Worst Enemy, Mind of Mencia, Finding Bliss and The Timer Game. He will play a lead role in Stacy’s Mom.

Today’s professional model must have a larger variety of technical skills than ever before. That’s because today’s model has an array of opportunities facing her. Here’s a brief look at what modeling was like in the past several decades.

The 60s: The sixties ushered in the end of the hat & glove era. Models wore go-go boots, micro-minis and long fake eyelashes. Twiggy was the supermodel of the day.

The 70s: The seventies was a time when women explored new freedoms. Charlie’s Angels rule prime time and the models of the day were athletic looking natural beauties with long flowing hair.

The 80s: The eighties was the “ME” decade and Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren wanted to dress us. Amazon-like models such as Paulina and, near the end of the decade, Linda Evangelista wore big shoulder pads as the country watched “Dynasty” on Wednesday nights.

The 90s: The nineties roared in to the tune of the waif, and real women everywhere showed they prefer real-looking models by boycotting the fashions. As the decade matured, styles continued to churn and re-invent themselves.

Today, models don’t need to fit into a particular look or type. Along with the structure of modeling, the models themselves have taken on many looks. Remember, if you like what you see here, you’ll love it in our world.

Now that the summer months are vastly approaching, you’ll need to start thinking about getting a pair of sunglasses to protect your precious peepers. Here are some tips to help you find the perfect sunglasses for your face shape:

If your face is HEART-SHAPED, opt for thinner frames that won’t overpower your chin.

If your face is LONG, choose oversized square frames for balance.

If your face is ROUND, opt for rectangular styles that will minimize curves and give you a more angular look.

If your face is SQUARE, opt for rounder, curvy styles that will help soften your jaw line.

If your face is OVAL, you are one of the lucky ones because you can wear any style!

–Avoid eyeshadow that matches your eye color exactly.

–In general, blue eyes are flattered by cool tones like mauve. Green eyes look best in warm colors like clay and peach. Brown eyes can wear almost anything.

–Blend your eyeshadow well.

–Don’t apply too much. When in doubt, less is more.

–Intensify your color selection at night and for professional use.

–Always remove all makeup before going to sleep.
