When “Germany’s first hiking trail for nudists” opened on May 29, 2010 near the town of Dankerode, enthusiasm was running high — and not just among those who enjoy braving nature in the buff. Mayor Monika Rauhut hailed the trail as “the latest attraction here in beautiful Wippertal.”

The trail was an instant hit, which got us to wondering if such a thing might be a good idea in Switzerland, where the issue of nude hiking will soon be taken up by the Supreme Court. The “unofficial spokesperson” for Swiss lovers of the outdoor activity isn’t so sure. But Puistola Grottenpösch (not his real name) does see some upsides. A sanctioned trail would give many people an opportunity to experience the “bodily freedom” that only hiking in the nude offers — an experience that “fills you with happiness,” he says.

Sometimes you take a photo and it sits in your archives for 30 years. This was the very first photo of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver taken in Las Vegas at a Kenny Rogers Golden Nugget celebrity softball game. I sold the heck out of it breaking the story that they were together and then it sat dormant in my archives for decades. Now that they have announced their split, the photo is once again HOT!

Maria was NOT amused when I pointed my camera in her direction, but Arnold did not give a shit. I ran into Maria a few months ago at a party and we joked about this photo. What the heck is she wearing!!!

The previous best launch this year was the $38 million bow for the Johnny Depp cartoon “Rango,” which remains the biggest release of 2011 with $119 million. “Rio” ended the two-week reign of another cartoon, the Easter-themed “Hop.”

“I was asked by the NYT to draw Glenn Beck for the cover of the Sunday magazine - apparently, he wasn’t going to sit down for a photo-shoot with the Times and so they had to hire an illustrator for their big profile. I had been longing to draw his blubbery face for some time and happily agreed. I turned in the illustration on a Monday and was told that Beck had in fact agreed to come in and sit for a photo over the weekend, so they couldn’t use my illustration. Thanks for telling me. The B&W photo they used was perhaps a bit more complimentary to Mr. Beck, so I’d say he made a good call.”

I go around with a Zoom H4n recording machine, recording everything. My main thing is trying to capture the remembered but otherwise lost performances of the great musicians I see.

With bootleg recording you want as much sound as possible to go straight into the mikes without bouncing off…
