Electric company meter-readers, landscapers, and other deliverymen possibly have the best opportunity to discover vehicles “just out of view” from car collectors. After all, they can venture onto properties, look behind bushes, and peer into barns. The story of Cobra CSX2149 begins this way, when a propane gas delivery driver looked into a customer’s remote barn near Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1993.

Drivable Barn Find: 1964 Corvette Convertible

This 1964 Corvette Convertible had been sitting for over 20 years. The seller has since pulled it out of storage and replaced a few parts to make it drivable. It is now running, has a new top, and a clean interior. The frame is claimed to be solid, so we would probably just go through the suspension and drive it as is. It would be a great candidate for restoration, but we personally like the current look. Find it here on eBay out of Kingston, New York.

Post-Studebaker: 1966 Avanti II

This Avanti was actually built after Studebaker folded. Leo Newman and Nate Altman purchased part of the original factory and set up shop. They shoved a Chevrolet 327 under the hood and named it the Avanti II. This particular example is very clean and has been owned by the seller for 22 years. They claim the car to be original and unrestored. We have our doubts about the paint, but you be the judge. Find it here on eBay out of Buffalo, New York.

Black Plate Driver: 1966 Ford Mustang

This 1966 Mustang was once a garage find, but has since been returned to active duty. The owner tried to keep as much of the car as original as possible while still replacing the items that just weren’t worth saving. It’s not perfect, but the A code 289, four-speed tranny, and deluxe Pony interior should make it an entertaining driver. You could find a more original Mustang, but if you actually want to drive it, we think this could be a good buy. Bidding starts at $5,000 here on eBay out of Fortuna, California.

“Dutch” Estate Sale Lincolns

Over the past year, cars have been trickling out of the estate of the late George “Dutch” Fuchs. Apparently he was a collector from the St. Louis area, but we couldn’t find any other information about him or his collection. Take this beautifully styled Karmann Ghia, which isn’t all that much different than a Porsche, but isn’t nearly as valuable. Sure there are differences, but are they worth such a huge jump in value? 1961 Triumph TR3A Garage Find

Garage Find 1970 MGB GT Project

The previous owner of this 1970 MGB GT sadly passed away and his wife wants it to move on to a new family. It’s been parked for the past 16 years and is in need of a restoration. It appears that everything is still there, but it has plenty dents, dings, and scrapes. A friend has listed it here on eBay for her, with a BIN of $2,995 and the option to make an offer.

Patinated 1968 Ford LTD Country Squire

The word “Patina” gets thrown around a lot nowadays, but when does patina look good and when has it turned into nothing more than a rust problem? Obviously, determining that is based in part on opinion, but it is also based on how severe the rust really is. This 1968 Ford Country Squire wagon could be a perfect example of a car with great patina, as it gives it character, but isn’t affecting the structural integrity of the body. Find it here on craigslist, with an asking price of $3,500.
