🏀 FINAL RESULTS | TEAM TOBA 🇨🇦

The 2026 Canada Basketball National Championships have officially come to a close for Team Manitoba. The 15U Female team finished in 8th place with a 3-3 overall record following a narrow 53-51 loss to New Brunswick on the final day. The 15U Male team finished 4th in Canada with a 3-2 record after falling 68-60 to Nova Scotia in the bronze medal game. The 17U Female team completed the championships in 7th place with a 2-4 record, while the 17U Male team finished 6th nationally with a 3-2 record following a 103-83 loss to Nova Scotia in their final game.

Across all four teams, Team Toba finished the National Championships with a combined .500 (11-11) record over 22 games.

🏀 DAY 5 RESULTS | TEAM TOBA

Team Toba continued bracket play Friday at the 2026 Canada Basketball National Championships, finishing the day with a 1-3 record across four games. The 17U Male team picked up Manitoba’s victory with a 92-80 win over New Brunswick, improving to 3-1 overall. The 15U Female team battled Newfoundland and Labrador in a close 62-56 loss and now sits at 3-2, while the 15U Male team fell 101-55 to Ontario and moves to 3-1. The 17U Female team was defeated 85-57 by Saskatchewan and now holds a 1-4 record. Through Day 5, Team Toba’s four teams have combined for a 10-8 overall record at the National Championships.

Team Toba posted a 1-1 record on Day 4 of the Canada Basketball National Championships, highlighted by a dominant performance from the 15U Female team, which rolled to a 92-42 victory over Prince Edward Island to improve to 3-1. The 17U Female team battled Alberta right to the final buzzer before dropping a hard-fought 58-50 decision and now sits at 1-3.

The 15U Male (3-0) and 17U Male (2-1) teams both enjoyed scheduled bye days and will return to the court as championship competition continues. Through four days of play, Team Toba owns a combined tournament record of 9-5 and all four Manitoba teams remain in contention as they advance to the next phase of the tournament.

Team Toba finished Day 3 with a 2-2 record, bringing its overall tournament mark to 8-4 through three days of competition. The 15U Male team remained undefeated with a gritty 71-65 victory over Alberta to improve to 3-0, while the 17U Female squad earned its first win of the tournament with a convincing 79-56 victory over Newfoundland, moving to 1-2. The 15U Female team fell to a strong Quebec side, 80-42, and now sits at 2-1, while the 17U Male team dropped a 91-71 decision to Quebec and moves to 2-1.

With pool play entering its final stages, Team Toba continues to be well positioned heading into the playoff rounds. The 15U Male team remains unbeaten, the 15U Female squad is in strong contention at 2-1, the 17U Male team sits at 2-1, and the 17U Female team will look to build on its first victory of the tournament. Team Toba continued its strong start at the 2026 Canada Basketball National Championships, posting a perfect 3–0 record on Day 2 to improve to 6–2 overall through the opening two days of competition. The 15U Female team remained undefeated with a hard-fought 50–46 victory over Nova Scotia, while the 15U Male squad also improved to 2–0 after an impressive 84–48 win over Newfoundland. The 17U Male team completed the perfect day with a convincing 90–65 victory over New Brunswick, moving to 2–0 in the tournament. The 17U Female team enjoyed a scheduled bye and will return to action tomorrow.

Team Toba wrapped up opening day at the 2026 Canada Basketball National Championships with a strong 3–2 overall record across five games. The 15U Female squad opened the tournament with a hard-fought 78–72 victory over Newfoundland, while the 15U Male team earned a convincing 101–20 win over Northwest Territories. The 17U Male team also started the championship on the right foot, defeating Prince Edward Island 111–61. The 17U Female team faced a demanding opening day with a pair of games, falling to New Brunswick (94–61) before dropping their second contest to Québec (86–46).

Four Basketball Manitoba Provincial Teams are preparing to represent the province at the 2026 Canada Basketball U15 and U17 National Championships, running from August 3–8, 2026.

Manitoba’s 15U and 17U female teams will compete in Sherbrooke, Quebec, at the Bishop’s University Sports Centre, while the 15U and 17U male teams will travel to Regina, Saskatchewan, for competition at the University of Regina Centre for Kinesiology, Health and Sport.

The championships bring together Canada’s top provincial and territorial teams and provide athletes with an opportunity to compete on the national stage while continuing their development within Canada Basketball’s high-performance pathway.

Three Manitoba Athletes Named All-Canadians at 2026 Canada Basketball 15U and 17U National Championships

Basketball Manitoba is proud to share that three Team Manitoba athletes - Esther Yugu, Jaco Ong and Terry Ogbeide - have been named Second Team All-Canadians following their performances at the 2026 Canada Basketball National Championships.

The national recognition caps a strong week for the three Winnipeg athletes, who represented Manitoba at the 15U and 17U levels. Yugu was recognized from the Manitoba 15U Female team, Ong from the 15U Male team and Ogbeide from the 17U Male team.

Esther Yugu, a 14-year-old forward, represented Manitoba with the 15U Female team, which completed the National Championships with a 3-3 record and an eighth-place finish. The Winnipeg product has been playing basketball for five years and competes with Attack Academy. She will attend Kildonan-East Collegiate this fall after completing Grade 8. Yugu has identified playing professionally and reaching the WNBA among her long-term basketball goals, with plans to pursue an opportunity to play in the United States following high school.

Jaco Ong, a 15-year-old guard, helped Manitoba's 15U Male team finish fourth nationally with a 3-2 record. A member of the Relentless basketball club, Ong started all five games for Manitoba and averaged a team-leading 18.6 points per game while shooting 48.2% from the field and 36.8% from three-point range. He also averaged 3.8 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.4 assists per game. Ong has played basketball for 11 years and will attend St. Paul's High School this fall. His future goals include playing university basketball and eventually becoming a professional basketball trainer.

Terry Ogbeide, a 17-year-old guard, helped the Manitoba 17U Male team to a sixth-place national finish and a 3-2 overall record. The Manitoba Magic athlete started all five games and averaged 14.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.8 steals per game. Ogbeide was highly efficient offensively, shooting 60.8% from the field and 41.2% from three-point range during the championships.

The Second Team All-Canadian recognition adds to Ogbeide's growing list of accomplishments representing Manitoba. He has been playing basketball for four years and will attend Victory Christian Academy in Florida this fall. His long-term goal is to play professional basketball, with aspirations of reaching the NBA and eventually working as a basketball trainer after his playing career.

All three athletes are from Winnipeg and have progressed through Manitoba's basketball development system before earning national recognition with Team Toba.

The 2026 Canada Basketball National Championships took place from August 2-8, with Manitoba's 15U and 17U teams representing the province on the national stage. Basketball Manitoba's four teams combined to play 21 games during the championships.

Sea Bears Top Vancouver 107-96 to Win the West and Advance to CEBL Championship Final; Tickets Now Available

The Winnipeg Sea Bears have advanced to the Canadian Elite Basketball League Championship Final for the first time in franchise history after defeating the Vancouver Bandits 107-96 in the Western Conference Final on Saturday, August 8, 2026.

Shorthanded, tested and playing more than 2,000 kilometres from home, Winnipeg delivered a historic road performance despite missing three starters. No previous Sea Bears team had advanced this far in the CEBL playoffs.

Simon Hildebrandt led the way with 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including four three-pointers, providing a steady presence throughout the afternoon.

"It means a lot," Hildebrandt said. "We've battled a lot of adversity this year. It's been our goal since day one. Playing as a true team today, we made it work."

The Sea Bears faced adversity almost immediately. Xavier Moon collected three fouls during the opening six-and-a-half minutes and remained on the bench for the rest of the first quarter and the entire second quarter. D.J. Burns also encountered foul trouble, picking up three fouls during the second quarter and spending an extended stretch on the bench.

Moon remained engaged before returning to finish with 24 points.

"It was real tough, not being able to play," Moon said. "I tried to stay engaged, keep the guys as focused as I could. And once I got back in there, I just tried to keep doing what I was doing in that first quarter."

Despite playing without starters Teddy Allen, Jeremiah Tilmon Jr. and Emmanuel Akot, Winnipeg's depth proved decisive. Hildebrandt and Moon scored 24 points apiece, while Trey McGowens added 18, Burns contributed 14 and Isiah Osborne finished with 13. Jelani Watson-Gayle provided another 11 points off the bench.

"We had so many guys come in and give big contributions," Hildebrandt said. "That next man up mentality was just unbelievable."

Osborne added another milestone by recording his fifth target-score winning basket of the season. The total ties the Sea Bears franchise record established by Watson-Gayle in 2023 and matched by Jalen Harris in 2025.

The Western Conference championship sends Winnipeg to the CEBL Championship series against the Brampton Honey Badgers. Game 1 will be played in Brampton on Wednesday, August 12.

The series will then shift to Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg for Game 2 on Saturday, August 15 at 2:30 p.m. CT. If required, Game 3 will also be played at Canada Life Centre on Sunday, August 16 at 2:30 p.m. CT.

Winnipeg Minor Basketball Fall / Winter 2026-27 League Registration Opens Aug 17 for Ages 7–17

The Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association (WMBA) has announced that registration for its Fall 2026–Winter 2027 Community League will open on Monday, August 17, 2026. The city-wide program welcomes players ages 7–17 and runs from October 2026 through March 2027, with registration available through each player’s local community centre.

WMBA teams are formed according to community centre catchment areas and compete against teams from across Winnipeg. If a player’s registered community centre is unable to host a team, the player will be transferred to the nearest community centre able to accept them. The league follows fair-play and zero-tolerance standards designed to provide young athletes with a fun, safe and positive basketball experience.

League Divisions and Formats

Ages 7–8 (co-ed): One Saturday game per week, plus practices; 3-on-3 cross-court format.
Ages 9–12 girls and ages 9–13 boys: One Saturday game per week, plus practices. Ages 9–10 play 3-on-3 cross-court games; ages 11–13 boys and 11–12 girls play 5-on-5 full-court games.
Ages 13–17 girls and ages 14–17 boys: One Sunday game per week, plus practices; 5-on-5 full-court format.

Important Dates

Registration opens: Monday, August 17, 2026
Registration closes: Friday, September 18, 2026
Team building and league administration: September 20–30, 2026
Practices begin: Between October 1 and October 16, 2026
League games, playoffs and City Championships: Mid March 2027

League Fees

Total fees consist of the WMBA membership fee, which is still to be announced, plus the applicable community club basketball fee. Community club fees generally range from $80 to $100. WMBA maintains a no-refund policy, although exceptions may be considered at the discretion of the Executive Director.

The total player fee will be $295 each

Volunteer Coaches Needed

WMBA is also seeking volunteer coaches to help support teams and shape the next generation of basketball players. Volunteer coaches are essential to delivering a positive experience for athletes and strengthening basketball within Winnipeg communities.

Sea Bears Host Saskatoon to Open 2026 Playoff Run Thursday Night

The Winnipeg Sea Bears closed the regular season 14-10, finishing second in the Western Conference after a tough travel scenario contributed to a 114-90 loss in Vancouver on Sunday. The Sea Bears aren't dwelling on it. Head Coach and General Manager Mike Raimbault made clear the focus has already shifted. "At this point, we have to look past that and concentrate on the things that are ahead of us."

Against Saskatoon, the numbers are on Winnipeg's side. The Sea Bears went 3-1 against the Mamba this season and are a perfect 2-0 against them at home. That home court advantage figures to be a major factor and Raimbault is counting on the crowd to play a role. "We're going to need every ounce of energy those fans can give us. We expect this place to be as loud and supportive as they've been all season."

The biggest news heading into Thursday is the absence of Teddy Allen, who will not be available for the game. We continue to stand with Teddy and wish him a full and speedy recovery. The team's response has been resolute. "Obviously it's an unfortunate circumstance," said Xavier Moon, "but at the end of the day, we're here to do a job, and that's what we're gonna do."

To add depth up front for the postseason run, Winnipeg has signed forward Ben Stevens, with Emmanuel Akot and Jeremiah Tillman Jr both moving to the reserve roster. The 6'10" centre is no stranger to joining new teams at short notice, bringing four seasons of professional experience to the group. "It's a great organization, it was an easy decision," said Stevens. "Everywhere I've been, I've been a rebounder, and that's something I can absolutely do to help this team."

Saskatoon is playing well and Raimbault knows it. "They're shooting the ball great from range. We've got to control the dribble, make sure every shot is contested, and have a total team defensive effort."

2026 Junior Officials Basketball Clinics Registration Now Open

Basketball Manitoba, in partnership with the Manitoba Association of Basketball Officials, is pleased to offer the 'Junior Officials Development Program' (JODP) clinics for people new to refereeing who are 15 years of age or older. The program is designed to improve the overall level of officiating in Junior High/Middle School and minor basketball leagues.

The clinic registration fee of $75.00 has been set for the 2026-2027 basketball season.

Basketball Manitoba is pleased to announce the High-Performance Camp from Monday, August 24 to Thursday, August 27, 2026, for boys and girls ages 9 to 15!

Head coaches Randy Kusano, Victor Lee, and Katrina Rogan, along with guest coaches, will lead the girls' camp on court 3. The boys' camp sessions will be led by head coaches Dan Becker and Keenan Benarroch, along with guest coaches, on courts 1 and 2.

The cost of the camp is $140.00 per player, which includes the camp, insurance and a Basketball Manitoba t-shirt.

The registration deadline is FRIDAY, AUGUST 21, 2026, at 12:00 pm or when the camp sells out. The camps sell out each year, so register now to avoid disappointment.

LEAD COACH BIOS:

Randy Kusano was the winningest coach in the history of high school basketball in Manitoba. His high school teams won three MHSAA (Manitoba High School Athletic Association) AAAA Provincial Championships provincial titles and 11 conference titles, and he coached in 15 AAAA Final Fours in his 34 years coaching with the Oak Park Raiders in Winnipeg before retiring from teaching in 2010. A University of Manitoba graduate, Kusano is a current fully certified NCCP Level 3 coach with nearly 25 years of CIS coaching experience as an assistant with the Bison men’s and women's basketball program.

Randy has been involved in basketball as a player and coach for over forty years. He developed his love for basketball at Norberry Junior High in St. Vital, playing for Hall of Famer Dennis Alvestad. He moved on to Glenlawn Collegiate and finally to the University of Manitoba. Randy was a member of three consecutive Canadian Junior Men’s championship teams from 1971-1973. In 1976 he was a member of the first Manitoba team to win a National University championship in basketball, the University of Manitoba Bisons.

After his university years were done, he continued playing with the Nicolett Inn Senior men’s team that captured their first National Senior Men’s Championship in 1979. The University of Manitoba Junior Men and Nicolett Inn Senior men’s teams were later inducted into the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame.

Randy’s coaching career began with the University of Manitoba Junior Bisons in 1974 and continued there until 1976. He has coached high school basketball for the past thirty-four years, thirty-two as head coach of the Varsity Boys program at Oak Park High School.

Over his 34 years at Oak Park, Randy developed the dominant high school program of its era, going to 15 Final Fours and winning 3 AAAA Provincial Championships. During this time, he has helped to develop more than twenty-five players who have gone on to play at the Canadian College or CIS level. Randy has also served as an assistant coach at the University of Manitoba for fifteen years.

Randy has also coached numerous Manitoba Provincial teams as head coach and as an assistant coach at the Canada Games, Western Canada Games, and National Championships.

Victor Lee is an emerging coach within Manitoba's basketball system with experience across school, club, and provincial development environments. A graduate of Oak Park High School, Lee returned to the program as an assistant coach before assuming head coaching duties for the varsity boys team ahead of the 2024–2025 season.

At the club level, Lee serves as the head coach of Evolve Basketball's U18 female program, following a season as an assistant coach. Under his leadership, the program has achieved significant competitive success. His coaching approach emphasizes team culture, accountability, and long-term athlete development, with a strong focus on creating positive learning environments. Lee is currently completing his Bachelor of Education at the University of Manitoba and remains actively engaged in basketball development through coaching, volunteer involvement, and service within Basketball Manitoba.

Katrina Rogan is an experienced coach with a strong background across school, club, and provincial development environments. She currently serves as the Head Coach of the Vincent Massey Collegiate Junior Varsity Girls program, where she focuses on building confident, skilled athletes within a positive and competitive team culture. In addition, Rogan is an assistant coach with the Junior Bisons Prairie Elite Basketball League program and is actively involved with the Canada Basketball Junior Academy in Winnipeg

At the club level, Rogan is the head coach of the Evolve Basketball U15 girls program, working closely with athletes on skill development, basketball IQ, and long-term progression. A former Manitoba Provincial Team athlete, she competed at both the 15U and 17U levels before continuing her playing career with the University of Winnipeg. Rogan brings a player-centred approach shaped by recent high-level playing experience, emphasizing development, confidence, and a strong connection to the game.

Dan Becker has been an active player and coach for over 30 years at all levels of the game. His playing history began as a standout player at Fort Richmond Collegiate, which led him to play NCAA Division 1 basketball at the University of Colorado. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing Degree, Dan continued his basketball career, playing 12 years for a variety of teams and leagues all over the globe, including stints with the Winnipeg Thunder and the Winnipeg Cyclone. In the summer of 1991, Dan was invited to try out for the Denver Nuggets and Indiana Pacers of the NBA. Dan's playing career also saw him represent Team Canada in the late 80s and early 90s on various Student and Training National Teams, including the World Universiade Games in Germany and 2 Jones Cups in Taipei, Taiwan.

As a coach, Dan has worked with players at many different levels. Dan completed his NCCP Level 4 education at the National Coaching Institute in Winnipeg. He assisted at the CIS men's level from 2000 to 2004 and took the interim head coaching duties in 2004-05 with the University of Manitoba Men's Program. Over this same time period, Dan coached a number of Basketball Manitoba's Provincial Teams at the 15U and 17U levels, winning a bronze medal at the 2004 17U. In 2014, Dan led the Manitoba 17U Male Provincial team to their first-ever Gold Medal at the National Championship. Dan was an active coach in the Canada Basketball Centre for Performance Program and an instructor at the Nike All-Canada Camp. Dan has also served as the Basketball Technical Advisor for three feature films; ESPN's 'A Season on the Brink' in 2001, 'Full of It' in 2005, and “Champions” in 2023.

From 2005 to 2010, Dan worked with Randy Kusano and the Oak Park Raiders Varsity male' Program, winning two Provincial Championships and making five consecutive Final Four appearances. Dan coached the University of Winnipeg Collegiate Varsity male team during the 2010-11 season. Dan has also coached grassroots programs in the school system, RSL, WMBA, and Peg City leagues.

Dan is the Head Coach for many of the Basketball Manitoba High-Performance programs and is also a Learning Facilitator and Coach Evaluator in the new NCCP coaching education program.

In 2013, Dan was inducted into the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame in the Player category in recognition of his tremendous playing career. Dan currently resides in Winnipeg, is married and has 3 children.

Keenan Benarroch has been involved in basketball for nearly a decade, both as a player and a coach. He played for the University of Manitoba Bisons from 2014 to 2017.

Following his playing career, Keenan served as an assistant coach for the University of Manitoba Men’s Basketball team during the 2017–2018 season. During this time, he also worked as a program coordinator for the Junior Bisons. He later joined the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Women’s Basketball team as an Assistant Coach, a role he held from 2019 to 2023. In the 2021–2022 season, Keenan played a key role in helping the team achieve a perfect 20–0 record, capturing both the OUA and U SPORTS National Championships.

Keenan has been deeply involved in provincial and grassroots basketball. In 2021, he served as the Head Coach for the Downtown Toronto Centre for Performance and as an Apprentice Coach with the Ontario 15U Provincial Girls team. He has also worked extensively in athlete development as a Head Coach of a 14U boys team and as a coach within the Junior Academy program in Winnipeg.

In 2020, Keenan worked as a Video and Performance Analyst for Canada Basketball’s 3x3 Men’s National Team during the Olympic Qualifying Tournament, where he analyzed game footage and provided performance insights to support team success.

Currently, Keenan is pursuing a Bachelor of Education at the University of Manitoba while coaching the JV boys team at Fort Richmond Collegiate and assisting with the University of Manitoba Bisons program.

Peg City Basketball has announced it is giving Winnipeg adult teams more ways to play this fall with two league options designed to match different schedules, competitive levels and season commitments. Teams and individual players can choose between the full-season Peg City Premier League and the new, shorter-format Peg City Classic League.

The Premier League offers a complete, full-season basketball experience featuring:

BTBD Hoops x Relentless Launches New Team Development Division, Names Rodger Salm as Director

BTBD Hoops x Relentless has announced the launch of its new Team Development Division, reinforcing the club’s commitment to building one of Manitoba’s premier basketball development programs.

Leading the new division is Rodger Salm, who joins the organization as Director of Team Development. In this strategic leadership role, Salm will focus on strengthening the club through player recruitment, coach mentorship, communications, community partnerships, organizational growth and creating a positive experience for athletes and their families.

With more than 30 years of leadership, marketing and organizational development experience, combined with over a decade of coaching youth basketball and his current role as an assistant coach with the Canadian Mennonite University women’s basketball program, Salm brings a unique blend of business leadership and basketball experience to the organization.

“Basketball has always been about more than wins and losses. It is about creating opportunities, building confidence and helping young athletes reach their full potential. I am excited to work alongside Patrick and the coaching staff to continue building a club that families are proud to be part of,” said Salm.

Patrick Sumugat, owner of BTBD Hoops x Relentless, believes the new position reflects the club’s long-term vision.

“Rodger’s experience extends far beyond basketball. He understands how successful organizations are built and how strong cultures are created. Today on the Basketball Manitoba Podcast, we have Patrick Mart.

He has been involved in basketball for over two decades as both a player and a coach. He is currently a teacher and coach at River Heights School, where he continues to play a key role in developing young athletes.

As a coach, he has contributed extensively to the basketball community. He has served as the head coach of the junior varsity boys team and as an assistant with the varsity boys program at Sturgeon Heights Collegiate.

He has also served as an assistant coach with the 17U Manitoba Provincial Team on multiple occasions and is involved with the Canada Basketball Junior Academy and various club programs across the province.

As a player, he competed at Sturgeon Heights Collegiate before representing Manitoba at the provincial level. He continued his playing career at NAIT College, and he holds a degree in Education from the University of Winnipeg.

This summer, he will lead the 15U boys Provincial Team for the second year in a row to the Canada Basketball National Championships in August.

Cobras Basketball Club has announced an upcoming team tryout for boys born in 2010 as the club prepares for the next basketball season.

The tryout will take place on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Sturgeon Heights Community Centre, 210 Rita Street in Winnipeg.

The registration fee is $15 per player and must be paid by e-transfer.

These online clinics are valid for 3 years, as determined by Canada Basketball, and do not need to be completed again until that time passes.

Safe Sport Training – Direct Athlete Contact (90 min)

These courses must be completed no later than December 11, 2026, and are available at no cost to all MABO members.

Winnipeg’s Keylyn Filewich Signs with Domusa Teknik ISB in Spain’s LF Challenge for 2026–27 Season

Winnipeg basketball standout Keylyn Filewich has signed with Domusa Teknik ISB for the 2026–27 season, continuing her professional career in Spain’s LF Challenge.

The 6'1" forward/centre joins the Basque Country club after a strong 2025–26 campaign with Östersund Basket in Sweden’s top women’s league. Filewich averaged 13.9 points, 10.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists in nearly 31 minutes per game, giving Domusa Teknik ISB a proven interior presence and consistent production at both ends of the court.

Born in Winnipeg in 1998, Filewich developed through the Manitoba basketball system and starred at Vincent Massey Collegiate before beginning her U SPORTS career with the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds. She later returned home to play her final university season with the University of Winnipeg Wesmen.

Filewich produced an exceptional 2021–22 season with the Wesmen, earning the Nan Copp Memorial Trophy as the U SPORTS Women’s Basketball Player of the Year and first-team U SPORTS All-Canadian honours.

Her professional career has included stops in Germany with VfL VIACTIV-AstroLadies Bochum and in Sweden with Östersund Basket. The move to Domusa Teknik ISB will bring Filewich to Spain’s LF Challenge, the country’s second-highest women’s division, for the next stage of her international career.

Domusa Teknik ISB welcomed the Canadian signing through its social media channels, highlighting Filewich’s scoring, rebounding and playmaking numbers from last season.

Westman Youth Basketball Registration for Eight-Week 2026 Skill Development Program in Brandon

The Westman Youth Basketball Association (WYBA) has opened registration for its 2026 Skill Development Program, an eight-week fall training opportunity for boys and girls from Kindergarten through Grade 12.

The program will run from Tuesday, September 8 through Thursday, October 29, 2026, at St. Augustine School, located at 330 3rd Street in Brandon, Manitoba. Eight weekly skill sessions will be offered to novice, intermediate and advanced players.

The updated program format aligns with Canada Basketball’s Long-Term Athlete Development model and will help participants strengthen fundamental skills, including shooting, dribbling, passing and defence. Players will also learn team concepts through 3-on-3 small-sided games, providing more ball touches, improved spacing, increased movement and additional opportunities to apply their skills in game-like situations.

Tuesday Boys’ Sessions — September 8 to October 27

Boys in Grades 4 to 7: 6:00 to 7:20 p.m.
Boys in Grades 8 and 9: 7:20 to 8:40 p.m.
Boys in Grades 10 to 12: 8:40 to 10:00 p.m.

Winkler Basketball Club to Host Mark Hamm Memorial 3x3 Tournament August 8 During Harvest Festival Weekend

The Winkler Basketball Club will honour the memory of Coach Mark Hamm by hosting the Mark Hamm Memorial 3x3 Basketball Tournament on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Pine Ridge Basketball Courts in Winkler.

Taking place during Winkler’s Harvest Festival weekend, the outdoor tournament will bring together male and female teams across several youth and adult divisions for a full day of FIBA 3x3 basketball.

Competition will be offered in the following categories:

14U male and female
16U male and female
18U male and female
Men’s and women’s 19+

The registration fee is $80 per team, with teams permitted to register a maximum of four players. Each participating team is guaranteed a minimum of three games, and competition will follow official FIBA 3x3 rules.

Ignite Canada Basketball has announced its open tryout schedule for three boys’ club teams ahead of the 2026–27 basketball season.

Tryouts for boys born in 2010, 2011 and 2013 will be held over three days from Friday, August 21 through Sunday, August 23 at the University of Saint-Boniface in Winnipeg. Each age group will participate in three evaluation sessions under its designated coaching staff.

Former Dakota Standout Izzi Fust Signs with the University of Manitoba Bisons

Izzi Fust will wear the Brown and Gold this season, becoming the third member of her family to suit up for the Bisons and the second in as many years. She rejoins her sister, Kyu Fust, who returned home to play for Manitoba last season. Their father, Paul, was a five-year standout with the Bisons men's basketball team and earned GPAC First Team All-Star honours in 1999.

Now, it's Izzi's turn to play for the team she grew up admiring.

"You've grown up watching them and you've grown up looking up to them, so I think it's really cool to get to be that role model for some of the kids," she said.

The former top-ranked high school basketball player in Manitoba spent the past two seasons with the Regina Cougars after graduating from Dakota Collegiate. Now, she's embracing the opportunity to continue her career closer to home.

"It's pretty cool to get to play in front of your friends and family, getting to have your support system as close as they are now."

Her return gives Bisons fans a chance to see the sisterly chemistry that helped fuel Dakota Collegiate's dominance just a few years ago. With only a year separating them in age, Kyu and Izzi developed a unique connection on the court while leading the Lancers to consecutive championships.

"Their connection was natural, unscripted," recalled former Dakota coach Eric Sung. "They did so many things complementary of each other that helped us be successful as a group."

"We grew up playing together, so we definitely have that sort of connection," Izzi added. "She's my biggest supporter."

Individually, Izzi arrives with an impressive résumé. The six-foot-one wing helped lead Dakota Collegiate to three provincial championships, earned recognition as Manitoba's top-ranked player in 2024, and was selected to compete in the All-Canadian Games alongside many of the country's top prospects.

Her success continued at the U SPORTS level with Regina. During the 2024-25 season, she earned both Canada West All-Rookie Team and U SPORTS All-Rookie Team honours, establishing herself as one of the nation's top first-year players.

"Izzi was one of the top athletes in the country coming out of high school, and we've continued to watch her development closely throughout her time in Regina," said Manitoba head coach Michèle Sung.

"She brings grit, versatility, and high-level experience to our program. What stands out most is her ability to impact the game in a variety of ways, and we're excited to see her continue her growth in a Bisons uniform."

Fust's development also earned her a spot on Team Canada at Global Jam 2025, where she competed alongside some of the country's top young talent. Off the court, she has been equally successful, earning Academic All-Canadian honours in each of her first two university seasons.

Her move to Manitoba also reunites her with several former Dakota teammates, including Darya Rom, Hope LaRocque and Taylor Schepp, another former Manitoba top prospect. Most importantly, it gives the Fust sisters the chance to represent their hometown university together while adding another chapter to a family legacy deeply rooted in Manitoba basketball.

"I'm extremely excited to announce my commitment to U of M," Fust said. "I'm thankful for the opportunity to play at home and looking forward to being a Bison."

Fust gives the Bisons another talented local player with championship experience, national team credentials and a proven track record of success. Her addition strengthens a Manitoba roster that continues to build around elite homegrown talent while competing among the top programs in Canada West.

With Izzi now joining Kyu in the Brown and Gold, the next generation of the Fust family is ready to make its mark at Manitoba.

The Manitoba Magic basketball club has announced its boys’ and girls’ club team tryout schedule for the 2026–27 season, with evaluations taking place Saturday, August 22 and Sunday, August 23 at Canadian Mennonite University in Winnipeg.

The two-day tryout weekend will include opportunities for girls born from 2009 through 2012 and boys in several age divisions covering birth years from 2009 through 2016. Athletes are required to attend both scheduled tryout sessions for their respective division.

All evaluations will be held at Canadian Mennonite University, 500 Shaftesbury Boulevard. The tryout fee is $25 per athlete.
