Now I know what you are thinking, Yamamoto plastics, why isn't this thing called a senko? Well apparently it is the same bait although the diameter on this bait is a little smaller making it slightly better for some setups such as the wacky rig or the T rig. The price of the kinami Flash Worm is also cheaper compared to the Senko. The Flash Worm comes in 20 different colors and includes all sorts of different sparkles in the plastic. Here's where it gets a little funnier and I don't know why this did this but they come in either 4" or 5" and some packs have 6 Flash Worms and some packs have 7 Flash Worms depending on the color you choose.

The Con's:
Its a soft plastic bait, Yamamoto likes to impregnate his worms with a Ton of salt, so much salt that it makes a salt shaker jealous. Soft plastic baits impregnated with a lot of salt tend to break and tear easier then other soft plastic baits. It has its uses with buoyancy and slow falling but after a couple of bass you will need to change out your bait.

Is it a Good Buy?
Its not bad, Its a cheaper alternative to the Senko, both baits have there merits but you can get Yum Dingers just as cheap if not cheaper.

Storm Kickin' Goby

The Pro's:
The Storm Kickin' Goby caught my eye at a gander mountain a few month's back, I purchased this lure in hopes that it would be a smallmouth bass killer. It turned out to be mildly successful due to its con's (see below). The idea is great and I think if i fished in a lake with a more abundant goby population it would work better. The Storm Kickin Goby has cought me a decent amount of bass and it will be tested more this spring during spawn, I have a feeling it is going to be killer around spawning beds. The lure itself is made of soft plastic like many other Storm lures and has a holographic insert that is molded into the lures body, Although you can't tell from the picture the lure is also jointed.

The Con's:
I found out that it is a difficult lure to fish due to my lack of patience that I earned from zipping crankbaits all last summer. The Storm Kickin' Goby requires an extremely slow retrieve to keep it upright, if fished to fast it will also spin and cause line tangles and twists.

Is it a good Buy?
Its an ok lure so far, but there is no need for one in your tackle box.

Berkley PowerBait Crazy Legs Chigger Craws

The Pro's:
Whoa! Berkley Powerbait has thrown out another awesome creature bait and I am all about it. Creature baits are one of my favorite late spring early summer baits that I will use on nearly every fishing trip. So then why am i so nuts about weird and strange baits? Ill tell you why, They catch bass, they catch Monster Bass, and the small mouth bass will push there own grandmother's out of the way for a bite. The Berkley PowerBait Crazy Legs Chigger Craws closely resembles a crawdad and the action is phenominal. They only come in 7 diffrent colors but Im sure Berkely will release more if the bait takes off (they usually do). These are great along side of docks or breaks in weedlines, I have been using these with great success just simply jigging them off the bottom to make sure the chigger craws use there full action potential.

The Con's:
Like every Creature bait out on the market the legs are prone to fall off, its par for the course really.

Is it a good Buy?
Yes.

Cotton Cordell Super Spot Lipless Crankbaits

The Pro's:
Im a firm believer on you get what you pay for but the Cotton Cordell Super Spot Lipless Crankbait is an exception at only $2.89 at Bass pro Shops these Crankbaits pack a punch. The Super Spot Crankbait comes in 19 diffrent colors and patterns and will make some of the more expensive crankbaits run for there money. The action is pretty good and gairly tight although it could be a bit better. The durability is very good in fact Ive slammed one against a rock and it did not do anything to it.

The Con's:
It could be heavier and the action could be a little tighter but other then that it is an exceptional lure for its price range.

Is it a good Buy?
IMHO every Bass fisherman should have a lipless crankbait in there tackle box. This lure is no exception.

If your interested in checking them out check the link below its to Bass Pro Shop, you can buy them there for a measly $2.89 each.

Cotton Cordell Super Spot Lipless Crankbaits

Bass Assasin Turbo Shad

The Pro's:
I'm not a huge fan of plastic shad type baits but there are times when I am out on the boat and nothing is working, so I will tie one on. Surprisingly enough these 4" pieces of plastic from Bass Assasin work very well and they certainly have there place in any bass fisherman's tackle box. The Bass Assasin Turbo Shad relies many on its tail for motion when retrived, like many other shads out on the market, however, unlike the many shads out there the Bass Assasin Turbo Shad has a very nice tail design allowing it to swing more widely then other plastic shads. The Bass Assasin Turbo Shad also comes in a whole slew of different colors to choose from and if you can't find the color that you want then you can choose the walleye version for more variety, both are awfully close in performance.

The Con's:
Does not apply here the Bass Assasin Turbo Shad has everything I can think of in a soft plastic shad.

Is it a good Buy?
Yes

Norman Lures Professional Edge Baby N

The Pro's:
The Norman Lures Professional Edge Baby N crankbait is smaller then your average run of the mill crankbaits. This is useful for several reasons but mainly to attract and catch smaller bass. This time of year (spring) when the smaller bass are schooling it is easier to catch them with a smaller lure that will not disrupt the school as some bigger crankbaits sometimes would. This crankbait is fairly weighted for its size and its body and lip are constructed fairly good. The Norman Lures Professional Edge Baby N comes in 34 different colors and patterns to choose from. It is 2" in length and dives around 3-5' making it an ideal crankbait to fish in shallow waters.

The Con's:
Unfortunately my casting is not up to snuff yet this year and my miss casts are the bane of lures everywhere, needless to say when these lures hit a hard surface there paint chips really easy. In fact one of them lost a good inch worth of paint on the top due to hitting a dock. My second gripe is the price, $6 locally and around $5 online is just not worth it in my eyes when you can buy better crankbaits for nearly the same price.

Is it a good Buy?
Its fun catching the small bass and the assorted pan fish that dare take a bite at this little lure, however I am going to leave it out of my bass fishing tackle box this season

Daiwa Dr. Minnow

The Pro's:
Designed for quick ripping just below the surface, the Daiwa Dr. Minnows have all the right characteristics to tempt a variety fish but all we are concerned about here are bass. I prefer these types of lures this time of year (spring) when largemouth and smallmouth bass are sunning themselves just below the surface. The Daiwa Dr. Minnow produces a wiggling of that of an injured fish. It contains rattles that you can hear from nearly a mile away (well not exactly a mile but the lure is loud!!). The Daiwa Dr. Minnow comes in eight different colors with the typical patterns of perch, shad etc. The Daiwa Dr. Minnow is relatively inexpensive priced at $4.99 a piece.

The Con's:
As with any lure that is designed to swim just below the surface, it sometimes pops up and doesn't perform as well as it should. Sure it will catch bass and a lot of other different type of fish that are out in the open sunning themselves but it is nearly worthless when fishing near weeds and other lake obstacles.

Is it a good Buy?
It has good days and when the conditions are right it is a sure fire hit. Its worth keeping one on hand and using this spring.

Year End Lure Review

Well folks first I would like to thank everyone that visited this site this year and supported this site by going to our advertisers links and leaving comments on each lure that I review. Unfortunately here in the NE U.S.A we had a recent snowfall (about 6 Inches) and we have had extremely cold nights. The lakes are getting colder and the days are growing shorter, Usually this would not stop me from bass fishing and testing out new equipment but I recently hooked my thumb that caused a little nerve damage so I am calling it quits until the spring.

Bass Lures Review has come a long way since I started back on 5/8/2008, I have reviewed a total of 41 lures this year and I still have a couple of reviews that I have yet to finish. Next season I am hoping to do about the same amount. During the winter months I plan on working on the layout of Bass Lures Review so that It is more user friendly and attractive.

Christmas is on it's way and if you know of a fisherman in need of Lures or other gear then I suggest these sites:

and

Here is my Top five lures that caught me fish nearly all season long.

1. Aruku Shad
2. Rapala Husky Jerk
3. Yum Dinger
4. Zoom Lizard
5. Storm Rattlin' Chug Bug

Of course An honorable mention Goes out to The Terminator Hybrid which has caught me a lot of fish this fall. Good luck to all those who have supported this site and those that are brave enough to stick it out until the lakes freeze over.

Bagley Bang-O-Lure

The Pro':
Bagley like Rapala has been around for many years and ther is a good reason why these two companies hold such a high respect with bass fishermen everywhere. Its the quality and consistency that they put into every bass lure that they make. I have had a chance to try one of these Bagley Bang-O-Lures this fall and so I have been overly impressed with the outcome. Sure it could be because its a husky jerk and the fall bass fishing binge is in full swing where I live and these little bass love these lures right now, but I can foresee this lure on my line for next summer's bass season. The Bagley Bang-O-Lure comes in nine different colors and two different sizes a 4" and a 5". The lure is made of balsa wood just like the lures years and years ago. This stick bait like many other stick baits in its class are meant to mimic small fish and let me tell you, the action is extremely good. It is equipped with three sets of treble hooks, the paint job is of top quality and the lure is extremely durable. I have had success fishing this lure in the shallows for schooling bass and over shallow cover. The lure does not dive deep ( I believe Bagleys webpage says 1.5 feet), but don't let that stop you from tying one on.

The Con's:
I have done 45 lure reviews on this webpage and I can find a fault on nearly every lure I test out. Sure I can go on about how there are three treble hooks and it is sometimes a pain to fish these types of lures for catch and release, but I wont ;). I will say that these lures can get to be pretty pricey, in the $9 range but right now there are sales at bass pro shops for year end clearances and theres no better time to buy then right now.

Is it a Good Buy?
Further testing is needed to be done in the spring and summer seasons but right now for the fall, the bass fishing couldn't be better with this lure. Bagley's reputation is of high quality lures so I have a good feeling about this one.

Rebel Buzz n Frog

The Pro's:
What do you get when you mix a topwater frog bait and a buzzbait? You get the Rebel Buzz n Frog. I am always on the hunt for interesting lures and these are no exception. The Rebel Buzz n Frog is a topwater buzz bait that floats when you are not reeling in your line. When you retrieve this lure the two back legs spin as a buzzbaits blade would spin. This lure comes in four different colors and you can find them in the $5-$7 price range. This Lure is made of hard plastic and is two and a half inches long, weighs 1/2oz and comes equipped with a 1/0 dual hook. This bait is semi-weedless and is a really good caster.

The Con's:
I found this lure at my local bait and tackle shop and its package was covered in dust, that should have been my first indication that It may not be a good lure. I have used this several times over this last summer with little to no success. I believe the problem lies in the lack of noise it makes because of its plastic coated tail.

Is it a good buy?
 I wouldn't buy again.

Rapala Skitter Prop Sureset

The Pro's:
The new 2008 Rapala Skitter Prop equipped with Sureset hooks is a new lures to me. I tend to stay away from topwater lures that can not be fished near dense cover, but I took a try on this lure anyway. The Rapala Skitter Prop with sureset hooks is the same lure as the Rapala Skitter Prop with the exception of the hooks. It is made from balsa wood and comes equipped with a stainless steel propeller. When ripped through the water the Skitter Prop churns, spits and dives down slightly into the water. This action attracts the attention of low laying bass and bass that are under cover and is supposed to mimic a wounded baitfish . The Sureset hooks are a new addition to this model and it seems as though a lot of Rapala lures are being equipped with them these days. I haven't noticed a big difference in the hooks just yet.

The Con's:
Since this is a newer Item Rapala only has three colors available at the moment. The original Skitter Prop has six colors.

Is it a good buy?
So far I'm liking what I see but the jury is still out on whether or not I will purchase again.

Yum Baby Dancing Eel

The Pro's:
I love when lure companies can come out with a product so fresh and with an innovative design, Yum did just that with there new Baby Dancing Eel. The Yum Baby Dancing Eel has a hard plastic body and paddle a treble hook and when not retrieved it slowly sinks. I have found that this lure is most effective after the bass have moved from the shallows to a little deeper in the lake that i fish at after there morning topwater feeding. The Yum Baby Dancing eel is 5" in length and its bigger counterpart the Dancing Eel is 6" in length, I prefer to use the smaller of the two but that is just personal preference. I have tried these in lakes and they are deadly. You can find these lures around the $4 price range which is not bad at all.

The Con's:
These only come in four colors.

Is it a good buy?
If you want to try something really different then give these a try.

Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap Rattletrap 1/2oz

The Pro's:

The Bill Lewis Rattletrap has a proven track record that spans over 30 years of Bass fishing. This lure is time tested and proven. The Bill Lewis Lure company creates 6 different sizes of rattletraps from 1/oz to 1oz and in the 1/2oz they have 37 different colors to choose from making this lure versatile and deadly. These lures are strong enough to hold the biggest lunker and flashy enough to catch the most skittish trout, the smaller sizes will also hook you on some pan fish as well. I prefer to use the Firetiger color when I am river fishing for small mouth bass and the chrome blue works for me as my lake lure. The rattletrap signature vibrating sound supposedly mimics and injured fish.

The Con's:

As with any rattletrap in its class and with there ever increasing popularity these lures get more and more expensive by the day. Its hard to find a fault with these lures as they are designed to take on some pretty hard hits.

Is it a good Buy?

As a seasoned bass fisherman I always have a rattletrap with me, these are a good buy.

Uncle Josh's Original Pork Frog

The Pro's:
If you have ever fished a jig then you are more then likely familiar with pork trailers. Uncle Josh's Original Pork Trailer has been around for as long as I can remember and if any lure can seduce a big lunker bass into biting its a jig equipped with one of these frog trailers. These pork trailers come in 17 different colors (the one pictured above is black chartreuse). They measure 2.5" long and 1" wide and come four in a jar. These baits can be found in any tackle store worth there grain of salt and you can buy all colors online if your nearest tackle store doesn't carry your favorite color. These Pork trailers can handle hit after hit without falling apart and the thin double tail is no exception. Jig N' Pig at its finest.

The Con's:
Don't let these sit out in the sun, they dry up very quick and you will have a pork rind on your hook that will be nearly impossible to get off. The newer jars come with a plastic lid that is good but if you find yourself with a jar with a metal lid then be sure to use the pork frog's in one outing. The metal lid tends to rust and it will be very difficult to remove.

Is it a good Buy?
If I plan on jig fishing then I don't leave the house without these.

Rad Lures Micro Chatterbait

The Pro's:
If you have ever seen my review on the Original Rad Lures Chatterbait you know that I am not at all impressed with that lure. The Rad Lures Micro Chatterbait is a 1/8oz variation of its older brother the Chatterbait, but this time around I have to give it some credit. This little lure does not look like it could handle much in fact it look extremely fragile. But don't let its looks deceive you, this lure can take on some serious hits. The micro chatterbait retrieves a little more differently then its bigger counterpart, It does not "sweep" side to side. When retrieved the micro chatterbait's blade vibrates through the water like a big blade on a spinnerbait. This lure is extremely light, however it is an excellent caster. The micro chatterbait comes in six different colors and includes one super tough ElaZtech Mini Split-Tail Trailer. The Rad Lures Micro Chatter bait does well as a lake lure but works really good as a river lure for smallmouth bass.

The Con's:
Does a horrible job going through any kind of lake scum or weeds. Any little piece of algae will mess up its swimming motion.

Is it a good buy?
This is a fun lure and I'm certainly enjoying it this summer. It will not only catch bass but other fish as well.

Uncle Josh's Sizmic Toad

The Pro's:

Uncle Josh bring you the Sizmic Toad, Toad fishing at it's finest. This soft plastic bait beats out competition in terms of durability. The Sizmic Toad can be used as a top water and as a jerk bait. It is designed with a recessed hook cavity to make this plastic lure as weedless as possible without compromising hits. The legs on the Sizmic Toad give this lure amazing action and vibration when retrieved through the water. You can also try to use the Sizmic Toad as a trailer for buzzbaits and spinnerbaits, although I have had a good amount of success just hopping this lure over lilly pads as is. Uncle Josh's Sizmic Toad comes in 35 different colors and two sizes, the smaller size is called the Sizmic Toad Jr. It is 3.25"and the bigger one is 4.25". Sizmic Toads are packaged 6 per pack.

The Con's:

As with any lure it will have its good days and it will have its bad days. While using this lure I find that it is really only good in dense cover and through lilly pads. When the bass are laying deep its hard to get a strike out of them using this lure, other fisherman may have different success though.

Is it a good buy?

It is a good buy for people that like to fish toads. I keep a couple on hand just in case they feel like eating toads.

The Original Culprit Worm

The Pro's:

Culprit has always been a name you can trust. The original Culprit worm has been around for as long as I can remember. Aside from its long lasting name the Original Culprit Worm is a great plastic worm when compared to others in its class. Culprit worms can be fished a ton of different ways with a good amount of success. I prefer to fish these worms Texas rigged or Carolina rigged in the dead of summer. The color shown is RedShad and its one of fifty colors in a size 7.5". There are 5 sizes all together, they range from 4.5" to 12" and while only the 7.5" are made in fifty colors the other sizes have a good amount of colors as well. As you can see in the picture the tail is amazing, It has a good amount of movement and with a little finesse can bring out any bass in cover. Culprit worms are very durable which is something of a rarity when compared to "super salted" plastics on today's market.

The Con's:

This is a tough bait to find any flaws on. If there are any flaws its the color selection. There are so many colors available it can be hard to find out which one works for your lake. Sticking to the common colors helps resolve this problem.

Is it a good Buy?

If your an avid plastic worm fisherman these should be a necessity in your tackle box. This Lure is a good buy.

Revenge Lures Tail Spinner

The Pro's:
The Revenge Tail Spinner is a cool little lure, it breaks the mold when you think of lunker fishing. This bait is very effective in the dead of summer when bass are hanging down low and in the early spring. It also works well when fishing it along weedlines. The spinner on the end of the tail really gives a nice flash through the water and mimics a fish's tail. It comes in 8 different colors and two sizes (3/4 oz and a 1 oz). The hook is a Mustad treble hook and the lure is a very solid construction. These lures are incredible when fished through a school of bass or getting bass from out of heavy cover.

The Con's:
The treble spells trouble. This lure is designed to be fished near the bottom and snags will happen. The cost (around $5 per lure) could be cheaper since you will loose a couple of these on a fishing trip.

Is it a good Buy?
It certainly could not hurt to have a few of these handy when other lures are not biting.

Terminator Hybrid

The Pro's:
The Terminator Hybrid is a mix of a spinnerbait and a buzzbait. The Terminator name was acquired by Rapala in 2007 and was a good bait to use, now that Rapala is involved in the company they are making even better baits. The Terminator Hybrid in the package looks like it wouldn't work, the blade is somewhat of a triangle with a little metal piece that sticks out. The wire is made of titanium making this an expensive lure but it also gives this bass lure more strength and less bending then you would find on other buzz/spinner baits. When used as a buzzbait the Terminator Hybrid shoots water nearly six inches away from it while creating a VERY loud popping sound. When the Terminator Hybrid is used as a spinnerbait its big blade slows it down making it a great choice for summer bass fishing.

The Con's:
Unfortunatly there is a lot to be desired with the design of the Terminator Hybrid. When casting or sinking it in the water the barrel swivel catches around the wire form, it then wobbles ineffectively through the water. Fixing this problem every other cast is tedious and may cause a lot of missed fish. To swim it as a buzzbait it needs to be retrieved fast (similar to that of an uncle bucks bucktail), this can be good on some lakes at various times but its not a very good quality for a buzzbait to have.

Is it a good buy?
I fished one of these the other day, mixing my casts up as a buzzbait/spinnerbait and I had very good luck with it. If they fixed the barrel swivel situation then I would buy another one. If they don't then I would just pass it up.

Yum Money Minnow

The Pro's:

There is a lot of hype about swimbaits these days and Yum decided to jump on the bandwagon and make there own swimbait, the Yum Money Minnow. The Yum Money Minnow is a very light weight salt impregnated plastic lure. It has very nice holographic eyes and has great tail action when retrieved. When hooked up correctly it is a far and accurate caster.

The Con's:

The Yum Money Minnow does not catch you money, In fact it takes your money. At a very steep $8-$10 range you can have five of these. They rip and tear easily, the shank weighted hooks that you need to use cannot be found easily, unless they are purchased online. They are so light weight that if you don't use an additional bullet or tungsten weight you will never cast it anywhere and you will be stuck with a topwater swimbait.

Is it a good buy?

Put your money away, I wish I did. This is a horrible buy and I firmly believe that once the swimbait hype is over with you will find these laying at the bottom of a bargain bin.

Zoom Lizard

The Pro's:
Zoom has done a really good job mimicking a salamander with this soft plastic bait. The Zoom Lizard is 5" but comes in a magnum sized 8". They comes in a variety of different colors, the one shown is pumpkin chartreuse. These plastic bait are bass dynamite for these hot summer months. I have been fishing these on a Texas rig, banging docks, weedlines and shorelines with great success. They are salt impregnated but unlike the Yamamoto lizards, can last a few fish. The tail and the arms have great action and I prefer to have the tail a different color then the rest of the body for a little flash. These Zoom Lizards/Salamanders come 9 in a pack and are very affordable (around $2.50-$3.50).

The Con's:
When I say that they last a few fish, I mean a few fish. They last longer then some other companies but the lures (salamanders in general) design allows for missing limbs and tails after a fierce hit.

Is it a good Buy?
These Zoom Lizards are producing bass for me on a nightly basis this July. I have used them in past years and I will continue to use them. They are a good buy.

Gary Yamamoto Swimming Senko

The Pro's:
The new Gary Yamamoto Swimming Senko combines the falling action of a senko and the swimming action of a swimbait all in one lure. I have been impressed with this lure this summer and I'm confident that it will continue to win big fish for me until the fall. I have found that this is best cast along docks either weightless or on a Texas rig depending on water clarity. The tail gives off a nice thumping motion when retrieved slowly. It is salt infused and pliable like most of Gary Yamamoto's Custom Baits. It comes in 19 different colors, the color shown is Junebug and is the color I have been using

The Con's:
A nasty pickerel will make quick work of this lure. Like most Gary Yamamoto baits they rip and tear easily. The tail quickly comes off after a couple of bass because of its design.

Is it a good Buy?
Yes, This bait is has proven itself even though it has a slight design flaw. It catches bass almost consistently.

Wave Worms Tiki-Shadick

The Pro's:

I caught my brother using this bait on a Carolina rig the other night when we were fishing a small local pond. We had a tough couple of days of not catching a lot of fish and he tied on this crazy looking Carolina rig with a Wave Worms Tiki-Shadick, needless to say he started catching fish, even a catfish. The one he was using that night was colored "Sweet Potato Pie", like the one shown. Now I'm not a real big fan of plastic shad baits but for some reason this one was the "Lure of the day". The Wave Worms Tiki-Shadick, like other Wave Worms, are infused with molopo and salt. I found out that these type of baits are designed to go through the water like an injured fish. The Wave Worms Tiki-Shadick are available in 15 different colors and two sizes. It also has a slit in the bottom for your hook to set it. They come in ten per pack and are relatively inexpensive.

The Con's:

By design the retrieve and movement is short of spectacular.

Is it a good Buy?

I would have never have thought about this plastic bait if my brother hadn't been using it. I will give it a chance for the rest of the summer.

Rapala Skitter Pop

The Pro's:
The Rapala Skitter Pop is slightly different then other top water poppers I have used. when jerked through the water the cupped plastic lip lets out loud pops and the lure dives in the water a little bit (maybe 2inches max). I have launched this lure into a school of crappies and they went nuts over this. I can just imagine when the bass are hitting top water really hard what this lure will do. The one pictured is the color lime frog but I have been using shad color in stained water with good results. Its a very good long caster and comes with two sets of treble hooks as shown in the picture. This lure could be the lure to use this summer on hot July and august nights when the bass are feeding near the top.

The Con's:
The balsa wood body gets damaged easy when miss-cast and hits a hard object as does the plastic lip. Once you break the plastic lip the lure does not work right.

Is It a good Buy?
I am starting to like these lures more and more. The Rapala Skitter Pop offers a change when fishing top water. I prefer to have a Storm Rattlin' Chug Bug and a Rapala Skitter Pop for variety in action, movement and sound.

Gary Yamamoto Lizards (13 series)

The Pro's:
The Yamamoto Lizard is a great bait for spawning bass in the spring. They view it as a predator attacking it's nest and it works well in the summer season as well. I prefer to hook lizards up on a Texas rig in the spring for more accurate casting into nests. In the summer I will give the Carolina rig a go for a little bit around dense cover and in deep water. The Yamamoto lizard series comes in many different colors, even two tone. Yamamoto has these lizards in 4.5" and 7" and just like his senkos there really soft and pliable. The arms and tail give off a decent motion when retrieving.

The Con's:

Yamamoto really needs to jump on the band wagon and should start making hard nose baits. These things tear and rip like theres no tomorrow making your fishing trip an expensive one if its a good fishing day. I hate slow fishing in the summer, therefore I don't Carolina rig all to often. There is faster ways to catch big bass in the summer.

Is it a good Buy?

It's ok. I have used better lizards before in fact if you can find any the FLW walmart lizards are just as good.
