XL-size book, an entertaining read, great photos from the Porsche AG archives, a must have for a Porsche Fan!

This is a documentary which looks at the rivalry between the Aston Martin’s works Nimrod sports car and a private version of the same car, both entered for the 1982 Le Mans 24 hour race.

About the Nimrod: V8 engine, 560 bhp and with a top speed of 220mph. The Nimrod was raced between 1981 and 1984, with the most successful year being 1982 when it came third in the World Sports Car Championship and was the first British Car home in the Le Mans 24 hour race, coming seventh overall.

This movie is a mistery to me: It seems to me that it is the same than the one available on DVD: La Ronde Infernale (also sponsored by Castrol and the VHS shows the same subtitle in red, see the cover!).

The Swiss racing history is interesting… but not only: its present engagement at Le Mans is exciting too!

Although I have seen the brilliant movie about the most famous Swiss race driver, “Jo Siffert – Live Fast Die Young“, I somehow did not pick up who was the primary supporter of “Seppi”: Scuderia Filipinetti !
As a Swiss racing enthusiast I felt obliged to have this book in my collection, and I guess it was more than worth it (although I just started to read it).

Most people don’t know that racing cars from the likes of Porsche and Ferrari were given their looks not by marketing strategists or designers, but by chance. Go Faster is a collection of over one hundred examples of racecar design that documents the carefree anarchy in which they were created. In the book, each colorful racing car is featured next to a blank, white model. Thanks to this juxtaposition, “Go Faster” shows its readers exactly how graphics modulate the look of the vehicle.

I personally liked the idea a lot of producing a book about the liveries only. There is one other book about the Porsche 917 which does a similar thing but not exclusively like “Go Faster”.
The only thing I have really missed in the book is the availability of more infos about the livery designers themselves. It would have been great to have a list at the end of the book providing at least the name of the graphical artist having created a livery for a specific car.

This was actually my first DVD I bought right after my first visit to Le Mans in 2008.

The DVD features 163 minutes showing races before Le Mans (like Sebring), shows the Practice days, the qualifying and of course the race itself: on the track as well as off the track. Some people say that it would not be interesting to see the people off the track (night and day) but if you watch older review movies of Le Mans you recognize this tradition that these movies have to feature such scenes…

And this was my entry ticket to Le Mans 2008: THANKS PINKY!

Together with SirDubi I went to the DTM race event at the Nürburgring in August 2009. That was really great fun (!) and Dubi took some audio recordings with his point-and-shoot camera.

There is also a movie available that feautres the Porsche Carrera Cup, the SEAT Leon Supercopa race with Christina Surer (yes!) and of course the DTM.

Looking forward to the 2010 season!!!

Along with the [...]]]> Pre-ordered in November, shipped this week and finished watching it today: 4 DVDs covering Lord Drayson’s racing adventure starting with the full ALMS 2008 season and finishing at Le Mans in 2009… Absolutely fantastic!

The camera is often live in the pit during the race…

… and is really transporting very well those energetic seconds…

Along with the races, the episodes on the 4 DVDs feature in detail what was happening behind the scenes…

Even Tiff Needell switched from the role as moderator into the driver role for a stint! ;-)

The story of the stunning overall victory of the McLaren F1 GTR in the 24 Hour race of Le Mans 1995 as told by the official “McLaren Cars Video” producers. Designer Gordon Murray explains the features of the revolutionary McLaren F1 road car. After that it is off to Le Mans.
Race coverage is unique and spectacular. Miniature ‘lipstick’ cameras mounted in the winning car provided unique angles never before seen in racing videos at that time (1995).

Click on the title [...]]]> I have just watched this movie: Made in 2008, it primarily features interviews with the drivers of the famous Jaguar XJR-9LM “Silk Cut” which won the overall victory in Le Mans 1988. It is a great combination of original race scenes and the interesting stories told by the race drivers and engineers…
