For those who aren’t familiar, EIN Presswire is a well-known press release distribution service, often relied upon by businesses, authors, and thought leaders to spread their messages to a larger audience. They claim to stand for openness, inclusivity, and fair access, yet my experience tells a very different story.

I submitted a press release about the new book series The Essential Skills of a Masculine Presence, specifically highlighting my own contribution, "The Essential Skills of a Masculine Presence: Psychology - Paradigm" (link to the book on Amazon), which provides real solutions to the ongoing masculinity crisis. This crisis is something that Warren Farrell’s book "The Boy Crisis" brilliantly highlights, but it doesn't offer enough in terms of actionable solutions.

The press release I submitted was intended to inform people about my book and how it fills a significant gap in the conversation about masculinity. Shockingly, not only did EIN Presswire reject my press release, but they went as far as banning my account entirely. Let that sink in: they banned me for trying to offer real solutions to a topic that desperately needs attention. This incident clearly points to a media bias that is not just present, but actively working to silence conversations around masculinity.

It’s about cultivating the mental toughness that today’s men need in order to thrive in a world that seems to undervalue masculinity at every turn.

A Tale of Two Press Release Services: EIN Presswire vs. IssueWire

After submitting my press release to EIN Presswire, I was blindsided by their swift rejection. Their reason for rejecting it was vague at best, but the real insult came when they banned my account completely. I wasn’t trying to spread misinformation or make controversial claims; I was simply promoting a book that aims to help men develop their mental resilience and emotional strength.

When I reached out to EIN Presswire for clarification, they provided no real explanation other than that my content was "inappropriate." Inappropriate? A book offering real-world solutions for the masculinity crisis is inappropriate? This kind of rejection says a lot more about EIN Presswire than it does about my content.

Fortunately, IssueWire, one of EIN’s competitors, had no issue with my press release. They accepted it and distributed it nationwide, which you can read here: IssueWire Press Release.

What this experience tells me is that some platforms are not ready to have a serious conversation about men’s issues. Despite the growing body of evidence that men are struggling in numerous areas—mental health, educational achievement, and even life expectancy—the mainstream media, and in this case, EIN Presswire, seems more interested in silencing these discussions than encouraging them.

The Media’s Role in the Masculinity Crisis

Why is this media bias against discussing masculinity so important? For one, it further alienates men who are already feeling marginalized. When discussions around masculinity are stifled, men are left with fewer outlets to explore their identity, seek help, and develop a healthy sense of self. The masculinity crisis is not going away, and silencing the voices that are trying to offer solutions only makes the problem worse.

EIN Presswire’s actions are a small but telling example of how the media, in general, treats topics related to masculinity. While it’s perfectly acceptable to have discussions about toxic masculinity and the ways in which men need to change, any attempt to promote healthy masculinity, strength, or leadership is often met with resistance. The term "toxic masculinity" is thrown around so loosely that it often feels like society is painting all expressions of masculinity with the same negative brush.

The problem arises when men are not given the tools to cultivate their masculinity in a positive, productive way. A few years ago I wrote about how I setup my own personal email server after worries about Edward Snowden's PRISM leak came out. That was a fun project, and it was kind of fun to run that mail server over the last few years, but it finally got old.

It's a real pain in the ass to deal with blacklists, DCIM keys, spf records, etc. I finally decided I had enough when Google started marking my emails as spam. So I moved everything to ProtonMail.

Simple PowerShell Script To Update SSL Certificate Bindings On All IIS Sites

If you have to deal with updating SSL certificates, you probably feel my pain. Especially if you manage multiple web server farms with multiple Internet Information Service (IIS) sites. I mean it wasn't so bad a few years ago when you could buy a 3 year wildcard certificate and only deal with it every three years. Ever since Apple and Google basically forced everyone to move to 13 month certificates, this has been an administrators nightmare.

Until now that is. I found a really simple PowerShell script that goes through and matches the thumbprint from your old certificate on all bindings in IIS and replaces the bindings with the new certificate! This is particularly useful if you have a wildcard multi-domain certificate that you can use on all sites regardless of hostname!

Here it is!

Just replace the OLDCertificateThumbprint and NEWCertificateThumbprint variables with the thumbprints from your respective SSL certificates!

At my company we added this as a step in an Octopus deployment to push it out to multiple servers at once. Octopus also gives you the ability to import certificates on multiple servers as well, so creating a deployment release for this is pretty straight forward.

Free File Recovery Software For Windows, Linux and Mac

I haven't written a tech related piece in quite some time. I guess that's what happens when you transition from being in the trenches to being an officer in upper management. Well, occasionally shit will hit the proverbial fan and I have to get back in the trenches with the grunts.

This was such an occasion. We had a server that was storing lots of various documents. The systems engineers didn't configure backups for it because there was a scheduled task to RoboCopy those documents to a disaster recover server in another region, as well as a scheduled task to push those files to a cloud storage blob... Who needs backup with all that redundancy right?

WRONG JACK!

Anyway, the drives on the servers were starting to get full, so they decided that anything over 60 days didn't need to be kept, and if those documents were needed, they could be retrieved from cloud storage. So they proceeded to clean up the old files. The problem was that the scheduled task that was supposed to copy these older files somehow stopped working a few months ago, and well... now those files don't exist in any location. HUGE SHIT STORM!

Anyhoo, all is not lost. The good thing about disk drives is that files aren't totally gone until they have been overwritten multiple times. Enter file recovery software! One I have been familiar with for years is the open source TestDisk! Well, turns out the same folks that brought us that gem, also created one called PhotRec that is a little easier to use in my opinion.

From their page:

PhotoRec is file data recovery software designed to recover lost files including video, documents and archives from hard disks, CD-ROMs, and lost pictures (thus the Photo Recovery name) from digital camera memory. PhotoRec ignores the file system and goes after the underlying data, so it will still work even if your media's file system has been severely damaged or reformatted.
PhotoRec is free - this open source multi-platform application is distributed under GNU General Public License (GPLV v2+). PhotoRec is a companion program to TestDisk, an application for recovering lost partitions on a wide variety of file systems and making non-bootable disks bootable again. You can download them from this link.
For more safety, PhotoRec uses read-only access to handle the drive or memory card you are about to recover lost data from. Important: As soon as a picture or file is accidentally deleted, or you discover any missing, do NOT save any more pictures or files to that memory device or hard disk drive; otherwise you may overwrite your lost data. This means that while using PhotoRec, you must not choose to write the recovered files to the same partition they were stored on.

I'm running it now using their command line version because the gui version hangs a lot. It's running on an 8TB volume, and the estimated completion time is over 40 hours... So it's not quick. Still though, if you have no other options for recovery, one can't complain about it.

Another drawback is that it dumps everything to a single recovery folder. It would be awesome if it could restore to the original location, or at least recreate the file structure. At this point though, I'm just happy we can recover the files, or at least some of them.

I had a little bit of a scare today when I went to login to my TikTok account and all of my follower and like numbers were at zero! On top of that, I couldn't see any account activity including likes, followers, comments etc. I thought I had been banned again!

Oh, I didn't tell you I got banned from TikTok? Well, I did... I have a new account though and it's @ComeOnManPod now... I digress.

Anyway, you can imagine my panic. I mean trying to regrow your following after having 30,000 followers taken away isn't fun. So I reached out to a few other creators I know off of the platform and they were all having issues as well. I decided to check Down Detector:

If you are a liberal or a progressive now, you may think you are on the right side. The sad fact is that the government and big tech are on their own side. Everyone else doesn't matter. The moment you think something slightly different and do something they don't like... THIS TYRANY WILL HAPPEN TO YOU.

Greenbone/OpenVAS just hangs when starting or resuming a scan

I'm a very big fan in the open source tools Greenbone Vulnerability Manager and OpenVAS (Open Vulnerability Assessment Scanner). Greenbone is basically the web portal GUI front-end to OpenVAS. Combined, they are excellent tools for discovering vulnerabilities in your network. When it works, it works great! When it doesn't... It's frustrating as hell!

Anyway, the other day I kicked off a quarterly scan of my network, and most of the scans finished, but after a while the server was accidentally rebooted by one of my systems administrators and a number of scans got stuck in a stopped state. When I tried to resume the scan, Greenbone would just spin and nothing would happen! Annoying right?

Well, the issue turns our to be a Redis cache issue. It apparently needs to be flushed when stuff like that happens. To flush that cache run the following from the terminal:

sudo redis-cli -s /var/run/redis/redis.sock FLUSHALL

After running that, I was able to kick my scans off again!

As some of you know, I have been focusing on my new venture a lot lately with my podcast about the Corey Wayne book How To Be a 3% Man. My podcast for those who aren't in the loop is called Come On Man - A 3% Man Podcast. I launched it back in August.

Well since that time I started dating a very ambitious woman who was also interested in starting her own podcast. Much like my podcast, hers is about positivity and self help. Since I have some experience in this field I offered her some help getting it launched and we decided to record some synergistic podcasts together. So her first episode is a conversation with me about Corey Wayne's 3% Man book. Check it out!

She also recorded an episode of Come On Man with me, in fact she is the first female guest I've had on that show! That episode will drop on 1/25/2021!

EKSA E1000 Gaming Headset Review

What's up folks!? I know I haven't written too much lately. I've been swamped with work and my other big project which is my Come On Man - How To Be A 3% Man podcast!

One of the things I've done for that project is purchase a new headset with microphone for better audio recording on my Windows 10 laptop. I decided to go with a red EKSA E1000 USB gaming headset and it works pretty damned good!

Here I am rocking out with it. I have to say that it is super comfortable, and I really dig the rope cabling! One thing too is that it doesn't pick up the sound of the cable rubbing on my shirt if I turn my head which is a problem my old headset with a microphone would do and you could hear that in the podcast.

The noise cancelation seems to be working very well too, which is a huge plus when making podcasts. You really want to block out those white noise background sounds, and with this headset you can do it without having to spend money on sound proofing your recording space!

I went ahead and made a quick audio test below that you can check out to hear how these sound in case you are thinking of getting a pair of these for podcasting as well.

So what do you think? Not bad right? Especially not bad when they cost less than $40!

Anyway, all in all not bad! I highly recommend these if you are a hobby podcaster like me!

I posted a few weeks ago about how I started a new dating and success podcast called "Come On Man - A 3% Man Podcast." If you go back and read that article, I talk about my journey to not just be a better selector of women in my life, but also a better man in general. A part of that is being a part of a very exclusive Facebook men's group called 3% Man.

One of my fellow 3% brothers in that group also has his own podcast called "My Podcast Journey & Random Life Lessons" by Uncle Mike, aka Kwok Chan. Well, he invited me on his show to ask me about my 3% journey and I wanted to share it with you here. You can play it below:

Shortly after recording that episode with Kwok, he stuck around and we recorded an episode of "Come On Man" where we discussed all sorts of things from his 3% journey to football and how his parents immigrated from Communist China. That episode will drop on 11/2!

A New Project I've Started - A Dating and Success Podcast

A couple of months ago I wrote an article about my quest to be a better man. In that post I wrote out my top ten life changing books. My list of books has increased since then, and I've been busy devouring them, as well as listening to others multiple times to really internalize the information.

One of those books is How To Be a 3% Man by Corey Wayne. That book, along with Dating Essentials For Men and Atomic Attraction have inspired me to start a new podcast for other men who are on what I call the 3% Path! That path is not just being better with women, but also learning to be better in life!

Here is the description of the podcast:

A podcast for fellow students of Corey Wayne's book, "How To Be a 3% Man" and for men who just want to be better in general. We take teachings not just from Coach Wayne, but from great teachers like Dr. Robert Glover, Chris Canwell, Napoleon Hill, Bob Proctor, Dave Ramsey and many others who have not only mastered relationships or gaining wealth, but who have harnessed the law of attraction to get everything they want out of life!

The back story to all of this is that after breaking up with a long-term girlfriend last year I had been on the dating circuit for a while, but it clicked with me that what I was doing wasn't working. It also dawned on me that I needed to figure out why my past relationships didn't work out and all of that self reflection brought me to Corey Wayne's YouTube channel and subsequently his book!

Corey Wayne suggests reading his book, or listening to it on audio at least 10-15 times. Well, I've listened to it six times so far, and have read the paperback once. I've also listened to and read Dating Essentials For Men and Atomic Attraction about 6 times as well. I plan to listen to all three of these books well over the 15 time mark, because I get something new out of all three every time I listen or read them!

I also plan to listen to a few other really great books over and over again because as Corey says, repetition is the mother of skill!

Am I a dating expert now? Nope! Am I a dating coach now like Corey? Nope! If you want a dating coach, I suggest going to the man himself on his website understandingrelationships.com and hire him!

I'm no expert, however I have learned quite a bit from these books and having put their knowledge to practice! I am finally starting to see lots of success not just in my dating life, but in my professional life as well! I feel so good about all of it, that I decided to share it with the world!

So, if you are a guy who is struggling with women and relationships, I highly recommend grabbing a copy of Corey Wayne's book then tune into my new podcast every Monday and study along with me!

Wait... Is Microsoft Azure Using VMWare?

My company made the move to Microsoft Azure a couple of years ago. For the most part, we really like it. We've had the occasional hiccup, and their support is trash, but at least their platform is easy to learn and is relatively stable.

Well, an interesting thing happened today. I was in the process of upgrading some Ubuntu servers to 18.04, and during the upgrade process I noticed this:

It appears that their Linux VMs have VMWare Tools installed. Which begs the question, is Azure using VMWare on the back end? One would think they were using Hyper-V.

Anyway, I thought that was interesting and should share it with you guys. If you know more about it, let me know in the comments!
