Balancing Our Irons

Through the past few years, Jules and I have had some amazing adventures. To say the least at times it has felt crazy and everwhelming. With that said, both of us felt like our Father was calling us into a new season of life.

That season of life started last spring when Jules and I started feeling the desire to work more with local Youth and then it became clear when the amazing couple at our church who had been running the Youth program announced that they were stepping down.

Following their announcement was a short, powerful and clear season of prayer by our Elder Board and us where we all agreed that the Fathers call was becoming quite clear.

Within the few weeks, following the decision Jules and I put our newly completed house on the market and moved to Strawberry park, onto the Euzoa Campus and are working on the Youth Team there now!

Lies:

You Guys are too busy.
Your other dreams will have to be sacrificed for this one.
You need to not become too committed time wise to the new Youth Group, protect your marrige, watch your time!

I need to take my own advice more often sometimes. TEST THE FRUIT OF THOSE!

Dreams coming true, who do I think that my Father is? I have his eyes for our new season this morning, they started to come last night but I have them on clearly this morning, and I am dreaming!

Our Father is the biggest dreamer and wow do we have some work to do here!

Much Love to all, and thanks for your support!

More Dreams to come........

July 5-6 we got to take some of our closest friends on a great trip! In 2 days we rafted a whole 5 miles!

A prime example of the motto, Quality not Quantity, because we had a great trip, sharing stories, throwing horse shoes, and doing some aggressive relaxing.

Some of the heaviest rain that I have ever seen, followed by the most intensely colored rainbow that I have ever seen. God is pretty amazing and I love when He shows off!

Thank you Dave, Jane, Lindasy and Lauren for coming along!

Click here for photos from this trip.

Healing

I was fortunate enough to guide the most amazing group of High Schoolers ever last week with Young Life's RMR Backcountry.

Amber's story summed the week up, she had the toughest story that I have ever heard from an Amercan youth. Homelessness, begging, starving, rape, murder, abandonment, and drug abuse sum up her childhood. She is 16 years old and has had the most unbelievable life thus far. The enemy is terrified of her becoming who she is created to be.

Choice: One of the themes for the week was choice, that choice is ours, and we can choose what ever we want in every moment. She chose Joy!

On the 5th day after going through full blown withdrawl from not having the usual chemicals in her system, she shared her story with the group and chose Jesus, she no longer chose to agree with the lies that had ruled her life for so long, and she was healed both physically and spiritually.

AMAZING! The first time that I have ever seen physical healing before! Our God is GOOD and it is our choice as to how much we want to be in that.

Click here for photos from this trip.

GEARING UP

Well, we are about one week away from our 12-16 Father & Son trip. It would be an understatement to say I am excited. The weeks leading up to departure are always interesting. I move through many emotions; anxiety, doubt, fear and finally giddiness. I hope all those watching our progress will begin praying for us. This is about much more than hiking for a few days. It is a part of the process of breaking into the heart; exposing to us the pleasure and purpose of God for our lives.

What an awesome trip. Favor, Blessing, Goodness, and Brotherhood are the words that come up when I think of our trip.

Our friend was honored, and we all I feel had softer hearts than we have had in years past, and were more willing to step into the hard places, and choose to contend for each other.

Die Living

Two days ago, I was fortunate enough to get to guide a trip through Steamboat Powdercats, for a group called Access Anything. For several years we have taken adaptive skiers into the backcountry, but this was an invitational for "le creme de le creme".

This was the first time that we got to take the athletes into our expert terrain, and these guys ripped it up. They skied our expert terrain as well or better than anyone we get to take over there.

Andy, a british mono-skier (who will be competing in the X games next week) had the phrase "DIE LIVING" on the back of his bucket, and he skied like it, and his outlook on life displayed it.

What a great challenge for all of us. In our day to day lives, are we pursuing the FULLEST LIFE? Do we live like we are dieing? If not why?

I truly feel blessed to get to have been part of this and am thankful for every person involved.

“Distraction”

Winter has been great so far; busy but great.

We have had a rash of broken stuff already this year, probably more so far this year than in the past two combined. A great opportunity for me to show patience, kindness, gentleness, and self control toward my coworkers who keep on breaking stuff.

Over the past few years, I have been getting closer to the man worthy of “attack by distraction”, as I have been winning in the more typical “sin” battles.

3 days ago, I am on my way up for a great day of building roads in our expert terrain, one of the coolest aspects of my job. About 20 minutes into my day, and literally just after finishing listening to a podcast, here it comes on channel 4, “Meeker Meeker copy Banister on Channel 4. Tigger (the snowcat) is leaking a lot of coolant.”

And just like that, my day was stolen, killed, destroyed. Instead of hanging out with God while building roads in the expert terrain, I was now going to be spending the rest of my day laying under the cat and taking numerous coolant baths. Although sweet to the taste, not the nicest forecast for a day.

At which point the word “Distraction” came to mind. What was I going to choose to do here? Whine? Mope? Or ask God to join me under Tigger while I took my Glycol shower?

I chose the latter and then later saw that this was for a reason. If I had handled the situation poorly, I would have not gotten to share truth with a coworker who needed to hear some in a rough season of hurt and betrayal in her life.

Bob Meeker the master of this lake was in his glory here teaching the others the way of luring the native cut throats. Our 4th day allowed the leisure of a late start for the day, and shortly after leaving camp, we were greeted by a beautiful 5x5 bull elk.

Seeing Mark on the opposite shore the morning of day 4 sitting in silence for hours just soaking in the beauty of the area was a sight to see. It was not easy getting here, but well worth it.

I don’t think that there were any of us that did not question at some point during that climb whether we had heard God correctly. The climb was extremely challenging. The question that the enemy was posing, “Did you make the right call, is this what God wanted, did you hear correctly?”, came to mind. So classic.

But just like so many times in life, after the super challenging time, through obedience we were rewarded with an amazing camp, and a beautiful place to spend our evening.

Last week my wife Jules and I had the privilege of guiding a group of High Schoolers from Cherry Creek. It was a powerful week and one that seems like it will have lasting effects on the participants. Jules and I have been learning a ton about the power of agreements that we make in our own lives and how untrue things seem truer and truer the more time we give them in our own heads.

This was our primary focus with our friends from Cherry Creek, to look at the lies in our lives that we were empowering by agreeing with. Truth was spoken, some lives were changed, and lives are continuing to change. I am proud of our new friends, for their courage, honesty and willingness to go to those hard places boldly.

I am going back on the trail tomorrow with Angie Bogenrief for a week, and the the following week with the first APG trip of the summer. I am super excited about both trips and expectant in the Fathers plans for these trips.
