This probably wont’ be any good to most of my usual readers, but it’s a good tip for when sorting out issue’s.

When you change the IP of a HP 3992 MFP, you will need to install an app to recognise the printer has changed IP address for the HP scanning software to work.

You can download it from the HP support page for the printer, under the utilities section – HP LaserJet Fix Scan Utility

Install, then it will recognise the printer and do the changes to allow the scanning utility to work again.

Hope this helps anyone looking for a fix.

I’m a rubish techonolgy reporter, so I won’t blab on for too long talking about things you don’t need to hear.

Recently, I picked up a new Sony Ericsson X10 – running Android. I made a switch from my very reliable and loved Blackberry Bold (9000) running OS 5.0. I was pretty nervous about doing it seeing as I’ve had a fear of touchscreen smartphones since I owned my first generation iPhone. BUT, So far, so good – I’m really happy with it.

Right, down to business.

Phone – Looks pretty, that’s what the girls like. It’s white too. It’s what the girls like.

Camera – Good, 8MP, does the job. smart. with video.

Battery – ususal usage: a day. You wanna be charging it everynight.

O/S – Running android 1.6 – I know some of you will be shouting about your 2.1 and 2.2. But actually, it’s very stable and never have any issue’s. Yes, it lack some of the cool features, but what the hell. IT WORKS. You’ve still all the usual droidy stuff, like apps and all that lot.

Signal – Seeing as most (new smartphone) owners seem to be having problems with their network today, I for one, am not! Good signal strength in most locations and 3G seems to be fast. I’m on orange if your wondering.

Extra features – TimeScape. A pointless app that I never use. It’s for browsing twitter and facebook, blablabla. Really, I just use the facebook application and seesmic combined. Sorted.

All round, I’m really happy my switch, seeing as I didn’t pay a penny for the phone with a trade in.

For the last couple of months, I’ve been using Windows Server 2008 R2 as my main desktop operating system. One or two have questioned me to why I’ve done this and to why I’m not running Windows 7.

First of all, I’d like to point out that I have used Windows 7, and it’s my primary OS on my Laptop. I do still find serveral issue’s with the OS, including slow downs and memory management issue’s. But overall – still, better than Vista.

So why use Server 2k8?

The bare basics of an operating system – no junk and bloated and useless software pre-installed.

Better memory management and organisation of background services.

If you don’t believe me – have a look at some of the articles below showing the performance of Server 2008 to other Microsoft operating systems.

Windows “Workstation” 2008 – Vista Done Right?

Massive benchmark comparison between Windows XP, Vista and 2008 Server, 32- and 64-bit

From those to articles, you can see there is a performance increase if your using vista, for certain – even an upgrade to 7 is worthwhile if your still running Vista.

I find personally that 2K8 is much more responsive and quicker than Windows 7 and seems in general a lighter operating system. It works well for me, so give it a shot.

You can download it free and try it for 180 days from Microsoft – http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/try-it.aspx
