Zaycon has opened their ground beef event to many parts of the country. To see if your area is included, go HERE login and click on “events”.

The price is $2.89 /lb for 93 %. I called my local Sam’s Club ( 1-10 store) to compare prices. They only carry 80% and 90%. The 90% was $3.18 a pound! The Zaycon price is soooo much better! I am pretty excited about this one!

There are many locations in the Houston area to choose from!

Here is some info on the ground beef:

• Fresh, Premium, Fine Grind 93/7 Super* Lean Ground Beef

• Comes in a 40-lb case with four 10-lb chubs per case (approximate weight–see note below)

• No chemicals, additives or water added to meat during processing

• Processed at a USDA-inspected, state-of-the-art plant employing strict operating protocols (including HACCP) and the highest in food-safety standards

Crock Pot Brownies In Jars

Here is how I did it:

1 box of brownie mix (and ingredients listed on box to make them) for a 8"x8" pan of brownies
non-stick cooking spray
(4) 8 ounce heat proof jars with straight sides (I used my Ball canning jars)

Mix the brownie mix according to package directions. Spray the inside of each canning jar with the non-stick cooking spray. Evenly divide the brownie batter between all four jars.

Place the jars inside a 5 - 6 quart crock pot. Make sure that none of the jars are touching each other or the sides of the crock pot. This will help them to cook evenly.

Put the lid on top of the crock pot and turn the crock pot to high. Cook for 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 hours. Mine were ready at exactly 2 hours and 55 minutes. You are looking for the brownies to start to pull away from the sides of the jar. The center will still be a little gooey and a wooden skewer or toothpick will NOT come out clean at this point. That's okay though. When you remove the lid and turn the heat off there will be some residual heat that will continue to cook the brownies. Trust me on this one, you don't want overcooked or burnt brownies.

When the jars have cooled enough to handle them remove them from the crock pot and place them on a folded dish towel or cookie sheet to finish cooling. Make sure they are not in a drafty area and no fans or air conditioning are blowing on them. That could cause the jars to break... EEEEK! We don't want that to happen.

When the jars were completely cool enough to handle and the brownies were still a little warm, we served ours up as brownie sundaes.

I let the two extra ones (don't make that face, there WERE two extra ones left) completely cool and then placed the lid and rim on the jar and stored them on the counter. I sent one with my husband to work today and I'm saving one for myself to make another sundae out of.

Crock Pot Cheesecake In A Jar

Yields: 6 servings

For the crust:

cup of graham cracker crumbs

⅓

cup of sugar

Tablespoons of melted butter

For the filling:

(2) 8 ounce packages of cream cheese, at room temperature

(1) 14 ounce can of sweetened condensed milk

(2) eggs, at room temperature

1½

teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Zest of 1 lemon

In a small mixing bowl add the graham cracker crumbs, sugar and melted butter. Stir to incorporate. Evenly distribute the mixture into the 6 canning jars. Using the back of a teaspoon press the mixture firmly onto the sides of the jar. You want to make sure the bottom is covered and packed too.
At this time heat 2 – 4 cups of water in your microwave. Also, go ahead and turn on your crock pot (I used my 6 quart oval) to high. This is going to preheat it while you’re making the filling.
In a large bowl add the cream cheese and using mixer, mix until fluffy. Slowly add in the can of sweetened condensed milk. Once that’s incorporated add one egg at a time. Once the eggs are mixed in thoroughly add the vanilla extract and lemon zest. Mix until well incorporated.
This is a VERY important step in the process. Fill the jars with EQUAL amounts of cheesecake filling. This is so important because you want all the cheesecakes to cook evenly. If you fill one a little more than the others, use a teaspoon to dip out of one jar and add to another until they are filled as equal as possible. Carefully pour the hot water into the preheated crock pot. Place the jars in the crock pot making sure that none are touching the edges of the crockery or each other. You’re looking for the water to come up ½ – ¾ of the way up on the jars.
Cover crock pot with lid and cook on high for 1 – 2 hours. Mine were done at exactly 1 hour and 10 minutes. You’re gong to look for the filling to firm up and not be jiggly in the center. These cooked so quickly because they were cooking in individual, smaller containers.
At this point take the lid off (pick straight up, don’t tilt it sideways… you don’t want any condensation from lid dropping onto the top of the cheesecakes) and turn the crock pot off. You don’t want to try to remove the jars until they cool down some (No one wants to get burned and blistered…. not even for cheesecake!).
Once the jars have cooled enough to remove, place them on a dish towel to continue cooling. As they cool you will see the filling pull away from the sides of the jars. When they completely cool down (and ONLY when completely cooled) place the lid and rims on the jars and place in the fridge for at least 4 hours. This step gives the flavors a chance to come through…. don’t skip it, trust me! Oh yeah, if you happen to have any leftover, make sure you keep those refrigerated until you’re ready to eat them.
Serve as is, with berries or even drizzled with caramel.

Guest post from: Joe Castro I wouldn’t exactly call myself a foodie, but I do love to eat. I love fine restaurants, but I also like the not-so-fine restaurants (I don’t discriminate). I recently graduated from The University of Georgia, and there are so many wonderful, delicious, affordable restaurants in Athens. While I was there, I frequented many (maybe all) the restaurants in the downtown scene, my favorite of which was Last Resort Grill. It’s a funky, upscale creative southern cuisine (and I literally couldn’t describe it in any fewer words). The servers are temperamental townies, but the food can’t be beat. I actually prefer lunch and brunch at Last Resort (fried green tomato sandwich or French toast). My biggest regret (or at least biggest food regret) was that I didn’t visit 5 and 10 before leaving Athens. Everytime I see Hugh Acheson pop up on a Top Chef show on my direcTV, I want to kick myself. Lucky for me, I’ve got tickets to a couple football games this season, which gives me a few more chances to spend a week’s worth of pay on a meal good enough to be my last. I can’t wait.

With good reason, Giada at Home is one of Food networks most successful TV shows. Nominated for two daytime Emmy awards, Giada at Home has it all, good Italian cooking and baking, party planning tips and a very likable host. She has one of those seemingly gentle personalities and while I'd probably find it annoying in person, on screen her over emphasis of emotion is essential to a culinary show. They usually have her work out of a kitchen in a rented Malibu home or out on the beaches Malibu, which really gives the show a laid back California feel.
One thing I especially enjoy is the added element of having to plan for a large number of guests. In fact, the show has helped in planning my own parties as I have a better idea of timing things baking and cooking Giada's recipes. Most cooking shows make a small amount and tell you to just double the ingredients the more you make; however, they rarely give you a good indication of cook or bake time for your additional portions. I've had to undergo many a trial and error to adjust the heat or time required to have a portion multiplied dish come out as well as it would had I made it with the exact portion shown on TV. This is why I will continue to check out this show via DIRECT.TV.

That may be a little hard, but I think that I do a decent job of it. A personal favorite of mine though is TV and movie soundtracks. I was looking up more info on Zooey Deschanel's music for the new Winnie the Pooh movie to write a blog post about it, when I came across www.domainNames.com. DIY green dŽcor for our kids' playroom

Having kids has been so great. Sure there are stressful times, but I've had the best times of my life with them, hands down. College was nothing compared to this. Right now we're planning on redecorating the kids' playroom and we're going to have all kinds of fun doing that.
I went online to find some really cool ideas about how we could make our own decorations for the room. While I was online I found some information on www.shopelectricityratestexas.com about energy savings plans and I read through it. After that ! I decided to order one of them for our home energy plan to help make sure we're more efficient with our electricity.
I found some old frames up in the attic, so I'm getting the kids to paint some artwork to put in those frames and I'm going to hang them all along a wall in there. I think that we may also paint a mural on the wall rather than buy more decorations. There will be less waste that way. Plus, the kids can get really creative with it!

Enchilada Stuffed Pasta Shells

Ingredients:
1 lb. hamburger
1/2 cup diced onion
3 teaspoons homemade taco seasoning or 1 package taco seasoning
1 3/4 cups cooked black beans or 1 can black beans
1 can diced tomatoes, do not drain
12 oz. package jumbo shells
2 cups shredded cheese
1 1/2 cups tomato sauce
1/2 cup medium salsa
1 1/2 cups shredded cheese
Directions:
Put a large pot of water on to boil. Once it begins boiling add shells and cook according to the package directions.
While the water is heating, cook hamburger and onion over a medium flame until hamburger is browned.
Add taco seasoning, beans, and diced tomatoes. Be sure to add the juice from the diced tomatoes too. Simmer over low heat for for 5 minutes.Remove from heat aside and let cool while the shells cook. Once the meat mixture is close to room temperature, add 2 cups of cheese and mix well.
In a small bowl, combine tomato sauce and salsa. Spoon 1/2 cup of tomato sauce mixture into each 13 x 9 baking dish.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
After the shells have been drained, spoon meat mixture into each shell and place it in a baking dish.
After all the shells have been filled. Spoon 1/2 cup of the tomato sauce mixture over the shells in each baking dish. Sprinkle 3/4 cup cheese over the stuffed shells in each baking dish.Cover one baking dish with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 5 minutes.
