<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Point Holmes in Comox, British Columbia is a beautiful destination for dramatic landscape photography, and many compositions of boulders, water, and clouds are possible at this beach. The rising tide creates new arrangements of boulders and water to photograph from countless different angles. Interesting cloud formations can appear over the Salish Sea. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" width="1000" height="667" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.daveingram.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/point-holmes-2.jpg?resize=1000%2C667&#038;ssl=1" alt="Rising tide isolates larger rocks at Point Holmes." class="wp-image-332"/><figcaption>Point Holmes #2</figcaption></figure>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1000" height="667" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.daveingram.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/point-holmes-4.jpg?resize=1000%2C667&#038;ssl=1" alt="A gravel bar is separated from the beach as the tide rises at Point Holmes, BC." class="wp-image-330"/><figcaption>Point Holmes #4</figcaption></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Working the Boulders</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On the east side of Vancouver Island, views across the Salish Sea or along the coast are possible. At Point Holmes beach, Denman and Hornby Island are visible in the distance. Uniform rocks on the beach submerged as the water rose and new patterns and combinations of water and stone appeared. Gravel bars separated from the shore, forming isolated islands. Cloud formations add variety to the possible compositions.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1000" height="667" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.daveingram.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/point-holmes-5.jpg?resize=1000%2C667&#038;ssl=1" alt="A large rock surrounded by water at Point Holmes." class="wp-image-328"/><figcaption>Point Holmes #5</figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Large boulders are part of the foreshore at Point Holmes and they become more prominent, separated from the smaller rocks of the beach on an incoming tide. Finding more compositions became easier and the sky took on the colours of salmon, blue, and gray. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1000" height="688" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.daveingram.ca/wp-content/uploads/sleeping-like-an-angel.jpg?resize=1000%2C688&#038;ssl=1" alt="Sleeping Like an Angel - Subway Doodle" class="wp-image-180"/><figcaption>Sleeping Like an Angel, <a href="https://www.subwaydoodle.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Subway Doodle (opens in a new tab)">Subway Doodle</a></figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Bushwick Collective in Brooklyn, New York is a fascinating place to visit. Street art covers the buildings and it is hard to truly appreciate the scope of the graffiti because it is everywhere! Bushwick is a true working-class neighbourhood and as a result its industrial heritage provides walls that are canvases for public art.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1000" height="667" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.daveingram.ca/wp-content/uploads/troutman-street.jpg?resize=1000%2C667&#038;ssl=1" alt="Troutman Street" class="wp-image-182"/><figcaption>Troutman Street at Nicholas Avenue</figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The heart of the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Bushwick Collective (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/05/nyregion/a-son-of-bushwick-turns-the-neighborhood-into-a-gallery-for-street-art.html" target="_blank">Bushwick Collective</a> is the intersection of Troutman Street and Nicholas Avenue. The Collective is the work of Joseph Ficalora and is both a tribute to his father who was murdered in 1991 and his mother who passed away in 2011. It was Ficalora&#8217;s goal to <a href="https://actipedia.org/project/bushwick-collective-transforms-neighborhood" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="revitalize Bushwick (opens in a new tab)">revitalize Bushwick</a> and in 2012 he invited a number of well recognized graffiti artists to paint murals on buildings in the neighbourhood. The murals have transformed the once grim, industrial area into a huge open-air gallery that stretches for many blocks. The photography opportunities are countless&#8230;</p>
