Bangladesh has been aptly described as a new state in an ancient land. Much has been written about the past glory of Bangladesh, notably in old records like the evidence of Pliny and Periplus of the Erythrean Sea (first century AD). It was drawn in Ptolemy's map. These indicate that from the earliest times Bangladesh was known to the West, particularly for its Muslin, the finest fabric the world has ever produced. Travellers and scholars who were attracted by the charms and fame of Bangladesh since time immemorial had showered effusive epithets on its bounties and wealth, affluence and prosperity, craftsmanship and cultural advancement.

They include the Chinese travellers Fa-hien (fourth century AD), Hue-an-tsung (seventh century), Ma-hoen and Fei-shin (fifteenth century), Ibne Batuta (fourteenth century) from Africa, Nicola Kanti (fifteenth century) and Ceasar the Frederik (sixteenth century) from Venice, Verthema, an Italian in the sixteenth century, Barbosa and Sebastin Manric (sixteenth century) from Portugal, Travernier and Bernier from France (seventeenth century) and Queen Elizabeth-the First's ambassador Ralf Fish.

To Ibne Batuta, Bangladesh was a 'hell full of bounties and wealthiest and cheapest land of the world.' So great were the attractions of Bangladesh that to quote Bernier 'it has a hundred gates open for entrance but not one for departure.' Ladies of Imperial Rome were literally crazy for Bangladesh's Muslin and luxury items, which according to Pliny, resulted in serious drain of gold of the Empire. Because of its location, Bangladesh served as a flourishing entry port and intermediary in trade and commerce between South Asia and the Far East. The region also played a seminal role in disseminating its belief art and architecture in the wider world of Asia. Ancient Bangladesh took great pride as a coveted seat of learning and education and scholars from far away countries regularly flocked to its numerous universities and monasteries.

Joypurhat was an area under the Pala Empire & Sena dynasty from a long period of time. Till 16th and 17th centuries, there were no clear information about Joypurhat's history. Previously the local name for Joypurhat was 'Baghabarihat. Later it was called 'Gopendraganjahat in many archives. Once 'Lalbazar Thana' was established by containing the present Joypurhat Sadar Upazila and Panchbibi Upazila. The thana (upazila/sub-district) was located at east side of Small Jamuna River named 'Puranapoil. Then Puranapoil Union was known as 'Karimanagar. A post office was established in Lalbazar Thana. The sub-registry office was established in 'Nawabganj. There were many 'NeelKuthi established in this area. At that era, Lalbazar Thana was a town. Back then it was the only work place for the ordinary people of that area. From Lalbazar Thana, Small Jamuna River gorge, the whole travel, commerce and trade were maintained. At that period Lalbazar Thana, Khetlal Upazila & Badalgachhi Upazila were under Dinajpur District. As Dinajpur District, Rangpur District & Rajshahi District were very large, in 1821, a new district was formed from the three districts and named Bogra District. At that time, Bogra District occupied by Adamdighi, Bogra Sadar, Sherpur from Rajshahi District; two upazila from Rangpur District and Khetlal Upazila, Badalgachhi Upazila, Lalbazar Thana from Dinajpur. Later, on December 16, 1868, Lalbazar Police Thana was moved in 'Khasbaguri'. The local name of Khasbabri was Panchbibi. In 1884, from Kolkata District to Jalpaiguri District in British Raj the rail way line established. Among this rail way line 8 railway station was built in the present Joypurhat District. In that time 'Baghabari' was the local name of Joypurhat and Baghabari railway station was the name of Joypurhat railway station.

People make different types of rice cakes so tasty and authentic

Lifestyle in Bangladeshi Villages

People live in the beautiful houses here made of clay. Roofs of them are made of burned clay called “tali” which protects them very well from the rainwater.

They are used for plowing lands, getting fresh milk, and in cow carts which are used to transport goods, especially rice, wheat, potato, and other things produced on the fields to bring home.

Bangladesh is bordered by the Indian states of West Bengal to the west and north, Assam to the north, Meghalaya to the north and northeast, and Tripura and Mizoram to the east. To the southeast, it shares a boundary with Myanmar (Burma). The southern part of Bangladesh opens into the Bay of Bengal.

There are three main categories of soils in Bangladesh: the old alluvial soils, the recent alluvial soils, and the hill soils, which have a base of sandstone and shale. The fertile recent alluvial soils, found mainly in flooded areas, are usually clays and loams, variously pale brown, sandy, chalky, and mica-laden. They are deficient in phosphoric acid, nitrogen, and humus but not in potash and lime. The old alluvial soils in the jungles of the Barind and Madhupur regions are dark iron-rich brown or reddish clays and loams. They are sticky during the rainy season and hard during the dry periods. The hill soils are generally permeable and can support dense forest growth.

Bangladesh in general possesses a luxuriant vegetation, with villages appearing to be buried in groves of mango, jackfruit, bamboo, betel nut, coconut, and date palm. However, only a small portion of the country’s land surface is covered with forests.
