I have been using GMX mail service since six months and quite satisfied with it. I no longer need to log onto yahoo, gmail, hotmail separately. I can get it all on GMX ! Everybody confuse gmx with gmail. When someone asks me about id, I said

"No, its GMX"
"What on earth is GMX?!" they replied in a confuse manner.

The police requested the government to take steps to shut 84 porn sites featuring uncertified erotic photographs & video clips of Bangladeshi men & women, a senior police officer said.
‘We have requested the government to shut the net sites as they jeopardise the social life of plenty of Bangladeshi young boys & girls as their nude photographs & X-rated video clips were put on the sites without permission,’ assistant inspector general of police Mohammad Nazrul Islam told New Age, a daily Bangladeshi English newspaper.
The police made the request after two years of inquiry which revealed that a section of people from outside the country is uploading such photographs & video clips captured secretly.
‘There are several thousand such photographs & video clips of Bangladeshi men & women on such sites, which also publish commercial for prostitution,’ the police officer said, quoting a document submitted to the home secretary.
The investigators also found that photographs of Bangladeshi girls & women, including models & other celebrities, had been modified & edited to give them an erotic look, said the police officer.
Jogging such web-sites is illegal, according to Bangladeshi laws, & against the values of society, he said, adding the system to take legal action against such web hosts is difficult & time-consuming as they are run from outside the country.
‘We have requested the home ministry to take measures through Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Authority to shut the sites,’ said Nazrul.
He said a female university student had recently tried to commit suicide after her nude video clips had been uploaded on one pornographic site.
Plenty of female students abandoned their studentship as their nude photographs were published on the porn sites, he said.

Just noticed Google Buzz on my gmail page... I was amazed and was wondering what that could be. I clicked on the text GOOGLE BUZZ on the menu situated on the left.

"Huh? Another twitter like social networking tools?!" I said to myself...

Using GMX Mail On Thunderbird

Previously on my blog I talked about GMX Mail service, the only web mail service where you can access other emails like yahoo, hotmail etc beside the gmx.

There is a good news for GMX users. Now you can access gmx mail from Thunderbird. Configuring GMX on Thunderbird is pretty simple.

If you don't have Thunderbird than you can download it here.

Open Thunderbird Mail Client

1. Go to Tools (located at the menu bar above) then click Account Settings

2. On the Account Options, select Add Mail Account

3. Type name, address and password and click Continue

4. After the above step, Thunderbird will automatically fetch the settings according to domain of the mail id, as for example, if the id is bdtechie@gmx.com then Thunderbird will apply gmx mail server settings. Click Create Account at the end

5. If you want, you can change the incoming server settings from IMAP to POP.

Are there any difference between IMAP and POP?

POP settings allows the mail client to download the emails onto your PC before being presented to you. IMAP settings dosen't download the emails, it shows the email by fetching it from the server or you can say it works like a web mail. You can read more about IMAP and POP here:

Review Of Link3 Fiber To Home Broadband In Bangladesh

Link3 started their broadband service many years ago. All the previous years they were providing connection to corporate users only. Now they are giving internet connection to home users. They are the first company in Bangladesh to provide FIBER OPTIC to home. All the other ISP claims that they provide fiber optic connectivity but in fact they provide connection with CAT 5 cable !

My previous connection was 256 kbps BDCOM connection.

Do remember 256 kbps means 256 kilo bits per second. To convert them to kilobytes, divide the number by 8. Like, 256/8 will gives 25 kilo bytes per second.

I discarded their line because I was getting 20 - 23 kilobytes per second instead of 25 kilobytes. Sometimes the download speed falls below 20 kilobyte and the fluctuation was huge...

Now, I am using Link3 fiber optic broadband. I got the connection on 28th Jan 2010. I live in Dhanmondi so I am lucky that I got their connection because currently they are providing connection to users living in Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara, Niketon, Motijheel, Uttara, Dhanmondi and all adjacent area. I am satisfied with their connection so far and yes they are the true fiber optic broadband provider. Fiber optic cable doesn't mount directly to LAN card. A converter is used to convert the fiber optic to cat 5 which is then attached to the LAN card. Link3 placed two devices on my home; one is fiber optic joint box and another device is ONU device. I don't know what's the function of fiber optic joint box (you can google it out) but ONU devices is like a converter, they convert the fiber optic cable to cat-5 cable which then mounts to LAN card.

Night doubler packages are their main attraction. I am using 192/384 kbps package. Which means during the day I will get 192 kbps (24 kilobyte) and at night I will get 384 kbps (48 kilobyte) ! There are also other package available and you can choose any of them depending on your demand. Since I am a light internet user (not a power internet user) I chose the 192/384 options.

Bandwidth test demonstration:

I tested link3's bandwidth by speedtest during the day time (7am to 8pm) and at night (8pm to 7am). I obtained the following results:

Daytime 0.19Mb/s (megabits per second) = 190kbps (kilobits per second) = 23.75 KB/s (kilobytes per second)

Nighttime 0.37Mb/s (megabits per second) = 370kbps (kilobits per second) = 46.25 KB/s (kilobytes per second)

Monitoring by network meter gadget:

I repeat the test several times but shows the same result. The bandwidth doesn't fluctuate at all since the connection is through fiber optic !

The ping time ms shown on the images above explains that link3 is excellent for gaming. If you are looking for alternative to expensive wimax in Bangladesh like Qubee wimax or Banglalion wimax then link3 would be the best choice.

Full Version Of Google Chrome With Extenstion Features Finally Released

After a long long await, the full version of google chrome released. We have seen in the beta version that they have included the extension options like the addons for firefox but the beta version was not stable and crashed very often. However the full version is stable and performance is quite better. I haven't experienced any crash while browsing or installing the extensions which were common in the beta version. I am very satisfied with the extensions, unlike firefox where we have to restart the browser after we download the extension and this restart hampers/delays our work. Moreover the extenstions are lightweight, small in size and takes less time to download and install.

The current version is 4.0.249.78 (36714)

In short I can say that they have the following advanteges over chrome:

Extensions are small in size
Takes less time to download and install
No need to restart chrome after installing the extension
Even after uninstalling or disabling the extension, you don't need to restart your browser
Faster browing startup
Page loads faster

Based on my experience, I found the above advantages. The user experience may vary from person to person!

Make Your Firefox Highly Optimized

While I was just surfing some local (non english) blog techtunes.com.bd, I got to know about a tool FIREFOX ULTIMATE OPTIMIZER.
The review on that site said that this particular tool makes the firefox to reduce it's memory consumption by about 99%. I was shocked by that.

I use Google chrome so I had to download firefox and the optimizer tools. Then, I compared the memory consumption by firefox with and without the optimizer tools. Below is the result I got:

From the image we can see that memory consumed by firefox without the optimizer is 54,668K and with optimizer is only 632K! The decrease is by 54036K (98%) !!! The software really works but I absolutely have no idea how it does.

Pdf is the most common document format which is widely used nowadays. Sometimes I fall in a situation when the computer does not have any adobe acrobat or other pdf viewer installed especially at cyber cafes or at university computer lab. In such situation it's not possible to download and install the adobe reader in a very short time.

In a situation like this I depend on online pdf viewer like samurajdata.se or pdfescape. Online pdf viewers like these saves you a lot of hassle and you can view the pdf instantly. Both Samurajdata and Pdfescape differ from each other in a variety of way.
