Hello!
May I introduce myself, my name is Tessa and I am the daughter of Chris and Diane Lynn who make the wonderful driftwood items for Beachcombers Crafts (you can find out more about our family here). I live in Reading with my Boyfriend and am quite eager to share with you our garden...

My boyfriend and I moved into a new place in June and here's what the garden looked like:

You will notice at the back the small railway sleepers that act as a fence. They really are a funky division between the two gardens, with different heights - making it look quite castle like! Well it was quite overgrown, after some digging and quite a bit of top soil to fill in the gaps, the garden started to take shape - we even got the pond sorted, which is now home to 6 goldfish!

The beds on the outskirts of the garden are also made out of this unique concrete structure, you will see in the image below that I have begun to create a 'woodery' (like a rockery but with wood!) to break up the concrete effect - the more weathered the wood the better! I really like the different textures against one another!

Another thing I am quite keen to share with you is a use for a spare wine rack that I had:


Wine rack used to hold some growing Roman Chamomile				and Parsley

You will see that I am growing a number of pots of Roman Chamomile, which I will allow to fill the pots and then plant into a prepared bit of ground, near our 'lovers seat' to create a fragrant Chamomile Lawn!

Speaking of fragrant lawns, we had a piece of ground in front of the pond, which had no slabs and felt that we needed some green to break up the slabs, so I spent a good few hours preparing the soil, taking out any large stones and concrete and planted two types of creeping Thyme - to create a wonderful fragrant Thyme Lawn - well eventually I am sure!

The garden inspires me in so many ways, being a student for four years and working another year here in Reading, I have not been too lucky with garden space. Now, I am about to embark on another journey at the University (doing a PhD) I have been blessed with a beautiful garden. Just lately I have taken to making jewellery outside, I feel the creative juices flowing a lot more when I am out there! Crabs found whilst beachcombing

The family have been busy improving their online presence - creating a new website and taking a look at a fresh new approach to social media.

Even though the website is now live, we are still constantly improving it, with more detailed descriptions, additional photographs and new products.

Whilst looking at our online presence we have been reviewing this blog - therefore we have a new design and new ideas for posts - watch this space!

Hunstanton Craft Fair

We have booked a table at the craft fair in Hunstanton on May 28th 2011, we went this morning to have a look and there are some great crafter's around. If you around on the day come in and take a look, they are held in the Town Hall.

Its so great to see the English coastline has not lost its attraction, its getting real busy on the roads, lots of people enjoying the good weather. We have stayed around the holiday home, as the roads get up my nose when busy.

Well here we at home getting ready to go back to our Beach hide away on the North Norfolk Coast, we have lunched the website today, just a few tweaks that need to happen. The history of Home: Market Deeping :

The area is also rich in archaeological sites covering all periods from Neolithic to Bronze, Iron, Roman, Saxon and Norman. At one time the land adjacent to the Deepings was a huge swamp with occasional spots of high forested ground inhabited by Celtic peoples who navigated around the swamp in small skin covered coracles and lived from fishing and hunting.

We going to Snettisham Beach today, there is a nice area right where the wash finishes, right near the RSPB. We found some great driftwood here.

Top things to do in Spring
On the big spring high tides, see tens of thousands of wading birds using Snettisham as a staging post for their long migration flights to the Arctic
Enjoy early spring flowers and fragrant flowering hawthorn as you walk down the path to the hides
Sit in the hides, watch, listen, enjoy as hundreds of nesting gulls and terns set up nests on the lagoon islands

Well we all a little warn out from all the beach-combing so staying around Heacham today. Weather still very hot, windy a little. Just thought you have not met Buster our little boy, so here is a picture of him. He is also very good a finding Driftwood:

We stopping around Heacham today, weather is blistering 10:26 and already in its 20's. Heacham, Todays little bit of history:
There is evidence of settlement in the Heacham area, for around the last 5,000 years, with numerous Neolithic and latter Bronze Age finds throughout the parish. This is presumably due to the fact the local geology consists of primarily cretaceous sands and underlying chalk meaning that there is very little surface water for miles in any direction. This can also be seen along the banks of the Caudle Carr located just outside Dersingham where numerous archaeological sites have been found. Running water in conjunction with the fertile surrounding lands, made it an ideal settling location for early man. Evidence of habitation continues through the Iron age into the Romano-British[3] era. But the beginnings of the present village most probably did not occur until around the 5th century with the Anglo-Saxon invasion and the beginnings of present-day East Anglia.

Wow, we went on our daily walk to collect driftwood and ended up in between Brancaster Beach and Titchwell Marsh and discovered this secret hide away for this family of seals. One is this years pup too, he was a very playful chappy. Really great to see these guys in there natural habitat.

Crafters Block!

Crafters block - Alike writers block it is where someone suffers a period of time without being able to get crafty again. It maybe lack of inspiration, it maybe your workspace is cluttered and getting through the clutter is preventing you from getting started!

My mum, Diane Lynn who creates some fantastic items out of driftwood has never failed to inspire me! However, I am suffering with crafters block since I have moved away from home, which has inspired me to write blog posts here to encourage other people who are experiencing similar problems!

First tip: Have a tidy up of your craft workspace. There's no need to go out and buy storage boxes, look at what you have around. Get crafty with the storage boxes to hopefully get those creative juices flowing!!

Holme Next To Sea

We are off to #Holme Next Sea on the Norfolk Coast Line. collecting more driftwood. Here is todays piece of history.
#Seahenge, which is also known as Holme I, was a prehistoric monument located in the village of Holme-next-the-Sea in the English county of Norfolk. A timber circle with an upturned tree root in the centre, Seahenge was apparently built in the twenty-first century BCE, during the early Bronze Age in Britain, most likely for ritual purposes.

Will have to make-sure we don't collect any of the wood used in Seahenge as driftwood !!!!!
