Skirted tables are making a comeback in today’s design world and we couldn’t be happier. We love the versatility it offers when it comes to styling. Not to mention the added storage provided under the skirt.

Here are a few of our favorite looks below.

We love the classic look of this Greek key round skirted table.

Add personality to an entry with a bold pattern like this.

Designer Jan Showers used a billowing table skirt in this space to add softness.

Today’s kitchens have grown in size and evolved in their function, now becoming a place for families and friends to gather as well as cook and eat . The bar stool has become a mainstay in the kitchen and finding an interesting bar stool to complement your style can at times be a challenge.

Here are some of our favorites below…

The Hickory Chair Amsterdam bar stool, inspired by late 1800′s Parisian furniture.

Another Hickory Chair bar stool called the Laurent, inspired by French Modern chairs of the 1930′s, has a contoured back, reeded apron and finely tapered legs that join together with a French brass x-shaped stretcher.

Then there is the Bertoia bar stool from Knoll, an industrial look that adds an element of modern to any kitchen.

The Era bar stool from Design within Reach is a classic design from designer Michael Thonet. This bar stool is graceful, lightweight and surprisingly strong.

Design Detail: Decorating with Plates

Displaying plates is a great way to create visual interest to an otherwise ordinary space or provide a color accent to a space.

We are especially fond of white plates and often times incorporate collections or groupings in kitchens or breakfast spaces.

Painting the backside of a cabinet or hutch is a fun way to highlight the all white grouping.

Plates can also be used to create a color accent in a space.

Arrangements might include heirlooms, flea market finds or new purchases.

Plates can create a color statement for a space. Hang them over a mantel, along a hallway or arount the walls of a breakfast nook.

Even use them above a bed to create a fun and unexpected form of art.
