My Daughters Self-Esteem

My oldest daughter is 8 years old and she has reached the stage where she has an "opinion" about how she looks. She wants her hair a certain way; she wants to wear certain clothing, and if she feels that something is ugly she shuts down until it changes or until she gets in trouble. I was teased a lot growing up so I understand how being teased can make you feel. As a result, I vowed that I would do my best to prevent this from happening to my children. About 2-3 months ago my daughter came home from school asking could she get braces. She said that some of the kids in her class were teasing her about her teeth. I had already planned to get braces for her because the dentist suggested it. I told her that she could get them but I also explained to her that she is beautiful no matter what anyone says about her. It is a priority in my life to let my daughters know that they are beautiful. Afterall, their self-esteem is forming now and I want to be the positive influence that leads them to high self-esteem.

There are two forms of self-esteem that one can possess, low self-esteem and high self-esteem. In this day and age over half of the female population suffer from low self-esteem. We all can overcome this but in order to do so we first must fully understand what self-esteem is.

Let's take a look at how the Wikepedia defines it: "Self-esteem is a term used in psychology to reflect a persons overall evaluation or appraisal of his or her own worth. Self-esteem encompasses (for example, "I am competent" or "I am incompetent") and despair, pride and shame. A person's self-esteem may be reflected in their behaviour, such as in assertiveness, shyness, confidence or caution. Self- esteem can apply specifically to a particular dimension (for example, "I believe I am a good writer, and feel proud of that in particular") or have global extent (for example, "I believe I am a good person, and feel proud of myself in general"). writer, and feel proud of that in particular") or have global extent (for example, "I believe I am a good person, and feel proud of myself in general"). Since its fathers day, I've decided to dedicate this post to them. Fathers play a major role in the growth and development of their children. Girls especially need their fathers to feel loved. I have often seen women suffer from low self esteem as a result of the lack of love shown by their fathers. We often overlook how important the role of a father in a daughters life is. Many girls seek love from other men when their father is absent. They engage in dangerous activities such as drinking, drug use, sexual behavior, etc. A father is the first man that they encounter on the earth and he helps to shape their identity. Sons desperately need their fathers. Fathers help to mold men into responsible citizens. Visits to the prisons have shown that a lot of men who are in there didn't have a father in the home while growing up. A lot of men who join gangs do so because they feel loved and didn't have family growing up. Men are very important to their sons life. So on this Fathers Day I salute the dads who are taking care of business and to the ones who aren't get it together before its too late!!!

Plus size IS beautiful!!!

I don't have a problem with plus size women. Matter fact they dress a lot better than smaller women at times. What I do have a problem with is plus size women not wearing the right size or style of clothing. There are many stores that cater to plus size women such as:Ashley Stewart, and ladies Ashley Stewart be having some good stuff.
