Last week we were kindly invited along to an intimate blogger event with The Body Shop in Silverburn Shopping Centre to find out more about their products. When you’re in your early teens it seems like the thing to do to visit the Body Shop for tea tree oil when the problematic skin starts. Now that we’re a little older we haven’t been too familiar with the products as we used to be but with the event was a chance to try out new products as well as rediscovering some old favourites. Here’s what happened.

We started off with the makeup counters, which is the area of The Body Shop we weren’t too familiar with. The counters had a great variety of eyeshadows with both shimmer and matte shades in the new Colour Crush collection. Also a choice of foundation bases, lipsticks, blushers and many more to choose from. A product we really liked trying was the Matte It Skin Primer, it felt so soft and silky on the skin and it’s safe to say, after the event we’ve went back and picked up the full size. Their Concealer All In One also resembles the Benefit FakeUp concealer and is £10 cheaper too.

A feature we liked about the store is how the products are laid out. On the shelves they have products arranged by product type such as body butters, hand lotion, foot lotion for those who want an individual product and in the middle tables, everything is arranged by scent. We’re big fans of the mango, coconut and strawberry scents so we zoomed in on the middle tables to see what different variations they had per scent. Each product has testers available so you can try them out for yourself and find what suits you best. One of our favourites, the Coconut Body Butter is actually 21 years old, as old as we are!

Once the lovely staff went through all the products with us, we were let loose in the store with tester pots to choose which samples we wanted to take home with us. It was a really nice touch as we were given the freedom to choose which products we would use ourselves and with so many products to choose from, it was like letting kids loose in a candy shop, or beauty bloggers in a beauty shop for that matter. We were also allowed to choose an eau de toilette and an eyeshadow of our choice which I’m sure we’ll mention in a later post. All in all it was a really lovely event and we’d like to thank the Body Shop staff and Silverburn for inviting us along.

Before we end the post, we’d just like to give a shout out to a twitter campaign The Body Shop has in association with the Teenage Cancer Trust. From Saturday 25th May - Tuesday 28th May if you send a tweet including @TheBodyShopUK, @TeenageCancer and hash tag #TeenSpirit along with a description or picture of your most outlandish teenage look they’ll donate £1 to the Teenage Cancer Trust per tweet. They’ll also be taking part in stores so make sure you go along and show your support this weekend if you’re passing by. We both went through a little bit of an emo/goth stage during our teenage years so make sure you keep an eye out on our Twitter for that!

Beauty wise, there’s nothing I love more than freshly painted nails. It completes your look and allows me to experiment with a wide variety of colours I’d be too shy to wear on my face. For some reason, I’ve found that pink shades can be problematic in their application so it’s hard to find the right one to do the job well. I’ve been testing out the JACAVA London polish in Blackberry Fool and here’s how I’ve got on.

If you haven’t heard of JACAVA, they offer the worlds first “8-free” nail varnish which basically means it’s free from DBP, Camphor, Formaldehyde, Toluene, Collophane, Parabens, Phthalates and Animal Ingredients. I’m not too sure what they all mean either but they don’t sound like things I’d want in a nail polish anyway! They don’t test on animals either which is a huge bonus if you’re looking for a cruelty free alternative.

The polish itself has a high glossy finish, similar to the Barry M Gelly polishes and the nourishing formula helps your nails stay stronger for longer. I do like the look of the packaging as it has a luxe appeal however it can make the nail painting process a little harder than it needs to be. Perhaps it’s due to the fact that I have tiny hands and any nail painting process takes time but once you’ve found the right grip it becomes a lot easier. After a 4 day wear I’ve found it to be really long lasting with very minimal chipping.

The actual shade is a gorgeous berry toned pink colour which will suit pretty much everyone and it makes a change from the usual pastel for Spring. I think the shade really compliments my Chantecaille Lipstick also if you’re looking for a good matching lipstick shade.

I’d really recommend the shade Blackberry Fool but they do have a wide variety of colours to choose from if it isn’t your taste. They also offer a Colour Swatch Service in which they’ll send you a swatch for 50p each to see what the colour looks like in real life before committing to a full size bottle. You can find JACAVA polishes for £14.50 each directly on their website or at FeelUnique.com.

It’s been a little while since our last Q&A so we thought we’d pop one up today. We’ve had quite a busy month with events and arranging a little giveaway for you all so make sure you stay tuned with us for more exciting info about that soon. As always if you’d like to ask us a question you can do so via our ASK box but in the meantime, here’s some questions you’ve been asking us lately.

To be honest, I’d save your money! BB creams are basically just glorified tinted moisturisers and although there are one or two good ones it’s probably not what you need if you’re breaking out. I find that using gentle skincare such as cleansing milks, moisturisers and oils get rid of breakouts far better than anything else.

Lovely random question! Sami’s is light blue/turquoise and Lisa’s is rainbow, she loves all the colours haha.

Spring fashion is always very predictable isn’t it! Lots of pastels, nudes, light denim. Not as many florals this year though. It’s certainly making it hard to find graduation dresses for us!

We were actually talking about this last week and how we’re both terrible at washing them regularly! Ideally you should try to wash them about once a week at least if you’re only using them on yourself. Usually Sunday is the day we wash ours, ready for Monday morning.

You can find the Curl Harmony Curl Reviver direct from: www.curlharmony.co.uk/shop. Hope this helps!

Curly Sue

Some call it a blessing, some call it a burden, whichever camp your in one things for sure having thick curly hair can be a real pain to keep in check. Especially during the warmer months as humidity leaves us curly sue’s more frizzy than fabulous. With this in mind I thought I’d share my current picks for keeping my curls in check.

Time for a little confession here, I don’t actually wash my hair that much (shock horror) I usually try to keep it to 1-2 washes per week, mainly because my hair is so thick, long and frizzy so frequent washing would just dry my locks right out! When I do reach for the shampoo I aint too fussy, it’s conditioning that really gets my attention. When I was first sent the Curl Harmony Deep Conditioner* and Curl Reviver* I wont lie, my expectations weren’t all that high, no idea why. Thankfully I couldn’t have been more wrong as NOTHING has ever had such an impact on my frizz. These two beauties literally turned my curls from steel wool to silk, all with very minimum effort required. If you have frizzy hair I would seriously recommend these two, especially the curl reviver!

If I’m going for all out big bouncy glamorous curls or waves then I’ll always work in a big blob of the Percy & Reed Voluminising Mousse* into my damp hair, this just gives my curls a lift, as my hair is quite long it does tend to drag my roots down, so a blob of this ensures I maintain some much needed volume at my crown. Regardless of whether I’m wearing my hair straight, wavy or curly I always add one pump of the Label M Age-Defying Radiance Oil* to my hair, not only is this the best smelling hair care range ever, it’s also such a gorgeous lightweight hair oil that disguises split ends really well! If I know I’m going to be out and about all day I always carry this Oil with me in my handbag as it really revives the hair throughout the day, and it adds an amazing scent.

Finally the TRESemme Texture Style Texture Definition Spray* is a new addition to my routine, but is fast becoming a firm favourite (I’ve nearly finished this can). One thing I hate about just washed hair is the softness and flatness of it, a spray of this amongst the lengths of your locks completely transforms limp soft hair into textured tousled goodness. This is especially effective on curled styles, and even better it doesn’t leave any sort of yucky hardness or dryness to the hair. This is going to be perfect for creating beachy summer waves this season!

So there we go, my current curl saviours. I’d love to know how you guys keep your curls in check, do you love any of these products as much as me? Now did someone mention creating a beachy wave…

*PR Sample

Chantecaille Lip Chic Lipstick

I’ve always been a bit scared to wear darker lipstick shades. Perhaps it’s due to my pale complexion or the fact that I don’t want to appear as if I’ve stepped out of the 90s grunge scene. It wasn’t until my recent foray into sheer lipsticks that the pale pinks of MAC Angel and Topshops Innocent have been cast aside for a slightly darker, sheerer alternative. Chantecaille has always been a brand on my wishlist to try but with a wide variety of products to choose from it can be a little overwhelming at first. With any high end purchase, in my opinion the lipsticks are always a great place to start.

Oh look at that, my face has appeared! I almost never do swatches but hopefully this helps to see how it looks on. The colour of the Chantecaille Lip Chic Lipstick in Heirloom* is actually really hard to describe! Some say it’s dark red, others say dusty rose but on my lips it applies like a dark browny pink with a hint of plum when applied fully. I find that there’s a slight bluish tone to the lipstick which makes your teeth appear a little whiter too which is always a bonus. It’s a lovely contrast from my pale skin and since I’m not an everyday eyeshadow wearer, it provides a lovely focal point to the face. It does have a tiny bit of a sparkle in it but it’s very subtle and hardly noticeable, I can assure you won’t have a disco ball going on in your lips!

It’s without a doubt the most moisturising lipstick I’ve ever tried. It applies with a very glossy finish but after time it sets into a lip stain, which is quite normal for a sheer lipstick. I love the versatility that comes with this lipstick too as it can be put straight on for a full on dramatic lip look or slightly muted with a little dab of tissue for an everyday look.

Now the price is £30 which is a lot to spend on a single lipstick. But for the quality and versatilely it provides, it definitely makes the price much more bearable. I always say you’re better to buy darker, sheerer lipsticks to get your moneys worth as they always last much longer and you can achieve many different looks with a single product. Since it arrived I’ve been wearing it non stop in all different variations and it’s fast becoming one of my all time favourites.

*PR Sample

Long Live Steam!

To many the little tin above is just another moisturiser, nothing remarkable. But to the trained eye this is pretty special, this is Steam Cream a hand made natural blend of ingredients fused together with a shot of steam, making this a light weight super hydrating hero for the skin and face.

It’s the way this award winning cream is made that really sets it apart from other moisturisers, most creams are made up of complex molecules which are bound together by a powerful emulsifying process, however this means they just kind of linger on the skins surface. Steam Cream is different, the force of the shot of steam fuses the natural ingredients together instantly meaning the formula sinks into the skin easier. Basically this cream is designed to moisturise deep into the skin and deliver a softness that lasts.

I usually keep my little tin beside my bed, and use it basically everywhere, I love using this on my hands before bed, and it’s also my favourite neck cream too as it’s so light. This will definitely be coming along on holiday with me as it is such a useful hard working product.

Something else I love about good old Steam Cream is the tins! New styles and collaborations are always being released, my boyfriend chose mine for me and I love it, very patriotic. Once I’ve used up all the product this will definitely be getting recycled into a new home for my kirby grips (as their current home is in little clusters all over my house). You can go check out all the current designs on the Steam Cream website here.

I’m not usually the biggest fan of these types of multi purpose creams and balms but I definitely think that everyone should make a little room in their handbags, beauty cupboards and bedside tables for this little tin of magic!

TONI&GUY Touch Control Hairdryer

They say that without using good quality make up brushes, your products won’t perform well and it’s safe to say the same applies with hairdryers. You could spend ages applying your favourite shampoo and conditioner and all the argan oils in the world in the hope for a lovely sleek look but ultimately your hairdryer is in charge. Without the right heat and speed settings suited to your hair, all that hard work might leave you with a frizzy mess. We’ve been trying out the TONI&GUY Touch Control Hairdryer* for over 2 months and here’s how we’ve got on.

Hair tools have become a lot more sleek in design and a lot more user friendly. Gone are the days of a simple on and off switch as most recent modern hairdryers now put you in control and thats exactly what the TONI&GUY Touch Control Hairdryer does. The award winning dryer features LCD controls which let you adjust the heat, speed and Ion levels with a total of 20 different variations up to 2000W so there’s something for everyone.

At first when we heard it was a touch control dryer, we had doubts of accidentally turning the dryer on and off but this isn’t the case at all. The on/off button is situated at the handle which you push in so you won’t have to worry.

Once turned on, the screen will show up on the side of the dryer with the current speed/heat which you adjust with the controls. The design is so sleek that the screen is hidden when turned off that you’d never know if was there until you turned it on, it’s a fun little design feature. The screen also lights up red or blue depending on the hot/cold settings you picked.

For adjusting the heat and speed settings, the controls are situated on the left side of the handle. For a right handed person this is perfect but might leave potential for a left hander to accidentally press buttons. For a quick heat or speed change it’s simply pressing the buttons, so you don’t need to fiddle about with a slider to get your desired setting. It’s a really simplified design and probably what hair dryers should have had all this time. After a while the pictures on the buttons have started to come off but you’ll know which button to use before that happens anyway.

Compared to other hairdryers we’ve used in the past, one of the main qualities that stands out is how light it weighs. If you have long hair like us, you’ll know how long it takes to dry so holding this dryer up for a long period of time is so easy. And if you need the last bit of encouragement, it has a Tourmaline Colour Lock and Advanced Variable Ionic Moisture Protection technologies. Yeah we don’t know what those are either but it sounds like something you’d want in a hair dryer anyway!

From using the dryer for the past two months, our old dryers have been cast aside and these are definitely here to stay. For a dryer that is so versatile at an RRP of £40 (£21 on Amazon!), it’s extremely affordable.

Back in my early high school days, Impulse sprays were all the rage. You wouldn’t find a girl who didn’t have them and trips to Boots meant picking up the latest Impulse scent. It’s been quite a while since I’ve last tried them, but they’ve always had a great selection of scents to choose from. I remember stocking up on the Goddess scent when it came out but sadly when P.E classes were no longer compulsory, my Impulse collection reduced and I moved onto perfumes. Now Impulse are back in action, all grown up, featuring 11 fragrances developed by the world-renowned fragrance experts of Dior and Calvin Klein. Here’s what they have to offer.

Romantic Spark - Created with a blend of sweet wild violets and woody notes of white sandalwood. I’d say this could definitely pass as an evening scent. I personally love anything with sandalwood and the sweetness of the violets really compliment the woody undertone.

Tease - Earthy, natural fragrance notes of red fruits and woods. This is the one for those who like really fruity scents. After time the woody scent does come through but the fruit scent is very uplifting, really nice scent.

Very Pink - A sparkling blend of pink grapefruit with a sweet base of vanilla and rose. I’m not usually a big fan of vanilla scents but this isn’t sickly sweet which is perfect. I’d say compared to the others, the scent is very subtle so if you want something not too overpowering you should give this one a go.

Secret Smile - Limited edition scent featuring fragrance notes of raspberry and gardenia. I can say without hesitation this is my favourite scent out of the above. Light, fruity, floral scents are my favourite kind and this ticks all boxes. It reminds me of the time I went raspberry picking in the south of England. It is limited edition though, so I’d get your hands on this one quick!

All in all I’m really impressed with the new changes Impulse have made. They’re always great to pop in your handbag or for a quick spray after a trip to the gym to freshen up. They have many more scents in the range to choose from so make sure you try them out on your next visit to Superdrug.

Now lets get one thing clear, the title of this post may say ‘gift set’ but the only person receiving this gift is me. Quite frankly because this wash bag is, perfection! This sums up everything I love, a bold seventies inspired print, durable material, very roomy oh and it has some lovely products inside too, what’s not to love? Swooning session over, lets get down to the nitty gritty. Irish born designer Orla Kiely has been named ‘the Queen of prints’ and quite rightly so, whether its on a beautiful dress, a dishcloth or this humble wash bag her prints really do sing and pop out against what can be today’s very modern, dull background.

This happy little wash bag is the perfect travel companion (and for those a little less selfish, the perfect gift) not only because of the pattern, but the great size and material. However, the most obvious selling point is the treats included. The Geranium Shower Gel packed with skin loving ingredients such as geranium eucalyptus, clary sage, marshmallow extract and pro vitamin B5 has a gorgeous aromatherapy feel to it, lathering up beautifully leaving its sweet oily scent lingering on the skin for long after. The Geranium Body Lotion sinks into the skin almost instantly leaving skin soft and smooth, the ingredients list here is just as impressive as the shower gel with aloe vera and vitamin E to really ensure skin is left moisturised and smelling very fresh. Finally the Geranium Hand Cream with cucumber oil, leaves hands feeling fresh and smooth. I love using this on the go as the scent is so uplifting and the formula is non greasy, it’s also a nice bonus that the hand cream is full size!

I can’t wait to use these goodies when I jet off on holiday in three weeks, they are going to make the perfect travel companions. I spotted this gift set recently on Feel Unique for £24, but I’m sure it’s available in lots of other places. Do you guys get as giddy over lovely prints as I do? What are your favourite Orla Kiely products? It’s now time to start compiling my travel essentials to fill my lovely new bag…

Sadly, the music festival season is non existant for me this year. For the past three years I’ve been to both Glastonbury and T In the Park and along the way I’ve came up with some helpful tips on how to keep your hair lasting throughout the whole time. As someone who has to wash their hair everyday it was tough adjusting to the fact that I’d be unable to wash it for 4 or 5 days, eek! Of course I’d be armed with my Batiste Dry Shampoo incase of emergencies but I came up with a solution on how to make it last even longer.

Before you leave for your festival of choice, I’d suggest washing your hair with shampoo and conditioner at the very last minute. I mean literally finishing drying your hair and hopping on that coach! I’d recommend products easy to wash out of your hair with little risk of product build up, Aussie Miracle Shine might be a good choice.

Once you’ve washed your hair, it’s time to prep it before drying. I find the KMS California Hair Stay Style Boost mousse amazing at making your hair last longer. It gives a sort of texturised feel to the hair, makes it a little less soft so it’s in the perfect condition for styling.

On top of that you might want to add a little spray of the Umberto Giannini Frizzi Extreme Taming Spray*. This simply tames your frizz and makes your hair more weather proof. If you’ve ever been to a festival, you know how the weather can be very unpredictable! My first Glastonbury festival was scorching hot throughout and my last one was raining 80% of the time, always be prepared!

Once you’ve completed those steps and dried your hair I’d recommend spritzing a little bit of Label.m Sea Salt Spray* onto the middle/ends of your hair. This gives it a little more texture and helps create beachy waves without needing to use hair curlers. I find that you can go a bit crazy with Sea Salt Spray so spray away and scrunch the ends of your hair until you get your desired look.

And thats it! It may seem like quite a lot of products but they’re all dry based and won’t leave a product build up on your hair. I found by having a routine like this my hair lasted for a lot longer than it usually does so I could have fun and not have to worry about it. To be honest when you’re out seeing your favourite bands you’ll probably forget all about it! Enjoy your festivals, and yes that is a picture of Beyonce at Glastonbury above!

I’m sure we’ll do a festival beauty essentials post soon but we’ve just been told by Cult Beauty that they’re currently giving away a free Festi-vival Kit** with all orders over £50 which includes:

If you’re an avid reader of beauty blogs, you have probably came across a Diptyque candle or two. These luxury candles have been making their way through the blogosphere and after many hours of adding them to my shopping list and clicking away, I couldn’t resist any longer. Rather than take a gamble and buy a full sized candle, I came across the Diptyque Classic Coffret which features three of their most loved candles in miniature form. Here’s what I thought of them.

The candles fit inside a gorgeous rectangular white box with the classic Diptyque logo and this little card inside explaining about the candles inside. It’s a really lovely touch and would make a perfect gift for a candle lover like myself. Each candle has a different scent and comes in a 70g glass jar, just a bit wider and taller than a large shot glass I’d say. In my opinion, they could have been a little bigger for the price but they do last for thirty hours which makes it a little more bearable. I purchased this set in Space.NK when they had £10 off products, which was too hard to resist…when in rome eh!

Baies is the berry scent of the trio, and probably my favourite out of the set. It contains a blend of rose with a strong blackcurrant scent which I’ve never came across in a candle before. It’s one of those candles which hits you as soon as you walk in a room and the blackcurrant scent is definitely the dominant one. If you want a fruity scent I’d definitely recommend Baies. I think I might have to buy a full sized one when this one runs out!

I’ve been really into fig candles lately after trying out Jonathan Wards Fig Ultimatum candle and Figuier seemed like the perfect one to try. I think this one is safe to say the bloggers favourite but I found that I didn’t love it as much as I wanted to. Compared to the other two scents, I found that Figuier wasn’t living up to it’s expectations and I didn’t get a strong scent from it at all. Not that it was unpleasant in the slightest but I felt that the scent wasn’t that noticeable and not one I’d be rushing to light again. Of course I will use the rest up but not a scent I’d consider purchasing in full size.

The last of the trio is Roses, the floral scent of the collection. Before the set arrived I wasn’t expecting too much from Roses. I felt that it would be a generic rose scent and not much else but this is definitely the underdog in the collection. Of course it does have a rose scent but in my opinion it has more of a woody undertone which makes it stand out a lot more. Like Baies, it’s a very powerful scent which hits you in the face when you walk into a room and I’m definitely much more excited to light it than I first was.

All in all, this is a gorgeous set and it would make a lovely gift for a loved one (aka yourself). You can of course buy the minis for the same price individually if you’d prefer to mix and match but if you’re not so sure then the Classic Coffret would be a great place to start. Let me know if you’ve tried any of these scents or if you have any other Diptyque favourites, I’d love to know.

Purminerals Beautiful Creatures Palette

Purminerals Beautiful Creatures Palette*

Like any other self confessed beauty addict, the sight of a new eyeshadow palette leaves me weak at the knees! Especially when that palette is as beautiful as this limited edition offering from purminerals. Inspired by the film Beautiful Creatures this set of shadows aims to target lovers of sweet neutral looks and those who like something a little more daring, and with eight shades to chose from I’d say it caters for everyone. It also comes with a little mini lip gloss and a pencil eye liner.

So onto the shades, as I said there are eight to choose from, three of which are matte;
Forbidden- a warm copper toned shade that’s perfect for adding depth to the eyes.
Supernatural- a staple champagne shimmer that everyone should have in their make-up bags.
Siren- a gorgeous murky green, which is beautiful used under the eye to create a more daring summer look.
Spellbound- a matte cream shade that’s great for evening out the tone of the lids.
Fate- my personal favourite from the palette, a flatters all mink shade.
Fantasy- a daring plum, perfect for working into the crease as an alternative to black or brown.
Secret- a baby pink matte shade that’s useful for creating ‘no make-up’ looks.
Cursed- a matte purple shade that would be perfect for creating smoky 60’s inspired looks.

The packaging of this seems durable enough and there’s also a dinky little fluffy brush included which is actually very good for depositing a quick sheer wash of colour or blending out more intense tones patted on with the finger. I love the big mirror too, this is a really good palette for on the go as the shade range fits most looks and the brush is actually better than expected. The gloss is lovely, but I’m not really the best person to chatter on about glosses as they aren’t really my thing. The liner does the job, it wouldn’t be my liner of choice, but for on the go it’s really just a good quality pencil liner.

I can’t wait to experiment with this and create some looks, maybe I’ll even pop a few up here. Have you guys tried anything from purminerals? I’d love to know what your favourite palettes are! Now did someone mention a 60’s inspired smoky eye…?

I’ve always been a fan of Cath Kidston, or pretty much anything with a floral or polka dot print to be honest. When I see brands like hers come out with beauty products I never have high expectations but this time I was pleasantly surprised. The Wild Flowers trio is a lovely assortment of handbag sized hand creams with scents of Bluebell, Wild Rose and Honeysuckle. Naturally sweet but not too overpowering.

A factor which made me enjoy them even more is that they contain no parabens or sulphates which I wouldn’t expect a brand of this nature to be concerned about. Although after a little researching for this post, I’ve found that they do infact contain mineral oil which disappointed me quite a lot. If you haven’t been keeping up with skincare advice from the infamous Caroline Hirons lately, my basic understanding is that mineral oil is a cheap ingredient which is used as a sort of moisturising mask to make your skin feel soft and silky but it’s not actually doing much for the skin on a deeper level, basically it sits on the surface.

A little disappointing but aside from that, these hand creams are great for a quick moisturising fix during the day. I’d suggest a more nourishing hand cream for night time but I haven’t found any issues from using them. I also think they’d make a really nice gift for a friend and at £6 for the trio, they’re a bargain. If you use them and find that you like one the most, you can also buy them in full size. If I were to choose my favourite out of the three, it would definitely be Bluebell.

One of the things I love most about beauty is how certain products are tailored for certain times of the day, month, year and season. It’s basically just an excuse for us beauty junkies to accumulate more goodies to add to our obviously ‘essential’ collections. So with this in mind I thought I’d share with you some products I’m currently enjoying using in the evening.

I have always been a bath girl at heart, I enjoy the convenience and freshness of a shower, but for me, nothing could replace the comforting feeling of a bath. Recently I’ve been enjoying my night time soak with Avons Sleeptherapy Dreamy Body Wash, this bubbles up a treat and is actually a really soft luxurious wash too. But the deal breaker with this is the scent, oh my goodness, this smells delicious! It’s so gentle and relaxing, the perfect way to end a long day, and it’s also very reasonably priced too. If I’m really feeling like pampering myself then nothing feels more spa like than the Arran Aromatics Lavender & Black Pepper Mineral Soak, a handful of these salts thrown in some running hot water will transform your humble bath into what can only be described as a haven! To top of my bath time ritual I always find myself going back to the Korres Vanilla Plum Body Milk, this stuff works wonders on my skin and is also very light and fuss free, which is perfect for when I really don’t want to spend too much time pampering. The scent is a very deep, warm musk that wont be to everyone’s taste, so definitely give this a sniff before you purchase!

Currently, the favourite part of my night time routine is using the Pure Fiji Hydrating Multiactive Serum*. I’ve never tried a serum like this, the formula is so light and cooling and the scent is wonderful, very exotic. I pat a pump full of this into my skin before my moisturiser morning and night and it’s really transformed the surface of my skin, this is definitely going to be part of my skin care routine for a long time. I always find the easiest way to keep on top of the condition of your lips is to smother them in a good quality balm before bed, my treatment of choice is the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream Lip Balm, super handy, very conditioning and a firm favourite. If my skins feeling a little dry or just in need of some extra TLC then ill add a pump of the Nourish Argan Skin Rescue Oil* into my routine, this smells delicious and works well with my oily skin to really hydrate my skin without adding to the greasiness.Something that goes hand in hand with my nightly dose of lip balm is the Weleda Skin Food*, I love to pop this super concentrated cream onto any dry patches or cuts and bruises to really give a deep moisture surge whilst I sleep, this is another product that’s really handy to just keep by your bed or in your handbag!

It wouldn’t be bed time without a cup of tea for me, and my current favourite night time tipple is the Clipper Sleep Easy Infusion, packed with ingredients such as Valerian, cinnamon and chamomile this stuff is delicious! Last but by no means least is my new favourite sleeping companion, the L’Occitane Pillow Mist, my boyfriend picked me this up last month, and since then I’ve been using it constantly, I think my favourite thing about it is that it doesn’t smell like lavender, as much as I love lavender bathing products, I’m not too fond of them on my pillow, to me this scent is undesrcibable, you need to go have a whiff!

So there you have it, my current favourite night time treats, what products do you guys love using at night time? After all this talk of sleeping and relaxing, I think I’m off for a nap…

This week we attended the INAA Scottish Hair and Beauty Award finalist announcement blogger event at The Apartment in Glasgows 29 Private Members Club. The awards to celebrate Scottish talent are being hosted by I Need An Appointment, an online hair and beauty portal booking service and sponsored by GHD, Laurens Way and many more exciting brands.

There were a ton of Scottish bloggers at the event, where as a year or two ago, there were only a small selection of us so it was a great chance to mingle with old and new faces. You may have even seen the #shaba2013 hashtag floating around on twitter on the evening!

At the beginning of the event, there were talks from the owners of INAA, very inspirational ladies and spoke about how a lot of women feel they don’t deserve to treat themselves to beauty treatments and a bit of pampering. It definitely made us feel good about what we do and how social media has the ability to change the way we think about things. Sure, getting a nice manicure won’t change the world but it would definitely brighten up your day wouldn’t it? When we recently went for a massage treatment we felt amazing, it just shows! Plus, the fact that you can now book beauty appointments online makes it even easier and more of an excuse to treat yourself! Next was a short and sweet talk from TOWIES Lauren Goodger, introducing her Laurens Way brand with products of a fake tan, glamorous nature, every bit of essex you could imagine. In our opinion, much prettier in real life than on tv.

After the talks we were whisked off to The Apartment, a huge room packed with bloggers, wine and demonstrations from Bare Minerals, Bumble & Bumble and live fake tans from Laurens Way. There was even a GHD giveaway but sadly neither of us won, oh well! All in all, we had a lovely time catching up with our favourite bloggers who we hadn’t seen in a long time and it was a very fun event to attend. The Scottish blogger community is constantly growing and it’s great to see more events like this pop up more often.

I remember when I first started wearing lipstick that I thought sheer lipsticks were a bit of a waste of money. I couldn’t understand why people were paying for a lipstick which doesn’t have a full colour payoff until I discovered these beauties. Sheer lipsticks are the perfect excuse to pull off darker, more daring shades without looking overdone. I don’t think I could pull off a full red lip during the day but I have no problem with a slightly sheerer alternative.

When the Boots 3 for 2 offer is on, you have to go on a little crazy shopping spree, it is the rule! The Revlon Lip Butters have been raved about for so long and usually I wait until the hype has died down before trying out the latest trend but these products are still going strong.

I decided to go for 1 pale shade and 2 more daring shades to start off with: Pink Lemonade, Wild Watermelon and Sorbet. Coincidently they were all the newer shades in the collection. Usually the paler shades are the safest option for me but sadly Pink Lemonade and I didn’t get on. Although it would usually be my colour of choice, it made me look completely washed out and ill looking, perhaps suited to someone a little more tanned than me. Next is Wild Watermelon, the shade that sealed the deal. I’d describe it as a sort of pinky red, basically the colour of watermelon! The colour is extremely pigmented and it glides on so well, If you were to pick up any shades I’d highly suggest this one. Sorbet isn’t too far off from Wild Watermelon but has a much more fuchsia tone to it, if you’re more of a pink person then this is the one for you.

All in all I’d really recommend you try the Revlon Lip Butters, I think they’re a great way to introduce colour into your make up routine and the bright colours are absolutely perfect for Spring/Summer. Though from my experience, stick to the deeper shades! If you have any recommendations on other lip butter shades, please let me know!

When it comes to scents, I’m pretty loyal. If I have a penchant for a particular scent then I usually tend to bulk buy items with only that scent, is it just me, or does anyone else do this? Anyway one of my favourite scents of all time has to be cocoa butter! I love how it fits in with all seasons and is subtle enough not to be overpowering but still extremely comforting and lovely.

So obviously this means that the Vaseline Essential Moisture Cocoa Radiant range is pretty much PERFECT for me! Lets start with the rich feeling lotion, which has fast become my night time lotion of choice, Please don’t let the name fool you, although this is rich, there isn’t a sticky horrible after effect at all, this sinks in almost instantly leaving behind a sweet scent and lovely supple soft skin, I’d recommend this for anyone looking for an intensive moisturiser without the sticky feeling.

The rich body butter is definitely perfect for anyone who has very dry skin or is just looking for something more intense. This is so thick and creamy and feels so luxurious when applied, I love using this after a night time bath! I would definitely recommend keeping this one for night time use only as it takes a while to settle into the skin, which I don’t mind as it’s such a nice feeling wakening up with super soft skin (and it leaves your bed smelling like cocoa butter which for me is an added bonus!).

I’d always wanted to try out this body gel oil as I don’t tend to get on very well with more traditional oils, I find them to be a bit of a pain to apply. This could not be further from the norm, this stuff glides on like a dream and is so light and refreshing, but still gives your skin the gorgeous feel and glow of an oil. This is my favourite thing to use after shaving my legs at the moment as it really helps eliminate any razor burn. If your after something a little different then I’d really recommend this.

Finally it’s the lip therapy, I don’t think I know of anyone who hasn’t tried one of these little pots. The uses for these are endless and the packaging makes it so handy to just throw in your bag. Obviously this is my scent of choice from the pretty extensive range available.

These goodies along with a whole lot more are available pretty much everywhere I think from Boots to Asda, I really don’t think you’ll struggle to find these. Have you guys tried anything from the Vaseline range? Whats your favourite?

Today is a special day as it is our blogs 2nd birthday! We’ve had an amazing two years and can’t thank you all enough for reading, commenting and generally the support you’ve given us these past 2 years. We’re in the process of coming up with something special for a giveaway so if you have anything in mind you’d like to win then please let us know, suggestions would be great! In the meantime, here’s some questions you’ve asked us this week:

I can’t say for certain but a lot of people do find that dairy triggers their acne so it’s definitely a possibility. You could try other kinds of milk and see if that makes a difference? I’ve been trying out almond milk instead of cows milk and I get on with it really well so you might want to try it out!

If you mean the Umberto Giannini one I’ve mentioned on the blog before, I contacted the press office for you and it’s been rebranded and reformulated into the Frizzi collection. I haven’t tried that one yet but hopefully it’s similar as I love it too!

Oh dear it sounds to me like you definitely have very sensitive eyes, so sticking to hypo-allergenic, natural options is really going to be best for you. There are loads of eye make-up options out there for sensitive eyes. I personally haven’t tried any myself but I have heard good things about the NATorigins lengthening mascara, which is completely free of any nasties and hypo-allergenic so you should go check that out! Let us know how you get on!

Being a self confessed beauty addict I am always on the hunt for the freshest and glossiest offerings the cosmetics world has to offer, so when hot new brand Glo & Ray asked us to try out some of their products I was more than happy to accept. The brand made its début in September last year and since then has created a beautiful array of sophisticated wearable make-up for the modern day face.

Before all else, lets talk packaging, durable? Check. Simple? Check. Sophisticated? Check. You get the idea, the matte black packaging, similar to that of other higher end brands is fuss free and chic.
I was lucky enough to sample six of the La Amo Creamy Matte Lipsticks and six of the Eternity Long Lasting Eye Liners all of which arrived in shades that were both wearable and exciting.

Glo & Ray La Amo Creamy Matte Lip Colour £12.00 each*

Shades from left to right; Imprint Red (a beautiful peppery red), Cupid (the perfect 80’s pastel pink), Barbie Kiss (a grown up bubblegum), Freeze (a 70’s mink), Fallin’ (the perfect everyday your lips but better shade) and finally Coral Whisper (a true creamy coral).

These lipsticks are very moisturising, there isn’t a dry lip in sight when these are applied. The ‘hydro wrapping system’ softens and moisturises the lips whilst the ‘colour fitness complex’ ensure that after just one sweep the lips are packed with colour and beautifully shaped. Basically, in simple terms these are super creamy, very easy to apply and have a lovely pigmentation. The only teeny tiny negative I will say is that these aren’t the longest lasting lipsticks I’ve tried, probably because they are so moisturising, but that’s nothing a little lip liner and a blot of translucent powder couldn’t fix. My favourite shade is definitely Cupid, I’ve never found a pink like it, it’s the perfect 80’s pink that suits my skin tone and style so well.

If you are wanting to try these gorgeous lippies out then I’d definitely start with a shade like Fallin’, as its such a wearable colour that really would suit all skin tones and styles, and it would let you experience the rich creamy formula. The lipsticks retail for £12.00 each which I think is a fair price for the quality and shade range, there are nine shades to choose from.

Glo & Ray Eternity Long Lasting Eye Liner £9.00 each*

It’s been quite a while since I’ve loved a pencil style liner like this but the quality and pigmentation of these totally blew me away. The creamy formula glides on really easily and deposits a thin line of colour which is really build-able depending on your taste. The best thing about these though is they’re staying power, these seriously do not budge, whether your out dancing all night or having a hard day in the office. Nothing will smudge these and even better there is no transfer (you know that really annoying thing eye-liners do when they kinda rub off a little above your eyelid?).

The liners are available in six shades; London (a true black), Great Blue Hole (a navy/denim shade with flecks of blue glitter), Redtsingy (the PERFECT everyday brown shade), Provence (a rich plum colour with glitter), South Pole (black with a subtle silver shimmer) and finally Houston (a metal grey shade)

If I had to choose one it would be Redtsingy, I’m very pale with fair lashes and brows so for everyday this is the perfect creamy chocolate colour that looks a lot more subtle and natural than back. Ive really been loving using Great Blue Hole under my eyes on nights out for a subtle pop of colour, how adventurous of me eh?

from left to right; London, Houston, Redtsingy, South Pole, Great Blue Hole & Provence

The liners retail for £9.00 each which again I find very reasonable considering the staying power and quality of these, my only word of warning would be to be very gentle with these as I was a bit heavy handed with a couple of mine and due to them being so creamy they snapped quite easily! So only twist out a small amount at a time and try and use a lighter hand than I obviously did!

Both the lipsticks are liners are available on the Glo & ray website here alongside many more goodies! Have you guys tried anything from this brand? What shades are your favourites?
Thanks for reading, take care,

I’ve been watching some make up collection videos on YouTube lately and I always wonder how people with such an extensive collection can use all of their products regularly. In comparison, my make up collection is a little larger than the average girl but everything fits in one space and I only buy products if I don’t own a similar shade. After looking through my make up space in my wardrobe, I realised there are actually a couple of products which I don’t use that often, even though I’d like to. I thought I would share some of my products which I wish I used more and hopefully it will encourage you to have a look in your collection and find some hidden gems you’ve forgotten about!

My most neglected products are probably eyeshadows. I don’t wear them daily and because I have hooded eyes you can’t even tell I’m wearing eyeshadow when I do make the effort! The Pixi Week of Wakeup Makeup Palette is such a great palette when you’re in a bit of a rut and you’re not really sure what to wear that day. There is 3 eyeshadows, 1 blusher and 1-2 lip colours for each day of the week and all of the products are really high quality. I think I might set myself a challenge to use their combinations for a full week.

Continuing on with the eye theme, I was really excited when the Maybelline Colour Tattoos first arrived. Cream eyeshadows before them didn’t work on me at all and I’d be left with huge creases on my eyes. I might try to use these as a base colour for eyeshadow on my next night out.

I haven’t really figured out the best way to apply cream blushers yet, particularly the Topshop Cream Blushers. I always think if I apply them over my foundation it will either ruin everything or I’ll look extremely embarrassed. I’ve heard they work best with stippling brushes so maybe I’ll get more use out of them if I picked one up. Recommendations welcome!

I’d say the product I have most of is mascara. It wasn’t long ago where I had a collection of over 20 of them, It was a sad day when I had to throw them out. The Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara is still one of my favourites, but I’m often in such a rush to do my make up that I don’t really have time to fiddle about with two separate mascaras. The tiny wand really makes a difference to bottom lashes and those tiny inner/outer corner lashes so I really wish I used it more.

Trying to pull off a cat eye liner look has been one of my goals but for the longest time I’ve never been able to do it. Its one of those looks which everyone suits and looks amazing in but me! My Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner has been long neglected until the other night when I actually achieved a perfect line with it! Though the other eye.. lets not go there. It’s probably the easiest liquid eyeliner I’ve come across so I’m definitely going to be practising a lot more with this one.

Last but not least, is red lipstick. I always love wearing my MAC Russian Red lipstick but I find that it can be a bit too daring for everyday wear. The colour is a gorgeous deep red with blue undertones and really looks good on everyone. I often get more use out of bolder colours by dabbing the colour lightly and blending it out for a more subtle look so I think I’ll be trying that with this colour.

I hope you enjoyed this post and it helped you realise which products you’ve been neglecting! It’s always nice to rediscover old favourites.
