Why hello lovelies! It’s been awhile, I know… things have been a little crazy in the Beauty Nerd household! Although my skincare line has not officially launched, we decided to do a small trade show before the holidays, where we sold one of our items as a pre-launch exclusive. It was pretty exciting to get out there and have people experience the brand for the first time…

So now with MIYU picking up and charging full speed ahead, it will be difficult for me to keep up with my blogging duties, here on Beauty Nerd. If you haven’t transitioned over to following me on MIYU yet, I would love for you to do so – it would be so sad to just say goodbye here, don’t you think? I’m never good with goodbyes… It’s easy to stay connected – you can get on our email list here, follow us on Facebook and Twitter – that way, you’ll be sure not to miss a beat!

Project M Update

Hello lovelies! Today, I wanted to give you a little status update on Project M. I have completed the development of my initial line of products, which I am ecstatic about. A couple weeks ago, we had also mailed out 21 samples to a select group of Beauty Nerds who wanted to get in on the development of our line – hence the pile of yellow packages shown above ;). These beauty testers are currently testing away and providing me much valuable feedback.

As you have probably noticed, due to time commitment with starting a new company, it has been hard for me to keep up with my regular 3 posts per week on Beauty Nerd. I have slowed my posts to an average of 2 posts per week, and when I’m really pressed for time, I haven’t even been able to commit to that. It has become evident to me that trying to keep up with Beauty Nerd is not sustainable in the long run. So, with a heavy heart today, I would like to announce that I will only be blogging on Beauty Nerd until Christmas. But fear not, it doesn’t mean that I will stop blogging altogether. I will just be blogging on my new site instead…

which is… are you ready for the big reveal? Soo…Project M (as many of you know) is a code name for the actual name of my line . The ‘M’ actually stands for MIYU Beauty. ‘MIYU’ [pronounced mee-you], is a Japanese word that means ‘origins of beauty’, a sentiment that you will see, is reflected throughout my line. I am excited to share our landing page with you today: www.miyubeauty.com. I would be so happy if you’d follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc. where we will share all our behind-the-scenes updates before we actually launch our line in May/June of next year. Your support has meant so much to me – thank you for being avid readers of Beauty Nerd. I cannot wait to connect with you on MIYU as well. You are all my fellow Beauty Nerds, and I’m excited for you to be the first group of gals to share this journey with me. Your questions, comments, feedback are what has helped shape the development of this line.

The limited edition NARS Andy Warhol Collection

One of the best beauty collaborations this year has got to be the one between NARS and Andy Warhol. I’ve been a big fan Andy Warhol’s pop art for the longest time and now to see a cosmetic collection created with a palette inspired by Andy’s electric use of colours is so fun! Andy’s artwork is also featured on the packaging, making it a product that you almost want to buy and just display as art itself.

The first kit, A Walk on the Wild Side, includes a silver illuminator, an eccentric purple polish and a lip gloss in Orgasm. My favourite product in this kit has got to be the polish. It’s the perfect winter polish, as the purple is sophisticated yet provides a fun take on last year’s black polish trend. It retails for $39.

The second kit is the Kiss Mini Larger Than Life® Lip Gloss Coffret which includes 5 of the Larger than Life mini glosses. The shades consist of Silver Factory (aluminum glitter), Chelsea Girls (flesh-toned beige), Drella (ultra sheer hot pink), Blue Movie (pink sherbet), Myths (rosy pink). They are all very wearable and the sparkle gloss is a perfect for your upcoming holiday affairs… It retails for $55.

Grand Central Beauty launches with a treatment mask to enhance all skin types

I am a sucker for beauty products that introduce an element of DIY… it may prove to be less convenient for some, but for me (and perhaps it’s the innate chemist in me), I love a little mixology component to the ritual. Enter a brand new line of skincare called Grand Central Beauty. Launched in Spring of 2012, Grand Central Beauty was founded by Jackie Lee and the formulas were concocted by my industry friend, Ginger King. These ladies have decided to launch with just one SKU – a miracle mask that does it all. Aptly named S.M.A.R.T. Skin Perfecting Mask, this skincare treatment boasts the following benefits: Smoothes, Moisturizes, Anti-Aging, Redness-Reducing, Tones, all of which are backed by clinical results.

Want to see how it’s used? All you have to do is combine 1 capsule of the active mask powder, 1 capsule of cool tap water and 1 vial of the intensive booster in the mixing tub (included in the kit). Mix the 3 ingredients with a spatula until it becomes a pretty pink paste. Smear generously onto clean skin and wait about 15 minutes for the mask to set. The gooey texture feels soothing, cooling and hydrating, a great way to simulate a little at-home spa treatment. The mask then becomes rubberized, upon which you can then peel it off, revealing gorgeously brighter, more radiant skin. The following video may help you better visualize the step-by-step process.

MAC Fabulousness and All for Glamour Holiday Kits

You know the holidays are just around the corner when you start spotting all the holiday collections in the stores. It’s always one of my most favourite times of the year. Beauty brands are launching holiday collections galore and I feel like a little girl in a candy store…

My first holiday obsession this year are MAC’s Fabulousness Holiday Eye Kits and their All for Glamour Holiday Face Kits. How adorable are these tufted compacts, each adorned with a little black bow? It’s a little bit haute couture meets Ladurée, wouldn’t you agree?

Below are the two Fabulousness Holiday Eye Kits. On the left, 5 Neutral Eyes contains a series of taupes, browns and mint greens. On the right, 5 Warm Eyes contains gold, bronzes and red shimmer. Each retail for $39.50.

The All for Glamour Face Kits have the same compact design, only slightly larger to accomodate eyeshadows, lipsticks, powders and/or bronzers.

The yellow one below is the All for Glamour Face Kit: Gorgeous Bronze. It contains a bronzer, some neutral pink and purple eyeshadows and rosy/magenta lipsticks. It retails for $56.00. The pink compacts are the All for Glamour Touch Up Kits. These each contain a Blot Powder Pressed and a Sheen Supreme Lipstick, available in 3 different shades. These retail for $39.50 each.

Project M Update + Korres Pomegranate Giveaway Winners!

So a number of you has been asking me about updates on Project M, and I apologize for not providing any information in the last little while.

As a true perfectionist at heart, I went through many, many iterations of my formulas before I got it to a place where I am finally happy with it. I’m using a lot of natural botanicals, which at times, can be difficult to formulate with. I am happy to say though, Project M is moving along its merry way and the landing page will be up shortly – yay!! Shown above, are my little baby lab samples. Exciting, right? Most noteworthy initiatives for October Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Happy Wednesday Beauty Nerds! As you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and since this cause is always near and dear to my heart, it is important for me to dedicate at least one post to breast cancer in the month of October. This year, I feel as though companies have upped the ante with their pink initiatives, three of which I thought are particularly noteworthy.

First up, is the partnership between Heathrow Terminal 3 and the World Duty Free Group, which is a part of The Estee Lauder Companies’ 2012 Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) Campaign. From October 9-16, 2012, the terminal and the World Duty Free Store will be illuminated with pink lights, as a symbol to remind women of the importance of breast health. Keep your eyes peeled for other pink illuminations of global monuments or landmarks across the world that are also participating in The BCA Campaign’s Global Landmark Illumination Initiative.

Second, is OPI’s sparkly pink polish, You Glitter Be Good to Me, launched as a limited edition colour for Breast Cancer Awareness month. OPI has donated $25,000 to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, in association with the 2012 Pink of Hearts program. How could one refuse something pretty, sparkly and for a good cause?

Last but certainly not least, Rethink Breast Cancer has always been known to take a fresh perspective on offering tailored support for breast cancer patients. They have teamed up with a variety of beauty, fashion and lifestyle companies to design products where proceeds will go towards breast cancer education, support and research programs. Whether you want to shop their list of pink products or make a donation, just head on over to their site.

Remember ladies, don’t forget to do regular breast self-exams. If detected early, the five-year survival rate for women ages 20-39 is almost 90%!

Korres Pomegranate Skincare + Giveaway

Korres’ Pomegranate line relies predominantly on their key ingredient, pomegranate (obviously!), to reduce surface oils and shine. Pomegranate also contains a wealth of vitamins and antioxidants. Pomegranate Purifying Natural Clay Mask – I’m always obsessed with a great clay mask – and I highly recommend it for those who have overactive oil glands. The natural clay mask gently draws out impurities while the zinc absorbs excess oil. The beautiful white clay feels oh-so-amazing on skin and after just 10 minutes, my skin instantly looked perfectly matte and more radiant. 1.35 fl. oz. / 40 ml, $44

Pomegranate Mattifying Treatment – Many of my oily skin friends complain about the look of large pores. Wish there was some way to shrink them? This light cream-gel texture immediately sinks into skin and instantly mattifies complexions. The scent is positively addicting. If you’re combination, just apply to the areas where you are oily (i.e. T-zone). 1.35 fl oz/ 40 ml, $49

Pomegranate Toner – Made with pomegranate water, this clarifying toner is meant to clear the skin of excess dirt, debris, oils and dead skin cells that have accumulated throughout the day or night. It contains witch hazel and Alpine Willowherb extracts which are natural astringents to help reduce the appearance of pores and to create an instantly matte finish. The best part – you’re getting a generous amount of toner (the bottle holds 200 ml!). It will definitely last you quite some time! 6.76 fl. oz / 200 ml, $26

NARS Foreplay

Are you already a fan of NARS’ blush in Orgasm? If so, you’ll be ecstatic to know that they have now launched a new blush and highlighter palette called Foreplay…

Using the original Orgasm blush as a base, NARS has created peach, pink and gold variants of this gorgeous colour so that you could create your own custom glow. Personally, blushes are my favourite fall item. I love the colour blocking look of this palette and cannot wait to get my blush brush into it! Here are the colours that are included in this palette:

John Masters Organics Argan Oil

It took me a little while to get used to applying oil to my face. But now that I’ve started, I think I may be hooked. It will definitely be an ongoing staple for me during cooler months.

Currently, I am using John Masters Organics 100% Argan Oil and my skin is just drinking it up. Just one drop of oil goes a long way. I usually use it before bedtime, to nourish and rejuvenate my skin while I sleep. John Masters claims that it can also reduce the appearance of fine lines and blemishes – that, which I’m still waiting to see after a couple more months of use.

The price tag is a little high, at $50, but you can use it to mend split ends and flyaways as well. I usually take whatever leftover I have in my palms and rub it onto the ends of my hair – preventing any kind of product wastage! Hey, it’s 100% argan oil meaning no fillers! OF course I cannot afford to waste any of it!

John Masters’ argan oil is also harvested from a women’s cooperative in Morocco, helping to support their local community. I love a product with a good cause!

Come to bed red…

I still cannot seem to get enough of red lipsticks and polishes… As a result, I’m always searching for that perfect shade of red. In the world of nail lacquers, I think I’ve found it – it’s called Come to bed red…

I was lucky enough to receive some amazing products from Fresh Faced the other day and I am still swooning over all the products! Their selection is amazing as I have previously mentioned here. While I’ll be guest posting on their site about all of these products, I thought, why not share a couple of highlights on each of them here as well?

Before I digress too much, let’s chat about this polish. Come to Bed Red is a gorgeously vibrant red that I think would flatter most skin tones. Let me tell you, ever since the day I discovered Butter London polishes, I’ve been smitten. They glide on smoothly producing an instantly even colour with high shine. All of their polishes are also ’3 free’ meaning that they do not contain harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde, toluene, or DBP (phthalates).

Oh yeah, and don’t forget to pull off the square cap first. With my first Butter London polish, I made the mistake of trying to twist the square cap. I was met with some resistance, so I twisted it harder and then the square lid cracked. I was so upset! Anyway, I know better now. The square cap is not functional – it really is there to just sit and look pretty!
