How's your summer guys and girls?
I will try to organise mine (and autumn too) to see some of you, but cannot promise anything more than doing my best...

Paris break in the beginning of June was great, and definitely boosted my engines for the last bits of the thesis (thanks Francois and Claire, thanks airbnb.com). I'll try to update my picasa with these pics, and if I will, there definitely will be some more too.

If it comes to more news from my side it seems like I'll stay in London for another year, so please plan your holidays accordingly ;)

my father and me - me being a fan! (the performance of the Finnish javelin throwers was quite poor though - the Norwegian guy looked better anyway!)

(Most of the photos were taken by my parents whose camera is much much better than mine.)

This was a wonderful world championship and although the stadium was quite empty especially in the beginning, the atmosphere was just amazing and we were very lucky with the weather. What an absolutely great week!

These are some photos I just found on my computer. I took them a couple of weeks ago, on the day of the Fête de la Musique, when we were on our way to the next stage.
The result was: we didn't reach the stage because the apocalypse caught us before we could get there. We were soaking wet and no taxi stopped for us. But the light was great!

Life's strange

I've got a story for you my friends. A short story about life - how strange it is and how sudden changes it brings.

Two days ago I've spent whole day in Katowice (the nice rainy city where Phil concert was held, you remember Adam :) ) looking for a job. My point was really to find a job there, so I did my best to prepare portfolio (print it out in a nice folder and pack into selfmade cardboard box), went without any previous note and tried to reach heads of all the offices I was applying. I didn't contact them earlier, cause I didn't want to say I'm looking for a job, as I'd finish then as one of hundreds waiting for response and I didn't send portfolio via mail either, as in my opinion personal contact would be best way to convince them to hire me.

And probably it would be like that, if I'd manage to reach at least one of the architects in charge. I didn't. After visiting one of best polish offices placed in this region od Poland (some of them been really well designed) I came back home completely exhausted and mentally wasted. I took a shower and ate supper.

Then my phone rung and it occured that in 5 minutes I've got to decide if I want and I'm able to move to London for a month to work on one of latest competitions won by office of the lady at the top. Wasn't so easy, but I said yes. I had to rearrange all my plans for the forthcoming month, some of them really important to me, but I hope everything will end up well. It has to.

So that's the story. Story about life's jokes, when you cannot find a job in your own country, and suddenly you finish on a contract in one of the best practices all over. Story about the architecture student's life, about the moment when he becomes a bitch, that's able to leave everything and within 3 days move to the other country to work his ass off for a well known boss. To get this short note to your resume, that you worked for him/her, to be still able to find a job in your own country.

But I'm curiuos. Maybe even a bit anxious.

If you're out in Kreuzberg on the 1st of May, you can choose between throwing stones against the policemen or just having some nice party on the streets. We went for the latter one and spent our day and night eating, drinking, dancing and catching a lot of sun.

the flat government (president Peter Kronavetter and vice president Adam Holicska) has accepted the new refurbishment plans for the balcony, to fulfill the needs of the forthcoming summer.

yesterday, the first phase of the long-term development has been finished, the new mobile, hanging table and the first orange colored chair is officially ready. everyone is welcome for a drink or a smoke :D

oh, the pictures were taken in the evening, we have a little trick with the light, the last two pictures reveal the magic ;)

last week we had a huge social event here, the biggest critical mass of europe (at least the organizers say :) ) it was my first time this year, usually everybody cancels in the last minutes... anyway, it is really fun to conquer back the streets from the 'car that eats our town'. we had a 12 km run around the downtown, including the erzsébet bridge (the biggest, all 6 lanes blocked) and the alagút (the tunnel next to lánchíd, on the video), with the traditional 'bike lift' at the end. if true, 30000 biker took part in this demonstration.

on the pictures from top to bottom, the tunel aka. alagút with a little traffic jam of bikes :) and the police cars closing the convoy and making some noise with all the sirens, it was really fun... the chain bridge on two pictures, the run on the andrássy út on one, and our magnificent bike-composition and the bike lift on the last two... oh, and the yards on the video...

Hello my Friends.
I think I owe you some words after this long period without even a gentle noise. So basically, as all of you I guess I've been quite busy (and still am) with this theater competition, few comissions, some identity projects for friends that try to start with club, hairdresser and concept store at one spot and of course ultimate - my new love :) So, from the beginning. This Tuesday we've been to Warsaw for the announcement of the final results of The New Theater competion. I could recognise few of the most important polish architects, actors and even minister of culture at the conference. And that's all. We got honourable mention, which shoulg mean that among final 10 works, our finished as fifth (but as some of the spots have been given ex aequo prize, having honourable mention, we've finished about tenth place). Judgement of jury about on our work was saying sth like "the beauty of architecture took over reasonable functional diagram", so basically oldschool architects with 50 people under kicked ass 2 students from Łódź. But in the same time we kicked over 100 polish and european asses, so basically we're satisfied. Right now starts really big competition for The National History Museum of Poland and if it's going to be prepared as well as the theater competition (and looks as it's going to be even better - Moneo, Souto de Moura, Dalnoky in the jury), if you only have a chance, participate in it. This way, maybe we can have our own contest - would be really cool. So that's almost everything about architecture, cause there's one more thing that's inside my head right now - my diploma :) Till now I know, that it should end up as common house with exhibition spaces to animate the lil' bit forgotten district. There's 2,5 month left, and I'm not sure if I'll make it, but it's gonna be fun anyway.

The other thing I do besides architecture (and sometimes it even starts to take over) is ultimate. Right now we play almost 2 tournaments a month, what means leaving Łódź on Friday, going to other polish city (or Vienna, or Pilsen like this year) and coming back on Sunday night totally exhausted but always with a smile. And after some months when our team was usually closing the final stands table, sun has risen also for us - we've got historically best 4th place on the last tournament of polish championships, and finally after joining one of Warsaw teams, we've won 4th place in Vienna on one of the biggest central european ultimate tournaments. And as playing ultimate mean lots of travelling, in a week we're going to play in Warsaw (first polish outdoor tournament) and on the weekend 1-3rd of May, we're coming to Berlin, hellyeah! Springtime on grassfields of Berlin!

And the last thing I'd like to share with you, is a bit connected to the previous post on this site. Seems as we're going to have small reunion in Paris at the end of May :) I'm moving for the last workshops as a student, I guess, to Lille, for a week and afterwards to Paris, where both Maries will be waiting for me with baguettes, croissants and frogs :) And beeing in Paris, means seeing Francois, Luc and Jean Nouvel. Awesome!

I just wanted to show you the wonderful new toy the facility manager (!!!!) of our house brought me (he's a friend of mine now), I hope you're jealous, aaaaand I wanted to tell you I finally passed the exam I failed before I went to Budapest last year. Whow this feels really great.
I rewarded myself with their new album. Watch the video! It's BRILLIANT.

it is me again :) i'm trying hard to speed up yourfriends, so here you go, some pictures about our trip to switzerland.

the story is that we decided to take a little break before we get stuck in an office for ever :D we visited some friends who work in lugano and visp, and had a little bit of everything; skiing, resting and (of course) visiting some pieces of architecture. that is it for today, i have a lot to do, but i think i will tell you more probably later. until that, enjoy the photos...

as some of you've already heard, i'm done with university too. so, i have a very important thing to do, to flood myfriends with images of the work i did in the last months :D probably not as interesting as winning real competitions, but this is what we have...

so my project was a combined function of a warehouse and exhibition spaces for paintings of one of the biggest museums in budapest. the building supposed to work as a fresh and lively place instead of a regular fine art museum, so you can organize whole sorts of activities in the exp spaces, as well as letting people into the otherwise hidden depot spaces. the structure is built upon the idea that the two series of spaces bend around each other and around a central core that actually supports the whole building's mass. this contrast of functional and artistic values appear on a lot of levels, for example the materials. concrete on the inside, and a perforated, bent metal cover with a pattern of the old painting frames on the outside.

i've got some really nice critics, from architects i really respect, so yesterday was a happy day for me. hope you enjoy it too. keep up, guys, hope to see you soon...

oh, and ps, peti's going to finish on friday, so now put fingers crossed for him.

voilà voilà...
first experiments for the Garden competition of Chaumont-sur-Loire, that we won some time ago with friends. Stuf was about designing a garden, that has to be realised for the Festival, lasting from April to October. We were here building prototypes of the furniture we designed.
(looks stupid, yup. but that made us win...)
Next step is in two weeks, preparing the site and then end of March, putting the plants...
