The Minister’s actions follow the Ministry of Health cancelling the contracting of Parklands, a residential provider from South Auckland.
“I have also asked the panel to review the Ministry’s handling of historical complaints about Parklands back to 2001,” says Mr Ryall.

The Government will provide $92 million over four years to pay carers who look after their own disabled adult family members with high or very high needs, Health Minister Tony Ryall says.
This is in response to the Court of Appeal’s decision in Ministry of Health v Atkinson and others.
“Our society expects parents to care for and support their dependent children,” Mr Ryall says. “But the Court of Appeal ruled that this ‘social contract’ does not extend to continuing to care for adult sons and daughters who have a lifelong disability.

Tony Ryall | Health

Hawke’s Bay Hospital is to get its long awaited new mental health facility – marking a big step forward for the district’s mental health services.
Health Minister Tony Ryall announced the go-ahead for the project today, which will cost up to $22 million and replace an ageing facility that is no longer fit for purpose.
“The current mental health facilities in Hawke’s Bay are challenging and while staff have done an extraordinary job in such a constrained environment, an upgrade is overdue,” Mr Ryall says.

The government is committed to improving waiting times for patients, and in the past four years there has been a big increase in the number of MRI and CT scans performed on patients staying in public hospitals.
Health Minister Tony Ryall says data from the Ministry of Health shows over 25,000 more vital MRI and CT diagnostic scans have been performed on inpatients under this Government.

Tony Ryall | Health

Good morning.
Thank you for inviting me today to celebrate the opening of your new hospital and specialist centre, co-located here on site at the Wairau Public Hospital, Blenheim.
This is a very good arrangement. We have private investment, public land and infrastructure, and a good outcome for patients.
Firstly, I'd like to acknowledge some of the people who have been instrumental in making this happen:
My Parliamentary colleague and National MP for Kaikoura, Colin King
DHB Chair, Ms Jenny Black
