The Whole Truth

I've been trying to figure out what to say in this post for weeks now. Do I share the whole truth with you or do I just say "sorry I've been absent from the blog for months" and move on from there. You have been with me for a while and you've seen/read my many ups and downs in life and I thought that you deserved to know the whole truth. It's a hard thing to come to terms with but once I admitted it to myself and recognized the problem it made it easier for me to try and get better. The past few months I have been severely depressed. I didn't realize how depressed I was until the day I told my mother that I finally got a new job. Her reply to me will always echo in my mind. She said, "Is that why I finally see a smile on your face that I haven't seen in months."

I never realized how much a job could affect ones mood, spirit, and personality. Things I loved to do and work on (like the blog) felt like the biggest chore in the world. When I first started my day job I loved it. I loved the people I worked with, the environment, and my boss. He was a man of few words but when he spoke I learned a lot of valuable lessons. But after a few months in the position my boss was asked to step down (health reasons) and I got a new boss. I was very hesitant at first about this transition but told myself to give it a year. I made it 9 months but every day was worse than the last. Every morning I had to talk myself into getting ready; I had to physically make myself drive to work and keep from turning around and heading home; my eyes were constantly twitching from the stress; all I wanted to do was eat and sleep; and whenever this new boss walked in to the office I would get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. I was good at putting on a front for a while but a situation like this takes a lot out of you.

9 weeks ago I accepted a new position and when this happened it was like a fire was ignited in me and I woke up. I am now realizing that because of this depression pieces of my life had fallen that I never meant to let go. I bought my first house and should have been over the moon with excitement. I never in a million, billion years could have imagined owning my own place and it was always a dream that I thought was unattainable. Instead of being excited about the house all I wanted to do was lie on the couch and hide. I pushed the blog and some friendships to the side; my eating habits got a little out of control; and the house became this burden and chore that I needed to work on but no longer was excited about-I didn’t even want to move in!

Since I started my new position and found that spark that was once gone I’m slowly picking up the pieces and putting my life back together. Getting back to "me" will be process that will take some time but I'm ready. Every day I'm a little happier than the day before and I now find myself wanting to get up and go to work. I finally moved into my house and am having so much fun decorating and putting the finishing touches on it; I started to exercise again and started to eat a little healthier; and I’m trying to reach out to friends again. Writing this post is actually proving to myself how much I've grown in the past few weeks. I would have never been able to share all of this with you then.

The last piece that I need to fix is the blog but this leaves me confused. Because of the house I no longer have money to spend on new "on trend" pieces. I can't even afford new shoes! Instead I've been trying to rework items in my closet that you have already seen on the blog. My readership has gone WAY down and the sponsors I once had have moved on to the next blogger. I'm torn with the decision to keep this blog or finally let it rest in peace. The question I keep asking myself is would readers want to see me wearing and styling items they can no longer get their hands on, and will they get tired of seeing the same pieces over and over. It's a decision that I'm struggling to answer so I thought I should just go slow with the blog and treat it as a diary for myself. It might continue to be about fashion or it might take a whole new direction. I might post every day or I might just post once a week. I have to do what feels right for me.

I don't want you to think I'm telling you all of this for hope of a pity party. I in no way want a pity party. Over the past few months I've had many people ask me what happened to the blog or what was going on with me. So I am telling you all of this because I think you deserve to know the whole, unsugar coated, truth. I also want those who might be feeling a little depressed or not quite like themselves to know that they are not alone. You hear me? You are not alone and you are not the only one who gets depressed! Life happens and sometimes people aren't as strong as they would like and they fall. What is important is to pick yourself up, brush yourself off, and start trying to move forward.
Life will go on.

A bright top covered with flowers is the perfect way to remind myself that Spring is soon approaching. We finally had a break in the snow and the temperatures warmed up enough that I could shed the heavy sweaters and wear a top that was a light and airy. Matching it with these fun cap toe wedges and a purple purse was a great way to pull colors from the shirt. Wearing brighter colors, especially with shoes, is something I'm trying to do more of. I feel that I always stick with my basic black and brown footwear and never venture into colors. There are so many great colored shoe options out there that make me excited and my bank account cringe.

This Geo Print dress from London Times Fashion had me from the start. The colors are perfect to transition from Winter (navy and black) to Spring (mint and white) and there are so many different ways you could dress it up and down that make the possibilities endless. I wanted to keep the outfit simple this time with a classic white blazer and structured satchel from Handbag Heaven to help the colors the main focus. I can't wait to pair this with a jean jacket and summery wedges for Spring.

Visit Yourself

Taking two weeks off from blogging was not planned at all. From day one of starting this blogging journey I always promised myself that if I ever got to the point where I hated blogging and wasn’t happy I would stop doing it. With working 40+ hours a week and trying to remodel and move into a new house, things got a little chaotic and stressful. I found that on the weekend I always wanted to be working on the house but yet felt guilty for not doing anything for the blog. I was then in this constant battle of being upset that I was feeling guilty working on my house and was constantly torn about the future of this blog. I have always felt that it is super important to be happy with yourself and your life. Truth is I wasn’t happy and every time I thought about the blog I got sick which is why I took a step back. I didn’t want to fill the space of my blog with halfhearted posts in order to just have something new posted that day. Instead I wanted to give myself time to enjoy the new adventure that I was starting in my life without guilt. It’s hard to find the perfect way to balance everything in my life but I’m trying to adjust.

To be honest, I still don’t know the future of my blog. It’s been such a huge part of my life and I cannot imagine not continuing it. This blog has brought me so much joy, friendships, and laughter over the past years. I just want to continue to enjoy doing it. As I learn to adjust I just hope you will continue to support me. Please know that I will always value and am forever grateful for each of your love and support. With all this said, I will see you tomorrow with new posts.

Table Decisions

I'm a very visual person and looking into a blank empty space with bare white walls makes it hard for me to put a room together. I have an inspiration and photo that I'm trying to work around which was a help when it came to choosing wall colors (although I still can't pick which grey to paint).

I purchased a dark grey couch with light grey pillows, a purple chaise lounge, and the two printed chairs shown above. The problem I'm having now is trying to decide which table to buy for between the two chairs. It won't hold much, just flowers, books, and maybe a few other little gems. I wanted it to be something fun and different. I have narrowed it down to these 8 (the list was enormous) but still can't decide. Will you help me?

Who Can You Laugh At?

If you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at?

I love going back through old post photos and seeing how much of a fool I act when I'm in front of the camera. No matter whose taking the photos (usually my niece) there is always at least one photo of me either directing, dancing, singing, talking to someone else, sneezing, or just being silly. I feel that if you can't laugh at yourself and see the humor in things that who can you laugh at? "Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive." So instead of getting frustrated or upset when something doesn't go your way, find the humor in it and laugh. Laughter is the best medicine. Or you can just laugh at my silly out takes.

Pillow Talk

I've mentioned this on twitter but never fully came and announced it on the blog...ready? I bought a house! That's right, the girl who lives with her parents finally bought a house and is moving out! Hopefully this explains why my blogging has slacked a little. Every waking moment when I'm not at work I've been thinking, planning, shopping, and working on the house. So instead of the usually Food Friday posts I thought I'd start sharing with you posts about the house.

It's so much fun to dream a vision and then make it happen. The house is almost ready for me to move in which means my home shopping has been kicked into high gear. I want my place to be simple and chic but yet have all the accessories fun and witty. For my family room I made t his photo I took last year the main art piece. I then purchased a sleek grey couch, purple chaise lounge, and two purple floral accent chairs for the room as well. Since most of the furniture is solid I wanted to add some fun and visual pillows into the room. Here are a few that I've been looking at:

Since I work in a professional office I spend most of my week in dress pants, skirts, and heels which means by the time the weekend rolls around I'm ready to dress low key and comfortable. This past weekend, however, I decided to take one of my office sweaters and dress it down instead of up by layering it over a comfortable plaid shirt. It's important to get the most out of your wardrobe. Look at those pieces you only wear to the office or church and try to wear them more casual in a different way.

When I saw this Graphic Print shift dress on London Times Fashion the other day I instantly fell in love with the bold print and neon colors mixed with classic black and white. When this Ann Taylor necklace arrived the other day and I excitedly pulled it out of the box my mom looked at me puzzled. She questioned where I was going to wear such a fancy statement necklace to. Where wouldn't I wear this gorgeous necklace? I don't think gorgeous statement necklaces like this should be reserved for special, fancy occasions. Every day in my mind is a special day and deserves a touch of sparkles. A few days later I wore this outfit for an afternoon of with my mom. When she say my outfit she actually complimented on how nice the statement necklace looked when dressed down. So instead of saving those jewels for a special occasion wear them today with lounge pants or to the grocery store with a sweater. Every day is special so make a statement where ever you go.

Bold & Bright Winter

I know it's been a few weeks since I've blogged and I'm sorry I left you all so abruptly. Sometimes life gets crazy and you can't remember which way is up. Between a busy work schedule and busy weekends working on the new house, my blogging sadly got pushed to the side and I'm sorry. I missed blogging and I missed all of you. Now that it's January and the holidays are over I can't help but think about the Spring 2013 fashion color trends report from Pantone. There are so many fun and vibrant colors on the chart this year but one that I think is going to make a huge impact is emerald green. The color is so rich and luxurious feeling that you can't help but want to wear it. Pair it with mint green for a fun spring look, or wear it now with a deep eggplant purple or royal blue for a warm winter feel. Every year since I can remember I have always spent New Years Eve out with friends at either a bar, restaurant, or some random party. I would dress up in something new and fancy and wear sky high heels only to be tired with sore feet the next day. This year I wanted to ring in the New Year a different way...at home with the people who matter the most. Since I always saved some money to splurge on a new and fancy NYE outfit I thought I would still do just that but only spend it on a different type of outfit. This year I took that money and went to Aerie for the perfect lounge outfit which I then topped off with a cozy cardigan and a sparkly necklace. I have to admit that this New Years Eve in with my family playing board games, eating delicious food, being warm and comfortable and bonding closer together was a perfect way to ring in a new and exciting year.

Blessed New Year

From tears and fears to laughter and courage this year has truly felt like I was riding a roller-coaster. Not only have I grown more over this past year than any year before but I feel that I have learned a lot about the person I am and who I want to be in the future. I visited places I never thought would be possible to visit. Met some truly amazing people and bloggers, some who I know I will have in my life forever. I also started a new chapter in my life by purchasing my first house. And through each step of this roller-coaster year you have all continuously supported my site, shared this blog with your friends, and encouraged me to be a better person. I am and will forever be unbelievably thankful for your friendship, love, and encouragement.

May the New Year bring joy, peace, and happiness to you and your entire family.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas celebration. My Christmas this year was completely perfect from the family filled house, pajama wearing days and nights, board/card game marathons, tables filled of yummy food, and to top it all off it was a white Christmas. I wasn't planning on taking the whole week off from blogging but when your surrounded by the ones you love and cherish it's hard to not feel guilty when turning on the internet.

With 2012 coming to an end today I can't help but look back over the past year and feel so blessed. So many good things have happened and so much has changed {like losing 8 inches from my hair!} with this blog. I feel that each month not only has my blog grown but I have grown and evolved as a person and you all are to thank for that. A look at a few of my favorite outfit photos.

Food Friday: Apple Kielbasa Coins

There are some recipes in my box that I have had forever, like this Apple Kielbasa Coin recipe. I got the recipe at my first job 8 years ago. We were having a potluck lunch and my coworker brought in this delicious, sweet, sticky and addicting snack. I instantly requested the recipe and since then every Christmas Eve this has been a staple for my families Christmas Eve gathering. My sister who doesn't like maple syrup or the smell of maple loves this dish! It's a fairly quick and easy dish to make. I usually cut up the kielbasa the day before so it's done and ready to be cooked.

Over the years and after making these Apple Kielbasa Coins numerous times I've changed the recipe a bit to get the perfect dish. I could never find kielbasa in an exact pound so I always added a little extra meat which meant the rest of the recipe had to change a little. I use a large pan to cook these in and I add more apple juice than it originally called for. I wanted to make sure that each little coin was covered and cooked. You use the a version of the original recipe to make this dish or you can print my version.

   1/4-inch slices
   2/3 cup apple juice
   1/4 cup apple jelly
   2 tablespoons maple syrup

Directions:
In a large skillet, bring sausage and apple juice to a boil.
Cover and cook for 5 minutes.
Uncover and cook 5 minutes longer.
Drain.
Add jelly and syrup; cook and stir until jelly is melted and sausage is coated.
{I usually turn off the burner and let it sit on the stove for a few minutes so the sauce thickens.}

I would be lying if I said I haven't been constantly wearing this tank top. Since Cuddl Duds sent it to me it has been worn and washed more times than any other new piece of clothing I have. I was surprised at how incredibly soft, comfortable and easy to wear it is. This tank makes for the perfect layering piece and it keeps you incredibly warm. I hate bothering with coats when out shopping at stores but was a little afraid I would be cold with this thin sweater. Layering this Cuddl Duds tank underneath kept me nice a toasty the whole day.

During the holiday season not only are we're all shopping for friends and family but our family and friends are shopping for us. Each Christmas my mother asks us each to create a wish list online. Can you believe I've had these shoes for almost 2 months and have never worn them?! I actually completely forgot about them until this gorgeous Oasis top arrived in the mail. This wine/oxblood color reminded me of the pumps and I knew they would go perfectly together. I just wasn't sure how a matching colored shirt and shoes would work but I think it's quite striking with the darker blue jeans. Makes the color of the top and shoes really stand out. Also, how amazing is this necklace from Outrage Fashion. They so kindly sent it to me for Christmas and I've been constantly wearing it and receiving lots of compliments. It's definitely a notice me piece of jewelry.
