Hello My Lovelies,

I'm sorry I haven't been posting much lately! My life has taken an unexpected yet pleasant turn. I've been able to spend more time in the village where my mom is from Colonias, New Mexico. I've been spending a few days each week out there, one day each week volunteering at a thrift shop called Passion For Fashion, and one day working at Antiques and Things. I spend the weekends with my little girl.

In addition, I posted awhile back about how my new house was really lacking in the art studio department, which unfortunately hasn't been very inspiring. I have made some improvements to my craft studio's organization, and I've made a few things here and there, kept my planner looking fabulous and fun, but otherwise....meh. I do post some of the things that I've been doing on Instagram and Tumblr so, for quick updates, please keep track of me there.

Because I want to spend at the ranch, but I also need to make money, I decided to take a job working for some dear friends in the awesome town of Las Vegas, New Mexico. (Here's another cool link about Las Vegas) I will post another article that shows why I love this town so much. Basically all of the buildings and homes are historic because "back in the day" they couldn't afford to tear them down. What an amazing twist of fate! The town's poverty has preserved its Wild West history - and I love that!

Anyway, back to The Llano. I'd like to share a few photos of Colonias, New Mexico and surrounding areas. I have always loved this part of New Mexico. As a child I never wanted to leave and I always planned on retiring there. When you're driving out it looks pretty bland and boring, but when you drive off to the North, the roads take you down in canyons, or up onto mesas.

I love thistles, and though they are a nuisance, I remind myself each time that they are edible!

We call this hill La Questa because it used to be treacherous when it was dirt, and it still can be when it snows

These next set of photos were taken on July 4th, 2009, before and after a huge rain storm that we had. Water is so precious!

Sweet Cupcake Cards

Hello My Sweets!

In my last post I went through my favorite items in the latest Stampin Up Catalog and one of my favorites was the Sweet Cupcake Bundle.

In this post I will show you how I made this lovely card:

I used some retired Stampin Up paper and cards that I had on hand, but you can use literally ANY coordinating paper set for this project.

I first started with my stamp and dies set. You will also need a Big Shot Machine

I also decided to use these pretty (retired) Spellbinders Nestabilities Majestic Circles, but you can also use these Layering Circle Framelits Dies instead.

I've selected these 3 colors for the frosting part of the cupcake: Summer Sun (#1), Archival Brilliance Pearlescent Orange (#2), and Watermelon Wonder (#3).

The idea is to use the lightest color on the stamp that covers the most area 1st, medium goes 2nd, and darkest goes 3rd.

I've selected these 3 colors for the cup part of the cupcake: Creamy Caramel (#1), Tip Top Taupe (#2), and Close To Cocoa (#3)

I will also be using my Misti Stamping Tool to help create perfect stamped images every time, and to help line up the stamps properly

Here's a shot of me using my Misti Stamping Tool with the 3rd whipped cream stamp.

And here's the finished whipped cream stamped image

Next I took my image over to my Big Shot Machine to cut the whipped cream out using the corresponding whipped cream die

After that I started stamping the cup part of the cupcake. Here is what it looks like after the 1st, lightest ink is stamped

Here's a photo of the 2nd, medium colored ink

And here's what it looks like after the 3rd, darkest ink

I took it over to the Big Shot Machine to cut it out using the corresponding die

Then I decided to use the Sweet die and the banner die that is included in this set.

I cut out 2 banners and stamped the darker one with the sentiment "The Best Things In Life Are"

The banner die has little slits which I assumed are for the die cut words to be inserted in. My Big Shot Machine machine didn't cut the slits so I took some scissors to the lighter colored banner that I had cut out.

Next I cut out 2 nesting circles, using different prints of coordinating paper.

Here's a photo of the smaller circle.

Here is what it looks like before I adhere everything.

I ran out of the card stock that I used when making the initial card so I used this card stock instead...for a different look.

Then I decided to flip over the larger circle, because the print on the other side was really pretty...

I couldn't decide which one to use!!!!

So I decided to put it up for a vote on Facebook

Here's a shot of the inside of the card.

I used Tip Top Taupe and Watermelon Wonder.

The sentiment says "The Best Things In Life Are Sweet,

And You're One of the Sweetest. Happy Birthday"

Here's a photo of the finished product. "A" won!

Stampin Up 2016 - 2017 Catalog

Hello everyone!

I've been totally slacking in the blog post department and I'm sorry. I have been keeping my Instagram and Facebook pages somewhat up-to-date, so please follow me there as well.

It has been months since the release of the Stampin Up 2016 - 2017 catalog and I'd like to share what I consider to be the highlights of the catalog.

I love the cover - very crafty!

Categories on the 1st page.

I think this really helps break it down for people who are new to SU.

An explanation of the different styles of stamps.

My personal favorites are the Photopolymer stamps. They're the only ones I ever buy now but that is a personal preference.

All of the colors. Maybe I'm biased but the Stampin Write Markers are my absolute favorite water based markers on the market today. I like them because they are re-fillable and they have both a fine point tip as well as a brush tip. They're great for journaling because they won't bleed through the pages.

Kits! They have now released pre-packaged All-Inclusive Craft Kits!

It makes it easy for beginners to paper crafting to get started with a very small investment.

Designer Tin Of Cards Project Kit - This kit comes in a tin!

Now on to my specific favorites!

I'm not sure why but I love llamas!

They are just so cute - which makes me partial to this Birthday Fiesta Bundle. Plus, as a New Mexican, the southwestern desert motif is totally relevant.

Biggest Birthday Ever Bundle - I like this set because it comes with coordinating dies and it is also very versatile. You can use it to make pennant banners as well.

The Sweet Cupcake Bundle - I absolutely LOVE this set! I ended up adding this one to my kit and I will be doing a blog post to show you the cards that I made using this set. You can get a sneak peek on my Instagram page

Balloon Celebration Stamp set with matching Balloon Bouquet Punch.

Again - so versatile! Plus any time I don't have to fussy cut I'm happy.

Build a Birthday Stamp Set - I really like the little cake plate.

Note: you can get the same style of cake and candles by using different patterns and lengths of Washi Tape

Weather Together Bundle - Again, I love that it comes with coordinating dies!

No fussy cutting here!

Foxy Friends Bundle - Have I mentioned that I'm obsessed with woodland creatures? Well, I am. I love them all...foxes, raccoons, bears, deer, rabbits, hedgehogs, owls, etc. Love love love <3

So yes, I added this suite to my kit as well.

Seriously. How adorable is this?

Baby Bear Photopolymer Stamp Set - I'm a huge fan of the multi-part stamp system, which uses several stamps for 1 unique image to create a stamped image that is almost photo realistic with very little effort.

Always An Adventure Bundle - This speaks to my forest creature obsession as well as my disdain for fussy cutting. Plus you can very easily create a detailed mountain camping scene.

Bear Hugs Bundle - Once again, I've added this sweet bundle to my kit, and I immediately used it to make some ADORABLE paper clips for my planner, which you can see on my Instagram page.

Feather Together Stamp Set - this is a 5-part stamp, which creates an AMAZING multi-colored stamped image.

Picture Perfect Stamp Set - I have also added this set to my kit and I am SO looking forward to making a beautiful card using the hummingbird stamps.

In This World Stamp Set - this one appeals to my shabby chic sensibilities.

It is definitely inspired by some of the Tim Holtz Cling Mount Stamps.

Summer Sorbet Stamp Set - Here's another stamp set that is very modern and trendy. I especially love the hot air balloon, but that's mostly because I can envision myself making lots of cute cards for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

Project Life by Stampin Up - I'm a HUGE fan of Memory Keeping aka Project Life. Stampin Up Project Life makes it so easy to beautifully preserve your most precious memories.

All you need to get started is an album, photo pocket pages, and Project Life card collection. Then just have your favorite photos printed and put the photos and the cards in the pocket pages.

Boom! Done! Simple.

Annual Rubber Stamp Show Part 3

Hello My Lovelies,

Today I am finishing up a 3 part series on the Rubber Stamp Show. I could have dragged this out a little longer by dividing this post up into 2 but I figured I'd go ahead and get 'er done.

See part 1 and part 2 for more photos.

First up we have Ellentina Cutting Dies. I don't remember a whole lot about this vendor except that they had a lot of dies. When I looked them up online it seems that this is more of a wholesale company, and that they don't have their own website.

Next is Our Daily Bread Designs

My favorite thing about their booth was their Steampunk display

Awesome idea board!

Rubbernecker Stamps had an amazing selection of Floral Watercolor stamps

Look at these examples! Gorgeous.

Next is Art Impressions

I was really impressed with their watercolor images

They were doing a live demonstration but they also have some videos on YouTube

I absolutely LOVED this raccoon stamp and die set.

How cute!?!?

Seriously...look at these examples. Adorable!

I fell in love with their Halloween stamp display

LOVE these examples!

How sweet is that?

The illustrations are really top notch

You can't tell from the photo but they used Glossy Accents on the bats to give this example dimension

Next is a local (New Mexican) company called Stamp A Mania

They demonstrated a GORGEOUS embossing technique.

Here are some examples.

They use multiple colors of glitter embossing powder and sprinkle them on, starting with the outside portion of the stamp, or one side of the stamp, and working their way through the whole image.

I tried to take a video but didn't actually film ANYTHING! Ugh.

I'm thinking I'll do a blog post on this technique so you all can see how it is done.

Creations Unlimited was next and they don't have an online presence at all, and their display was very simple...

...but I liked their lace embossing technique.

Here we have another local company Guadalupe's Fun Rubber Stamps

I loved their calavera stamps <3

In addition to the fun stamps, they also sold other art supplies, like these bags of vintage ephemera

I bought an issue of Somerset Studio - swoon!!! <3 <3 <3

I also bought this Daily Sketch Journal and a Mini Gelli Plate

I really want to use it as an art journal

I'm really excited about it

Oh, I also liked this Mica Spray by Ranger and Wendy Vecchi and they also had some by Dina Wakley

The last vendor was Morning Star Stamps

My favorite part of their display was these cute little favor boxes

I also really liked their coffee and tea dies

and they had a really cute Halloween favor box display.

Annual Rubber Stamp Show Part 2

Hello all!

Here is Part 2 of the Annual Rubber Stamp Show! Read part 1 here. As I mentioned in my last post I am sharing my favorite items from each booth.

Here is the Stampland booth - I LOVE their style!

I'm a big fan of Victorian ephemera and what not.

Fainting couches...oh the days when women would LITERALLY pass out from oxygen deprivation from wearing those infernal corsets.

I'm a big fan of Art Deco and fairies too <3

They were doing a really cool demonstration that anyone could do if they have a Big Shot machine using pretty much any die.

In the demonstration that I saw, she was showing us how to use the positive and negative die cuts to create shadows and texture.

I just loved all of the ink on her fingers

She uses brushes and essentially paints with dye ink pads.

Some of her completed samples. I tried to get better photos but there were several people crowding around to watch and I didn't want to butt in!

I was able to find a YouTube Video of one of her demonstrations on one of my favorite vlogger's YouTube channel. Be sure to check it out!

Next is Close To My Heart which is a company that sells plastic photo sheets that enable you to add on to a basic plastic photo album sheet to create a fold-out story that saves space in a photo album.

They are also an in-home party company, like Stampin Up. Unfortunately, you can't shop online.

I LOVE Craft Fantastic! This is a local Albuquerque company that has everything you need to make gorgeous jewelry using any image you want.

I learned about them one year when my friend Mia and I won a bundle of supplies at the Lovelace Women's Hospital Girls Night out. They've started teaching classes to show you how to use their products.

Lovely!

Next up - Waffle Flower! I am proud to say that I am an affiliate and I love their designs. I ended up buying some adorable Spring/Easter stamps and dies.

They have planner stamps too! <3

I almost bought the succulent stamps and dies sets...

Annual Rubber Stamp Show Part 1

Hello Precious Readers,

I originally wanted to post this article last Saturday night but I have been so busy this week! My mom is visiting from out of town and our schedules have been full. Anyway, here it is! The photos from the Annual Rubber Stamp show that takes place every year in Albuquerque at the Expo New Mexico State Fairgrounds. I snapped several photos of each vendor that was there, as well as my favorite items in each booth.

First we have The Paper Cut. Big booth...lots of supplies!

This was my favorite display of theirs - Pop Up Box Card kits

Next I looked at Stamp On It from Michigan

I loved these clear printed acetate sheets. I should have taken better photos of the cards that they made using them. They were beautiful!

A Nice Cuppa Distressed Card

Hello all,

I just finished recording a video to upload to YouTube that shows how I made this cute card. Then I realized afterward that it was just not up to par! (boo) So, I decided to just write a quick blog post instead.

It was one of those projects that didn't go as planned and I just had to tweak it to make it work. But that's how I like it...just roll with the punches. Anyhoo, here's the card and below are the links to the items used to make it.

Craft Space Update

Hello my lovelies,

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile, we've been moving.

You may remember some of my Craft Studio posts, in which I showed photos of my studio space in the house that we were renting in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque. It was so lovely and spacious...sigh...

I had room enough for 9 people to sit and work!

Well, the good news is my house in Downtown Albuquerque finally sold so I was able to buy a nicer newer (and smaller) house in the North Valley of Albuquerque.

The bad news is my craft room now looks like this

I would probably be one of those tiny house people if it weren't for all of my craft supplies

Not sure what I'm going to do with my paper packs (the bags on the floor)

I did manage to find this awesome bookshelf! It's really tall and spacious

And it's made out of old shutter doors <3

In addition to its size, I'm also sharing my craft space with this eyesore

...must find a way to cover those pipes that doesn't cost a fortune!

I'd love to put some cabinetry up there that would serve as storage for my cleaning supplies, as well as cover those water heater pipes. Hopefully soon.

I'm just going to keep chipping away at my mess and hopefully I will have it cleaned and organized soon! I have donated quite a bit of supplies to the OffCenter Arts thrift shop, so stop over there for great deals on gently used art materials.

I've also decided to part with some of my favorite vintage and antique things, which I put up for sale at my booth at Antiques and Things, Booth #19. I'm currently having a 50% off sale to boot!

DIY: Mini Pennant Banner

Hello my pretties,

Today I want to share a fun little project with you - how to make a mini pennant banner using a Big Shot (or other die cutting machine), Spellbinders dies, and a sewing machine.

I am using Spellbinders Nested Shapeabilities Dies, Lacey Pennants

with my London Market paper pack

I am using pieces of scrap paper from this pack, which works perfectly because the small dies are really little. So cute! You simply line the dies up, face down.

Put the paper and dies between the two pieces of plastic, on top of the cutting platform, and run them through your Big Shot machine.

Once I cut several little pennant pieces I took them over to my sewing machine.

My tension was set to auto and my stitch length was set to 3 on my Singer Esteem sewing machine.

I pulled enough thread through so that I would have enough to use to tie my banner. I then pushed the first piece of paper up against the presser foot, and lined the paper up using the right edge of the presser foot as the guide.

Grab the left side of the paper to hold it straight and just use the hand crank to run it through the machine.
Do not use the pedal!

Once the paper has cleared the presser foot completely then press another piece of paper against the presser foot and repeat the process.

This is my finished product.

Perfect for using on a scrapbook page, to hang over a framed picture, to hang on a bookshelf, at the top of a mirror, etc. etc. The decorating possibilities are endless.

I've used mine to decorate my miniatures shelf.

I'm super excited to announce that I've teamed up to do a business collaboration with L'Amour Baking Company, an adorable bakery here in Los Ranchos that specializes in French Macaroons.
And let me say - they are delicious!!!! <3 <3 <3

They are definitely my favorite bakery in town, although I may be a bit biased because I can walk to it from my house...

Dyeing Doilies with Alcohol Ink

Hello my lovelies,

I've been on this alcohol ink kick lately, as you've probably guessed based on my previous posts DIY Alcohol Ink and DIY Shimmer Spritz Experiment. Well, here's another!

I have been saving various vintage handkerchiefs and doilies that are stained, intending to do something cool with them. In most cases I can use OxyClean and super hot water to remove any stains, but there are a few that just won't come clean. Recently I decided to experiment with alcohol inks.

Unfortunately, I didn't take photos of my process so I'll just try to explain what I did.

Basically I just decided what pattern I wanted and which colors I wanted to go where.

I used the Wild Plum and Denim, combined with a hot pastel pink one that I made myself.

The Wild Plum is the darker purple color, the one I made myself is the lighter pink, and the blue parts are the denim ink.

I started by dabbing the plum ink just inside of the border, a little at a time, allowing it to bleed and spread.

Then I did the denim on the petals. Last I sprayed the hot pastel pink all over to help facilitate the ink to bleed and move and blend together. I used the inks again to fill in any gaps.

Next, I did the same thing with this one, dabbing the alcohol ink directly from the bottle onto the doily and allowing it to bleed and blend before I added more.

I allowed the doilies to dry completely before I soaked them in boiling water.

In my final step I boiled some water and poured it into a plastic bowl that I didn't care about.

I did the 1st one first and allowed it to soak, stirring occasionally, until the water had completely cooled. I then drained and rinsed it in cold water until the water was mostly clear.

Then, I repeated the process, adding this little round doily to the mix. I realized the 1st time around that I was wasting ink in the heat setting process, and that I could probably be dyeing some more fabric at the same time. I was right. This came out so cute!

I just love how these look! I'm definitely eager to make some more.

DIY Shimmer Spritz Experiment

Hello My Pretties!

I'm pretty excited to show you all how I made these Shimmer Ink Sprays.

I recently went to Tuesday Morning and bought a bottle of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist. It was the only color they had, otherwise I would have bought more.

Only $2.49! I got it home, used it, loved it! Wanted more.

Then I got the bright idea to try to make my own. I've had these Johne Headlights sprays for YEARS. I bought them at the International Beauty Show in New York for something like $1 or $2 per bottle. I never used them because when you spray the glitter, as soon as the liquid dries the glitter falls off.

Lame.

I saved them because I just knew that I would be able to use them for something crafty one day.

(in this photo I had already emptied out 1/2 of the liquid from most of the bottles)

I read the ingredients and it seemed pretty straight forward. It is mostly made of botanicals, glitter, and alcohol.

I decided the best way to go about it would be to empty out 1/2 of the liquid

and add Mod Podge

I wasn't exactly sure how much to add so I started with a little bit, then spritzed it.

If the glitter didn't stick when it dried then I added more Mod Podge.

Here is the before photo of my sample tag.

Keep in mind that I have inked the edges of this tag with a ColorBox Paintbox ink pad to match the stamp.

Here is the after photo. Pretty!

I later got the idea to add some homemade Alcohol Inks to the mix.

These two turned out the best!

Verdict: it works!

To recap, I don't have an actual recipe but the ingredients used are alcohol, glitter, mod podge, and Alcohol Inks - in that order. If I had to, I'd say 60% Alcohol, 15% glitter, 15% mod podge, and 10% alcohol ink.

Keep in mind that $2.49 is not much to pay at all! And if you can find the Glimmer Mists that cheap then buy them! Don't bother making your own. However, in a pinch if you really need some for a late night project then you can easily make your own.
