Rennovations for the new Belton Area Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center have begun. As the Belton Chamber settled into their temporary location (501 E. Central Ave., Belton), crews moved into the Chamber building and began work. Below is a small glimps into what’s happened so far.

No one knows what a military spouse goes through better than another military spouse. For this very reason the Belton Area Military Spouses Support (BAMSS) group was formed. This group is pulling together military spouses to form a network of support for each other when spouses are deployed.

Chamber President Talks Belton with Belton New Tech High Students

Stephanie O’Banion had the privilege of presenting everything Belton to 3 Global Issues Classes at the New Tech High School @ Waskow. Each class is divided into teams and their project is to re-design Belton’s look and slogan. The winning teams will be featuring during a Chamber event, newsletter, and website.

Click below to download the 2012 Leadership Belton Application. The cost is $350 by Aug. 5, 2011 or $400 from Aug. 6-26, 2011.

Leadership Belton is an excellent approach for community leadership training. As a Leadership Belton participant you gain valuable information about your community, see places few people get to see, and have the opportunity to develop strong affiliations with team members and alumni. Everyone is encouraged to become involved.

Employers, community groups and agencies are asked to send willing individuals through the program.

Belton Chamber Presents Patriot Way Brick to LTG Robert W. Cone

On Wednesday, April 20 the Belton Chamber and the City of Belton presented LTG Robert W. Cone with a Patriot Way brick in honor of his friendship and commitment to the Belton Area and for being a voice of calm and comfort after the tragic shootings at Fort Hood in November 2009. Cone was the former Commanding General of III Corps and Fort Hood. He assumed command of Fort Hood and III Corps on September 22, 2009 where he also deployed to Iraq in February 2010, and served as the Deputy Commanding General for Operations, United States Forces – Iraq, until February 2011. LTG Cone handed over command of III Corps and Fort Hood on April 21 to LTG Donald Campbell. Cone has been nominated by President Obama for appointment to the rank of general and assignment as Commanding General, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command. Cone’s change of command will take place on April 28. Previously he served as the Special Assistant to the Commanding General of U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command in Fort Monroe, VA.

Tree Dedication Ceremony

The Belton Area Chamber of Commerce would like to announce the dedication of two trees planted in honor of two very deserving citizens; 2010 Beltonian of the Year recipient, Les Hallbauer and the 2010 Citizen of the Year, Trae Sutton. The ceremony will take place Friday, April 29, 2011 in Heritage Park from 10 a.m. till 10:30 a.m.

Les Hallbauer is receiving the Beltonian award for his longtime service to the Belton area and for often going above and beyond what is expected of him. Trae Sutton was named Citizen of the Year for his volunteer contributions and service to the Belton community.

Both recipients will receive a stone marker at the base of their tree thanking and honoring them for their service to Belton.

The tree planting ceremony originated in 2000 at the request of Team 1 from the Leadership Belton Class of 1999. Members of the team included Greg Pope, Mark Collier and Jerry Samu. The Belton Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has made this an annual event to honor both the Beltonian and the Citizen of the Year.

Mutton Bustin’ Registration Dates Announced

Come grab some fluff and show your stuff at the Mutton Bustin’ event during Belton’s 87th Annual 4th of July PRCA Rodeo July 1 – July 3, 2011. Children ages 4-7 with heights between 42.5″ and 53″ (and not over 55 lbs.) are eligible to ride.

Registration is Saturday, June 11 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Belton Feed & Supply. The entry fee is $20 and only the first 30 children will be entered.

Belton Chamber Welcomes New Team Member

Meet Jennifer Weir, the Belton Chamber’s new Director of Member Relations & Business Marketing. Jennifer enjoys working with the public, as well as Product Presentation. She is excited about the opportunity to work for the Chamber and anticipates the challenge of helping the city grow and expand in all aspects. Her experience in hotel management, marketing, and IT Solutions make her a valuable asset to the team. These skills bring an advantage to reaching and building on the goals of our community.

Jennifer has over 7 years experience in the sales and marketing field, and 10 years experience in managing customer service. She was formally on the Board of Directors for the Salado Chamber of Commerce and Salado Tourism Committee. She is also involved in various community groups to around the Bell County area.

Jennifer is a graduate of Belton High School and has made her residence in Belton for over 30 years. She and her husband Clay, also a graduate of Belton High, have 2 children, Lauren Blair age 12, and Caden Weir age 3. She enjoys spending time with the family and friends, traveling, cooking, and actively helping out in the community.

Belton Chamber LINN Committee Helps Start Military Spouses Support Group

No one knows what a military spouse goes through better than another military spouse. For this very reason the Belton Area Military Spouses Support (BAMSS) group was formed. The idea for this group originated out of a concern raised by Anne Jackson, Bell County Assistant District Attorney and military spouse, at one of the Living in the New Normal Committee’s (LINN) Meet Belton for Military Families in Belton ISD events. Through dialogue with Jackson, the Chamber’s LINN Committee determined that forming the BAMSS would be the perfect way to meet the need voiced by her concern. This group will help pull together military spouses to form a network of support for each other when spouses are deployed. The first meeting will be held on Thursday, April 28 at 7:00 p.m. at Bodega Bean Coffee & Café located in Downtown Belton at 107 Water Street.
