New DJ Hero Vids Show More Gameplay

Activision today released a few new videos to showcase its upcoming DJ Hero title, featuring two versus tracks, comprised of two songs each: Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" vs. N.E.R.D.'s "Lapdance" and GrandMaster Flash Featuring DJ Kool & DJ Demo's "Here Comes My DJ" vs. Gary Numan's "Cars."

SIRIUS Primes Up For New Location Test

Konami's arcade game portal is now reporting beatmania IIDX 17 SIRIUS will be undergoing a second run of location testings at two locations from June 30 - July 5. You can view the times and locations at the game's official location testing page. The top location on the test page is King Joy in Nagoya, while the bottom location is at Dinos Park in the Norbesa.

PM Studios & bemanistyle @ Anime Expo 2009

Being that Anime Expo is only a week away this may seem like a late announcement. Either way, PM Studios is being ever so gracious and hosting us at their booth at Anime Expo 2009. We'll have some bemanistyle T-Shirts available at the booth for $15 a piece along with some select albums from the mydjsobad inventory available for sale. PM Studios is doing a whole bunch of really cool stuff to promote DJ MAX TECHNIKA and DJ MAX FEVER.

First of all, they're gonna have some really killer sales on DJ MAX merchandise, including some brand new wall scrolls of the girls from the First Kiss video. Along with that there will be a couple of contests. You can see the pricing and what will be available in the attached image, the contests breakdown as such:

For every purchase, the customer gets 2 types of raffle tickets. 1 Raffle is for prizes. The Second Raffle is for the Technika Contest.

Both Raffle Events will be held on Saturday at 11AM.

No word on whether the Technika machine at the booth with be on public play other than the tournaments, but there will definitely be a machine in the game room available. It's been a bit over a week since we opened up the first of several raffles we'll be running over the course of the rest of the year to raise money for our new server. So far the turnout has been pretty light to be honest, but that's why we're giving you all until the end of July to donate! This is just the first of a few reminders that for a $5 donation to the site via the link below, you'll be entered into a raffle to win a beatmania IIDX 12 HAPPY SKY tapestry.

Technika testing AGAIN!

While DJ MAX TECHNIKA has been doing phenomenal in most locations since it's release a couple of a weeks ago, some arcades still feel the need to test the waters with the title. Given the state of arcades in the US, and the amount of crap being pushed out into the field (I won't point any fingers) I can't really say I blame to them too much. This time around, Mulligan Family Fun Centers of California are holding a test of their own. The Torrance, CA location received a machine yesterday and will be holding a limited test presumably to decide on whether they'd like to make the investment or not.

That being said, anyone living in the Torrance/Hawthorne/Redondo Beach area should go check it out. No word on whether they have cards available for purchase or not (if you still need one, PM Studios is still offering them to bemanistyle users via the banner on the top page.) or how much it costs per game. If we can find the time to make it up there to check it out we'll update with more details.

New Scratch Video Showcases Game Controller

The past few weeks has seen a lot of buzz around DJ Hero and just when you thought maybe Scratch: The Ultimate DJ was being drown out into obscurity, Genius has come forth at the end of the week to provide a video showcasing the controller it is so proud of. Seven more DLC songs hit the catalog for Rock Band, bringing Evanescence and Spinal Tap to the Xbox 360 on Tuesday and the Playstation 3 on Thursday.

Americans might be waiting longer for e-amusement

Just to pack another blow on Betson's DDR X dedicabs, I was just told from an unnamed source (that had absolutely no prior knowledge of Supernova 2) that the e-amusement connector boxes are not being distributed because they were told from Betson "people at a New Jersey test location hacked into the machine, thus a rights issue needs to be resolved first to prevent further hacking."

pop'n Wii First JP Songs, LE Detailed

Konamistyle now has an official Web site posted to provide product information on the Wii version of pop'n music, detailing that the edition will receive an LE version and revealing a small chunk of the title's songs. The limited edition version of the title will tack on about 2,000 extra Yen, but it is slated to come included with a "pop'n music mascot collection." It appears there will be 10 different charms molded for the collection, including Mimi & Nyami, Yuli, Ash, MZD, Roku and more (see the attached picture), which can be attached to an "I <3 PNM" Wii Remote-shaped collectible (to avoid confusion, please note this is not an electronic, playable remote for your Wii system).

If you need even more collectibles for your pop'n fix, Konami is doing a preorder campaign for a mascot bank set, modeled after characters appearing in 16 PARTY. The company will have to receive at least 2,000 preorders to pump out the set, which will cost 6,000 Yen (roughly $61.10 U.S. right now).

So it's been a few days since the donation drive started, and as we said before we're not just going to ask for your money outright. We were waiting on a few things to come through regarding some cool, rare merchandise that we could raffle off and the first bit of that came last night. We're going to have a few other raffles as the donation drive continues and the rules will be the same for each. Rather than raffle off random stuff, we're gonna be giving everyone the opportunity to win stuff that has always been pretty pricey.

The first item up for grabs via raffle is a beatmania IIDX 12 HAPPY SKY Tapestry. Also known as an archstand (although without the stand itself it really isn't), these are given as an option for arcade owners in Japan to promote their new games when they come out. The tapestries themselves always seem to be a little bit more rare, likely due to the space they take up and how easily they can walk when placed outside of a location.

One of these same tapestries recently sold at the Tokyo Game Action auction for over $400. To say it's a desirable piece of merchandise is an understatement.

Raffle tickets cost $5 each and will be available for purchase through July 31st, 2009. The winner of the raffle will be picked and announced on August 3rd, 2009. This raffle is open to everyone in every country, whether they're registered on bemanistyle or not. <p>As some of you may have noticed, over the past year or so the site itself has been running into much more server slowdown, busy messages and downtime. While all minor annoyances and nothing threatening long term downtime for any of our affiliate projects, in order for us to grow any further it needs to be addressed. We've already mentioned the new version of the site, which has been in development for several months and is getting closer to launch every day. This new site is going to feature much more in the way of user interaction, greater information databases, and some other features we're not ready to disclose as we're not sure how they're going to pan out just yet. Part of the reason for that is due to the amount of stress these features stand to put on the server itself once they go live. Unfortunately bemanistyle has always largely acted as a not-for-profit website. Our other projects don't bring us much in the way of profit and may as well also be considered "labor of love" type situations.</p>
<p>This is where you all come in. In the past we have taken donations to fix little bits and pieces of the server we run on. Now you all stand to make the largest contributions towards the purchase of our new server, and help usher in a new period of growth in the North American rhythm game scene. This new server is just the first step in our plans to bring great new things to the community not only in the US, but also worldwide. We've made many beneficial friends as a website and company since 2007 when we first worked with GUHROOVY at ACen, and all of these new friends and contacts want to help us help you progress further as a fanbase and community of enthusiasts.</p>
<p>Since we're really not too good at asking people to give us something for nothing, donations won't just be a one sided thing this time around. For several months we've been coming up with things we can let you do on the forums and amassing all sorts of random merchandise from flyers to marquees to e-amusement cards. Every donation over $5 will recieve something in return for their support. Here are your options:</p>

<li><strong>Stick a topic in f136 or the marketplace for 2 weeks ($5)</strong>: Have an item you're really trying to sell or draw attention to? Get it stickied for 2 weeks for $5. We're only allowing 5 topics in the marketplace stuck at a time, and there will be an active queue that will be rotated out as other stickies expire. Same deal with forum boredom, any topic in f136 no matter how stupid can be stuck for 2 weeks for a $5 donation.</li>
<li><strong>Random bit of music game merch in the mail (all donations over $5)</strong>: We've been collecting flyers, e-amusement cards, CDs, games, marquees, speaker pops and more for quite some time. Now these collectible (and in some cases rare) bits of merchandise will be passed back to you guys in return for your donations. If you choose to donate outright and not recieve a forum option we will send you something in the mail. The amount you donate doesn't dictate what you'll recieve and obviously we have more of some things than others. We will continue to pick up random bits of merchandise as well so as time goes on we might even have some even cooler stuff going back to you guys.</li>

Rock Band Notches Exclusive Green Day Content Rights

While members of Green Day kind of spoiled today's announcement during a recent interview, Harmonix let the cat out of the official bag, letting players know that Green Day will be hitting the Rock Band DLC scene in the future.

Slated for a July 7 release, a three pack will hit the catalog to promote the band's newest album 21st Century Breakdown - "21 Guns," "Know Your Enemy" and "East Jesus Nowhere." Fans of the band should also be glad to know that the band's partnership won't end there. Harmonix has announced additional Green Day songs and "projects" will be announced at a later date.

Hudson to Team Up with GReeeeN for New DS Title

While no real news has popped up for the title as of yet, Hudson has posted a Japanese teaser site for an upcoming music game and has confirmed the 2009 DS title to Famitsu. The music title will see the game developer teaming up with the Japanese vocal group GReeeeN, which first came on to the music scene in 2007. For those unfamiliar with the group, the quartet has two albums out and it appears the group is actually launching a brand new album today. It would seem the group has solid popularity in Japan given its albums have topped the Oricon charts and have combined for about 1.5 million units in sales.

14-Year-Old Breaks Three More Official Guinness GH Records

Danny "Phenom" Johnson is back in the Guinness Video Game World Record spotlight, this time tackling three more official records three months after setting the new highest score in Guitar Hero III record.

The first record broken by Phenom was the longest note streak on Guitar Hero - 3,772, which was obtained by scoring a 100% on "Through the Fire and the Flames," setting a second record with a total single track score of 985,206, breaking his old record. He also stepped up to the Playstation 3 version of Guitar Hero Metallica, setting a single track high score of 1,009,056 with the song Mercyful Fate while using Dreamgear's Warbeast guitar controller.

New DJ Hero Press Release Details

While E3 may have brought most of this information to the press behind closed doors, Activision today sent out an updated press release for its upcoming DJ Hero. Here are the details laid out in the new document:

- More than 100 individual songs, presented in more than 80 never-before-released mixes that match hip-hop, R&B, pop, rock and electronica. The title also promises the most diverse international collection of music ever featured in a music game title. Specific artists named include David Bowie, Blondie, Justice, Marvin Gaye, KRS-1, Beastie Boys, Gorillaz, N.E.R.D., Beck and 50 Cent.

- The controller allows for game play mechanics such as scratching, blending, cross fading and sampling, all while providing a number of effects for each.

- Much like Guitar Hero, famous artists will make in-game appearances. Today's press release specifically mentions DJ Shadow.

- Players will be able to compete against each other in DJ vs. DJ game modes, but players can also scratch together on a collaboration mix. Another player will be able to join in and emcee over any track with the use of a mic and DJ-guitar mixes allow for players to plug in a Guitar Hero controller and jam with the mix. The DJ vs. DJ bullet point specifically mentions the DMC World DJ Championships, so this may mean a venue could be themed after the event or the license will appear in the game somehow.

- Speaking of venues, the press release indicates a Hollywood Hills-style mansion and Ibiza will be included along with other real world locales.

The following isn't detailed in the press release, but every bullet point in the press release had a kicker phrase and a few of them were clever use of song titles. Does this mean these songs will appear in the game? We don't know at this point, but here are a few of the kicker phrases that have logical song choices for DJ Hero:

"Music Sounds Better With You" - Stardust
"Bust A Move" - Young MC
