I love that the size was not too big. The piece is versatile enough to go in a dining room, breakfast room, or even put books in. It doesn't say "I'm only for china and a dining room." Know what I mean?

Three French Hens from University Pickers is now selling La Craie furniture paint from Maison Blanche. I have been dying to get my hands on this paint! I bought the Silver Mink, which is a silvery white color. I will be doing a more in-depth blog post on La Craie. I really love this color. It looks so pretty with dark gray. Of course, I had to use the Silver Mink on the French Provincial Hutch. It was screaming out for Silver Mink.

Here is the before

And here she is all made-up.

I replaced the glass with chicken wire because I just couldn't help myself. I think it gives it more character.

After painting a base coat of Silver Mink I did a Paris Grey Chalk Paint wash over the entire cabinet. I painted the molding edge French Linen and the interior as well. I want to paint everything this color now! Here are some close-ups.

Have you tried La Craie furniture paint? If so, what do you think?

I love to do hutches. I found one on Craiglist and called the guy and said I WANT THIS! It was being sold with a dining room table and six chairs. It took me a couple of trips to get it all home. I didn't pay attention to how ENORMOUS the hutch was when I read the ad. I barely crammed it into my vehicle. It was so big when I got it home in two pieces that I took one part to the curb to let someone else deal with. I kept the bottom part which was the buffet. I liked it better by itself anyway. The entire thing together was way over 6 ft. tall. I did not feel like tackling a project that big.

This is the top part that got kicked to the curb. Some people will think I'm nuts but it was just too big. I forgot to take a pic of the before of the buffet but it looked like this as well.

Only problem with the piece I kept, it was a little too short to stand on its' own as a buffet. It just looked weird and it bothered me. So here I was with this piece of furniture I just bought trying to figure out what to do with it! Every time I looked at it I could see a TV/Media console, something I have been looking for for my house.

I took the top drawer out and cut off the front of it. I attached hinges to the drawer front and placed a shelf on the inside of the cabinet. Now the drawer flips open to house cable components. When you aren't watching TV you can close it up with all of that other electronic clutter that I can't stand to look at. Seeing the TV doesn't bother me. It's the cable box, DVR,Wii, remote controls, cords and on and on that I can't stand.

My husband, being a man, didn't think the drawer thing was a good idea. He doesn't get opening the drawer front and then closing it when you aren't watching TV. He told me not to cut the drawer front off. Too late!

The bottom is painted in Country Grey Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and distressed. The top and inside is Graphite Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, which was my first time to use that color. My pictures don't do it justice. I took two pics and my battery died on my camera. I think it turned out great! What do you think? Would you use something like this for your TV? I was nervous it wouldn't sell. Fortunately, someone else liked it besides me and bought it soon after I put it in my booth. Yay! Hopefully, I can find something else like this for my own home.

Before and After Vintage Chair

If you follow me on Facebook you may have read a post several months ago about my husband going picking for me. I sent him on a mission to bring back a French Provincial table from a lady. He ended up with a chair and a mirror. The mirror I actually turned into a chalkboard and sold it on grand opening day of University Pickers. This poor ole' chair stay buried in my garage waiting for me to do something with it. It was covered in a groovy gold velvet fabric.

I knew it had potential but y'all I don't really know how to upholster. I just make it up as I go along. Every time I take a chair apart I'm always surprised at what I find. The seat in this chair had been changed over the years and it was breaking. I had to completely redo the seat and reinforce it so it wouldn't fall apart when someone sits on it.

It also took me a while to decide on fabric. I bought a modern print at Hancock fabrics and decided not to use it. I was walking around Hobby Lobby and this fabric caught my eye. I don't usually do anything that has this much color and pattern. But I decided to walk on the wild side and bought a couple of yards. Since it was a patterned fabric I didn't do the tufting.

Of course, I thought I could throw the fabric on in a couple of hours and be done with it. It ALWAYS takes way longer to do a project than I anticipate. I had some Annie Sloan Aubusson Blue chalk paint that I have been dying to do something with. I painted the chair Aubusson Blue and I tried so hard to stick with it. I ended up repainting it! I wish I would have taken a picture of it painted in blue. I then tried Old White, Country Grey, and Old Ochre. I ended up using Old Ochre and it was perfect!

So what do you think? Do you like bold prints and colors or more neutral? I think this fabric is a good mix.

This chair is available for purchase at University Pickers, a new fun vintage and antique store, located at 3024C University Dr. Huntsville, AL
It came from a gentleman in his 50's who said it was his grandmother's. I have been wanting to do a vanity and just never can find one and when I do it is too high. This one was in perfect condition and the right price. I couldn't decide what color to paint it. At first, I painted the top duck egg blue. I just wasn't feeling it. Then, I decided it needed Paris Grey.

Here is a before pic

And after many many hours of work and TLC

I used a wash of Paris Grey and Old White mix on some of the details and the drawer hardware.

The seat was upholstered in a cream small script fabric and the drawers were lined in this fabric as well.

I added a burlap bow for that special touch. I think the chair with the bow is my favorite part. I took this set to University Pickers on Friday afternoon and the next day it sold!

Next on my to do list...upholstering a chair. You won't believe the fabric and the color I am painting it. Let's just say it is unlike anything I have done before. It is very bold but it's going to look amazing! I will be posting on it very soon!
My house has been completely transformed into a workshop. I had no idea how busy I was going to be. I've sold more in the last three weeks than in the last 6 months! I owe it all to the owners of University Pickers, Paul and Katherine. They have been so good to me. They believe in me and like my stuff and they don't want to kick me out when my booth is empty. ;) They promote me which has made a huge difference in getting my pieces seen and sold!

Here is a pic of what my booth looks like right now

I just put the new dining set in. I was a little nervous because it was so different from the farmhouse table and French Provincial chairs. However, people love it! Yay!

I also added a gate-leg table that I absolutely love! I stained the top dark and the bottom is in country grey chalk paint. It has a curvy top that is sooo pretty.

I also have 2 twin upholstered headboards and a queen size upholstered headboard. These look much better in person. I took the pic of the large headboard with my phone and the color is off. The top is really not green. It is painted in Country Grey, same as the gate-leg table.

I also have a small round side table painted in Chateau Grey that I forgot to take a pic of. You can see a glimpse of the table in the left on the gate-leg table pic. I am going to start taking before and after pics. I know I have said that before. But this time I promise!

New items I have to paint are a French Provincial hutch, a BIG secretary (what was I thinking kind of big), and a sweet little vanity over 100 years old. I will also be sharing tips on what I am learning about running a creative business.

There were people waiting in line in the freezing cold to get in before it opened. A lot of the vendors were there throughout the day. I have to admit I wasn't there until the end because I was sooooo nervous! Doesn't that sound nuts? I was freaking out about watching people in my booth not liking it or not buying anything. That was just plain silly because from my neighbor vendor people liked my booth and I sold almost all of my smalls and a bench. When I got there around closing my husband kept telling me in the car..."Don't get upset if nothing was bought." My mouth hit the floor when I saw how empty it was. I NEVER thought about being there during the day to replenish. DUH! I honestly thought my stuff would still be there. I had everything arranged just the way I wanted it. I felt like I had decorated the room and it had been raided and all of the little "pretties" were gone. I am still new at this. At the old antique mall I was in it was nothing like this. EVER! I sold more items in one day at University Pickers than I did in the previous six months. I owe it all to the owners of University Pickers, Katherine and Paul. They are so sweet and patient with me. Even when I should have brought more stuff to put in my booth and I didn't write my booth number on a piece of furniture and it took them 45 minutes to figure out who they credited the sale to. I can be such a fruit loop but I am working on it Paul, I promise! Here are some pics of my booth before the sale.
I will give more details about the furniture in future posts. I built the farmhouse table and bench. I am in building mode now. I want to try to build everything! I'm off to work on more stuff for my booth!

The Fancy Farmgirl

So much has happened since the last time I wrote you guys. I was invited to join a new antique mall opening in Huntsville, AL in January called University Pickers. The owner found me through facebook. I had liked their page and she noticed my name, Beneath the Magnolias, and checked out my blog. She said she liked my stuff and wanted us to meet so I could check out the new store. I knew nothing about this venture or them but I went the very next day. Their enthusiasm and big ideas for the store won me over. I picked out a booth and paid my deposit that night. I am so glad I didn't wait because they filled up fast! Katherine and Paul believe in their vendors and want to do whatever they can to promote them. I think support is the key word here.

I am going to be among true artisians. The real deal people. That makes me nervous. Not people selling stuff from their latest garage sale. There will be a couple that creates art from old airplane parts! Another lady makes chandeliers from old tin pails. Someone makes their own soy candles, another makes signs. It is quite intimidating but exciting at the same time.

I hope to be able to start on my booth very soon. I have so many grand ideas. I hope my husband can help me with all of it! I am trying to find and paint furniture as well. I am having a hard time choosing colors for furniture. Do I use color, do I play it safe and go all neutral?

This pic is of an old door with a light and shelves added. I want to do stuff like this!

I'm talking about double ruffles or self-lining ruffles. I would rather line anything than to have to hem or finish an edge. I guess you could call it lazy sewing. I made a runner with ruffles on both ends to place on the dresser I have for sale in my booth. I'm sure this isn't the proper way to do things but I think it should be the new standard for sewing.

First, determine the size you want your runner and double the width. For instance, if you wanted a runner 80 in. in length and 14 in. wide you would cut a piece 80 in. (plus your seam allowance) by 28 in. wide (plus seam allowance).

Here is my piece of fabric

Now pay close attention...take your fabric and fold it in half. Got that? That's my secret.

Now do the same thing for the ruffles that you will sew to each end. Cut the length you want (plus allowance) by double the width that you want (plus allowance).

Remember the secret...fold in half.

Now take each of your rectangle pieces and place them right sides together and stitch around 3 sides, turn right side out and stitch the fourth side closed. I just top-stitch it at the very edge. Then, make ruffles out of your fabric for the ruffles. Sorry, I don' teach those kind of tutorials. I only teach let's cheat and be lazy kind of tutorials. I don't have pics of all of this. I get excited when I get past the cutting stage and just start sewing really fast.

Then take your ruffle pieces and lay each on top of one edge of your runner, overlapping a quarter of an inch or more and stitch together. This is what it will look like. See how the all of the edges are on the inside. Also having the extra fabric makes it look more full and more custom-made.

Of course, the runner is self-lined with all of the raw edges on the inside as well. It only cost just a little more to self-line and it's so worth the time and trouble it saves and of course, the nice clean edges.

So who else doubles everything they possibly can when they sew? Next on the sewing agenda is slip-covers. I can't get them out of my mind. I am on the look-out for the perfect furniture specimen to experiment with.

I never expected it to sell so quickly! I have two more sets of tables and chairs that I need to get done! When Hartlex called and said it sold I knew I needed to take something to the booth to make it not feel so empty. I had this headboard that was ready to be upholstered. It was just a plain dark stained headboard but what sold me on it was the curvy top.

Before...dark and blah

After...light and dreamy

The top curvy part is painted in a soft creamy white. I added two thick layers of batting then fabric lining and the burlap. The burlap is the linen-like kind so it doesn't smell or shed like normal burlap. I love the texture and color of the wood and burlap together. This is a queen sized headboard 63 in. wide.

The lighting in my booth is terrible! It is making everything I have painted blue look purple. I am going to put some lamps in there and see if it helps. I still have to do something about the turquoise walls as well. I'm trying to redo my daughter's room and work on the rest of the house too. One day when I get a whole room clean I will take a pic and share.

I thought the day would never come. I have a large booth now. Harlex is full and it's been difficult to get into a large booth. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done to make it look nice. I was able to move in the dining room set that I bought a few weeks ago.

I was so relieved to finally have the dining room table and china cabinet done and out of my house! It is really difficult to fit 2 dining room sets and a china cabinet in one room! We are constantly crawling over furniture here. It's always good when we are able to move some out.

Before

After

My biggest fan doing a ta-da! I didn't take a before pic of the china cabinet for some odd reason but it was the same color as the table. All of it was in near perfect condition.

It was so dark and gloomy outside it was difficult to get any good pics. I am determined to work more on my photography, especially on white balance and getting crisp pics. But that's a whole different post.

I lined the drawers with linen in my favorite toile pattern. Such an unexpected surprise. Love!

Both the dining room set and china cabinet are done in a creamy antique white and are lightly distressed. The pictures make it appear lighter than it is. It's a very pretty warm white.

I have a lot of work to do in my booth to make it look good. The walls are a terrible bright blue color. It does not go with my stuff at all! I am thinking of covering them with drop cloth this time to hide the blue. I would rather cover them with something instead of paint because I want to cover the peg holes too. I'll be sharing a picture of my booth and asking for advice very soon!

One of my favorite things I found was a pillow with a pumpkin applique on it. Of course, every single time I see something I think I can even remotely make I don't buy it and say I'm going to make it. 95% of the time I end up not making it. But I was determined I was going to make a pumpkin applique. This is my version of the Pottery Barn inspired pillow.

Supplies

Pumpkin Applique Pattern (you can draw your own or click HERE for pattern)

Burlap in two different colors (or any fabric of your choice)

Fabric for the stem

Jute

Fabric Glue

Pins (to hold jute vines in place while drying)

Pillow Cover (make your own, buy one, or use cover you already have)

First step is to decide on what kind of pillow cover you want to attach your applique to. I made a very quick and easy envelope pillow cover out of Osnaburg fabric. It's not a very thick fabric but I already had it so I decided to use it. Drop cloth fabric would work perfectly for this project. The easiest route of course, would be to use a pillow cover already made. There are so many pretty fall pillows out there in lots of pretty colors.

Trace or draw any pumpkin pattern you like or you can click HERE for mine and print it out.

Place piece of paper over pumpkin and trace three overlay pieces.

Place pumpkin pattern piece on dark-colored burlap and cut one.

Cut the other 3 pattern pieces out of the lighter-colored burlap.

Gluing jute around the applique pieces gives it a finished look and helps it to not unravel.

Arrange the jute to make vines and run glue underneath and pin down the string while it dries. Glue down your stem as well. I cut the edge off of a kitchen towel for the stem.

Isn't that the cutest pumpkin? Love!

I've been thinking about what I want to do with my mantel. I wanted something natural and simple. I went around to different craft stores but didn't see what i was looking for. Of course, everything I needed I already had.

I have things tucked away in several closets and my attic. I started pulling everything out and instead of piles of junk in my closets it was all over my living room and dining room. I realized I had some baskets, an old tray, and a demijohn bottle with wicker that were all close in color and neutral.

This was my first version of my mantel. I took this at night so I apologize for the picture quality. I placed burlap in a frame and attached leaves from my oak leaf hydrangeas and antiqued the frame and made a herbarium. Pinecones and acorns went into glass jars found at Homegoods. The iron basket on the mantel was purchased a few weeks ago at TJ Max. Some of you may recognize the tray from Southern Living years ago. I played around with my pile until it all came together.

I like fern leaves better. They complement all of the colors and textures perfectly.

I went to Nashville today and visited the Carnton Plantation and Carter House. We had a great time but I am pooped. Have any of you ever been? I plan on sharing pictures very soon.
I know I can't stop looking at all of the beautiful Fall pictures out there. My Pinterest Board is blown up with them. I went through several websites full of pictures and I am going to share some. I would show you my own decorations but I have none because I've been too busy pinning them.

My favorite holiday decor is made mostly of natural elements. They can be relatively easy to find...acorns, leaves, pumpkins, pine cones, magnolia leaves, apples, gords, corn husks. I know that not everyone can find all of these things. Sometimes I do get them at a farmer's market, grocery store, neighbor's yard, stranger's yard...

I have the "pretty picture that I will never do but like to pin and pretend I will" category up first. I actually do a very scaled down version of this pic for the front of my house since I don't have steps, time, or money for the large version.

Next up we have the "If you can click your mouse button..." category. I say that because I found a website you can order dried wheat sheaves from. Disclaimer: I have no idea what the sheaves on the website are like but there are reviews for the wheat sheaves you can read before you purchase them. These are perfect at an entryway or use two of them on a dining room table, simple but makes a statement.

and the wheat on the table with the pretty burlap runner. Of course, the Mora clock looks great too.

I have so many I want to split them up into different posts. I apologize for the weird spacing, font changes, and letters running off the page. It may be Blogger's fault or because it's 1:00 AM and I can't think anymore.

I have seen so many great fall ideas on Pinterest and linky parties. It really inspired me to do something in my own house. A couple of weeks ago I found a large antique wooden toolbox at the antique store that my booth is in. It was only $35 and even had some old tools in it. Just the week before I saw a smaller, not antique, wooden tool box sell for $75. I was going to try to make one but this antique was perfect. No way I could replicate it and give it the same character. I knew it would be perfect on my dining room table filled with flowers.

This is what the toolbox looks like and all of the tools that came with it. I have no idea what I am going to do with them.

The finish and all of the dings and wear tell a story about this old toolbox.

These sunflowers are from Walmart and cost $3 a bundle.

I just painted and reupholstered the chairs. They go with another dining room set that I am about to sell. I really like how they turned out. I will be sharing that furniture makeover very soon! If you can't find an old toolbox for your table you could always build a planter box for an easy dining room centerpiece. Check out that link on how to make one for your table.

I always thought they were complicated. HA! They just look that way but it's super easy. I just saved pics from the internet that I liked and then created a collage in Picasa. I resized and moved the pics around and around and then around some more until I played with it enough and that's it! I know I'm probably the last blogger on Earth to make an eDesign board!

Here is what I want to do for my master bedroom.

The inspiration came from pic #3 which was from an article in Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles Magazine. The room was designed by Beth Elsey. I loved every single picture from her house! I think I had all of them pinned before I figured out that they were all done by the same person. Make sure you check out her dining room. That blue is gorgeous!

This is the paint color used in her bedroom Benjamin Moore Silver Crest

These are the sources for the other items:

1. UrbanOutfitters (upholstered headboard)

2. Ivgstores (mirrored nighstand)

3. Atlanta Homes and Magazine (inspiration photo)

4. Pottery Barn (Porcelain Blue Silk Drapes)

5. Silk Ranunculus (found at TJ Max)

6. Pottery Barn (Grand Embroidered Duvet Cover)

7. Target (clear ball lamps)

8. Botanical Prints (free printables)

9. Pottery Barn (Porcelain Blue quilt)

I am planning on making my own headboard for a fraction of the cost of buying one. I actually already have a mirrored nightstand I bought at TJ Max last year. I don't know if I will get the silk drapes. That will definitely be a splurge. I know that they are on ebay for a lot less. The duvet set from Pottery Barn is actually not very expensive. I've also seen the duvet on ebay for less. I already have the Target lamps. The botanical prints are free printables so I just have to buy the frames. I'm undecided on the quilt. I may get the duvet cover and then see if the bed looks like it needs something else.

When I will actually get to doing all of this I have no idea. I still want to finish my family room and dining room. I also have dreams of painting my kitchen cabinets. While doing all of this I still have to continue painting furniture!

Speaking of furniture, I have all of the dining room chairs painted and I stained the table top today! I plan on putting the poly on the top tomorrow and then all I will need to do is recover the seat cushions. Yay! I will be posting a pic very soon!

I bought this waterfall dresser over a month ago. I found it in a really sad shape, cosmetically. But I knew it had potential. When I brought it home my husband who was helping me get it out of my car said (uhhh, WHAT is this?) He thought it was way too much work. I had a friend look at it and said it couldn't be helped, she just couldn't see it. Well after hours and hours later it finally looks like this.

I exchanged the knobs that looked like tail lights for these pretty clear knobs.

I painted the detail on the mirror white to make it stand out. There is also the same detail on the top of cabinet.

You might be able to see a little bit of the silvering that has come off the mirror. I could have resilvered the mirror but there's no way I would ever do that. I love the look of old silvering coming off of an antique mirror. It is one more thing that distinguishes it from a regular factory piece of furniture. Some people try to replicate the antique look with new mirrors. There was a stamp on the back of the mirror that read Bassett and another that had the date July 17th, 1948. I love it when I can find the maker and the date.

Here is a side by side of the dresser and Cabinet both done in Louis Blue ASCP. They would look so good together in a bedroom!

I am working on a dining table with chairs now. They are so pretty. Can't wait to show them to you!

I tried so many paint colors on this cabinet before I finally decided on Louis Blue ASCP. This is a very pretty wedgewood blue color. So far everything I have sold in my booth has been some form of white or cream except for the French Provincial china cabinet which was done in muted tones of French Linen and Paris Grey. I have to admit right now to the world or the 5 people that that will read this...I don't like color. The secret is out! Actually, let me rephrase that I don't like color in MY house. The only color that I use is blue as an accent. I love blues that are more soft and muted with a little gray. Let me get back to the original story here which was...here is a cabinet I painted and it's not white it's blue.

This is a before pic in my "workshop" better known as the very sad dining room.

The glass was missing from the cabinet. I couldn't decide if I should replace it or try something else. I decided to try the chicken wire. Save yourself a lot of trouble by not putting chicken wire in with a $20 stapler.

This would look so good in a bathroom. I have always wanted a cabinet in my bathroom but have no room. It would also work in a breakfast room, dining room, girl's room, guest bedroom... Okay, basically every single room in your house. The size is great at only 38" wide and around 67" tall. I looked around on google and apparently this is a Depression Era cabinet. Don't hate me wood people. It needed a fresh updated look. I hope this sells fast. I am out of room in my booth and I still have a few more things to put in there. I'm going to be asking for a larger booth soon! I will be sharing a dresser hopefully, tomorrow. I painted it not white too!
I had my eye on a certain fabric at a local fabric store for let's say 4 years. I would go in there just to touch and salivate all over it. They had a panel made up of it and oh my, was it gorgeous. But it was SO expensive. I knew I could never pay that much for drapes. Then one day I dropped by to see how my fabric was doing and they had a bolt of it! Before then you had to special order it so it was very expensive but since they had a bolt and a SALE at the same time I could afford it. Twelve yards and many sewing hours later I had this.

I don't know the designer or manufacturer so I can't give info on that. Next time I drop in I'll ask. Now I'm working on drapes for my dining room. I've ordered a swatch of fabric from Calico Corners in a buffalo check. I can't wait until it gets here. Fabric is exciting! I hope someone understands this besides me. My husband isn't so enthusiastic.

Stained Tabletops

I love the look of a stained top on a piece of furniture and the bottom painted. Miss Mustard has perfected this look! I tried this with a small table that I bought since I didn't know much about staining. The first table turned out perfectly and sold. So I found a larger table and gave it another try. I LOVE how it turned out! The stain had not completely dried before I took this pic.

This is what it looked like before. It had been painted a reddish brown. In this pic I had already sanded down the top. I used Rust-Oleum Kona stain. It is a really dark and rich color.

I put this in my booth today along with the blue tables. I hope they sell fast. My house and garage are filling up!

Side Table or End Table?

I am adding some really pretty slate blue side tables to my booth. I call them side tables but some say end tables. I have no idea what the correct name is. I completely forgot to take a before pic! I am getting so bad about that. They were just your basic brown. I jazzed them up with a slate blue color that I am lovin'. I also lightly distressed them. I actually went to take them yesterday to Hartlex but they were closed! Unfortunately, they had to get some emergency work done on a gas line. But I plan on dropping these off today.

Just as I was loading them in my car the bottom fell out of the sky. It was a torrential downpour for more than an hour. I was running round outside trying to get them in my car before they got wet and I dropped my cell phone in the grass without knowing it. It stayed outside for 3 hours in the rain before I found it! I've gotten my Iphone wet before and the sounds stop working when someone texts me. This time the sounds stop working when someone calls. HOWEVER, someone called me this morning and it worked! I can't believe you can leave your phone out in that much water and the next day it starts working again. Although, I don't suggest testing yours out.

I'm going junkin'/pickin' (whatever you want to call it today too)! Can't wait to see what I find. I don't know where I am going to put anything once I find it. My garage is scary!

Jewelry Cork Board

I am so behind on posting! My car's transmission blew up, my son got sick, I found out I have kidney stones, blacked out on Saturday and spent the day in the hospital. Things have been CRAZY! It sounds chaotic but really everything is good. I should have had these posts written weeks ago!

While I was in Atlanta, I saw some really pretty cork boards with sparkly pins. I bought some of the pins but decided to make my own cork board. I had a plastic brown frame that I knew would look fabulous with a coat of chalk paint. I bought a roll of cork at Hobby Lobby. I already had the batting and the burlap. So this project was cheap and simple!

Here are my supplies. Pretend that the roll of cork is in the pic.

I painted the frame Louis Blue and it made such a huge difference. It looked like a wooden picture frame.

Here is the frame painted and the roll of cork with the rest of my supplies.

I turned the frame over and placed a piece of burlap over the back. I then placed two layers of cork and a layer of batting over the burlap. I reattached the back and that was it! I got so excited I forgot to take pics of all of that but I think you get the idea.

Turned the beauty over and pushed the pins in and OMG I LOVE it!

Just look at those sparkly pins. Sparkly pins are my favorite. ;)

I wish I would have wiped glaze over all of the detail to really make it pop but I think I am going to leave it the way it is. I can't wait to make more of these. This one is going in my daughter's room. I hope to make some more to put in my booth.
We went a few years ago with the kids and always wanted to go back by ourselves. I think I could go to this place 100 times and still be completely amazed!

This is the ceiling of the loggia (side porch). I'm not even going to try to explain where this is in the house.

You can see this part of the house if you go on the Butler's Tour, which I highly recommend.

This house was on the property when Mr. Vanderbilt purchased it. Some of the staff live there now!

If you go to the Biltmore make sure you go on some of the behind the scenes tours. We went on the Butler's Tour which was the best tour we've been on there. I have some more historical homes to share tomorrow!

Atlanta Road Trip!

My husband and I took a week to ourselves and decided to go on a road trip. We knew we were going to Atlanta but after that we weren't sure. We have been taking an annual trip to Charleston every year for the past 4 years. I absolutely LOVE Charleston. But Jason decided we should do something different.

While in Atlanta we stayed in Peachtree City. I have always wanted to check out this "golf cart community". I don't know if I've mentioned this before but we can live wherever we want. We are living in north Alabama right now. I do like it but I'm always checking out other places. I loved this neighborhood we found in Peachtree City!

We dropped by the Ballard Designs Outlet. I can't even tell you how much I love this store! I could fill up my entire house with their stuff. I walked through the store salivating all over the place. I left with exactly nothing. I wanted so many things but in the end decided I didn't "need" any of it. No fun! We also found a cafe called Cafe Intermezzo in Buckhead. They have the most amazing cheesecake, so many different kinds! There is also pages and pages of different coffees on their menu. If you are in Atlanta make sure you stop by one night for dessert and coffee.

We also went to Scott's Antique Market. Y'all this place in unbelievable! It is 2 huge warehouses full of antiques. It took a while before we even found a parking space. The first building had so many beautiful things but the prices were the most ridiculous I had ever seen. We went on to the next building. It was much better! The prices weren't as crazy and the antiques were more my style. I especially loved the outdoor section. One vendor had a TON of old architectural pieces outside. Here are a few pics.
I saw a guy on the side of the road with tons of stuff for sale. I, of course, made a quick u-turn and stopped to check it out. I found a great headboard that was wood with two upholstered inserts. It was painted a bright red with floral fabric. I knew it had potential so I snatched it up! I also bought a small chair (still working on it) and an old door with the original hardware.

This is the before of the red headboard

This is the after! Love it!

I removed all of the red paint from the headboard. I didn't want to have to worry about it bleeding through or trying to cover it up with several coats of paint. I then painted it with old white chalk paint. I had some burlap left over from my booth and put that in the inserts. When I finished it looked so good! I wanted to keep it for myself and put it in my guest bedroom. I know I probably won't ever find anything like it again. In the end, I decided to put it in my booth along with the old door and a window. I'm glad I did because the headboard sold the next day along with the chair I upholstered and the little table I painted.
I try to have everything flow in my booth. I want pieces to relate to each other that way if the headboard goes with the chair and table people will buy all three. I have a dresser and I am going to pick up another one today and get started on those. I didn't know it was going to be so much work trying to keep my little booth full but I love it!
I dropped off a few things at my booth before I went on vacation.

This is a pic of what I put in my booth. It's not much but I'm working on it.

My husband and I stapled burlap to the walls of my booth. It made a huge difference! It made the furniture stand out more and made it look more like a room. I still need to put so much more in there. It still isn't close to being done.

The good news is while we were there cleaning up a lady came to my booth and told the owner of the store if someone would deliver the chest (in my booth!) she would buy it that day. Of course,we said we'd deliver it! I am going to work on buying more chests to paint. You can usually find a good deal on them and they are easy to paint and to haul around.

My family and I went to Florida last week to the beach. It was great to get away for a while. This is a pic on the first day of a Bull Shark cruising along the shore. Everyone had just been in the water right where it appeared just 30 minutes earlier. We are all so fortunate. We ran down the beach telling everyone and yelling to get out of the water. We were literally walking along beside the shark as he was swimming towards people. I grabbed my camcorder to film but because of the screen I couldn't tell what I was filming. Let's just say I'm a terrible shark filmer. But we did manage to snap some pics. The first pic is my son and sister's boyfriend.

About 30 minutes later this guy showed up. The lifeguard said it was a Bull Shark. You can't tell from the pic but he was big!

Everyone got out of the water and he kept on going. Scary!

I hopefully will be painting some more furniture very soon. My daughter has been sick so that's been put on hold. I think I am going to paint a friend's hutch in return for a nice dresser. It's a lot of work painting a hutch but if I get a free dresser I say it's worth it!
