I haven’t had the need to do that yet. I do as much non-destructive editing in Photoshop as possible which helps in the event that I need to up the resolution of an element. However, there are a lot of elements that don’t need to be resized. For example, a 1200px wide background image on a desktop site is plenty big enough to use on a mobile site at retina resolution. And, with so much happening in CSS these days rather than images I haven’t had the need to make an entire mockup at retina size first. That doesn’t mean that I won’t ever change my workflow, it just means that right now I don’t work that way. If that system works best for him (and I assume others, too) then by all means that is what he (and they) should do.

Helpful article – thanks Ben.

I was reading an article about Tim Van Damme and he said he designs for retina first, then creates a different version for normal resolutions.

Do you agree with me that we should design for retina first and then create a separate document for normal resolution?

Thanks! We are working on a project based on Roots and about to start another with Twitter Bootstrap included on our own. If I feel like I have any good insights once we wrap those up I’ll let you know.
