       <title>Smith Named Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Week</title>

       <description>WALTHAM, Mass. - Bentley University senior Kara Smith (West Springfield, Mass.) has been named the Northeast-10 women&amp;#39;s soccer Goalkeeper of the Week, the league announced on Monday.In three matches last week, Smith made 24 saves and allowed just two goals as Bentley went 0-1-2 to open its season. She played every minute and posted a 0.57 goals against average and a .923 save percentage. She made eight saves in a 1-1 draw with Le Moyne last Friday, and made seven saves and recorded her eighth career shutout in a scoreless draw with Saint Michael&amp;#39;s on Sunday.Smith and the Falcons are back in action Tuesday afternoon with a home match against Dowling.</description>

       <description>COLCHESTER, Vt. - Bentley University and Saint Michael&amp;#39;s played to a scoreless draw Sunday afternoon in Northeast-10 women&amp;#39;s soccer play. It&amp;#39;s the second straight tie for Bentley, who rallied to earn a point against Le Moyne last Friday.Shots on goal were close as Saint Michael&amp;#39;s had seven on net to Bentley&amp;#39;s six. The Falcons outshot Saint Michael&amp;#39;s 3-2 in overtime and had two corner kicks in OT to the Purple Knights&amp;#39; one.Senior goalie Kara Smith (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) made seven saves on the afternoon, giving her 24 over the first three games. The Falcons&amp;#39; record goes to 0-1-2 both overall and in conference action. Their next game is Tuesday afternoon at home against Dowling.</description>

       <title>Bentley Splits on Day 2 of Bentley Invitational; All-Tourney Honors for Farah &amp;amp; Kraft</title>

       <description>WALTHAM, Mass. -- Bentley University seniors Maitlyn Kraft (New Braunfels, Texas/St. Mary&amp;#39;s Hall) and Andrea Farah (Miami, Fla./Palmer Trinity HS) both earned All-Tournament honors as the Bentley Invitational volleyball tournament concluded Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center.Bentley, 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the tournament, split its two matches on Saturday. The Falcons cruised to a 3-0 victory over Holy Family University in their first match of the day and saw their three-match winning streak halted with a 3-1 loss to the University of New Haven in their final tournament match.There were no ties and no lead changes throughout the Holy Family match with the scores 25-19, 25-16 and 25-12. Bentley scored the first five points of the first set, the first six en route to an 11-1 lead in the second and the first four (and 13 of the first 16) in the third.Farah, against the Tigers, hit .370 with 13 kills, and Kraft helped lead the defense with 13 digs. Senior setter Kelly Mee (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North HS) finished with 30 assists, senior Alaura Berry (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo HS) made five blocks and sophomore Grace Conner (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Marcos HS) contributed seven kills and three aces.New Haven improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the tournament with a 25-15, 25-14, 24-26, 25-11 win over the Falcons. Junior setter Chelsey Alpough (Torrance, Calif.) led the way for the Chargers with 37 assists and 15 digs, and both Keidy Candelaria (Vega Baja, P.R.) and Elizabeth Akinbiyl (Miami Gardens, Fla.) made 14 kills.Berry and Farah led Bentley in kills, with 11 and 10, respectively.        <description>MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Paced by senior captain Lauren Lesniak (Dracut, Mass./Dracut HS) and freshman Ashley Nichols (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor HS), the Bentley University women&amp;#39;s cross country team opened its season by winning the Shacklette Invitational Saturday morning at Saint Anselm College.Bentley, with a team score of 33, finished 29 points in front of second-place Southern New Hampshire (62). Merrimack College and the host institution tied for third in the seven-team meet with 66 points.Lesniak finished third with a 5,000-meter time of 19:57.1, and Nichols, making her collegiate debut, followed in fourth (20:15.4).        <description>NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- Senior tailback Everette Benjamin (Massapequa, N.Y.) rushed for 132 yards and scored two touchdowns as Central Connecticut State scored the game&amp;#39;s final 38 points en route to a 45-14 victory over Bentley University in non-conference college football Saturday afternoon at Arute Field.Bentley, 0-2 for just the second time in the program&amp;#39;s history, controlled the ball for nearly 11 minutes in the first quarter and scored a pair of touchdowns in the first 88 seconds of the second quarter to take a 14-7 lead over the Division I Blue Devils.However, Central Connecticut countered on its next possession, with a 13-yard pass from junior Gunnar Jesperson (Atascadero, Calif.) to junior Paul DeBenedittis (Bronx, N.Y.) capping a 13-play, 72-yard drive that evened the game at 14 apiece.Central broke the logjam in the waning moments of the second quarter, with 10 points in the final 80 seconds putting the home team up 24-14 at the break. A two-yard run by junior Nate Pagan Newington, Conn.), the final play of an 11-play, 80-yard drive, gave the Blue Devils the lead, and Central quickly regained the ball on an interception by freshman Chris Linares (New Britain, Conn.) on the Falcons&amp;#39; first play after falling behind.The first of three picks thrown by Bentley senior Bryant Johnson (Hopedale, Mass./Milford HS) led to a 30-yard field goal by senior Joe Izzo (Southington, Conn.) with four seconds left on the first-half clock and sent the Falcons into the half down ten.Bentley managed only one first down in the third quarter, and Central Connecticut took advantage of an interception and a blocked punt to break the game open, 38-14. &amp;nbsp;Benjamin scored both touchdowns for the Blue Devils in the quarter, a two-yard run with 4:42 left and a 23-yard pass from Jesperson with 2:52 remaining.Down 7-0 after Central Connecticut scored on its first possession of the game, Bentley held the ball for the final 6:40 of the opening quarter, moving from its own 72 to the Central 2. After switching ends, sophomore running back Jack Pizzotti (Melrose, Mass./Melrose HS) scored on the opening play of the second quarter and junior Paul Branco (Brockton, Mass./Brockton HS) added the point-after to even the game at 7-7.Junior linebacker Matt Welch (Woburn/Woburn HS) recovered a CCSU fumble 14 seconds later and Bentley had the ball back at the Central 25. It took just three plays for the Falcons to capitalize with Johnson connecting with senior Kyle Tuthill (Ft. Juniors Steve Hopkins (Waltham, Mass./Waltham HS) and Don Hopkins (Waltham, Mass./Waltham HS) each were in on 10 stops, with Steve also recovering a fumble.Benjamin gained his 132 yards on 24 carries, and also had three catches for 28 yards. Jesperson finished 18 of 24 passing, for 181 yards and two scores.Johnson, after a strong start, finished 16 of 32 for 117 yards, with Malone leading eight Falcon receivers with five catches for 49 yards. Central Connecticut, 1-1 this season after posting a 9-3 record a year ago, amassed 525 yards in total offense and 32 first downs while Bentley was limited to 207 yards and 16 first downs.        <description>WALTHAM, Mass. -- Senior Lauren Lesniak (Dracut/Dracut HS) will be the captain of the 2010 Bentley University women&amp;#39;s cross country team, and classmate Sean Reagan (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus HS) will serve as captain of the men&amp;#39;s cross country team, head coach Ed Lyons announced.In addition to being team leaders, both are standouts in the classroom with grade point averages among the highest of any of Bentley&amp;#39;s approximately 500 student-athletes, and each earned Academic All-Northeast-10 honors during their junior year. Lesniak majors in accounting major and Reagan&amp;#39;s major is corporate finance and accounting.Lesniak was the top runner for the women&amp;#39;s team in five of six races last fall. She placed 17th in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships to earn third-team All-Northeast-10 honors, and was 19th in the NCAA Division II East Regional.Reagan was generally one of the team&amp;#39;s top five runners last season. He placed 43rd in the Northeast-10 Championships and 44th in the NCAA Division II East Regional. Both Bentley teams launch their season on Saturday with the Shacklette Invitational at Saint Anselm College.In the preseason rankings, the Falcon men were fifth in the NCAA Division II East Region and sixth in the conference. Farah swung at a .292 success rate and came within one dig of a double-double.        <description>BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Junior David Carlsson and senior Rumen Kerekov scored second half goals as C.W. Post topped Bentley University 2-0 on Friday afternoon in a non-conference men&amp;#39;s soccer matchup. The first 51-plus minutes of the game were scoreless until Carlsson put the Pioneers up 1-0 with his first goal of the season. Carlsson shot from 18 yards away and tucked the ball in the upper left hand corner of the net.In the 67th minute, Kerekov made it a two-goal game after taking a pass from senior Kohsro Panah and scoring from nine yards out.C.W. Post tested Bentley goalie Mike Nikiforov (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) often with 10 shots on goal, while Bentley only mustered three shots on target. The hosts also held a big advantage in corner kicks, 9-2.The win is the first of the season for C.W. Post, who improve to 1-2 on the season, while the Falcons lose for the first time in 2010 and fall to 2-1.Bentley is back in action on Wednesday afternoon when they host Bridgeport at 3:00 p.m.</description>
