How to Create A BBM Channel

BlackBerry 10 Devices: 

1. Within Channels, select the menu icon, and choose Create Channel.

2. Pick a Channel Name. This is where you will input the name of your Channel (i.e. Little, Big City Living). Typically this is the name of your brand, store, band etc. This name is how customers can search (functionality coming soon) you, so make sure it is intuitive.

3. Upload your Channel Avatar. This image will represent your Channel. Note: Image size will vary by device. For all devices the maximum file size is 32Kb.

4. (Optional) Write a short Channel Description. This is a free form description of your channel and its content. This is a great spot to tell your audience about your channel and your story/store/product. You can edit this section at any time.

5. From the drop down menu selection your Country and Channel Category. The Country and Category information will be used to enhance future search results.

6. Insert your Contact Details.

7. Finally, set your Channel Settings: Enable BBM Chat with your Channel Members (note you can turn this feature On and Off at anytime in the channel settings). You can enable or disable channel members from commenting on your posts by selecting On or Off respectively. Approving member comments before they post is not support for External Beta however this can be actioned through the Web Portal (https://cmc.channels.blackberry.com/…al/get-started).

8. When you are happy with your Channel set up, select Save.

BBOS Devices:

How to update to BlackBerry 10.1:

Recently, Z10 BlackBerry smartphone users can download the application has Skype on BlackBerry World on machines and normal use. However, Skype is only supported for the machine running the BlackBerry 10 OS 10.1. Thus, up to this point, two new smartphones running the BlackBerry OS was 10.1 Q10 and Z10 have been supporting this utility app.

Telkom GCEO Sipho Maseko today announced the appointment of Dr Miriam Altman as Head of Strategy of Telkom Group with effect from 1 June 2013.

Dr Altman will support the development and execution of Telkom’s strategy and will report directly to the GCEO.

Dr Altman was an Executive Director at the HSRC from 2002 – 2010, where she played a leading role in its transformation and established its highly influential work on employment. She is a member of the National Planning Commission and will continue to serve on the NPC.

“The appointment of a seasoned executive with strategy and policy development experience is another building block in Telkom’s turnaround process,” said Mr Maseko. “This supports the recent appointment of Dr Brian Armstrong as the Chief Operating Officer and enhances the expertise of our leadership team.”

“Telkom is in the process of reviewing its strategy to ensure that it delivers on its mandate and restores its financial health. The objective of Telkom’s turnaround is to deliver sustainable performance. Several areas of the business are under review, and a coordinated set of initiatives are already underway.

“Going forward, this strategy will require a strong leadership team with the ability to ensure performance and execution and gain the support of all its stakeholders. We believe that Dr Altman will be able to contribute towards achieving that objective.”

Mr Maseko said Dr Altman was a strong strategic leader, and has vast experience in leading a range of policy processes on behalf of the public and private sectors, mostly focused on industrial strategy, labour markets, and employment creation.

Commenting on her appointment, Dr Altman said: “Telkom is a national asset and has a lot to offer all South Africans, including its shareholders. I am excited to be joining the company and look forward to contribute meaningfully towards its turnaround.”

Dr Altman has a BA in economics from McGill University, an MPhil from the University of Cambridge and a PhD in economics from the University of Manchester.
