Welcome to our second designer spotlight, this time we feature UK Illustrator Nik Holmes aka ZombieDollars. Nik’s designs are influenced by horror, film, gaming and pop culture. He’s obviously an extremely talented illustrator and a true master of the mashup (Zombies x The Big Lebowski, Grand Theft Auto x Dr Who and Bambi x Aliens, oh my!) Nik’s creations are funny, clever and/or just plain awesome. Designer Spotlight: WinterArtwork

Welcome to the first (of many) designer spotlights. Obviously we display a lot of t-shirts on Best T-Shirts Ever, but we thought it was about time to give some kudos to the designers themselves. Each spotlight post will feature one designer and ten of their designs. First up is one of our favourites, known as WinterArtwork.

WinterArtwork’s designs are often inspired by pop culture media such as Firefly, Game of Thrones, Dexter, Harry Potter and Star Wars among others. Also in the mix are some awesome gaming designs inspired by Mortal Kombat, Portal and Nintendo. WinterArtwork excels in faux mascots mashups which are some of the most popular and best selling tees in their portfolio. Popular belief says that the four natural elements consist of earth, wind, fire and water, though the savvy ones know what really makes the world work. One might want to be a bit wary about messing with the One True Ring, but wielding the force and blasting spells while travelling through the vast passage of time is enough to make any geeks world function just fine. Still, one would have to wonder what the fifth element of Eastern tradition would be – perhaps adamantium claws?

The Millennium Falcor T-Shirt

This iconic t-shirt brings together the best of two childhood favorites – Star Wars and The Neverending Story – in one epic piece of clothing. Han Solo might have a bit of trouble flying the Kessel Run on the back of a non-atmospherically-sealed Luck Dragon and it seems like there would be little room for a smuggler’s cargo, meaning a change of occupation might be in order. Either way, he certainly appears to be having quite a bit of fun. With the Death Star lurking in the background, one has to wonder whether it is just looming as it appears to be, or if the whole lot of them are fleeing The Nothing.

Dark Lord Happy Hour T-Shirt

Where do you go when those pesky chosen ones destroy your Death Star / Ring of Power / Horcruxes? You go where everybody fears your name – the local Dark Lord pub. Happy hour quickly turns to “un”-happy hour when these three arrive and, unless the bartender enjoys a good force choke, the drinks better be on the house.

This t-shirt is a simple black-and-white design with a simple purpose – to let people know that even the evil-bad-guys need to take some time out to relax. A few drinks later and this trio of doom may well be finding themselves exchanging ideas and coming up with new-and-improved ways to fight their respective nemeses.

Falcon Girl T-Shirt

Falcon Girl is a creamy blend of princess refinement and the rude-and-lude behavior that it takes to survive in the wastelands. One has to think that if this gun-toting, cigarette-smoking character were the true incarnation of Princess Leia in the Star Wars films, she and Han Solo would have had a bit more in common. Of course, it’s probably likely she would have ended up dating Chewbacca in the end, all things considered.

There are monsters whose names bring tremors to the hearts of men: Godzila, Mothra, Rodan, King Ghidorah… Cookie Monster? That’s right! Samurai Skeleton Warrior / Angel of Death T-Shirts

Today we feature the awesome Samurai Skeleton Warrior T-Shirt and Angel of Death T-Shirt designed by Paul Fleming at Oblivion.

Background

Established in 2009 by designer Paul Fleming, Oblivion offer unique designer t-shirts with an emphasis on quality at an affordable price. With many years experience and a passion for design, starting his own brand was an obvious choice. Oblivion is based in Manchester, England and ship world-wide.

Designs

The Samurai Skeleton Warrior T-Shirt (pictured left) features a skeletal samurai warrior dressed in traditional armor. It also features red kanji text which has an aged / worn appearance (I must ask Paul for a translation!) The simple, yet striking black and red print works quite well on the white tee.

The Angel of Death T-Shirt (picture right) features a statuesque, skeletal angel highlighted by the light of a full moon. The detail in this design is amazing, just have a look at the flesh coming away from the arms, the gown, the wings, even the tree and the moon are all highly detailed – it’s obvious that a lot of time and effort go into these tees.

Browsing the Oblivion web site I also came across a number of other products, such as posters and badges, as well as some pretty funky earrings and bracelets – which are definitely worth checking out while you’re on the site.
