I’m not normally a fan of matching outfits, but there is something about the summer time and fun dresses that seems natural to match or at least coordinate mother daughter dresses. The fun, flirty styles that are great for mom can be found in baby clothes in a more appropriate style, but still match to mom’s style.

The key to finding a nice matching set of summer dresses is not having them be identical, but pair nicely. You can select dresses for you and your little girl based on color, patterns, fabrics and overall style or theme (nautical, tropical, country, etc). A cute checkered dress for her would go well with a sexy gingham print for you. Or you can do stripes, like navy blue and white stripes with red accents for both of you. However you choose, make sure you get the right junior plus size dress for your daughter and you, to make the dress age appropriate.

With all the details that go into planning a wedding, the one thing that is pretty simple is the wedding jewelry, or at least it can be. Many couples these days are opting for newer alternative metals, like tungsten rings or cobalt rings for their wedding bands and there is good reason.

These new metals are less expensive and more durable than traditional wedding rings made of gold or platinum. Tungsten, titanium and cobalt are all durable metals with a sleek look. They don’t scratch as easily and they truly look amazing. Tungsten tends to be darker in color, a nice dark grey that looks good with most skin tones and is a little more trendy than gold. Titanium is slightly lighter and both look and weight than tungsten and cobalt is the lightest, very similar to platinum. Consider these metals if you want to save money for your honeymoon or impending life together rather than on putting it all towards your left hand.

When it comes to looking for quality mens jewelry, consider first the man, then the style. Is he rugged and of the outdoors type or is he more of a clean, indoors man? Well, one constant that bridges the gap between these two types of man, is benchmark rings. These rings have the quality and namesake that any man can feel good about.

Benchmark rings offer the precision craftsmanship the company has been known for and they provide wedding bands in a variety of finishes and various types of metals including; white gold, yellow gold, tungsten, platinum, palladium, and titanium. Your man will surely benefit from their no fee Lifetime Warranty which is a relief if anything ever happens to your wedding bands. All you need to do is send it in and they will repair or replace it free of charge. Now that’s what I call setting the bench.

Before you start thinking about baby clothes, it’s a good idea to think about the engagement and the wedding, or rather the marriage. While there is no one right way to building a life and family, there is something special and irreplaceable about keeping things in order. Meet, fall in love, get engaged, get married and then have kids. Not ideal for all, but for many this is the path to bliss.

If you’re in search for engagement rings orange county, there are a number of good jewelers to choose from, but my personal recommendation is to go with someone who has a long established relationship in the community, who has a core set of family values and stands behind their designs and jewelry with the pride and ownership of a true craftsman. Big box retailers are appealing, but they cannot give you the same level of service as those who live and breathe their business and think of each customer as an extension of the family.

My sister made the cutest tutu for my daughter and my niece, (they are about a year apart). To make this fun and easy outfit, you’ll need a few basic supplies. You’ll want to get at least five yards of tulle in whatever color you like, (you can mix in several colors if you choose or keep it all one color), which you can get at Walmart. You’ll need a good pair of scissors or sewing shears, elastic bands, ribbon and a tape measure. The ribbon you’ll want to get to match or contrast the colors of tulle fabric you selected and you can get as creative as you want with different widths and types.

First measure the waist with ribbon and mark off the ends with knots. You will be adding the material in between the two knots. Next spread out your tulle and begin to fold the tulle length wise and then cut the ends off each side to make them even. Measure about four to five inches and cut these into sections. Once you’ve cut your sections, unfold them and refold in half lengthwise and then cut them so you have two equal halves. Take these new cut sections which will be used to go onto the ribbon. Pull the tulle by the ribbon and loop the material and pull it up and through itself so that the loop surrounds the ribbon. Continue to do this from one knot to the next. Vary color or length of material as you wish. Add in ribbons throughout and then secure the to knots to close up the tutu. You have an easy inexpensive no sew tutu.

My husband and I are planning a few trips coming up where we will be spending a night or two away. Two of these trips we will be leaving our little girl with family overnight and the other trip we will be taking together, bringing her with us. So the natural question raised was how best do we manage her sleeping away. We have a fairly light and portable bassinet we use, but this still seemed like too much to cart around when we take her with us as we will be flying.

So, I found a great option by Summer Infant that I’ve tested out a few nights now and am pretty satisfied with. It’s very compact which is ideal for travelling on a plane. It folds up and has a nice carry handle. When opened it has nice locking features to keep the legs braced open and secure. An added bonus is it also comes with a night light and white noise machine. It’s marketed as a co-sleeper which it works okay as this, but only if you have a very large bed or don’t mind rolling into the metal frame now and then. But as a portable crip, I give it two thumbs up!

One of the best ways to help your little one beat the heat is with humidifiers. These products are truly a godsend. Not only do they help stave off and fight through colds and coughs, helping break up mucus and decongest your baby’s airways, but the added humidity helps keep their skin moist and cool.

You can find all sorts of humidifiers at your local pharmacy, department store or online. Growing up with one of these myself, I loved the cool mist and definitely felt and slept better, especially during the dry and hot months or in the winter when the heater runs all night. My favorite humidifier is Crane, these inexpensive and stylish humidifiers work great and look like a piece of art rather than an ugly ufo. They come in a few different colors and are simple to operate. The best part is the tip, which gently shoots the mist up into the air rather than pooling around the base. Oh and did I mention, these are very quiet too.

So today is the day that we move our baby from the bassinet in the master bedroom to the crib in the nursery and it is a step that we thought would be a no brainer and easy as pie. Well, for the baby it has been a non issue, she sleeps pretty soundly just about anywhere, except of course all the cute noises she makes when she’s dreaming. The hard part has been on us, the parents and the fear of SIDS.

The best way to get a good night’s sleep is with the assurance provided by video security systems or baby monitors with video capability so that you can easily and quickly see that your baby is safe and sound asleep. Make sure that you put the system in a safe place and secure it so that it can’t fall on top of your baby, but still gives you the best view of her while she’s in her crib. And, make sure that it has both an electrical source and battery backup in case the power goes out.

With Summer around the corner, now is the time to start getting your babies summer wardrobe ready to go so that when that pool day or beach day hits, you and your little one are prepared to take on the sun. One of the cutest items I’ve seen is the flower cover up by Gymboree.

This adorable piece is made of terry cloth and is very absorbent for wet pool days or a romp at the beach. The flower petal hood is not only cute, but it actually provides a good amount of coverage from the sun shading your little one’s eyes and face from direct sunlight. The zipper makes it great for quickly covering up when the temperature changes or if she’s just had too much fun in the sun and needs added protection from the wind and sun. It also coordinates perfectly with a cute pair of flip flops and swim suit. All she’ll need after that is a cute pair of sunglasses and she’s all set for her first day in the sun.

As a new mom, I couldn’t be more thankful for the very handy and nutritious snacks known as food squeezes. These nutritional pouches of pureed baby food are perfect for babies beginning solid foods and moms love them. They are fairly mess free and you can get them in a range of organic fruits and vegetable combinations. They are so easy to use and my little one absolutely loves holding onto them with her little hands and squeezing the pouches herself to get the tasty goods inside.

There is no preparation needed and these little packs of goodness are packed full of vitamins and necessary nutrients for a growing baby. Plus, you can’t beat the portability of these pouches. They don’t spill and they can be found in gluten free versions, each one rich in protein, complex carbohydrates and other vitamins and minerals. If you haven’t tried these out yet, you’re missing out. They are so good, I include them in my own diet from time to time when I need a quick healthy snack on the run – literally (I bring along a pouch on my long training runs for a quick and healthy energy boost.)
