It could also be argued that music videos are not viral in the true sense of the word.

In the case of PSY – GANGNAM STYLE however – this is clearly an exception after becoming the first video to reach 1 billion views on YouTube by a relatively unknown artist! This achievement really had more to do with a viral sensation of the Gangnam Style dance and the catchy tune and not the traditional promotional values of a hit song.
