The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is headed back to the midwest this weekend for the 2009 running of the Lifelock.com 400 at Chicagoland Speedway, not to be confused with the Lifelock 400 ran at Michigan International Speedway earlier this season. It was an exciting weekend of racing over the 4th of July, as Tony Stewart added to his points lead with his second win of the season at the Coke Zero 400, and he just so happens to be one of two drivers that have won here at Chicago multiple times. For Stewart to add to his win total he will have to hold off defending champion Kyle Busch. The race this weekend marks just the ninth race ran on this track, as it was first introduced back in 2001 as the Tropicana 400. With the race scheduled to get underway this Saturday night, here is a look at the three drivers I feel have the best shot at coming away with a win.

Jimmie Johnson +450 to win at Sportsbook.com: Johnson has not won here at Chicagoland Speedway, but has only finished outside of the top 6 once, and that was because of an accident back in 2007. Last year Johnson finished 2nd for the 2nd time at this track, and its only a matter of time before this guy wins at this racetrack. Johnson has just two wins on the season, but he has really raced well lately, including a 2nd place finish last week at the Coke Zero 400. I think if you are looking for a sure pick this weekend then Johnson is your guy, as I will be putting my money on the No.48 car.

Jeff Gordon +800 to win at Sportsbook.com: Gordon is currently sandwiched in between Johnson and Stewart in the points standings, and the way he is racing this season he is a threat to win each and every time he steps on the track. After a strong 2nd place finish at the Lenox Industrial Tools 301 a couple of weeks ago, Gordon had a little more trouble at the Coke Zero 400 finishing 28th. This week Gordon heads to Chicagoland where Chevrolet cars have dominated, as Chevy cars have won 6 of the 8 races ran on this track, making both Gordon and Johnson that much more of a threat this weekend. One of those wins came from Gordon back in 2006, and it marked the 4th time Gordon has finished in the top 5 at this track. I think Gordon is right there with a chance to win this weekend, and if Johnson is unable to take the checkered flag I think Gordon will be there to take home the win.

Kurt Busch +1200 to win at Sportsbook.com: Busch will try and become just the second Dodge driver to make his way to victory lane at Chicagoland, but with the way Kurt is racing, I think he has a great shot to surprise yet again this weekend. All the attention usually falls on brother Kyle Busch, but Kurt is the one running better this season, as Kurt sits in 4th place in the points standings while his brother Kyle sits in 8th. In eight starts at Chicagoland Busch has finished in the top 10 5 times, and with the way this guy is racing I think he is the best sleeper in the field. So if value is what you are looking for in your bet, I think Busch is your best option.

The Navy Midshipmen finished up the 2008 season at 8-5, and have now won at least 8 games in each of the last 6 seasons. Navy finished the regular season at 7-4, but was unable to come away with a win in their EagleBank Bowl game against Wake Forest. This year the Midshipmen will have to keep the streak of 8 win seasons a live with just 11 returning starters, but they were able to win 8 games last year with just 12 starters back. Here is a quick look at both sides of the football, plus my prediction on how I see the Midshipmen finishing up the season this year.

On offense the Midshipmen have just 4 starters back from last season, but a number of players are ready to make their mark on this side of the ball. At quarterback the Midshipmen will likely hand the starting job to junior Ricky Dobbs, and while it normally can be difficult for a quarterback in his first year as a starter, because of how much the Midshipmen run the football he should have a pretty easy transition into the starting role. Plus Dobbs played in 7 games last season, and was a force on the ground running for 495 yards and 8 scores. One concern is the Midshipmen lost their top two backs from last season, and thats over 2,000 yards and 12 touchdowns this team will have to replace. Seniors Bobby Doyle and Cory Finnerty are the top two candidates to fill the void, but even though Navy is known for doing a good job at replacing backs, I don’t think these two guys will be able to put up those kind of numbers. Only one receiver had more than 4 catches last season in Tyree Barnes, but he is no longer with the team. Juniors Mike Schupp and Mario Washington are expected to start, but they will be used more as blockers than receivers. One plus for the Midshipmen is three of the four starters that are back on offense just so happen to be on the offensive line. The right side remain intact with senior guard Curtis Bass and Junior tackle Matt Molloy, while senior guard Osei Asante will fill the void at left guard along side returning starting left tackle Jeff Battipaglia. Sophomore Brady DeMell is expected to start at center, and he should be a solid option for years to come. Bet the Midshipmen this season at Sportsbook.com.

For those of you looking to do some college football betting this season, now is the perfect time to take advantage of the $500 match bonus going on at BetUS.

The Midshipmen should have one of the better defenses this season, as they have 7 returning starters back and plenty of talent to fill the voids. Up front all three starters are back, including the outstanding duo of seniors Matt Nechak and Nate Frazier. Sophomore defensive end Jabaree Tuani had a pretty solid freshman campaign with 1.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for a loss, and they are expecting even better numbers this season. At linebacker the Midshipmen have three returning starters, including two very good players in seniors Ross Pospisil and Clint Sovie. Tony Haberer is expected to become a full time starter at the open inside backer spot, and he has performed well when given the chance. In the secondary the only starter back is junior free safety Wyatt Middleton, and he will likely be joined by sophomore free safety Kwesi Mitchell. At the two open corner spots senior Blake Carter and junior Kevin Edwards are expected to take over and how well they play could really determine just how good this defense is this season. Bet college football this season at Sportsbook.com.

My 2009 Prediction: 8-5 Overall. I think that if the Midshipmen play well at home their schedule will work out in their favor. It won’t be an easy start to the season with two of their first three games on the road against Ohio State and Pittsburgh, but it gets easier as the season goes on. If the offense struggles to replace the production at running back I could see the Midshipmen dropping all the way down to around 6 wins.

It hasn’t been pretty for the Army Black Knights lately, as they haven’t had a winning season since 1996. In 2008 the Black Knights finished up the season at 3-9, but four of their losses were by 9 points or less. This year the Black Hawks have just 12 returning starters, but if they find a way to win the close games they could end winning more than they lose. The team also has a new head coach in Rich Ellerson, and it will be interesting to see if he can turn this program aroun. Here is a look at what the Black Knights are expected to send out on the field this season on both sides of the ball.

On offense the Black Knights have just 5 starters back from last year, and will once again run an option attack, as Ellerson plans to run the triple option attack this season. Last year junior Chip Bowden and Carson Williams both spent time under center, and both are back this season, but don’t be surprised if sophomore Max Jenkins doesn’t get a chance to show what he can do as well. The Black Knights aren’t much for passing the football, as they averaged just 52 yards a game last season, and don’t expect to throw it that much this year. They did lose their leading rusher from last season in Collin Mooney, who ran for a team best 1,339 yards and 8 scores. Look for Senior Ian Smith and junior Patrick Mealy to get the bulk of the carries that went to Mooney last year, but the Black Knights also get some help from Bowden when he is under center, as he ran for 572 yards last season. The Black Knights are going to be very inexperienced on the offensive line, as they have just one starter back from last season, in senior right tackle Jason Johnson. Joining Johnson on the right side will likely be junior Seth Reed, while junior Mikel Weich and sophomore Brad Kelly take over on the right side. The team looks set on junior Zachary Peterson at center to round out this group, but there has to be a lot of concern on how well these guys will step in and play this season. If the option is working the Black Knights can control the football and the game, but if the offense struggles to score this team is going to have a hard time winning football games. Bet the Black Nights this season at Sportsbook.com.

Need some extra cash for the upcoming NCAA football betting season? Now is the perfect time to take advantage of the $500 match bonus going on at BetUS.

On defense the Black Knights have 7 starters coming back, but this was a unit that allowed 34 points a game last season. Up front the Black Knights have a couple of really good players in junior defensive end Joshua McNary and senior defensive tackle Victor Ugenyi. McNary had an outstanding 69 tackles and 4.5 sacks from the end position, and this year they are hoping to get even more out of this guy. At linebacker the Black Knights have just one returning starter in junior middle linebacker Stephen Anderson, but he is very good at his position. Two sophomores are expected to take over on the outside in Andrew Rodriguez and Steve Erzinger. In the secondary the Black Knights have three starters back and it looks as though junior Desmond Lamb will be the one to step in at the open strong safety spot. Junior Donovan Travis returns at free safety, while junior Jordan Trimble and senior Mario Hill hold down the two corner spots again this season. Overall this unit should improve from last season, but they are going to need some really good play from their young talent, especially in sophomores Rodrigquez and Erzinger. Do all your college football betting this season at Sportsbook.com.

My 2009 Prediction: 5-7 Overall. Being an Independent team its pretty much all or nothing for the Black Knights, and though I think they improve from 2008, I see them falling just short when it comes to being bowl eligible.

Two of the games start at 2:05 PM EST, so be sure to jump in as soon as possible so you don’t miss the afternoon games. No 20* today, but 20* plays currently on a 33-18 while overall picks are +2487 units over the last 60 days! Grab my package now at the Jack Jones home page or take a look at some of the baseball picks being released by our other top handicappers.

Free Premium Picks: I’m going to take a little break from the comment for a free pick offer. Instead I’m going to release one of my premium picks as the free pick over the next couple of days. The comment offer will be back shortly! You are still more than welcome to comment on today’s pick, I appreciate the feedback.

Free Pick for Thursday

So I know I’ve had this disclaimer about the free picks being the weakest plays and that I don’t play them, but I really put 1% of my bankroll on these games in comparison to 3-4% on the regular and BEST BETS. I just don’t want people getting ridiculous on the free picks when they aren’t intended to be the highest percentage of winners that I offer.

You can find more great winners every day by visiting our sports betting forum. Handicapper Steve Janus won the college football title here at the site, and he’s giving away all of his baseball plays for FREE in the forum.

Take St. Louis over Milwaukee this afternoon as Joel Pineiro continues to pitch well for the Cardinals. Pineiro is just 1-1 in his last 3 starts, but he has a 1.99 ERA and a 0.84 WHIP in those games. Meanwhile, Manny Parra, Milwaukee’s starter on Thursday comes into the game with a 7.52 ERA and 1.92 WHIP in 13 starts this season, which includes an 0-2 record, 16.67 ERA and 2.82 WHIP in his last 3 starts. St. Louis won the first game of the series while the Brewers took game 2. I expect the Cardinals to finish up this series with a win over a struggling Parra and the Brewers.

The Bowling Green Falcons were picked by many to win the Mid-American East division last season, but ended up falling just short as they finished 4-4 in the MAC play and just 6-6 overall. The 2009 season doesn’t look as bright for the Falcons, as only 10 returning starters are back and the team is under a bit of a transition with the addition of new head coach Dave Clawson, who is changing things on both sides of the ball. Here is a look what the Falcons are expected to look like on both sides of the ball this season.

On offense the Falcons bring back 7 starters, and most importantly for a unit under transition is an experienced leader under center, and the Falcons have just that in senior quarterback Tyler Sheehan, who threw for 2,610 yards and 20 touchdowns to just 9 interceptions last season. The Falcons lost their leading rusher from last season, but get back junior Willie Geter, who was off to a fast start before getting injured in the 2nd game of the season. If Geter can stay healthy he could end up being one of the best backs the MAC has to offer. At wide receiver the Falcons lost three of their top 5 threats from last season, but have some promise with seniors Freddie Barnes, Tyrone Pronty, and Chris Wright. The Falcons also have a very strong redzone threat in senior tight end Jimmy Scheidler who grabbed 7 touchdown passes last season as a backup. The offensive line returns the entire left side, but must replace both spots on the right side. While junior Tyler Donahue is expected to start at right tackle, the Falcons will likely turn to redshirt freshman Timothy German at right guard. The offense might end up putting better numbers than it did a year ago, but its a matter of can they score enough points to cover for the inexperience on the defensive side of things. Bet the Falcons this season at Sportsbook.com.

Looking for some extra cash for the upcoming NCAA football betting season? Why not take advantage of the $500 match bonus going on at BetUS. All you have to do is sign up and deposit at least $500 and you get an additional $500 for free.

On defense the Falcons have just 3 starters back, and what was a very strong part of the 2008 season will likely be a liability for this team in 2009. One bright spot for the Falcons defense this season should be the duo this team has at the safety position, as both seniors Jahmal Brown and PJ Mahone return to the starting lineup, and Mahone is by far the best player the Falcons have on this side of the ball. A couple of seniors in Robert Lorenzi and Roger Williams are expected to take over at the two corner positions, and neither have much experience to bank off of. At linebacker the Falcons bring back the only other returning starter in senior strong side backer Jerett Sanderson, and a couple more seniors in Cody Basler and James Schneider are expected to start at the other two spots. Where I see the Falcons having the most troubles in 2009 is up front on the offensive line, where juniors Angelo Magnone and Carlos Tipton will take over at the two end spots, and junior Nick Torresso and sophomore Kevin Alvarado hold down the two tackle spots. Even though the Falcons have 7 seniors expected in the starting lineup, its hard to imagine this group putting up anywhere near the numbers it did in 2008, plus it doesn’t help that the coaching staff is changing things around either. Bet the Mid-American Conference this season at Sportsbook.com.

My 2009 Prediction: Tie for 5th in MAC East Division. I could end up being completely wrong on this one, but I just don’t think this team will be able to compete at the same level as they did a year ago with so few starters back on the defensive side of things. I think the offense could really surprise some teams and could end up carrying this team to another solid season, but I think the Falcons will struggle to win the close games in 2009.

The Kent State Golden Eagles had a rough go of things in 2008, as they finished up the season at just 4-8, and they haven’t had a winning record since they finished 6-5 back in 2001. The Golden Eagles did show some promise at the end of the 2008 season with at home against Temple and a very surprising win on the road in their final game of the season over Buffalo. This year the Golden Eagles have 15 returning starters coming back, but they have a very difficult task ahead of them in trying to replace quarterback Julian Edelman, who not only threw for 1,820 yards but ran for a team best 1,370 yards and 13 touchdowns. Here is a look at what the Eagles are expected to send to the field on both sides of the ball, plus my prediction on where they will finish this season in the Mid-American Conference East division.

On offense the Golden Eagles have 8 starters back from last season, but the big story is whether or not sophomore quarterback Giorgio Morgan can come close to replacing the production of Edelman. Also in the mix at the quarterback spot is senior Anthony Magazu. The Golden Eagles are hoping to get a lot out of senior running back Eugene Jarvis, who had a solid season in 2008 running for 801 yards and 9 scores. Jarvis is also the top returning receiver from 2008, but the Golden Eagles need someone to step up and make the big plays. The two guys to look out for are junior Anthony Bowman (University of Iowa Transfer) and sophomore Kendrick Pressley. Other guys that could be a threat this season, is converted linebacker Jameson Konz and senior Phil Garner. On the offensive line the Golden Eagles plan on sticking redshirt freshman Ken Cleveland at left tackle, while the other four starters are all back from last year. Overall I expect the offense to fall off a bit from the near 29 points a game they scored last year, but this unit could surprise if Morgan is able to come in and play well at quarterback. Bet the Golden Eagles this season at Sportsbook.com.

For those of you looking to some NCAA football betting this season, now is the perfect time to take advantage of the $500 match bonus going on at BetUS.

The defense has 7 starters back from last year, and it’s looking as though there will be a lot of experience on this side of the ball, as all 11 starters are expected to be juniors and seniors. Up front the Golden Eagles return senior end Kevin Hogan, who led the team with 5 sacks last season, and his backup in junior Monte Simmons had 4.5 sacks. In the middle the Golden Eagles have two more seniors returning in Sam Frist and Aaron Hull, and while Frist is the better of the two Hull is no slouch either. At linebacker the Golden Eagles return a very strong talent in junior middle linebacker Cobrani Mixon, but will have to replace both outside linebackers. Senior Anthony Mirando and junior Dorian Wood are expected to take over, and both did play in limited action last season. In the secondary the Golden Eagles return the safety duo of juniors Dan Hartman and Brian Lainhart, but will need to find someone to play opposite of senior Danny Sadler at the corner position. It looks as though senior Kirk Belgrave has the early edge and should win the job, but if he fails sophomore Josh Pleasant could take over if needed. Overall this unit wasn’t very good in 2008 giving up 33 points a game, and while I don’t think they will be as bad as they were last season, I don’t think they are going to become a defensive power house either. Bet the Mid-American Conference this season at Sportsbook.com.

My 2009 Prediction: Tie for 5th in MAC East Division. There is a chance that the Golden Eagles could be the surprise team in 2009 and finish much higher than I have them predicted, but with a new quarterback and no proven weapon at the receiver position I think this team will struggle to put enough points on the board to win the close games.

After starting off the decade with six straight winning seasons, the Miami Redhawks looked primed to finish off the decade with four straight losing seasons after a very disappointing 2-10 season in 2008. The Redhawks have just 12 returning starters back in 2008, and its hard to imagine that this team that went 1-7 in Mid-American Conference play last season, is going to challenge for anything other than last place in the East division. Here is a quick look at what the Redhawks will look like on both sides of the ball in 2009, plus my prediction on where they will finish up in the MAC this season.

On offense the Redhawks return senior quarterback Daniel Raudabaugh, but he didn’t exactly have that great of season in 2008 to get fans excited about this year. Raudabaugh threw for 1,960 yards, but had just 8 touchdowns to 9 interceptions. Raudaugh should improve this season with the Redhawks bringing back their top four receivers from 2008. Junior Chris Givens is the biggest threat on the outside, as he easily led the team with 7 receiving touchdowns, and he will need to put up even better numbers if this offense is going to take off this season. The Redhawks also return their leading rusher from last season in junior Thomas Merriweather, but he is not the only option out of the backfield, as the Redhawks are pretty deep at this position. Two guys that could really make an impact are sophomores Jay Taylor and Wisconsin transfer Quincy Landingham. The offensive line returns just two starters in sophomore right guard Brandon Brooks and junior right tackle Bob Gulley. The Redhawks will stay young at the other 3 spots as junior Nate Williams takes over at left guard, while redshirt freshman Andrew Phelan takes over at left tackle and redshirt freshman Nick Kemper takes over in the middle at center. The talent is there to improve off this teams 18 point average last season, but I think the best of this group is a couple years away with only two seniors expected to start on this side of the ball. Bet the Redhawks this season at Sportsbook.com.

For those of you looking for some extra cash to bet on college football this season, head over to BetUS and take advantage of the $500 match bonus going on right now.

On defense the Redhawks return just 5 starters from last season, and unfortunately for this team they lost their top four tacklers on a unit that gave up 423 yards a game last season. While the Redhawks return both defensive tackles in senior Martin Channels and junior sean Redwine, they must replace both spots at defensive end. It looks as though the early edge goes to juniors Jordan Stevens and Morris Council. At linebacker the Redhawks have to replace all three starters, and a couple of freshmen in Luke Kelly and Austin Moore are expected to join forces with senior Caleb Bostic at this position. The Redhawks have three starers back in the secondary, but there really isn’t a lot to get excited about. Sophomore Cornelius Ward and senior Jeff Thompson are back at the two corner positions, while junior Peris Edwards comes in to start opposite of junior Jordan Gafford at the strong safety spot. The Redhawks are also young on this side of the ball with only 3 seniors expected to start, and if this team can show some progress the Redhawks could be primed for a huge turnaround in 2010. Bet the Mid-American Conference this season at Sportsbook.com.

My 2009 Prediction: 7th in MAC East Division. I think the Redhawks will be more competitive than they were in 2008, but as far as racking up more wins I don’t see this team winning more than 4 games this season. With so much talent expected to be back after this season, the Redhawks should have a lot to cheer about in a couple of years.

The Cards currently sit in first place on top of the NL Central standings with a 46-39 record. They took the first game of this series last night as Adam Wainwright was fabulous pitching into the 9th inning. The team leader, league’s best player and future 1st ballot hall of famer is Albert Pujols. His .336 batting average is staggering along with the 31 homers and 82 RBIs which are just silly good. Rookie Colby Rasmus has been helping out nicely of late as his numbers are climbing.. He is hitting .288 with 11 homers and 34 RBIs on the year. Ryan Ludwick does have 12 home runs and 44 RBIs but is hitting only .242 and has been poor overall. New acquisition Mark DeRosa is out for a while so the Cards will need other sources to step up. The man on the mound tonight is Todd Wellemeyer who in my mind is amongst the leagues most hittable pitchers. He is 7-7 on the season but fields a 5.44 ERA. His home/away and day/night starts are very similar. In his six June starts he went 1-3 with a 6.89 ERA and to be honest looked worse then that. In his two starts against the Brewers this season he is 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA. In order for St.Louis to win tonight they will need a big performance from “Albert The Great.” Expect Wellemeyer to get pounded and for the Brew Crew to be ready to play looking to even the series. This is a very good game to take. Today’s MLB betting lines are posted and they show the Brewers as -120 moneyline favorites against the Cardinals. The over/under for the game is set at 9.5 runs.

The Milwaukee Brewers are coming off a loss to St.Louis last night where they were simply silenced by Wainwright. The Crew is in second place in the NL Central currently two games behind the Cards. They have as good of a one-two punch as any team in baseball. Ryan Braun is in my mind a top five player in the game. He has 16 home runs, 58 RBIs and a .322 batting average. Prince Fielder is the other man in the middle and is an absolute monster at the plate. He has accrued 22 home runs and 76 RBIs this season while hitting .310 from the plate. Cory Hart and JJ Hardy have both been bitter disappointments this season but are talented enough to explode at any time. Mike Cameron has given this team a big power boost with 14 homers and 39 RBIs. Jeff Suppan gets the nod tonight. He is 5-6 with a 4.60 ERA on the season. Suppan is far worse at home then on the road. His home record is 1-5 with a 6.08 ERA while he is 4-1 with a 3.63 ERA on the road. His day/night numbers are very similar. In Jeff’s six June starts he went 2-2 with a 4,28 ERA and is also coming off a great start in early July when he went seven innings of four hit ball while only allowing one run against the Cubs. In two starts against the Cards this season he is 1-1 with a 4.22 ERA. My gut tells me Suppan is going to be very effective tonight. I also am predicting Ryan Braun has at least one home runs and a minimum three RBIs tonight. Something tells me the Brewers are going to come out like gang busters after last nights poor performance at home.

Haimo’s Hot Notes: The Cardinals are 9-3 in their last 12 Wednesday games while the Brewers are 12-5 in their last 17 Wednesday games. St.Louis is 6-4 in their last 10 games while Milwaukee is 4-6. Now, while most trends and numbers say to take the Cards tonight, my gut feeling and eye test tells me the Brewers need this game. These are the top two teams in the NL Central and the last thing the Crew needs is the Cards coming on here and flexing their muscle. When you reach a plateau like I have in my career you need to make calls like this…BEST BET Milwaukee Brewers, Lets roll.

The Temple Owls had some very high expectation going into the 2008 season, as they lost just two starters from the previous season, but things just didn’t go the Owls way as they finished up the season at 5-7. The Owls did finish tied for 2nd in the East division of the Mid-American Conference at 4-4, and it wasn’t as though the Owls played bad last season, as they lost three games on the final play, and spent four games without their starting quarterback. The Owls are once again primed for another strong season, as they have 15 starters coming back this season, and only have to deal with losing 16 letterman from last season. Here is a look at both sides of the ball plus my prediction on where they will finish up the 2009 season in the MAC.

The offense will be the biggest concern for the Owls heading into the 2009 season, as they lost their top passer from last season in Adam DiMichele. Junior quarterback Vaughn Charlton and sophomore Chester Stewart will battle it out for the starting job this season. Charlton, who redshirted last season, is likely the leading candidate, but Stewart did get the snaps last season when DiMichele was out because of injury. At running back the Owls return their leading rusher from last season in Kee-ayre Griffin, but it looks as though senior transfer Lamar McPherson has the edge heading into the season after a strong spring. At wide receiver the Owls also lost their top talent, as they will have to find a way to replace the 687 yards and 13 touchdowns provided by Bruce Francis last season. A lot is expected out of senior Jason Harper, who is the top returning receiver from last season, but the Owls are also hoping to get something out of sophomore James Nixon and junior Delano Green. The Owls do have senior tight end Steve Maneri back this season, and though he didn’t have a ton of catches last season he did provide 4 touchdown grabs for the Owls. On the offensive line the three returning starters back are all sophomores, and this group figures to only get better. Juniors Colin Madison and Derek Dennis are expected to fill the voids at right guard and right tackle. Whoever wins the job at quarterback between Charlton and Stewart, doesn’t have to make the big plays, but just needs to make smart decisions and keep from turning the ball over. Bet the Owls this season at Sportsbook.com.

Where the Owls are going to cause some damage this season is on the defensive side of the ball, as they have 9 starters back and some of the best talent at nearly every position in the MAC this season. It starts up front with a couple of senior studs on the defensive line in end Junior Galette and tackle Andre Neblett. A couple of solid sophomores will hold down the other two spots, as end Andrein Robinson and tackle Muhammad Wilkerson both had solid freshmen runs last season. At linebacker the Owls return all three starters led by the play of senior middle linebacker Alex Joseph, who was second on the team with 87 tackles last season. In the secondary the Owls just have one open position at corner and that spot looks to go to junior Daryl Robinson, as he joins a star studded group. Robinson will play opposite of one of the top corners in the MAC in Senior Jamal Schulters, who tied for the team lead with 3 interceptions last season. The two players he tied with are the two starting safeties for the Owls this season in senior strong safety Dominque Harris and junior free safety Jaquawn Jarrett. Overall this unit is going to be tough for any team to score on, and could very well be the reason this team returns to its winning form and goes to a bowl game for the fist time since 1997. Bet the MAC this season at Sportsbook.com.

My 2009 Prediction: 1st in MAC East Division. I am going out on a bit of a limb here, but I really feel like the Owls are going to surprise a lot of teams this season, and could even end up winning the overall conference title this season. In order for this prediction to come true the Owls will likely have to win both road games against Ohio and Akron, but I like that they play these games late in the year after the offense has had a chance to get a rhythm going.

The Bulls luck ended there as they fell to Connecticut in the International Bowl, the first bowl game in school history. This year the Bulls return 14 starters back, but do have some key holes they will have to fill if they want to repeat as MAC Champions.

On offense the Bulls have just six starters coming back, and they have a big void to fill at quarterback, as the Bulls must find a replacement for the numbers Drew Willy put up last season. Willy completed 65% of his passes for 3,304 yards and 25 touchdowns to just 6 interceptions. Sophomore Zach Maynard and redshirt freshman Jerry Davis will continue to battle it out for the starting job, but as of now it looks as though Maynard has the upper hand to start opening day. The Bulls do return their top weapons at running back and wide receiver, as senior running back James Starks looks to improve on his 1,333 yards and 16 touchdowns from last season, while senior wide out Naaman Roosevelt looks to top his amazing season where he had 104 catches for 1,402 yards and 13 touchdowns. The Bulls also bring back junior running back Brandon Thermilus, who ran for 454 yards and 7 scores, along with senior wide out Brett Hamlin, who had 459 yards and 5 scores. The Bulls do have some holes to fill on the offensive line, as they lost their starting center, left tackle, and right guard from last season. Redshirt freshman David Skrip will get first crack at the open center position, while senior Matt Bacoulis takes over at right guard. At the always important left tackle position, junior Jordan Jerrold is expected to take over and provide protection for whoever wins the starting quarterback job. I think this unit is going to really hurt from the loss of Willy and the inexperience on the offensive line in the passing game, but Starks has a chance to put this offense on his shoulders and carry the Bulls to another strong season in 2009. Bet the Bulls this season at Sportsbook.com.

Another exciting season of NCAA football betting is just around the corner, and BetUS is giving you the chance to earn an additional $500 for just signing up. Just open a new account and deposit at least $500 and you will get an extra $500 for free.

The Bulls return 8 starters on the defensive side of things, and this unit will look to improve on the 403 yards of total offense they gave up per game last season. Up front the Bulls return just 1 starter on the defensive line in junior Anel Montanez, and this group will be a big concern for this team all season long. Things start to look a little better as the Bulls have two solid outside backers in juniors Raphael Akobundu and Justin Winters. At middle linebacker the Owls are turning to freshman Darius Willis, and the Bulls are hoping this kid is as good as advertised. The strongest group on this side of the ball is without a doubt the secondary, as all four starters return, and all four could end up being 1st/2nd team all-conference this season. At corner junior Domonic Cook and senior Kendric Hawkins form one of the best duos at this position in the MAC, while senior free safety Mike Newton and junior strong safety Davonte Shannon are two of the best at their positions as well. There are a lot of very good football players on this side of the football, but how well this team plays in 2009 will depend on what kind of production they get up front on a very inexperienced defensive line. Bet the MAC this season at Sportsbook.com.

My 2009 Prediction: 4th in MAC East Division. I know that this may seem low for a team coming off a conference title, but I really feel like this team is weak on both lines, and they have to deal with a new starting quarterback. This team could very well prove me wrong and win the East again in 2009, but I strongly believe they will fall back this season.
