I’ve been a week without home internet. What an adjustment! I’m in the library and I have 21 minutes left to write this post. I didn’t bring my own computer today. I am using one of the library’s computers. It is an iMac with a large screen. What a joy to use. I appreciate it being here. Good thing I am a fast typist.

I took the above picture yesterday morning on my way to the bus stop. It made my day seeing the small white flowers coming up through cold ground. While it is windy and cold today I know that Spring is coming. I am savoring the anticipation.

I remember being a little girl who was lucky enough to get a new pair of blue or red Keds sneakers with the white toes. And a new spring jacket. How light I felt without the heavy winter clothes.

I will enjoy the rest of windy March knowing what is ahead. Do you have happy memories of spring? Feel free to share.

I now have 12 minutes left on this computer. I am going to check the spelling and then hit publish. I will leave comments on but please don’t feel bad if I don’t respond right away since I have to get to the library or wifi area.

I hope all of you are well. Thank you for reading!

The photo shows a path I shoveled after the recent blizzard. I see it as a metaphor for my life. The immediate future seems difficult and narrow but the promise of a better time is ahead. I am on the path. I called today to cancel the Internet, cable and land-line. The cable service and land-line are not difficult to give up. But the home Internet will be a challenge. Even when I didn’t have television in Arizona, I still had Internet access in my apartment.

When I feel lonely I get online. When a question pops into my head I google it. When I didn’t have television I watched shows and movies online. Now there will be no distraction. All my online needs will have to be met at the library or a coffee shop.

While this is primarily a financial decision, I think there may be a silver lining. I will have more time to read, write, do puzzles, listen to music, walk, and get out and socialize. I can still blog and even upload videos. It will be less spontaneous, but it can be done.

The shut off date is February 24. I will let you know how it feels.

It will soon be February. In two months I will have been in New York for a year already. It is hard to believe!

Even though we are in the middle of winter I am looking toward spring. I may be have become influenced by my workplace where advertising is several months ahead. There are bright colored items in the store. While I endorse living in the present. Now that I am in a colder climate I can’t help but look ahead to flowers and milder temperatures. The spring will be a time of renewal for me in my personal life.

I am doing OK in the cold. I channel the hot Arizona summers to feel warmth. It is a memory and feeling I will always have with me. I enjoy the change of season here. I find it is all about dressing in layers. I wear a tee shirt, warm sweater, caridgan sweater, gloves, two scarves, and a coat, hat and boots. I’m sure I look funny. It’s OK. If it gets much colder I am considering adding leggings under my work slacks. The biggest challenge is waiting for the bus. I have to time it just right so I’m not out there for more than 15 minutes. That is about all I can take.

There are advantages to riding the bus. You don’t have to get into a cold car. When the bus arrives it is warm and you don’t have to drive in the bad weather. Most of the time the bus is on schedule. There are occasions when a bus breaks down. I don’t like to think about that, but it does happen. It happened in Phoenix when the sun was beating down and it will happen here when the cold winds blow. This is life. Cars can break down too. Climate extremes are rough whatever the mode of transportation.

Take care if you are experiencing winter storms. Spring is coming!
