2019 Annual Congregational Meeting: This meeting will take place this weekend on Sunday, January 27 in the Christ Center. Immediately following the 10:30am worship service, there will be a light luncheon from 11:45am to 12:30pm followed by the annual meeting at approximately 12:30pm. At the meeting, we will celebrate 2018 as we look forward into 2019, elect new council members, and vote on the 2019 budget. We hope you can be a part of the meeting that usually doesn’t last more than an hour or so.

Souper Bowl of Caring: Mark your calendars and come fight HUNGER with Bethel’s Youth Ministry! On Superbowl weekend, February 2^nd & 3^rd, at each worship service, the youth will collect your donations of canned foods and/or monetary donations to support the Marian House Soup Kitchen and their efforts to care for the homeless community in Colorado Springs. We appreciate your support and what you can donate to this worthy cause: We are aiming to raise $1,000!

Movies—Join this group in the Faith Forum beginning at 4:00 PM on Jan. 27 for viewing of the movie “Letters to God” (Letters to God is the story of what happens when one boy’s walk of Faith crosses paths with one man’s search for meaning—the resulting transformational journey touches the lives of everyone around them.) We will take a break at 5:15 to get food from the supper provided in the Christ Center and then start the movie where it had been stopped after dinner. Popcorn will be provided, please bring something to drink. 

Parenting Class—Do you worry about your child or teen’s exposure to things online? Do you want to be able to connect with your kids and teens in a very digital world? Join Pastor Dave as he leads a class on Kids, Teens and Technology (there is no cost to attend). The class meets in Room 103 in the Sunday School wing.

Financial Peace University: FPU is a class that offers life skills in money management and it began January 13 and will end March 17. Travel Opportunity: The Bethel travel group is planning a trip to Australia/New Zealand on March 9-27, 2020. It seems like a long way off, but since this is an international cruise open to the world, we can only promote it for a few months in 2018 and then the cruise line takes over and our group cabins are no longer available. Pastor John will have official brochures, and $1,000 deposits per person are being accepted with the registration right now. Since there has been a lot of interest in this trip, I would encourage you to sign up soon, if you are interested, so as to hold a spot on the trip. The registrations are based on two to a cabin with no single cabins available, but we are happy to try our best to match people with a cabin mate. Please direct all questions to Pastor John and let him know of your interest in the trip. A signup sheet is located in the narthex sign up area. We have 3 cabins left.

Winter Survival Gear Donation: The Bethel Senior Group is once again sponsoring a campaign to help those without adequate shelter during the cold winter months by collecting donations of winter survival gear (tarps, blankets, sleeping bags, winter coats, stocking hats, wool socks, mittens, gloves, etc.). Please help us to meet the needs of the most vulnerable members of our community this winter. Donation/collection boxes will be in the narthex through February 3. Hope, Hearts, and Home Benefit Luncheon: Family Promise of Colorado Springs invites you to The Antlers on Sunday, February 24^th from 12:30 – 2:30 PM for their 22^nd annual Hope, Hearts, and Home Benefit Luncheon. Prayer Shawl Ministry: The Prayer Shawl Ministry at Bethel is blessed with yarn donations and it is greatly appreciated! “Ultimate Garage Sale”—POSTPONED to March 9^th! Bethel’s Youth will be hosting a garage sale on Saturday, March 9 to help raise funds for their 2019 Mission Trips this summer. BLOC CAFÉ—A High School Ministry: Attend this group each Sunday morning where high school youths in grades 9-12 get to learn and discuss relevant topics related to their faith in a relaxed and inviting atmosphere—the class is currently working on the TRUE U series. Travel Opportunity: The Bethel travel group is planning a trip to Australia/New Zealand on March 9-27, 2020. It seems like a long way off, but since this is an international cruise open to the world, we can only promote it for a few months in 2018 and then the cruise line takes over and our group cabins are no longer available. Pastor John will have official brochures, and $1,000 deposits per person are being accepted with the registration right now. Since there has been a lot of interest in this trip, I would encourage you to sign up soon, if you are interested, so as to hold a spot on the trip. The registrations are based on two to a cabin with no single cabins available, but we are happy to try our best to match people with a cabin mate. INREACH & OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES
Winter Survival Gear Donation: The Bethel Senior Group is once again sponsoring a campaign to help those without adequate shelter during the cold winter months by collecting donations of winter survival gear (tarps, blankets, sleeping bags, winter coats, stocking hats, wool socks, mittens, gloves, etc.). Please help us to meet the needs of the most vulnerable members of our community this winter. Donation/collection boxes will be in the narthex from January 13—February 3. Kindness Kits: The Outreach Team would like to thank everyone for their participation in the Kindness Kits over the last year. “Ultimate Garage Sale”—POSTPONED to March 9^th! Bethel’s Youth will be hosting a garage sale on Saturday, March 9 to help raise funds for their 2019 Mission Trips this summer. Tax Time: During the coming tax season, Paul Nervig will be volunteering as a return preparer for the IRS VITA program. This is a free service and they are seeking volunteers who will be willing to train to prepare taxes for lower income people ($54,000 or less). It is a limited time commitment beginning in February and running through April 15. The group is looking for people who can join them at the Helen Hunt Non-Profit Center and/or the Sand Creek Library sponsored by REACH Pikes Peak (http://www.reachpikespeak.org/). NEW GROUP FORMING: Got young ones aged zero to six? Are you interested in meeting with other families with children just learning to walk, talk, and play? Then, this is the small group for you! Meeting once a month, this small group strives to create fun outings for families with young children—from short trips to local attractions, or playdates at a home or park. Come join in the fun (and learning together what it means to survive the “toddler years”) as we get the “babies of Bethel” together and playing in this family-centered small group. Progressive Dinner – Hosts needed! On Sunday, January 13^th, the youth ministry team is planning a Progressive Dinner where a few members of Bethel will be asked to open their homes and provide food to host one part of the dinner. We are still looking for 2 more hosts. The Schafer’s, Prater’s, and Julie Loera have offered to host one part of the dinner. The plan is to spend approximately 30 minutes at each host location getting to know one another, sharing stories of faith, and enjoying the meal. 2019 Annual Congregation Meeting: This meeting will take place on Sunday, January 27 in the Christ Center. Immediately following the 10:30am worship service on Jan. 27, there will be a light luncheon from 11:45am to 12:30pm followed by the annual meeting at approximately 12:30pm. At the meeting, we will celebrate 2018 as we look forward into 2019, elect new council members, and vote on the 2019 budget.  We hope you can be a part of the meeting the usually doesn’t last more than an hour or so.

THE COMFORT MAKERS—The Comfort Makers meet the 1^st, 3^rd, and 5^th Tuesday each month at 9:00 AM in the Christ Center (Not meeting January 1, 2019). Cancelled Stamps: Thank You very much for those who continue to save cancelled stamps for The Marion Downs Center in Denver. This center educates & assists those with hearing problems. You might have noticed that the stamp collection box is not available so would you be so kind as to put them in PK Petitmermet’s mail box. This is an especially good time for collecting during the holiday season because of the increase in postal mail we receive. The the Christmas stamps are the most valuable to collect. Just remember to cut them so the scalloped edge of the stamps are not damaged. Thanks again for taking time and effort to cut the stamps for those with hearing difficulties. All-Church Christmas Caroling: Come join us for an afternoon of sharing in the joy of Christ’s birth with the residents of Summit Glenn and other nursing homes in the area. This wonderful event, sponsored by Bethel’s Youth Ministry, will take place on Sunday, December 23 beginning at 11:45 AM in the Christ Center. We will have food & fellowship in the Christ Center before heading out to the caroling sites. Hope to see you there!

Mercy’s Gate Thursday Ministry: Are you looking for an opportunity to serve our community as a family this holiday season? Bethel’s Mercy’s Gate Thursday Ministry (MGTM) makes and serves breakfast & lunch to low income families at Mercy’s Gate on the last Thursday of each month and the next serving date is December 27! People are always needed to prepare the meals at Bethel and others may serve at Mercy’s Gate that day. You can serve as little as 1-2 hours or sign up for more. GriefShare Class: Grief can be a confusing time when you feel isolated and have many questions about things you’ve never faced before​. Healing from grief is not an easy thing to do. It is a long & sometimes painful process. If you’ve lost a spouse, child, family member, or friend, GriefShare is a place where you will find caring people who understand the issues you face. Don’t go through the grieving process alone. Join us Wednesday mornings starting January 9 at 9:30 AM in the New Creation Rm. for the GriefShare class. NEW GROUP FORMING: Got young ones aged zero to six? Are you interested in meeting with other families with children just learning to walk, talk, and play? Then, this is the small group for you! Meeting once a month, this small group strives to create fun outings for families with young children—from short trips to local attractions, or playdates at a home or park. Come join in the fun (and learning together what it means to survive the “toddler years”) as we get the “babies of Bethel” together and playing in this family-centered small group. Progressive Dinner – Hosts needed! On Sunday, January 13^th, the youth ministry team is planning a Progressive Dinner where a few members of Bethel will be asked to open their homes and provide food to host one part of the dinner. We are still looking for 2 more hosts. The Schafer’s, Prater’s, and Julie Loera have offered to host one part of the dinner. The plan is to spend approximately 30 minutes at each host location getting to know one another, sharing stories of faith, and enjoying the meal. Movies—Join this group in the Faith Forum beginning at 4:00 PM on Jan. 13 for viewing of the movie Let There Be Light. We will take a break at 5:15 to get food from the supper provided in the Christ Center and then start the movie where it had been stopped after dinner. Popcorn will be provided, please bring something to drink.

Parenting Class—Do you worry about your child or teen’s exposure to things online?  Do you want to be able to connect with your kids and teens in a very digital world?  Join Pastor Dave as he leads this new class on Kids, Teens and Technology.  The class meets in Room 103 in the Sunday School wing.

Financial Peace University: FPU is a class that offers life skills in money management and Bethel is offering this class again beginning January 13 and ending March 17. THE COMFORT MAKERS—The Comfort Makers meet the 1^st, 3^rd, and 5^th Tuesday each month at 9:00 AM in the Christ Center (Not meeting January 1, 2019). Connections Group—This group is targeted to singles and couples in their 50’s and 60’s though is not exclusive. It is a fellowship and discussion group of mutual support, laughter, food and fun. Travel Opportunity: The Bethel travel group is planning a trip to Australia/New Zealand on March 9-27, 2020. It seems like a long way off, but since this is an international cruise open to the world, we can only promote it for a few months in 2018 and then the cruise line takes over and our group cabins are no longer available. Pastor John will have official brochures, and $1,000 deposits per person are being accepted with the registration right now. Since there has been a lot of interest in this trip, I would encourage you to sign up soon, if you are interested, so as to hold a spot on the trip. The registrations are based on two to a cabin with no single cabins available, but we are happy to try our best to match people with a cabin mate. Please direct all questions to Pastor John and let him know of your interest in the trip. A signup sheet is located in the narthex sign up area. We have 3 cabins left.

INREACH & OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Angel Trees in the narthex area this Christmas season! Twenty-five families from Mercy’s Gate, 25 foster children at Lutheran Family Services, and an IHN/Family Promise family benefited from your love & generosity this year. We were able to share lunch with the Mercy’s Gate families and they were so grateful for everything. While we didn’t get to personally experience the others receiving their gifts, we know they will be thrilled with the presents you have provided and the LOVE & HOPE you have shared with them!

Cancelled Stamps: Thank You very much for those who continue to save cancelled stamps for The Marion Downs Center in Denver. This center educates & assists those with hearing problems. You might have noticed that the stamp collection box is not available so would you be so kind as to put them in PK Petitmermet’s mail box. This is an especially good time for collecting during the holiday season because of the increase in postal mail we receive. The the Christmas stamps are the most valuable to collect. Just remember to cut them so the scalloped edge of the stamps are not damaged. Thanks again for taking time and effort to cut the stamps for those with hearing difficulties. Ultimate Garage Sale—Items Needed! On January 26, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the youth are planning to host a beginning-of-the-year garage sale to help fund the 2019 Mission Trip to Idaho Servant Adventures. “We want to help you get rid of your things and we couldn’t wait till Spring!” If you have items that you would like to donate for this huge sale, please connect with Bethany W., our youth representative for this project. We are looking for any and all items and we can arrange item pick up as needed.
