Happy Rosh Chodesh Iyyar

We enjoyed a spiritually rich Passover at Beth Immanuel, blessed in the light and love our righteous Messiah, and now we are counting the omer and looking ahead toward the next Appointed Time on God's calendar: The Festival of Shavuot. Before we get to that, however, we have several important events that occur during the days of the counting of the Omer. Today, by the way is 15 days of the Omer (2 weeks and 1 day). Use this handy Omer Counting Chart to stay on schedule. Includes instructions for counting.

DAG BA’OMER

This Tuesday (May 7) join us for our annual celebration of the story in John 21: the Master's apperance to his disciples on the shore of Lake Gallilee. Dag Ba'Omer means "Fish in the Omer." We will have a 6:00 AM shacharit service and a 7:00 AM fish breakfast by the Saint Croix River. Bring $$ to donate toward Beth Immanuel Youth and Young Adult programming and to buy this year's Dag Ba'Omer mugs. Here's an article where you can learn more about Dag Ba'Omer.

LAG BA’OMER

Lag Ba'Omer (33rd day of the Omer) falls on Thursday May 23. Wednesday night (May 22) will be bonfire night. We will be lighting up the night with the light of revelation. Here's a teaching on the subject of Lag Ba'Omer to get you up to speed.

ASCENSION DAY

On the forieth day of the Omer, Yeshua ascended from the Mount of Olives. At Beth Immanuel, we don't let Ascenion Day escape notice. We'll be celebrating the ascension with songs, stories, teachings, and fellowship at a men's farbgrengen-style gathering at 7:00 PM, Wednesday, May 29. The next morning, we have an Ascension Day Shacharit Service at 6:00 AM on Thursday, May 30. Come to the morning service for the spiritual elevation and stay for the pancake / waffle breakfast.

IMMERSIONS IN MESSIAH

We have several candidates for immersion, and we will be conducting their immersions during the week before Shavuot. The elders will offer the investiture of new immersees at a 6:00 PM Minchah Service on Friday, June 7. That same night, we will also host a special Seudat Mitzvah Erev Shabbat Meal to celebrate the immersions and kick off our annual Shavuot conference. After a decade of attending the First Fruits of Zion National Conference at Shavuot, it's become an annual tradition for many people to make pilgrimage to Hudson for Shavuot. Let's keep it going. Beth Immanuel facility manager and all-around great guy Paul Sundstrom is making himself scarce lately as he works in his shop on the new Beth Immanuel sign which is to be installed over the south entrance. The City of Hudson has already approved the sign design, and that's a good sign! We hope that the new sign will help alleviate confusion between Beth Immanuel and the Bethel Lutheran Church which is one block away.

Passover at Beth Immanuel April 19-27

Passover this year begins Friday night, April 19. Here's a new teaching about Yeshua's Triumphal Entry to help prepare for the festival: The Entrance of the King.

As you celebrate your seder meals in remembrance of the Master, his last supper, his suffering, his death, and his resurrection, let us help you navigate through the holiday. Meal of Messiah

There will be no community "Meal of Messiah" this year on the eighth day of Passover. Plan on hosting one in your home and inviting guests.

Dag Ba’Omer

On the seventeenth day of the Omer (Tuesday, May 7this year) we acknowledge the story of John 21 and the appearance of our Master beside the Sea of Galilee with an outdoor fish breakfast called Dag Ba’Omer. Read the Book of Acts

Join the community in a read-thru of the book of Acts. Our daily reading schedule takes us into the book of Acts only when there are two months of Adar in a year. Today is Adar II day one, and so we begin with Acts chapter one. Use the handy-dandy Beth Immanuel Daily Reading Ap on your phone or computer to get the text of the daily readings in English and Hebrew, plus deep thoughts from the Messianic Jewish luminaries.

Next Shabbat is Shabbat Zachor (March 16) on which we prepare for Purim by fulfilling the mitzvah of remembering Amalek.

Purim Party

The Fast of Esther and the first Megillah Reading will take place Wednesday, March 20. Get the details here and get ready for another fabulous Purim at Beth Immanuel. Donations for our annual Purim food drive and be brought to Beth Immanuel and left in the Fellowship Hall, anytime from now through the week of Purim. Donations will be delivered to the Hudson Area Food shelf.

Escape from Nazi Demons

Join us Wednesday February 13 at 7:30 PM for the Hudson premiere of a new documentary from First Fruits of Zion, Escape from Nazi Demons, starring some local talent! You can watch the trailer here.

Werner Oder, the son of an Austrian Nazi war criminal, was raised on anti-Semitism and hatred for Jews. He was lost in spiritual darkness and plagued by demons from his childhood. We’ll equip you to think through issues critically and to respond in a peaceful way which will make a difference for our Messiah!

Class Name: The Life of King David

Description: The rise and reign of King David is the high point of the story of Tanakh. David rose from being a young, rejected shepherd boy to the most memorable and beloved King of Israel. He fought battles, built a kingdom in the heartland of ancient Israel, yearned for Hashem, and wrote poetry that resonates in our hearts until this day. Hashem loved David so much that he called him a man after his own heart. Who was this servant of Hashem? Together we will track the life of King David and deepen our understanding of the story of Tanakh.

Join us as we learn the art of chavruta (partner study) while we go through a beautiful edition of Pirkei Avot (Ethics of Our Fathers). Hear the echoes of Yeshua’s teachings as we learn from the sages before him, his contemporaries and those who carried the light of Torah after the destruction of the Temple. Current students have been learning about the Messianic Era in the fall semester, but new students can join us for the spring semester when we transition to learning about Yeshua's teachings for us.

Want to do something that no one else is doing?

To start with, the world does not have many Messianic Jews. Out of those few numbers, only a minority of Messianic Jews practice what could be considered a traditional form of Judaism. It’s not an exaggeration to say that observant Messianic Jews are an endangered species! But you can do something to protect and propagate that endangered species by providing a healthy environment where Messianic Judaism is lived out on the ground and Jewish identity is celebrated.

Through Beth Immanuel, you contribute to something that does not exist anywhere else and has not existed since the days of the Apostles: a Messianic Jewish community practicing traditional Judaism. At the same time, you support one of the few Messianic synagogues where Gentile disciples participate as Gentiles—without blurring Jewish and Gentile identities. We believe that’s the way Messianic community functioned in the days of the Apostles, and we believe that’s a picture of the way it will function in the coming Kingdom of our Master Yeshua.

First Fruits of Zion’s national conference will not take place over Shavuot this year, but we are still hosting a smaller-scale conference over the Shavuot weekend, June 7-10. Join us in Hudson for a holiday experienced focused on the holiday, the giving of the Torah, and outpouring of the Spirit, and the life and stories of King David. We’ll have teaching, music, Sabbath and holiday meals, and activities for children, youth, and young adults. Attendance will be free, but you will still need to pre-register and purchase a meal ticket for the event. Caleb Waller of HaYovel and Wine Tasting Event

This Shabbat Beth Immanuel hosts Caleb Waller from HaYovel Ministries as a special guest speaker at the Shabbat morning service.

Saturday evening after Havdallah, Caleb invites you to attend an Israeli wine-tasting event and presentation at Beth Immanuel.

Caleb Waller is an engaging speaker with a passion to tell the world the overlooked truth about the people and nation of Israel and to encourage others to actively show their support. Over the past 12 years, he has helped to recruit thousands of people to come to Israel and stand with the farmers in Judea and Samaria, which the world commonly labels “the West Bank.”

Caleb and his twin brother Joshua also co-host a TV series entitled The Joshua and Caleb Report. In this series, they travel throughout Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria to hear the stories of those who live there, in order to connect viewers from around the world to the current reality of Israel. Caleb has a particular interest in the wines of Israel and shares of their prophetic significance in The Story of Israel Through Her Wines, a gripping presentation of a journey through the covenants, blessings, sorrows and triumphs of the nation of Israel, from the time of Abraham up to the present day.

Caleb has been a major player in the growth of HaYovel and functions as a key spokesperson for the organization. He is known among his family and peers as an unstoppable visionary.

This year, as we prepare for the holidays, let’s fix our eyes upon the Messiah, the true light and the source of eternal salvation for all who hear him. May his light illumine your life with the pure light, and may his oil of gladness anoint you.

Chanukah

Don’t get caught unprepared for the season of oily potatoes and sugary doughnuts. The festival of Chanukah comes early this year, just a few days after Thanksgiving. The first night of Chanukah is Sunday, December 2 and the festival concludes on December 10. To get in the Thanksgivikah Spirit, we’ve put Troy Mitchell’s 2013 classic mashup of Ma’oz Tzur and Simple Gifts on the website for you to download and enjoy. You're welcome!

Chanukah Party

You are invited to a party. We will be celebrating Chanukah and our 16-year-anniversary as a congregation with a big party Saturday night December 8 after Shabbat concludes. Plan on latkes, cookies, doughnuts, games, a Chanukah concert, and lots of Chanukah fun.

Wednesday Night Classes Resume

Wednesday Night Bible Study has resumed with an adult class and a class for youth and young adults. Pastor Janicki is teaching the youth and young adults from the Sermon on the Mount. Pastor Lancaster is teaching through the “Seven Signs of the Messiah” from the Gospel John. You can listen to the Seven Signs class online.

Passover at Beth Immanuel April 19-27

Make Passover special this year. The holy festival begins on Friday, April 19. Make plans to join us in Hudson this year for a memorable Passover. Be our guest at the Seder Table for the first day of Passover April 19-20, or come for the Meal of Messiah at the conclusion of the festival April 26-27.

Shavuot Conference June 7-10, 2018

Save the dates for Shavuot. We are hosting a conference over the Shavuot weekend, June 7-10. Join us in Hudson for a holiday experience focused on the holy festival, on the giving of the Torah, and on the outpouring of the Spirit. We’ll have teaching, music, Sabbath and holiday meals, and activities for children, youth, and young adults. (NOTE: First Fruits of Zion National Conference will not be in Hudson or over the Shavuot holiday this year.) Specific registration details tba.

Air Conditioning and Bookshelves

Four air conditioning units now grace the walls of the Beth Immanuel sanctuary thanks to the generous support of our donors. We look forward to cooler summers in the sanctuary. In addition, a beautiful new set of bookshelves has been installed in the back of the sanctuary to hold our holy books.

Torah Club at Beth Immanuel

Beth Immanuel members have launched four Torah Clubs in the vicinity and Twin Cities area. Torah Club is a weekly Bible Study on the Torah portions.
