Sony Ericsson Satio Full Review - Part II

Powering shows the beautiful screen of the Sony Ericsson Satio.

The home screen consists of five thematic tabs:
- List of favorite contacts
- List of web browser bookmarks,
- Screen Saver Classic (with wallpaper, date, time, network name, ...) and four softkeys shortcut to the telephone keypad to menu "Media" (photo, music, video) to email and to a search through Google.
- Viewing photos by date stored in memory in the form of slides,
- Shortcuts to certain functions (Profiles, WiFi, Bluetooth, Radio ...). The shortcut list is customizable.
The organization's main menu and submenus look like a mix between the menus of the Symbian OS, as it is integrated into the Nokia, and soft owner of Sony Ericsson.

Navigating through menus and sub - menus is fairly fluid, and response time are really quick.

1 - Internet and Email Management

The Sony Ericsson Satio enables Web browsing and managing multiple accounts of email.

Internet:
Setting the data account under the Symbian OS is relatively simple.
The display of web pages, available in portrait or landscape mode is correct.
For cons, the sites above a certain size does not load. It's a shame.
Navigation within the web pages is done using the finger, which is quite handy sometimes, and sometimes less. A directional pad like the Nokia N97 would have been welcome.

The presence of a WiFi chip is very significant to save their data plan, and surf the web faster. Connecting to a WiFi hot spot works perfectly, and deadlines for establishing a connection are correct.

Subscribers to Orange World TV package can rejoice: the Sony Ericsson Satio bed perfectly channels the TV operator. The channels appear on all the beautiful mobile screen, making viewing very comfortable and very pleasant.

Mail:
The menu allows mail sending and receiving SMS, MMS and Email.
The parameterization accounts Email is quite simple to make (especially for those accustomed to the Symbian platform).
Sending and receiving Email works well.

The receiving station is correct.

3 - Taking pictures and videos

Equipped with a flash, autofocus and an APN of 12.1 Mpixels, the Sony Ericsson Satio is very well equipped to make good photos and good videos.

Photos:
Pictures taken with the Sony Ericsson Satio are quite good, and colors are restored.
For cons, I found a few pictures taken, some details may lack finesse.

Several types of shots are available:
- Normal,
- Panorama (to automatically large panoramic photos. Three images are captured sequentially and connected them to form a larger photo Seamless)
- BestPic (for capturing moving objects quickly. This method is nine shots in quick succession early in order to choose the best)
- Detecting smiles (when the topic of focus smiles, the camera automatically takes a photo)

Images can be captured géotagguées, that is to say that the GPS coordinates of the approximate location at which a photo was captured is stored in the file created for each capture.

Video:

The quality of video captured by the Sony Ericsson Satio is correct throughout, but nothing more.

4 - The GPS function

With a GPS chip technology backed by A-GPS, maps Wisepilot (the same as that incorporated in the LG Chocolate BL40) and Google Maps, Sony Ericsson Satio is ready for navigation.

Submitted with menus in English, Wisepilot small application is very friendly and simple to use ... subject to having some small knowledge of the language of Shakespeare.

The voice navigation is in English by default, but other languages can be downloaded directly from Satio.

This mapping is quite pleasant to use, but I believe it is less than Nokia Maps, Tomtom or Garmin.

5 - File management

The Sony Ericsson Satio includes many readers of office files: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Acrobat.
Reading these files is very correct throughout.
The bad surprise is that the reader can read the Acrobat file. Pdf is free for 15 days and then pay.

6 - Synchronizing with a PC

The Sony Ericsson Satio is shipped with no CD, which portends the worst when how to synchronize your PC (with Outlook) on his mobile.

Faced with numerous announcements made by LG, Samsung and Nokia earlier this year on new models marketed in 2009, Sony Ericsson had to react quickly in order not to fall even further behind by competition in recent years is become increasingly aggressive in the market for mobile phones and smartphones.

Apple is making available a new update for the iPhone OS iPhone 3G owners and 3GS.

This latest version corrects some minor bugs including the automatic alarm smartphone while it is paused.

Another problem was corrected some mistakes and crash when streaming videos could be encountered in the current version.

Users of iPhone OS 3.1 will automatically update and free to this version when they launch iTunes from their PCs.

The U.S. operator T-Mobile has announced the launch of its 3rd smartphone running Android. The T-Mobile Pulse is built by Taiwanese manufacturer Huawei has HSDPA support, WiFi and GPS.

We also retain an NPA of 3.2-megapixel with autofocus, a microSD slot, microUSB taking a 2.5mm output jack, touch screen 3.5 "resolution HVGA processor and Qualcomm MSM7200A.

The HTC Touch Pro 2 has been officially presented at the Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona in February. It is a worthy replacement for the HTC Touch Pro, a gadget specially designed for mobile professionals.

The tour of the aircraft

Aesthetically speaking, the HTC Touch Pro2 is a true success. It is beautiful, and elegant finish is exemplary. From this side, you can not blame him. I love the rounded shapes of the device, much more organic than the Touch Pro first name that had a more square design.

The camera has a plastic bin in silver. I would have preferred for my hand a black box to stay in the discretion, but it is a matter of taste. When you remove the back cover, one discovers a 1500mAh battery, housing for the SIM card, a hole for soft reset, and the microSD slot. Too bad it is placed below the lid, but honestly, how many times you remove the memory card? I almost never.

The keyboard

The keyboard is an important item on the purchase of this product, and be clear and precise. The keyboard is a pure happiness. Without doubt the best keyboard I used on a mobile device. It must be said that the size helps but even if! The buttons are large and comfortable. It feels very good pressure and I like the number keys on the front line. Like on a real keyboard.

Telephony

In terms of quality, the sound when a communication is clear. No stall activation. This is an improvement over the HTC Touch Pro I had.

Performances

The HTC Touch Pro2 board Qualcomm MSM7200A processor clocked at 528MHz, 512MB of ROM (of which 287MB accessible to the user) and 288MB RAM (with 188MB accessible). It is fairly well equipped to meet the power needs. During the few days where I played with, I have not really experienced significant slow applications, video playback was very fluid.

There are always moments (that is Windows Mobile, do not forget), or applications put a little time to appear but it was when I had a multitude of them open.

The small benchmark done with the Spb Benchmark application shows that it arrives on the podium, just behind the amazing Touch Diamond2.

Autonomy

I have not really made for scientific measurements, these results are based on my use thus qutodienne for 5 days. The machine loads a battery of 1500mAh, which is more than the 1350mAh HTC TyTN II and Touch Pro's 1340mAh.

Yet, autonomy remains essentially the same. It must be said that the Touch Pro2 still has a large screen and an important resolution. With normal use (calls, internet, push email at all times, brightness important ...) I could take the day before having to recharge.

You can improve this figure with moderate use and playing on the screen brightness. I think the maximum we can achieve is 2 to 3 days max autonomy.

So no particular surprise, it's still in the middle of the smartphone market.

Connectivities

No worries at the level of connectivity. The HTC Touch is more than Pro2 complete Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR + A2DP, GPRS, EDGE, 3G (900/2100 Mhz) with HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA, and finally a GPS receiver GPS chip Qualcomm MSM7201A (A-GPS).

Anything beautiful coexists nicely through the communication manager, which is the transition very elegant. It is also possible to configure the connections via a menu advanced.

TouchFLO 3D

Touch Flo 3D is now on new models of the Taiwanese manufacturer for some time now. I will not go through this interface, we had done in depth during our test HTC Touch HD for example.

I will stress against the functions or applications that have caught my attention.

First, the interface of the home page is simple but really effective. Now the landscape mode is supported. Simply lift the keyboard to trigger it.

I love the new application to manage alarms and clock. You can add multiple clocks which is perfect for travelers like me. For alarms is very visual and elegant.

The tab with shortcuts to favorite contacts is probably the one I use most with email / SMS. Navigation is fast thanks to the 528Mhz Qualcomm processor.

The tab of the agenda has not been redesigned but is still as clear and concise. I like the principle, or click on to see the whole list of tasks appear. I prefer this to the tiny pane of the agenda for the iPhone for example.

Technology Push Internet HTC is represented in this tab. You can send updates to your favorite sites at regular intervals. I have not really felt the need this functionality. The default browser is Opera. It is fast but it is far from ergonomic Safari on iPhone.

The new page for viewing stock shares has been reworked. It is more clear and elegant. I never understood why this was one of the tabs by default. How many people a portfolio of foreign shares on the total mass of users?

The weather tab is not changed but it remains one of my favorites. I love the opening animation and beauty icons. As you can see, it's hot at home in Hong Kong.

The new calculator is very successful. If you rotate the device or you leave the keyboard, it automatically becomes a scientific calculator.

The page is simple notifications. Here is an SMS that I received. By clicking, you can see the entire message.

The tab that I use more but I like the least. Here is an example or the "eye candy" takes precedence over simplicity. The animation is nice, but the navigation between emails is laborious. In addition, the field of view of the text is so small.

Application Youtube. Jolie but crashed several times for me. The best use is in landscape mode of course.

In the right corner of the bar notifications, you have a shortcut icon to the vital data of the machine. Memory, CPU, autonomy. Also very practical to close an application quickly.

In the depths of phone configurations, I found these parameters. Maybe I'm wrong but I've never seen these options before in Windows Mobile 6.1. Sending a SMS automatically when a call is rejected, for example very interesting.

Video and Photos

The photos and videos ongelt allows, as its name suggests to manage your photos or videos. It's very nice to navigate from one photo to another by dragging a finger. Simply click on one of two icons to the right to launch either the camera or the camera.

The HTC Touch has a Pro2 AFN 3.2M pixels but do not expect miracles. The picture quality is good, similar to what you find on the iPhone 3GS for example, but it needs good conditions.
