Jennifer Lopez Tries to Stop Ex's Biopic

Jennifer Lopez didn't want details of her marriage to Ojani Noa publicized in a book, and she doesn't want it out there in a movie either. They were married in February 1997 and it ended a year later.

Citing the injunction all parties agreed upon two years ago, lawyers for the singer-actress have sent a cease-and-desist letter to her first ex-husband, Ojani Noa, demanding that he stop trying to profit from his brief marriage to the twice-since remarried star.

According to the letter, Noa's been shopping a film project called "How I Married Jennifer Lopez: The JLo and Ojani Noa Story" and has advertised for players on an open-casting website.

"It would strain credulity to the breaking point for those involved in the writing, development and the pre-production of the Proposed Film to claim that they were not aware" of the injunction in place, Lopez attorney John Lavely wrote.

The injunction prevented Noa from publishing a supposed tell-all book a few years back that claimed Lopez, among other things, was hooking up with Marc Anthony while the singer was still married. He was also ordered to pay $545,000 in damages for breaking a confidentiality clause he signed in 2005.

But despite its straightforward title, the film's executive producer states that the film would start with Noa's arrival from Cuba on U.S. shores and take him through his courtship of and yearlong marriage to Lopez, and end with her ill-fated 2002 engagement to Ben Affleck. The film would detail Lopez's alleged infidelities while married to Noa. He also claims Lopez cheated on various boyfriends with him.

"It's a parody, so usually law doesn't apply to the story unless it's something serious," she said. "It's showing that he can get over it. It's comic. This is not about Jennifer Lopez's life, this is about Ojani's life."

After taking a year off to care for Emme and Max, the 18-month-old twins that she had by her husband Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez is back at work recording an album and has a film called "The Back-Up Plan" already completed.

She says she hates being away from the children, but has found an interesting way of keeping in touch. "I call up on the web camera so I can see them while I'm away and just look at them," says the 40-year-old actress. "Then my daughter starts crying when she sees me on screen. She holds out her arms to me and gets very upset. It breaks my heart if I'm away from them even for a short time." She adds twins can be "hard work", but she has a nanny to help out.

Also on news about Jennifer...her husband Marc Anthony has become a partial owner of the Miami Dolphins, "I'm a huge sports fan," says Anthony, 40. "These opportunities don't come around too often. It's quite an honor and a privilege to be able to sit here today saying that I'm a part-owner of an NFL team." Anthony struck a deal with Stephen Ross, the New York-based real estate entrepreneur who bought a 95-percent stake in the Dolphins franchise in January. The singer did not disclose the financial terms. "It would have probably been cheaper just to buy season tickets," he said, joking.

Anthony says he and wife Jennifer Lopez are house hunting now. "Jennifer loves Miami," he says. "So she's really, really happy about this because we're going to be spending a lot of time down there."

The actress has been busy filming The Back-Up Plan in New York and took some time off to party with the crew and husband Marc Anthony. She had a huge chocolate cake to share with everyone. It featured a big photo of herself and the message: "Jennifer...thanks for being our Plan A! You're the best. And...happy birthday!" She also got kisses from her husband and toasted with champagne.

Aside from her movie duties, Lopez has also been spending time kick-starting her new charitable endeavor, the Maribel Foundation.

Inspired after she and husband Marc Anthony found a lump on the head of Emme, Lopez tells, “We both got very nervous, and I just remember my heart sinking to my feet.”

The Maribel Foundation helps provide pediatric medical services for those who cannot afford to pay themselves.

A Phoenix man can no longer use Web addresses with singer Jennifer Lopez name to make money, the World Intellectual Property Organization says.

An arbitrator with the U.N. organization rejected Phoenix resident Jeremiah Tieman's stance that his jenniferlopez.net and jenniferlopez.org Web sites offered information and updates about the "Jenny from the Block" star. In finding Tieman was using the Internet sites to make money off advertising, William R. Towns ordered March 24 that the domain names be turned over to the Jennifer Lopez Foundation. The charitable foundation promotes better access to healthcare for women and children.

Lopez had sued Tieman over the sites, alleging they violated U.S. copyright laws. She officially registered her name a trademark in the United States in May 1999. Towns ruled that Tieman's online domains were not actual fan Web sites of the celebrity, but linked to a Web site that was based on generating revenues through paid advertisements. She joins other celebrities in ousting cybersquatters through the dispute procedure, including Pierce Brosnan, Tom Cruise, Celine Dion, Scarlett Johansson, Nicole Kidman, Madonna and Julia Roberts.

Lopez is the star of “West Side Story Revisited,” a glossy portfolio currently featured on Vanity Fair’s website. Shot by veteran VF photographer Mark Seliger, the pictorial recreates several scenes from the classic 1961 movie, which was adapted from 1957’s landmark Laurents-Bernstein-Sondheim musical, which itself was based loosely on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. All of the story’s iconic locales—the streets, the gym, the rooftop dance-off—are represented, and of course, a photo of J-Lo’s butt!

Lopez told Vanity Fair's Jim Windolf that she watched the West Side Story movie "37 times" as a kid, and was attracted to the part of Anita. "I never wanted to be that wimpy Maria, who sits around pining for her guy," she said. "I wanted to be Anita, who danced her way to the top."

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony have filed a federal lawsuit against the makers of high-end baby carriages over the unauthorized use of their images.

The couple filed the suit Wednesday, February 25 in U.S. District Court against Silver Cross. They state that the use of their images on the Silver Cross Web site to market the carriages has caused irreparable damage to both Lopez's and Anthony's public images. They also maintain there's harm to Lopez's production company as well as her product and apparel lines.
The couple believe they have suffered in excess of $5 million, which they are seeking in addition to both a preliminary and permanent injunction against Silver Cross.

American superstar band The Jonas Brothers have bought a new expensive family compound in Hollywood Hills which is right next door to Jennifer Lopez's estate, and includes the former home of movie Tarzan Johnny Weismuller, which has laid empty for over 20 years.

Alan Poul, the "Six Feet Under" veteran is in final negotiations to direct the CBS Films fertility comedy "Plan B". Jennifer Lopez is starring in the motion picture, which CBS will begin shooting in May.

In addition to serving as executive producer on "Six Feet Under," the UTA-repped Poul also has worked on the HBO marriage drama "Big Love" and NBC's "Swingtown." "Plan B" is his first feature where he's directing.

Escape Artists is producing and Kate Angelo wrote the script for "Plan B," in which a single woman meets the man of her dreams on the very day she conceives a child through artificial insemination.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony graced "la alfombra roja" — the red carpet — at Union Station to give a Hispanic flair to the inauguration pre-celebration on Sunday, January 18. They posed quickly for cameras with no visible signs of the marital distress that tabloids have been buzzing about recently. The two singers entertained the crowd at the end of the night.

Lopez introduced Anthony after making a pitch for the new president. "Yes we can," she said to the cheering crowd. "We all stood together and said 'Yes we will.'" Lopez, wearing an electric blue strapless gown, towered over her husband Anthony, who wore pinstripes. Her piled-high updo added a few more inches.

The couple said little from the carpet, but Anthony traded a hug with Miami-born Wilmer Valderrama, star of "That '70s Show," as he swiftly moved off the carpet.
Valderrama actively promoted registration and voting among young Latinos during the presidential election. "All of us performers, not until this election did we really understand what we could do," Valderrama said.

Though focus of the night was entertainment, the music quickly mixed with politics.
Tony Plana, who plays Betty's father in the television series "Ugly Betty," said he was ecstatic about President-elect Barack Obama's victory. He said an Obama administration could improve the lives of all minorities. But he also said Hispanics deserved a better spot on the inaugural festivities list. "It's a concern this event tonight is not an official event of the administration. It's a little sad for me Latinos had to organize their own event," Plana said. He said he hoped it did not mean Hispanics would be relegated to a back seat.

The event was organized by the National Council of La Raza and other Hispanic organizations. Members of Congress filtered in and mixed in the VIP room with some of the stars. Other entertainers at the event included Mexican singer Lila Downs, comedian George Lopez, actress Rosie Perez, telenovela actress Angelica Vale and others.

The rumors started recently because Marc Anthony was partying solo in Las Vegas, where he watched the Oscar De La Hoya boxing match with Eva Longoria Parker and Russell Crowe. The sight of Marc alone surprised most people, even at the time, because this is one married couple that does everything together. It also didn't help when Jennifer left her wedding ring at home when she attended the premiere of Brad Pitt's new movie "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button".

Jennifer Lopez's name has been mentioned in the debate about Caroline Kennedy's (JFK's daughter) ability to serve in the US Senate.

Queens Rep. Gary Ackerman said, "I don't know what Caroline Kennedy's qualifications are, except that she has name recognition, but so does J.Lo, I wouldn't make J.Lo the senator unless she proved she had great qualifications, but we haven't seen them yet." New York Gov. David Paterson has reportedly contacted Kennedy about taking over Hillary Clinton's Senate seat. Kennedy has been the director of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the Commission on Presidential Debates, among other things.

While we like Jennifer Lopez as a person, we don't think she's qualified to be a senator. Of course what do we know, as we also felt that action movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger wasn't qualified to be California Governor (a position he holds until 2011) when he was first elected in 2003.

Singer/actor Jennifer Lopez and her Nuyorican Productions company signed a first-look deal with Universal Media Studios to develop a slate of new TV programs, reports Variety.

The exclusive two-year pact was announced Monday by Universal Media Studios co-chairman Ben Silverman. Lopez also developed a sitcom at NBC based on her experiences growing up in the Bronx and guest starred several times on "Will & Grace." Silverman says, "Lopez is a multi-faceted superstar and we are thrilled to be in business with her. NBC has been fortunate to have worked with her previously with her music specials, and now this first-look deal gives us an opportunity to explore a variety of projects which will result in some outstanding television." Lopez says, "Universal Media Studio is the perfect home for Nuyorican, and I look forward to a successful, creative partnership."

Nuyorican Productions develops and produces feature films and television series geared to both mainstream and Latino audiences. Nuyorican was founded in 2003 by Jennifer Lopez and is run by Lopez and veteran producer Simon Fields.

Under Lopez and Fields, Nuyorican has been busy expanding its TV development, having sold a small screen version of the Lopez feature "Maid in Manhattan" to ABC, as well as the project "Amigas" to Disney Channel. The company has produced projects including the film Shall We Dance which grossed over $170 million worldwide and Bordertown, the political thriller which starred Lopez.

In other Jennifer Lopez news, Natalie Portman has replaced the actress in the upcoming film "Love and Other Impossible Pursuits," an adaptation of an Ayelet Waldman novel. Mendes, who recently was featured on a provocative advertising campaign for Calvin Klein, is quoted as saying recently: “I would like to think I will have a more serious career than [Jennifer]".

Jennifer Lopez and Leah Remini were very close recently at Elle's Women in Hollywood Tribute. The two arrived hand in hand and then went through the predinner cocktail reception still holding hands. As soon as they made it to their seats, they hung out like a couple of cool chicks in the cafeteria.

They talked, laughed, and they took photos of each other with their BlackBerrys. They also excused themselves from their table (which included Jenny McCarthy and the emcee for the night, E!'s Chelsea Handler) at least twice to go to the washroom. And yes, they walked to and from the bathroom holding hands.

Still stuck to each other at the end of the night, they spent their last few minutes there talking with Nicole Kidman. Some people think Lopez is just giving more evidence to claims that she's become a Scientologist like Remini, but who really knows what's going on there.
