Jennifer Lopez Gives Us Her American Idol Judging Insight

Well, it’s a new year and reality fans know what that means. American Idol is back. The judges of American Idol met the Television Critics Association on Sunday, including Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez who were new to the show last year.

Lopez continues to be busy as an actor, a producer and a mother. She spoke about her family, her beauty and fitness tips, and mentoring the hopeful young singers who are going to compete for her vote this season.

Q: What do you know about American Idol now that you didn’t know last year?

Jennifer Lopez: It’s so funny because I was such a fan of the show in the beginning so I pretty much knew what the show was as opposed to Steven who didn’t know what it was at all. He didn’t. He had never watched the show so he didn’t know what it was but I was someone who’d watched it forever. What do I know about it now? That live TV’s tiring. I didn’t know that. I’d never done live TV so that’s a big thing. That’s why I marvel at Ryan when I think about like he gets up at three in the morning and then he comes down. If he can do it I can do it.

Q: How has your judging changed since last year?

JL: It hasn’t changed. We’re still the same people. I’m still an emotional person. We’re a little more comfortable. We’re still having fun. We have amazing talent so that always makes it more exciting.

Q: Will you be harder on contestants this year?

JL: We try to give them advice as we would like it to be given to us. That’s how I always deliver what I’m trying to say. I want them to hear me. There’s nothing wrong with a little tough love but there’s nothing wrong with a little encouragement at the same time. We all have our own style and personalities, but at the end of the day, we’re trying to get them through to be the winner. That’s the thing about this journey. We can feel that when we first see them, and it’s just how the pressure of the competition and grueling pace of it and who comes through. You have to see how he fares through it. At the end of the day, you never know what’s going to happen and that’s what’s great about watching the whole season.

Q: What factors do you look for to get that sense of who’s going to make it or not?

JL: Some people are just not ready. They have the beginnings of a great voice. They can sing, it’s obvious but they’re lacking something. They’re lacking confidence or direction or they don’t know who they are. You can have someone who’s 15 and knows all that and then have someone who’s 25 and doesn’t. We just see it. When it’s fully developed, because we know it and have been around it, we can tell.

Q: Did you use your save too early last year?

JL: I think it was the right thing to do and these are things we’re going to talk about later.

Q: You know, In Living Color is coming back.

JL: What? Is that right? Oh my God, I didn’t even know. That’s awesome.

Q: Would you go back and be a Fly Girl on the new version?

JL: I might, you know. Who knows? I haven’t heard from him but if he called me and wanted me to do something it would be awesome. I owe Keenan a lot from the beginning of my career. He always believed in me. He always was constantly putting in my brain, “You’re going to be a star, do you know that?” He was a mentor to me so I wish him the best in that.

Q: What is the best advice you’ve ever gotten?

JL: The best advice ever? Oh my god, I’ve gotten so much advice over the years. To listen to yourself.

Q: How are you splitting your time between Idol and Que Viva? And what do you think of the telenovella version of Maid in Manhattan?

JL: I better call my lawyer. Really, what’s it called? Now I’m really going to call my lawyer. I want nothing but the best for them. Yeah, we’re working on a show called Que Viva. It’s worked out well. I’m producing that show so I have a little more leeway when I do things and when I don’t. Now that we’re more into the live part of Idol coming up, it’s only two days a week so we’re going to have time to work on both at the same time.

Q: Do your fans think they know you more personally now? Are you okay with that?

JL: Because of last season? I think they got to know us better for sure. They didn’t know our personalities the way they do now. I think it’s a great thing. They really got to know us for who we are. That’s the thing about reality television. You can’t really hide. I thought they knew me before but now they know you on a different level.

Q: What influence do the personal stories have on you, if a singer has a sick wife or something?

JL: We don’t really know their whole backstory. We have a little bit of what they tell us in the room. We see it on TV like you guys, like whoa, okay.

Q: Do the judges plan how you’re going to play off each other?

JL: I love it. I love that all three of us are so different. We’re all so different. We have different personalities, different senses of style. It’s nothing that calculated. We remind ourselves to have fun with it.

Q: How do you balance motherhood with all your work?

JL: They are so little and cute. It’s a juggling act just like any single mom. It’s just balancing everything out, making sure they’re okay. They come first though. I was just thinking, I sat down to look at my schedule for the next few months. I was like okay, this, this and this I’m doing with the kids at this time. That goes first and everybody works around that. that’s how we do it. So they feel loved, happy and what they are, the most important thing in my life.

Q: How do you keep your kids grounded in this business?

JL: It’s funny, they know a little bit of what I do but now they’re going to be four really soon, in February so they kind of get it. They know I dance, they know I sing. They know hair and makeup and I go and I do things. They don’t know everything but it’s funny, we get to go out where they’re not bombarded and stuff like that so I’ve learned how to move in those circles really well so they don’t get too overwhelmed with people and things like that. We do okay.

Q: Do they sing and dance?

JL: They sing very happy and loving and perfect.

At the 2011 American Music Awards, she sang and danced to a medley of her hits "Until It Beats No More," "Papi" and "On the Floor."

It was a triumphant awards show return for Lopez following her split from Marc Anthony this past summer after seven years of marriage.

The singer kept it sultry and sassy as she peeled off layer after layer of her costume throughout her performance. By "On the Floor," she was baring almost all in a sheer bodysuit with glittery detailing.

It was also a statement strikingly similar to the one that fellow pop icon Britney Spears made more than a decade ago at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. Like Lopez, she dazzled the audience with a strip-tease like dance routine that ended with a barely sparkly-nude ensemble.

Living up to her title as PEOPLE's reigning Most Beautiful Woman Lopez, 42, is more than twice as old as Spears was when she wore a similar ensemble (Spears was 17 at the time).

Perhaps it was a tough act to follow for Marc Anthony, who took the stage moments later with Pitbull and Lil Jon to sing "Rain Over Me." Lopez's performance was met with a standing ovation, and she picked up honors later for favorite artist in the Latin music category.

"It's been a really amazing year in so many ways," she said as she accepted the award. "It's been up and down and just exciting and overwhelming."

Jennifer Lopez was swept away with emotion while performing over the weekend, and the superstar told reporters what brought her to tears on Saturday, October 22 on the performance of her new song, “One Love.”

“After I sang the song, I’m standing there, and I reali

zed that I did bare a little bit of my thoughts in this song. I also acted it out, kind of, for the audience. The way they received it was very touching,” Jennifer explained.

“I think that they felt what I felt, which is, you know, I’m just a girl, just like everybody else, trying to find my way,” the 42-year-old star, who split with Marc Anthony in July, continued. “I felt like they got that, and they understood it, and we were all like one at that moment.”

Ladies brace yourselves for words many of you hoped you'd never hear again: The midriff is back.

The signs were there. Spring/Summer 2011 catwalk campaigns for several of the big labels all featured takes on the look. Max Mara, Armani and Zac Posen all sent models down the runways with midriffs bared in bandeau tops, crop-tops and dresses with cut-out sections to show off the abs.

J-Lo appeared on the set of American Idol in a knotted white shirt and high-waisted shorts that revealed an impressive midriff while Kate Bosworth's Chloe outfit at the Sundance premiere of Another Happy Day showed off a sliver of tum that turned her ensemble from formal to foxy.

Halle Berry's Halston dress at last May's FiFi Awards was cut to expose a whole slice of flat abs and Tara Reid's wedding gown, worn for her impromptu Greek nuptials to Zack Kehayov earlier this month, even included a crop-top.

Not since the 1990s and the height of Beverly Hills 90210 or Rachel Green in Friends have we seen such a proliferation of skimpy outfits baring a perfect midriff.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony's split will not affect the estranged couple's plans to launch clothing lines for a U.S. retailer.

The stars stunned fans by announcing the end of their seven-year marriage last Friday, but a spokesperson for the pair subsequently insisted they are still committed to make their international TV talent show, Q'viva! The Chosen, together this summer.

A representative has now confirmed their planned his and hers fashion collections for Kohl's department stores will also go ahead as planned.

The publicist tells WWD, "The Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony brands have always been positioned as two separate, distinctive collections that offer high-quality contemporary style for men and women, and we look forward to a successful September launch."

Jennifer Lopez's "'Most Beautiful" Cover of People Magazine

When Jennifer Lopez was named the "World's Most Beautiful Woman" by People magazine, she called in to her American Idol co-host's Kiss FM radio show to discuss the honor.

"I'm not 20 years old anymore," Lopez told Ryan Seacrest of being surprised she was chosen. "I'm very excited about it, but when they told me I was like 'What? Really? Ok.' Obviously I was flattered. It's a great honor to even be talked about in that way."

Suprisingly, Lopez says people never tell her she's pretty anymore. "Since I've been married...people don't compliment me. I'm always wondering 'Do I look ok?' Nobody ever says anything."

Even her husband is guilty of this. When asked what her husband of nearly seven years Marc Anthony says about the way she looks, Lopez replied: "Nothing...you have to ask him, get him on." But added, "He loves it, he's very proud. He's like 'Oh, I'm married to the most beautiful woman in the world.'"

She also revealed that she started getting grey hair in her 20's. "My mom and my dad both had grey at young age and I did too. Once I started doing movies, I started going grey. ...Now i have to get it done every two weeks."

Release Date Set for Jennifer Lopez's Next Album

Jennifer Lopez has decided on a release date for her seventh studio album "Love".

The “American Idol” judge's new album has a drop date of March 29. The project, her first since parting ways with Epic Records and signing with Island Def Jam, will feature production from RedOne on the Pitbull-assisted “On the Floor,” along with Tricky Stewart, The-Dream, Danja, and more.

“I think people are gonna be surprised with some of the vocals on this album,” J.Lo recently told Angie Martinez, adding that the record will have something for everyone. “Booty shakers, mid-tempos, feel-good [songs].”

Other releases scheduled for March 29 include Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale, Wiz Khalifa’s Rolling Papers, and Snoop Dogg’s Doggumentary.

Jennifer Lopez looked glamorous on Sunday, February 13 in silver as she showed that she has worked hard to get her body back in shape after giving birth to twins Max and Emme in 2008.

The 41-year-old singer and American Idol judge, who was joined by her husband Marc Anthony, wore a Emilio Pucci dress, Christian Louboutin shoes, Cartier jewels, and a Goa crystal clutch by Daniel Swarovski.

On the red carpet, Jennifer shared what it was like to get back on the music scene.

“It’s been great because it was slow,” J.Lo shared. We didn’t rush anything [after having the twins]. "It’s been a slow steady coming back into the public eye."

Ricky Gervais Was Threatened by Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez, the new judge of American Idol who attended the Golden Globe awards show, apparently threatened Ricky Gervais beforehand.

The 41 year old told Ricky “Listen, I will kill you, you understand. I am from New York, my husband fights… we both fight, we will beat you up after the show…with a couple of bleep bleeps in there.”

Jennifer, who also attended the Ellen DeGeneres show, told the host that while she was present at the Golden Globe Awards she was vey afraid as to what would Ricky reveal about her and her family in the show.

She told Ellen “I was sitting in the audience and was thinking “Oh my God, what’s he gonna say about me?”

Ricky Gervais himself revealed, that he was "terrified by Jennifer’s comments".

Jennifer Lopez Doesn’t Want American Idol Contestants Singing Her Songs

Jennifer Lopez will be a judge on the next season of “American Idol,” but don’t expect to hear too many of her hits being sung during the early audition episodes. Along with Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and familiar face Randy Jackson, Lopez recently finished a round of LA auditions and although she says it was “super entertaining and flattering” to see hopefuls perform her tunes, she’d prefer it if the contestants chose songs from another artist.

She might not have been wowed by everyone, but Lopez still thinks we’re in for a great season, saying that they’ve already found “15-20 real superstars, people who could be recording artists.” As for her philosophy on giving out advice to those who didn’t make the cut, Lopez stated, “I think everyone tried to be as honest as they can without breaking anyone’s spirits. They know we’re not out to cut them down or make a joke of them. We’re trying to mentor them to the next step.”

Although she might seem a bit territorial when it comes to her music, she’s got a point. It’s hard to objectively judge a person who is performing a tune that you made famous. Lopez might be afraid that she’ll have a hard time assessing whether someone is talented or trying to win her favor.

We’ll see how she fares as a judge when “American Idol” returns to TV in a few months.

American Idol has announced who will take over Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres' vacant judges seats. During a live webcast, Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler were named to the judges panel along with incumbent Randy Jackson.

Rumors had been circulating for weeks that they would be the ones to interact with host Ryan Seacrest when the series returns next year for its 10th season.

Both artists have compelling musical backgrounds to support their appointments.

Jennifer Lopez has sold more than 55 million records, and as both an actress and singer, she knows about performing. For his part, Steven Tyler has been in the business for 40 years with his band Aerosmith. He was named one of Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Singers and is a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The Times reports that along with an estimated $12 million paycheck, Lopez is also getting a first-look film deal for her production company with Fox. This means that she will continue making movies in the off-season like the recent one below.

"American Idol" fans are very opinionated when it comes to the judging panel.

Auditions for the 10th season are in full swing, but as the Fox hit continues to comb the country for new talent, producers still have not confirmed a final lineup of judges. Fans waiting to check out the American Idols Live! Tour in Los Angeles on Friday (August 13), offered suggestions about who should dish out feedback when the next season kicks off.

Chloe Coleman is on Team J.Lo and said, "Jennifer Lopez would be interesting."

Kayla Erath said Lopez' star power would mean an uptick in viewers. "I think it would be cool if J. Lo's on it because she's really famous and a lot more people will watch if another famous person is on it."

Taio Cruz and Jennifer Lopez are set to team up for a new music video and remix that's sure to be great.

It all started when Taio Cruz tweeted and then subsequently removed, "Would you guys prefer a 'Dynamite' video featuring just me or a version with a massive female star duetting?"

If the answer is Jennifer Lopez, then yes. Lopez, who recently killed performances at the World Music Awards and the MTV Movie Awards, became the female star in question, after some dancers leaked out the info that they were cast in a music video for Cruz and his new Island/Def Jam labelmate Lopez.

Choreographers and frequent Lopez collaborators Napoleon and Tabitha, or Nappytabs, also let out that they're set to work on Lopez's new video.

The track is Cruz's single "Dynamite," which is already #3 on iTunes behind Eminem and Katy Perry's latest. Cruz will release a Part 2 of the already chart-busting single featuring Lopez.

"Dynamite" is the latest single from Cruz's album "Rokstarr," which features collaborations with Ludacris and Ke$ha. Lopez is set to release her highly anticipated new album later this year.

On Friday, February 5/10, there was a meeting of the divas in Miami, when Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez met for lunch with their friends at the Fontainebleau Hotel.

The two are currently in the sunny city for the Super Bowl weekend festivities. Rihanna performed the previous night for VH1’s Pepsi Super Bowl Fan Jam and is hosting a private party, also sponsored by Pepsi.

With her Starbucks, shades and sleeveless shoulder top, singer/actress Jennifer Lopez headed out to meet Rihanna for lunch at Miami’s Fontainebleau hotel. Rihanna got the party start before Lopez got to the spot, popping champagne poolside with her girls.

Jennifer has been regular visitor in Miami throughout the football season, supporting her husband Marc Anthony since he became a Miami Dolphins owner. Their team didn’t make it into the Super Bowl, but Jennifer is participating on Saturday, February 6/10 in the Celebrity Beach Bowl.

Jennifer Lopez: I deserved an Oscar nomination for my role in 'El Cantante'

In a recent interview with Latina magazine, she talked about her husband Marc Anthony, working with former flames and her Oscar potential.

Lopez revealed a moment of egoism, admitting that she felt her performance in the film "El Cantante," in which she starred with Anthony, should have earned her an Oscar.

"I feel like I had that [Oscar worthy role] in 'El Cantante,' but I don't think the academy members saw it," says Lopez. "It is a little bit frustrating. When the Oscars were on, I had just given birth on the 22nd, and the Oscars I think were a day or two later. I was sitting there with my twins — and I couldn't have been happier — but I was like 'How dope would it have been if I would've won the Oscar and been here in my hospital bed accepting the award?'"

Lopez says that "things will happen when they're supposed to happen" and that she has the "utmost faith and no doubt that it will one day."

She also explains why she doesn't flinch at seeing former flames in her past work.

"Every one of my albums is very spot-on with who I was at the time ... I can't regret the things I did in the past, like putting somebody in a video that I was with. Who cares?" Lopez tells the magazine. "I think people relate to me because they know that I'm not being phony."

That "somebody in a video" might be a reference to backup dancer Cris Judd, whom Lopez met on the set of her music video "Love Don't Cost a Thing" and later married, only to start dating actor Ben Affleck about a year later.

Yet Lopez's high-profile past relationships and previous failed marriages (her first marriage was to Ojani Noa in 1997) has taught her a lot about love, she says.

"You've got to grow with each other; you've gotta bend over backwards for each other," the singer/actress says.

That kind of flexibility and commitment is what makes her most recent marriage, to singer Marc Anthony, such a success.

"Everything is great about my marriage," Lopez says. "We love each other ... in a way that's very deep and meaningful ... We force each other to be better, and I think in a relationship, that's how it should be. You shouldn't be with somebody if he makes you feel less than who you are."

Lopez's next film, a romantic comedy called "The Back Up Plan," hits theaters on April 16.

Jennifer Lopez’s had a fall at the 2009 American Music Awards. She's an expert when it comes to stage performances, so we're really at a loss why she landed on her bottom during her “Louboutins” performance. No one could miss the whole thing even though she bounced right back up and proceeded with the same energy in her performance... something that we admire her for.

However, in the video of the particular performance, J.Lo is clearly seen with a furious expression on her face.

The morning after the AMA, Jennifer appeared on Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM radio show. When the host asked her about her fall, she laughingly replied, “Fall? What fall?” She even joked that the fall was all part of the choreography.

Despite the fall, J.Lo said that she’s very happy to be back on stage and performing: “It was fun, it was really fun. It was nice to be back on stage and doing my thing.”

Jennifer Lopez didn't want details of her marriage to Ojani Noa publicized in a book, and she doesn't want it out there in a movie either. They were married in February 1997 and it ended a year later.

Citing the injunction all parties agreed upon two years ago, lawyers for the singer-actress have sent a cease-and-desist letter to her first ex-husband, Ojani Noa, demanding that he stop trying to profit from his brief marriage to the twice-since remarried star.

According to the letter, Noa's been shopping a film project called "How I Married Jennifer Lopez: The JLo and Ojani Noa Story" and has advertised for players on an open-casting website.

"It would strain credulity to the breaking point for those involved in the writing, development and the pre-production of the Proposed Film to claim that they were not aware" of the injunction in place, Lopez attorney John Lavely wrote.

The injunction prevented Noa from publishing a supposed tell-all book a few years back that claimed Lopez, among other things, was hooking up with Marc Anthony while the singer was still married. He was also ordered to pay $545,000 in damages for breaking a confidentiality clause he signed in 2005.

But despite its straightforward title, the film's executive producer states that the film would start with Noa's arrival from Cuba on U.S. shores and take him through his courtship of and yearlong marriage to Lopez, and end with her ill-fated 2002 engagement to Ben Affleck. The film would detail Lopez's alleged infidelities while married to Noa. He also claims Lopez cheated on various boyfriends with him.

"It's a parody, so usually law doesn't apply to the story unless it's something serious," she said. "It's showing that he can get over it. It's comic. This is not about Jennifer Lopez's life, this is about Ojani's life."

After taking a year off to care for Emme and Max, the 18-month-old twins that she had by her husband Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez is back at work recording an album and has a film called "The Back-Up Plan" already completed.

She says she hates being away from the children, but has found an interesting way of keeping in touch. "I call up on the web camera so I can see them while I'm away and just look at them," says the 40-year-old actress. "Then my daughter starts crying when she sees me on screen. She holds out her arms to me and gets very upset. It breaks my heart if I'm away from them even for a short time." She adds twins can be "hard work", but she has a nanny to help out.

Also on news about Jennifer...her husband Marc Anthony has become a partial owner of the Miami Dolphins, "I'm a huge sports fan," says Anthony, 40. "These opportunities don't come around too often. It's quite an honor and a privilege to be able to sit here today saying that I'm a part-owner of an NFL team." Anthony struck a deal with Stephen Ross, the New York-based real estate entrepreneur who bought a 95-percent stake in the Dolphins franchise in January. The singer did not disclose the financial terms. "It would have probably been cheaper just to buy season tickets," he said, joking.

Anthony says he and wife Jennifer Lopez are house hunting now. "Jennifer loves Miami," he says. "So she's really, really happy about this because we're going to be spending a lot of time down there."

Jennifer Lopez turns 40 years today and she kicked off the celebration last night.

The actress has been busy filming The Back-Up Plan in New York and took some time off to party with the crew and husband Marc Anthony. She had a huge chocolate cake to share with everyone. It featured a big photo of herself and the message: "Jennifer...thanks for being our Plan A! You're the best. And...happy birthday!" She also got kisses from her husband and toasted with champagne.

Despite turning the dreaded 40, a milestone that has most women pretending it doesn't exist, Jenny was very happy throughout the event. Do you miss her over-the-top J.Lo days or do you like the new softer, domesticated side of Jennifer? Either way, Happy Birthday!
