Server and DNS Woes

I’m just happy that my blog is up again. For two days I couldn’t access my blog. Every time I typed my url on the browser, the “default website page” is shown with the following messages.

If you are the web site owner, it is possible you have reached this page because:

    The IP address has changed.
There has been a server misconfiguration.
The site may have been moved to a different server.

If you are the owner of this website and were not expecting to see this page, please contact your hosting provider.

I checked with my webhost and I found out in their Twitter account that the server where this blog is hosted was stuck at 10% memory on starting up. Well, I really don’t know what that means. They worked on it but still I couldn’t access my blog.

Finally, after several misses, I found the solution to the problem — ipconfig/ flush dns.
So now, I’m back.

Easy Math For Everyone

When I was a student, Mathematics was always my Waterloo. I was really very poor in numbers. I could only muster a passing grade — always in the borderline between getting a failing grade and just barely passing the subject. I was really allergic to any subject which needs mathematical computations. Even now I am still dependent on the calculator for some computations. Well, I think my daughter took after me. She’s also weak in Mathematics. Last year, I had several consultations with her Mathematics teacher because she was doing poorly in Math.

Not wanting to have an audience with her Mathematics teacher again this school year, I browsed the Internet for tips and methods of teaching Mathematics to children.

I had an Aha moment when I stumbled upon Vedic Mathematics. I’ve never heard of it before but I tried to read about it and studied it. Wow! It’s really magic for me and I know it will work wonders for my child.

Vedic Mathematics comes from the Vedas of India. The Vedas are known to be the earliest written record of the Indo-Aryan civilization. All of the branches of knowledge like Astronomy, Literature, Medicine, including Mathematics are discussed in the Vedas. The system of Vedic Maths was said to be rediscovered from ancient Sanskrit texts early last century. The system is based on 16 sutras or aphorisms. I’m really not in a position to discuss the sutras. I’m just amazed and excited to know that vedic mathematics is an effective method of doing mathematical calculations at great speed, greater accuracy and ease. These short cut methods were never taught in school what I know is the conventional method or the long method of multiplying.

I’m sure these math tricks would be of great help to my child who is still struggling with her Math lessons. I’ve been teaching her some of the easy tricks for two nights already and she’s doing fine. Hopefully, there will be no more appointments with her Math teacher.
