<p>Presented by the ALCTS Continuing Resources Section, the <strong>Ulrich&#8217;s Serials Librarianship Award</strong> consists of a citation and $1,500, generously donated by ProQuest.  The deadline for nominations is <strong>December 1, 2009</strong>.</p>
<p>The award is presented to an individual who has made distinguished and ongoing contributions to serials librarianship, including but not limited to:</p>
<p>- Demonstrated leadership in the serials community through significant contributions to the work of professional associations and/or to library education programs</p>
<p>- Scholarship that has had a significant impact on the profession</p>
<p>- Research that advances the theory or practice of serials librarianship</p>
<p>- Development of tools or methods that enhance the access to or management of serials</p>
<p>- Other advances that lead to a better understanding of the field of serial librarianship</p>
<p>Nomination packets should include a letter of nomination; three to five letters of support; the nominee&#8217;s resume; examples (no more than three) of the nominee&#8217;s publications or other relevant documents. Self-nominations are welcome.</p>
<p>The award will be formally presented at the ALCTS Awards Ceremony during the 2010 ALA Annual Conference in Washington, DC.</p>

<p>We are currently soliciting nominations for the American Library Association&#8217;s Beta Phi Mu Award.</p>
<p>The Beta Phi Mu Award consists of $1000 and a citation of achievement presented to a library school faculty member or to an individual for distinguished service to education in librarianship. Nominations must be accompanied by a specific statement of the qualifications of the nominee. The award is donated by the Beta Phi Mu International Library Science Honorary Society, and administered by a jury of the ALA Awards Committee. The awardee will join a distinguished list of librarians who have made a decided difference in the lives of their students and in the library profession.</p>
<p>The nomination form is available on ALA&#8217;s web site at</p>

<p>We want you to show the national and international library community your best ideas!</p>
<p>Proposals for poster sessions to be presented at the 2010 ALA Annual Conference are now being accepted. An application form is available on the poster session website for both US and international submissions. Please be aware that the deadline is January 1st, 2010, to allow time for review before the ALA Early Bird Registration Deadline!</p>

<p>The 2010 ALA Annual Poster Sessions will be held at the ALA Annual Conference in Washington, DC on June 26, 27, and 28, 2010 at The Washington Convention Center (Saturday, Sunday, and Monday of the conference).</p>
<p>Please contact Candace Benefiel, Chair of the ALA Poster Session Review Panel, with any questions concerning the review process. Her email address is cbenefie@lib-gw.tamu.edu; if you need to call, her number is (979) 862-1044.</p>
<p>The deadline for submitting an application is January 1, 2010. Applicants will be notified by March 2nd, 2010 whether their submission has been accepted for presentation at the conference.</p>

EDT. <strong>Event Description:</strong><br />
An emergent trend in higher education today is the ever-increasing number of faculty who are allowing students to create video and multimedia projects as an alternative to the traditional research paper. This session will explore the current and future roles academic libraries and librarians should play in this environment. The topics covered in this session are: digital literacy and the librarian’s role, working effectively with faculty on assignment design, and digital storytelling &amp; video assignments and the academic library’s support role.</p>
<p><strong>Guest Presenter Bios:</strong></p>

<td><strong>Ellysa Stern Cahoy</strong>, is Assistant Head of Library Learning Services in the Penn State University Libraries, University Park.  A former children&#8217;s librarian and school library media specialist, Ms. Cahoy has published research and presented on information literacy, library orientation, evidence-based librarianship and library instruction.   She is a Faculty Fellow in Penn State’s Teaching and Learning with Technology unit, focused on defining a model for student digital literacy acquisition within the online content creation process.   Ms. Cahoy is Co-Director of the Central Pennsylvania K-16 Information Literacy Network and serves on the Executive Committee of the Association of College &amp; Research Libraries (ACRL) Instruction Section.</td>

<td><strong> </strong><strong>Ms. Vedantham</strong>, is the Director of the Weigle Information Commons at the Penn Libraries. She came to Penn in 2007 from the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, where she directed the Southern Regional Educational Technology Training Center (ETTC) for six years providing professional development and technology models for college faculty and K-12 teachers. She also served as Interim Associate Provost and as Director of Instructional Technology. Her research on global warming has been recognized by the Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change (IPCC) as a significant contribution to the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. Ms. Vedantham holds her New Jersey Principal Certificate and served for two years as Director of Grants and Community Initiatives at Stafford Township School District. In the mid-90s, Ms. Vedantham served as Program Officer at the Telecommunications Opportunities Program at the United States Department of Commerce. She completed her Masters in Public Affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University and her Bachelors and Masters in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Ms. Vedantham is pursuing her doctorate in Higher Education Management at Penn&#8217;s Graduate School of Education.</td>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The American Library Association (ALA) is accepting nominations for the 2010 John Ames Humphry/ OCLC/Forest Press Award for International Librarianship. The award is given to a librarian or person who has made significant contributions to international librarianship. It consists of a prize of $1,000 and a certificate presented at the ALA Annual Conference. The deadline for nominations is Jan. 1, 2010.</p>
<p>The award recognizes John Humphry, an executive director of Forest Press and publisher of the Dewey Decimal Classification who made a notable contribution by internationalizing the English language editions of Dewey and ensuring that translations were adapted to meet the needs of other cultures and countries.</p>
<p>All nominations should include, as appropriate, personal history or curriculum vitae, with emphasis on achievements related to international librarianship; bibliography, critical reviews, articles, etc.; and letters seconding the nomination or other letters of commendation or appreciation.
