Our dearest daughter Lucia,

Right now as I type this, you are tummy to tummy with your daddy, and both of you are asleep on the lazy boy. My heart is filled with inexplicable joy looking at you both. You are 11 weeks old now.

I have so much I want to tell you and I don't even know where to begin!

I thank the Lord you were a very easy baby in my tummy and you didn't give me a hard time at all. I only had a few weeks of nausea, but the rest of the pregnancy was a breeze! I continued to work, I worked out, I didn't really have any crazy cravings, plus I never got sick! I gained just 20 pounds with you in my tummy so it was easy to carry you around. I loved having you in my tummy because your presence calmed me and made me feel I was never alone—literally.

You were seven and a half months in my tummy when your Abuelito, my dad, passed away. It was a very, very difficult time especially since your Lola Ofel, Ninong JC and Ninang Aissa live abroad, so it was only me with your Abuelito's sisters who dealt with everything. I cried so much. We drifted apart after he and your Lola were separated, but of course he was still my dad and I loved him. Do you know that he was very excited to meet you? He was so happy to find out I was pregnant, and extra happy when he found out you were a girl. His friends and workmates told me how excited he was about you. Since his two other apos, your cousins Roco and Sabine both live abroad, he was very excited to finally have an apo he can spend time with. I remember the first time I visited him in the ICU.. I held his hand.. I told him that even if he was asleep, I knew that he felt me there by his side, and that he felt you too.. I told him, this is your apo, as I rubbed my tummy.. Even if he couldn't respond, I know in my heart he was so happy to "meet" you. It was such a painful time and you were the one who kept me strong. You were such a brave girl. Even if I cried so much, I felt that you were so strong and that made me strong, too. Knowing that you were the happy thought of your Abuelito during his final days made me so happy. That is when we really decided that your name should be Lucia. Because your name means "light", and you were definitely the light during that very difficult time.

For some reason, I was certain you would be born at 38 weeks. I didn't pack my hospital bag until you were 37 weeks in my tummy, and your dad packed his bag a week after! It was a Thursday afternoon when I started to feel a different kind of stomach cramp. That night, the contractions got more frequent, they got more intense past midnight, and when I was sure that I was in labor, I took a nice, long, hot bath, put lotion all over, dressed up, and when I was set, I woke up your dad and said, "Its time, let's go to the hospital." We got to the hospital at around 8AM, and sure enough, I was 7 centimeters dilated already. By 2PM on October 23, 2015, you were born, as I guessed, at 38 weeks.

I can't even begin to describe how surreal it was that after pushing just eight times, you were out in the world, you gave out that first cry, and you were placed on my chest. Your skin was so red and your cheeks so full! Your daddy was there beside me the whole time, helping me through the delivery. Do you know he even cut your umbilical cord? Yes, he did! That was the day you changed our lives. I finally understood what parents mean when they say its love like you've never felt before.

These first few weeks home have been a rollercoaster! You bring so, so, so much love and joy to your daddy and me, but at the same time, we're so scared and nervous, so tired and sleepless, and sometimes we feel helpless when you're fussy and we don't know why. It breaks our heart to hear you cry, especially when we can't make you stop. It fills our heart when you stare straight at us with your big, round eyes. It melts our heart when you give us those big smiles, when you continuously coo as if speaking to us, and when you flash those adorable dimples (which honestly, we don't know where you got because neither your daddy or I have dimples!) Your daddy and I often joke—when you're awake and can't sleep, all we want is for you to fall asleep. When you're asleep, all we want to do is wake you up so we can play with you again! Confession: oftentimes when you are asleep, we're both on our phones looking at photos and videos of you!

I've had many, many challenging, difficult and tiring jobs, but being a mother is THE toughest job I've ever had to do. Most all mother and baby photos I see or articles I read are about the happiness and laughter.. hardly anyone ever talks about the frustration and the tears. Apparently, motherhood comes with both. During the tougher days (aka your fussy days), I just think to myself, every single mother on the planet was able to do this, so I can too. I only have one shot at taking care of you every single day, and I hope I'm doing a good enough job, because you deserve nothing but the best. This is the most "trying hard" I've ever been my whole life, because I want to be the best mom I can be to you.

I'm so lucky because you have an awesome daddy. He does everything, helps me with everything, is super hands on, and if only dads could breastfeed, he most probably would, too. As early as now I can see it, the way you two look at each other, you two will be magkakampi when you grow up. Daddy's girl, no doubt.

Everyone says the first year goes by so fast, and that we should enjoy every moment of it. Some of your socks and onesies are already too small for you, and we really see how fast you're growing, chubby cheeks and double chin and all!

We are so excited for your many firsts—your first laugh, first word (will it be Mama or Dada??), your first steps, the first time you can hug and kiss us back, and so much more. We wanna show you so many things and travel to so many places with you. We love you so much its crazy. You truly are the light of our lives.

I hope this mushy letter doesn't embarrass you by the time you're old enough to understand it!

MY PREGGO MUST-HAVES

This post is dedicated to all to-be first time moms like me! This is my first time to experience being pregnant, and I still have sooo many questions myself, but I would like to share a few things I found very useful for me during my pregnancy.

Here are my 9 pregnancy must-haves. Hope it helps!

1. PRE-NATAL PILATES

Prior to getting pregnant, I’ve been taking pilates for over four years already. Am so lucky to not have had a maselan pregnancy, and so my OB allowed and even encouraged me to keep working out! She says that prior to pregnancy, since I was used to working and working out, that I should just continue because it is what my body is used to. (Makes sense to me!)

I cannot imagine having had gone through this pregnancy without working out. Much like when not pregnant, working out gives you a rush of energy—something really needed when preggo because you feel extra tired a lot of times. It helps strengthen all the parts of your body that you need to keep strong, to carry your growing belly (bibigat talaga siya!) and to eventually push your baby out. And one of the most masarap parts of the session, it stretches all the cramped up parts of your body and relieves you of pain or discomfort.

Some are allowed to work out the whole pregnancy, but in a lot of cases, regular workouts are recommended after the first trimester is over. I am even more strict with myself going now, compared to when I wasn’t pregnant! I have been going twice a week for one-on-one one hour sessions at Options Studio in Podium and Timog, with my wonderful trainers Reea and Kit.

2. BABY PLUS

It’s basically a belt pack that plays beats. In a nutshell, the explanation behind it is that while the baby is in the tummy, yes, he or she hears all kinds of sounds like our voices or music, but the simplest recognizable pattern at that stage is the mother’s heartbeat. So the Baby Plus plays beats much like an adult’s heartbeat at level 1, and goes faster and faster until level 16, and “teaches” the baby inside the tummy about recognizing patterns. Pretty convincing for me! Parents and experts note benefits like early milestones, longer attention spans, and strong motor skills.

I didn’t play any music like classical or jazz or nature sounds to our baby this whole pregnancy. I decided to stick with just the Baby Plus. I learned about the product from my sister-in-law Tracy who used it on both her kids, Roco and Sabine.

You start using this at around 5 months of pregnancy.

3. BELLY ARMOR

This is an anti-radiation blanket that I use all the time to cover my belly, since I am always on my phone and my laptop for work.

4. DREAM GENII

I got this pillow as a gift from Mothercare when I was around 4 months pregnant. At that time, my tummy was just like a puson, so it was only when I hit around 7.5 months when my tummy really got bigger that I felt the tremendous benefits of this pillow. As your tummy gets heavier, wow, it gets harder and harder to find a position to sleep. This pillow perfectly cushions the side of your tummy, and your lower back, for a good night’s sleep. I literally always sigh a loud “Aaah,” at night when I lie down on this.

5. STRETCH COTTON AND SHAPELESS DRESSES

I didn’t buy a single maternity clothing piece these past months. I didn’t want to spend on those stretch waist shorts or jeans because I won’t be able to use it anymore post pregnancy! I decided to buy only things that I would be able to use even when I go back to my regular body.

I love wearing tummy hugging clothes—especially when my tummy really started to get bigger—because I’m really proud/kilig/happy to show my big belly! Whatever shape or size a pregnant woman is, for me, there is something so beautiful and sexy about embracing the growing belly. Mas masarap nga magsuot ng fitted pag buntis kasi hindi kailangan maging conscious sa “stomach in” buong gabi! Haha! And since dresses like these are made of stretch cotton or jersey, I can definitely use them even when I’m not pregnant anymore. Same goes for shapeless dresses! Thank God uso sila this year! They are so comfy, and will still be useable post pregnancy.

6. SKIN CARE REGIMEN

I’ve always been very low maintenance, but I was always very particular about always washing my face and moisturizing. But I became more strict with myself about religiously doing my skin care regimen when I got pregnant. When I hit around 2. 5 months of my pregnancy, my skin super broke out, both on my face and my back. They say it’s a normal symptom due to our changing hormone levels, but I wanted to do something about it. It is sooo easy to be tamad when you're pregnant because ang dami mo na ngang ibang inaalala at pinagdadaanan—but I realized its time like these we should put in extra effort, also so we feel better about ourselves!

My regimen is quite simple and short. In the morning, I would cleanse, tone, and moisturize using Olay Total Effects, around the whole face and until the neck. (Kasi paniniwala dito, lalong umiitim ang leeg kapag buntis.) Before sleeping, at night, I would cleanse, tone, moisturize, and apply eye cream using SKII, also a P&G product. Sure enough, I never did break out again the rest of my pregnancy, and people seemed to compliment my skin even more than when I wasn’t pregnant. (Pwera bola!) To those asking, yes, as confirmed by the P&G R&D in Singapore, these products are safe for pregnant women.

I also did around two visits for a facial at Facial Care Center. Yes, also very safe for pregnant women because they don’t use any chemicals or medicine on the face. Just steaming and cleaning those clogged pores.

7. STRETCH MARK CREAM

Sobrang mahal! But worth it din kasi talaga. Sobrang mahal ng stretchmark cream—I use both Clarins and Mustela—and so far, so good because there were no signs of stretch marks even until I reached full term. I generously apply around my belly, even until the lower back, breast area, butt, and outer and inner thighs.

I plan to keep using it even after giving birth, because a lot of moms shared that sometimes, its when you “shrink” after that they appear.

8. BIRTHING CLASS WITH CHIQUI HAHN

My husband JC and I took this around our 8^th month. It is usually a once a week, six session class, but since it was close to impossible to make our schedules meet, thankfully, Chiqui also does a one day crash course from 8AM to 6PM.

This is something I really wanted to do, because I wanted to understand what really will be going on in my body when I’m in labor. More than just the breathing techniques, I loved that she explained the order of how things will go when we reach the hospital, how to tell false alarms from the real thing, different realistic scenarios, the details on how exactly a baby is delivered, so that when the day comes, I understand what is happening to my body, instead of just being clueless and in pain. It was also so important to my husband to be there, so that he understands what is going on, beyond the possible moans and tears when the big day comes. In fact, he wants to be the one to cut the umbilical cord when our daughter comes out!

The class was so worth it. Just Google the name Chiqui Hahn to find out about her classes.

A side note on pregnancy books:

I only used the “What To Expect When You’re Expecting” phone app to help me keep track of the number of weeks and the fruit that corresponds to the size of the baby at each stage (super cute!), but I don’t really recommend the book and articles itself because a lot of it can make a pregnant woman praning, at a time that she should just be super chill and super happily carrying a baby. I would rather recommend “Expecting Better” by Emily Oster, a very realistic, practical, chill book recommended to me by another mom, Stephanie Zubiri.

9. BREASTFEEDING CLASS WITH THE PARENTING EMPORIUM

I took this session when I hit my 37^th week of pregnancy. I am committed to doing all that I can to breastfeed our baby for as long as I can. I have been warned that breastfeeding is much, much harder than people think it is. A lot say mas mahirap pa ang breastfeeding kaysa sa panganganak! I am already psyching myself for the tough road ahead. The benefits of breastfeeding are definitely worth it. It really is “best for babies.”

This class with Beng Feliciano, a mom of 3, and Joy Martinez, an internationally certified lactation expert was so helpful! I learned about how we come to produce milk, how little the baby really only needs especially when new born, the possible complications, the ways to address complications, how to keep it going, and so much more. Since I plan to do my best to balance being hands on and a working mom, I also purchased a Medela Breast Pump from The Parenting Emporium, and it is only on the 37^th week or onwards that you can be “fitted” for the breast shield for the pump.

PART 3: OUR VOWS

It was a perfect mix of sunny and breezy that December afternoon. In a gorgeous garden chapel in El Nido, Palawan, and in front of our parents, siblings, closest friends, godparents, and God, we shared our personal vows.

PEOPLE OF MY YEAR 2014

It will definitely be tough for me to top my 2014. 2014 was filled with crazy ups and downs, but it was one of those years that proved to me that as long as you persevere and give it your best, all will be well. Sure enough, my year ended on the best note possible: I released my dream book project and I married the love of my life.

I end every year with a blog post on the people that made the biggest impact in my life. It is usually a list of 10, but for this year, I'm keeping it simple.

The #projectBG team

While working on my book #PaanoBaTo, I coined the tag #projectBG. It is so surreal that it seems like only a few months ago that I told my friends, "Hey, I wanna write a book," and now, the book is on the Bestsellers list of Philippine publications. (Aaah! To God be the glory!) When you put your heart into it, when bank on your strengths, when you work your ass off, it is true—dreams do come true.

Meet, from the left side, Wena Manalastas, PR manager for #PaanoBaTo; Abbey Sy, letterer; Guia Galvez, contributing writer; Ionne Ocampo, layout artist; and Pete Rich, illustrator. All so young (and I mean early and mid-20s), all so talented and driven, all with a very bright future ahead. I can't think of better creatives to work with on this dream project of mine.

Of course the book would not be possible without my Business and Support Team, here is Mylin Montecillo, Honey Bagsic, Peewee Reyes-Isidro, Allen de Guzman, and Sophie Menor. Not in the photo but also very much part of my book are Pierra Calasanz-Labrador, Em Eladia, Archie Carrasco, Sari Yap, and Suki Salvador. This is also the team working extra to get the books back on the shelves soonest.

A book just seems like a book that one person wrote, but really, it took a whole team to make it happen. And I am so grateful!

On December 4, 2014, in front of an intimate group of all those closest to our hearts, I said "I Do" to my boyfriend of almost 4 years, on an island that really felt like paradise.

When we say intimate, we mean intimate. Everyone you see with us in the photo above—they were the 35 guests we had at our little island adventure. They were all part of this dream wedding, and all part of this list. JC's family, Papa Nars, Mama Ning, PJ and Abby, Mark and Reg, JR and Pearl, Rex, and Vica. My family, Daddy Chito, Mommy Ofel, JC and Tracy, Sabine and Roco, Aissa, and nanay Virgie. Our dearest couple friends, JayR and Jen Reyes, Julian and Marion H. del Pilar, Zach and Anj Estoesta, Zion and Karla Laterre, Doug and Cheska Kramer. Our beloved ninongs and their gorgeous wives, Direk Lauren and Liz Dyogi, Coach Norman and Benjie Black, Doc Raul and Glennda Canlas. And our dearest officiating priest Fr. Tito Caluag.

Walang perfect sa mundo, but I swear, from the gorgeous El Nido scenery, to the weather, to the sunshine and breeze that morning, to the candle-lit afternoon ceremony, to the remote island reception, til the throwing-into-the-pool at the after party, our wedding—to us—seemed perfect. Thank you, God!

Not in this photo but also a huge part of our wedding, this list, and those we are extremely grateful to, are Team Pat Dy, our photographer, who captured the most priceless moments; Team Jason Magbanua, our videographer, who is truly the best at sharing what a couple's love is all about; Liz Uy and her styling team, for patiently coordinating with every single person in our group about our looks; Robert Blancaflor, our florist and event stylist, who made magic and made everything look like a dream-come-to-life; the Rosa Clara Philippines team, because I am so in love with my gown and would not have worn any other; Celline Bautista, who lovingly made our girls' entourage dresses; and to the amazing El Nido team for making everything so easy for me to arrange (we had no wedding coordinator), Meps Pe, Brian Ong, and Jel Lagman. You are all angels to me and JC!

And of course, to the most important person in this list, my husband, John Christopher Antonio Intal, thank you for your support, patience, and love. Thank you God for the gift of you talaga!!!!

PART 2: THE "PRE NUP SHOOT"

We really didn't want to do what they call a "pre nup shoot" or an "engagement shoot" or whatever else its called. JC and I couldn't imagine ourselves wearing a gown and a suit, all decked out, looking into the horizon.. emoting. Di namin kaya!! Besides, I told JC, "Where would we use those photos?" So we really weren't supposed to do the shoot.

Until our awesome wedding photographer Pat Dy—who is one of the first photographers I ever worked with when I started modeling when I was 17 years old—sent me a message on whatsapp one day saying, "Tara, shoot na tayo!" I told him we really couldn't do the whole formal shoot thing. "Steady lang naman kami, di kami ma-ganyan." He said, "Isip tayo concept." He then sent me a photo of a couple wearing just house clothes, taking a selfie in the bathroom.

That was when we agreed on the idea of doing a very laid back, staycation type of shoot.

Everything seemingly fell into place. My dear friend and top stylist Liz Uy instantly said, "Game!" when I asked her if she would like to come along and style the shoot. Another dear friend and top makeup artist RB Chanco also said yes without batting an eyelash, and she took along hairstylist Janet de Rama to complete our "look". And our super generous friends from Raffles Hotel Makati, headed by Gem Valmores, willingly lent us their suite for us to have the shoot in. The day before the shoot, Pat told me our wedding videographer, the amazing Jason Magbanua was also free, "At sasama daw siya para mag-shoot shoot lang."

On the day of the shoot, everything WAS super chill and laid back. JC seemed to be more at ease in front of the camera, at parang ako yung mas kinabahan! We ordered pizza for everyone, and even the pizza made it into the shot. Everything was done in around 4 hours, because everyone was a breeze to work with.

We got our wish of not having to "pose", our wish to just be "us", like how we'd naturally be with each other. We also now have these photos to tell our future grandkids, "Uy, fit na fit din kami nung kabataan namin." LOL. We realized that that's why Pat Dy and Jason Magbanua are #1 in the industry—they don't impose on the couple, they let the personality of the couple shine. The Pre-Wedding Film that Jason did was pleasantly, surprisingly, and kilig-ingly (I know walang word na ganun, but it describes it well) a collection of what we were doing when photos weren't being taken. We can't thank this whole team enough for making these captured memories possible—you guys ROCK!!!!

PART 1: THE PROPOSAL

Planning the start of the rest of your life with your husband is one of the most WONDERFULLY AWESOME and OVERWHELMING experiences in life.

There are so many amazing people that helped us put everything together, and so much gratitude is owed. I will try my very best to give justice to our loved ones who helped us make everything as humanly perfect as can be.

This story begins on the (early) morning of March 20, 2014 (early as in 4:00AM), when I got to the airport for my flight to London. Little did I know that there was a huge surprise waiting for me. Our now-ninong-and-ninang Kuya Alan and Ate Lani Cayetano, who helped my husband JC put this all together, apparently hired a videographer to surprise us with this preserved memory of what happened that morning.

Time To Bake!

Minsan kailangan mo talaga ng creative break from work!! Watercolor painting, painting on canvas, rubber stamping, and other ways to de-stress are a must from time to time. For this past weekend, I decided to take on a childhood hobby.. baking! Growing up, my sister Aissa and I loved to bake cookies, brownies, muffins, and even cakes, from different recipe books we saw at home.

I looked up a lot of oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipies from the net and chose this from the Betty Crocker website, but did a few adjustments on my own! It turned out well so I'm sharing the recipe and step by step process with you! To first time bakers reading this, baking is really easy because everything is calculated!

First, fire up your oven to 350°F, or 176°C. This is just to pre-heat.

Then mixed the dry ingredients together: 2 cups quick-cooking oats (that's different from instant!), 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 1/4 cup of chocolate chips (I prefer the semi-sweet kind). Set that aside.

In a separate bowl will be your wet ingredients. Mix together 1 cup softened butter and 1 1/2 cup brown sugar. Remember, softened butter doesn't mean stick it in a microwave to make it melt! That changes the consistency of the butter. Just leave out out the refrigerator for a bit to make it soften.

Then mix in 1 egg and 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla.

Make sure to mix only in one direction. You'll know the batter is smooth enough when the sugar and butter have no chunks left.

Mix together the dry ingredients and the wet ingredients. I like putting it in portion by portion so that it is easier to mix. When batter starts to get thick, use the folding technique instead. That's using the spoon to scoop from below and "fold" on top, repeatedly and circling the bowl. Set aside.

I like greasing the pan so that the cookies don't stick to them after. Remember the stick of butter earlier? So the easiest way to grease the pan is just to save the wrapper of the stick of butter and rub the inside on the pan itself. Keeps your hands clean too!

Get a tablespoon's worth of the batter, roll into a ball, and place on the pan two inches away from each other.

Stick in the oven and set the timer to 12 minutes.

Make sure you check on your cookies at around the 8 minute mark. Sometimes, at the 9th or 10th minute, you'll see the edges of the cookies start to brown. When that happens, you need not wait for the 12 minutes to finish. Important tip too! Stop opening the oven to "check" on what you are baking! When cool air from the outside enters the oven, that also affects baking time.

Cooling the cookies are just as important as baking! No need for a cooling tray, just use your wooden table trays (for hot dishes) and set your baking pan there. Don't try to lift the cookies right away because they may crumble when fresh out of the oven. Make them cool for a bit first.

When done cooling, tadaaaaa! Time to eat! It's a very simple recipe perfect for first time bakers! I hope you try it out, and I hope you like it. If you do try it out, let me know what you think of the recipe!

A DAY IN MY LIFE (IN THE EYES OF OTHERS)

Social media has really changed the landscape of everything.

The photo above is a screencap of how my day went, at least, according to other people who tagged me in their photos. Isn't that amazing? A bit creepy, quite cool, but nevertheless amazing.

Let me give you a peek into a bit of what my timeline looks like, with little bits of what really happened in real life.

I was invited by the organizers of the DLSU Student Media Congress to give an hour and a half talk/workshop on hosting.

What happened in real life: I spent the whole morning at our cover shoot for meg magazine in our studio in Eastwood. We ended by 230PM. Our photographer for the day, BJ Pascual, was also giving a talk on Fashion Photography at the same congress, so we were stuck in terrible traffic together and actually got to DLSU at 4PM. (Our talk was supposed to be at 330.) We apologized profusely to the students who signed up for our class.

When they asked me to do a talk, Trish, one of the organizers, mentioned to me that there would probably be over 50 students attending the talk, but that there could be more because registration was still ongoing. On the day itself, there were over 250 students!!!! I was amazed at how many students there are interested in hosting!

I gave a talk on 10 Things I've Learned About Hosting. A few things I shared: Know your stuff. Research. You will face rejection. Deal with it. Gain experience. Find your voice. Have just the right amount of energy and confidence, wag OA.

It is really quite tough to "workshop" 250+ students. A hands on workshop would be feasible for a group of 10 or 20. So to at least make it a bit more like an exercise, from time to time, I'd engage the students in different hosting exercises: the importance of spontaneity, how to do an effective introduction, why it is more important to listen than to talk when interviewing, the crazy things that can happen during a live show, what live reportage is really like, and so on.

What happened in real life: Since the traffic was so bad and we were late 30 minutes, my talk that was supposed to end at 5 extended to 530. My throat hurt like hell. Talking for an hour and a half straight (with matching sigaw, tawa, acting) is no joke! It was great to see faces in the crowd that were really engaged. Some seemed like they were NR, but I hope they learned a thing or two as well.

What happened in real life: This talk made me feel like I was coming full circle. Doing research for my presentation, I discovered that my first ever official hosting job in ABS-CBN was for a show called Review Night on Cinema One. That was in August 2004. I can't believe I have been hosting for a full decade already. It has been a tough and amazing journey in this career.

What happened in real life: By no means do I see myself as a great host, I have SO MUCH MORE to learn and improve on, but to be given the chance to share what I have learned, at least this far into being in the industry, is a great blessing and opportunity. And to have people want to hear advice from me about it is really humbling and fulfilling.

That night was the 16th Anniversary Party of meg magazine. On behalf of the team, I was asked to give welcoming remarks to the crowd.

What happened in real life: After the talk at DLSU, I had an important writing deadline to meet. After battling terrible traffic (again) from Manila to the Fort (where the event is), I camped out at a quiet cafe to write. After ordering a sandwich, I was told their wifi was busted. Kaloka. I ate my sandwich quickly and moved to another cafe. I ordered a hot chocolate this time, and again, was told that the wifi was busted. I ended up using my own Tattoo pocket wifi. I finished what I had to write and sent the email. My Fashion Editor Rain met up with me and we rode the car together to the party. Rain held up a jacket to cover me as I changed from my top and pants into my dress and heels. I put on lipstick. Then we arrived at the party venue.

It was awesome to see so many people come out to support meg, despite the heavy traffic and the hassle weather the whole night.

What happened in real life: I'm actually going through a phase now. Feeling like I'm in a rut. Asking myself where should I take myself career-wise, where I'll be in 5 years, and other questions that usually pop up when one is at a life crossroad. But this whole day, from working behind the scenes at a shoot, to giving a talk to a room filled with students with big dreams, to being stuck in seemingly endless traffic, to being all alone in a cafe with the clicking of my keyboard, to celebrating in a noisy club with a team I love, all made me realize that we should really remind ourselves not to worry too much. That although it is cliche, we should really count our blessings and not our problems. It is normal to slip away and feel blue, but know that life will surprise you with moments that will make you pick yourself up and carry on.

I am really loco over Roco!!!! Roco Pamintuan Gonzalez is the super smart, super guapo (biased Ninang) son of my brother JC and I can't get enough of his photos in our family Whatsapp chat group and on Instagram through the accounts of my brother @ziggydala and his wife @chochosmama!

Our family's little princess and Roco's little sister, meet Sabine Gonzalez! Just the cutest, sweetest baby girl who is the apple of our family's eyes. Always salingkit and gaya gaya with her Kuya Roco's activities, it is just a joy to watch her do anything. Don't grow up so fast, Beanie!

Viviana Gangoso Santos is beyond adorable! She is the daughter of my best friend @pepelsantos and wife @mstrissa. This photo was taken the same night she told her dad (who had a long day at work), "Daddy did you work hard for us today?" Gaaaah! Gigil!

My inaanak Diego Picazo Garcia is the incredibly cute unico hijo of my best friend @pampicazogarcia and husband @garciamaui. Always so sweet and often a ball of energy, he's sure to be the life of the party when he grows older.. just like his parents are!

This cutiepatootie is Camden De Jong Pamintuan, son of @tjpamintuan and @chardejong. His droopy eyes and funny smile (you should see the videos!) will surely make you say "aaaw!" A huge bonus are his adorable #OOTDs and #shoeselfies care of his momma.

This future heartbreaker will make you want to bite his cheeks off! Gavin Garcia Kramer, son of @dougkramer44 and @chekakramer, may be a heartthrob now but wait til he grows older! It is such a huge plus that he's a major sweetheart too.

The eldest of the bunch, it is crazy how time flies! Just feels like yesterday when Noelle Lagdameo Martinez, daughter of @mikaelamartinez and @chuchomartinez77 was born! Now she is into music, art, sports, is super smart at school, and gorgeous. Watch out for this super achiever!

But of course there are also kids who may not be my inaanaks but I am so crazy fond of!!!!

Tyler and Tiff Ablan Reyes, kids of JC's best friend @jayrreyes and wife @jenreyes08, are the absolute sweetest kids you will ever meet. Tyler is super malambing and playful, while Tiff is just so funny and bugay! Love these two balls of energy.

This baby supermodel is a walking doll! Celestia Mananquil Trillo, daughter of @rissamananquil and Paolo Trillo, feels like a baby straight out of a Baby Gap ad. Already a stunner, I'm sure Pao and Ris have to ward off the boys when this one grows up.

Lucas Cayetano, son of Ate @piacayetano, is a real charmer and maybe future politician! So personable, never shy, extremely hyper, this boy makes me so excited to see what he will be like all grown up! But not just yet, Lucas, stay a little boy first!

Another Lucas, Lucas Davila Sta. Ana, is the cutiepie son of @iamkarendavila and hubby DJ Sta. Ana. Always so malambing and even tags along with his mommy on work days, this super trooper is set to charm everyone with his ways in the coming years!

And yet again another Tyler, Tyler Martinez, yes little bro of Noelle, has got to be one of the most handsome boys in the country! Already a commercial model at his age, those eyes and that smile assure us we'll be seeing much more of him in the future.

Look at that darling! Lucho Santos Agoncillo, son of @officialjuday and @thatsmytatayryan can melt your heart with just one look. I swear I give an audible gasp everytime I see his face on my feed. With his parent's charm combined, Lucho is one little boy to watch.

Another living doll, Stephan Santos is the little brother of Viviana! My best friend Pepel told me he will tell Stephan when he grows older, "Son, Tita Bianca found you so cute that she asked if she can be your ninang too. I said yes!" Grabe sobrang cute!

Because I can't imagine myself with my old hair style (just long and straight), the team of Vidal Sassoon Philippines, my hairstylist (of 14 years!) Alex Carbonell, and I decided to collaborate to create possible "next" looks for me! The VS team decided to put the decision up to a vote between the textured bob and the disconnected bob.

Thank you to all my social media followers who took time to like and vote! The winner - by a landslide - was the textured bob!

It was a bright and early Saturday morning at Studio Fix in Century City Mall. As I walked to the salon I was both excited and anxious. Not so much scared because I knew how liberating it was to chop it all off last October, but anxious to see what the new style would look like.

Of course, the first step, shampoo! Vidal Sassoon shampoo, syempre.

I sat on the salon chair as Alex started to work his magic on my crowning glory!

He started cutting from the back, to get the length he wanted to achieve. The cut is asymmetric with it being shorter at the back and longer by the front.

He then started flicking his razor to cut the rest of the sections of my hair! Not scissors, just a razor! "Razor cut," Alex called it. It gives the textured look more lightness as compared to if it were cut by scissors.

Quite interesting that given my short hair, this much hair was still cut from it!

Once the cut was done, I had to document! This cut is without blowdrying, would you believe?! I was so happy because I instantly knew the cut was wash and wear, super low maintenance!

Then they started the coloring process. Alex is a master colorist too, and he describes my hair color to be "an alternate of caramel golds and khaki brown highlights on a light brown base, with khaki reflect."

After coloring and washing with VS shampoo and conditioner, it was blowdried and Alex made a few more snips here and there to finish the look.

After styling and curling the ends, tadaaaa! I just had to take a selfie with my dear Alex! Alex is the Creative Learning Director of Bench Fix Salon, literally the one who trained every single staff member nationwide! He also has his own chain of salons for the Bench group of companies, Studio Fix.

I loved how light the cut felt and how it framed my face. It isn't true that you can't have short hair when your face is round or your cheeks are big! For every face shape, there is a specific cut for you. In fact, the layers can even frame your face!

I'm so thrilled to see a lot of people asking me about the short course I took! It is awesome to know that so many people want to keep studying too!

My sister Aissa took my photo every morning before leaving for school! Day 1 (upper left) she says was full of anxiety and nervousness, while day 5 (lower right) was all happiness and confidence! Haha!

It has really been a dream of mine ever since I was in college to take my Masters. I started working while on my Junior year in college and before I knew it, its 10 years since I graduated college and I never got to pursue the further studies I always thought I'd end up doing! So when I finally had a two week break from work (my longest time off from work in over a decade!), I decided to take up short courses to at least give me the fulfillment of being a student again, never mind that I can't finish another degree yet.

Everything fell into place because I decided on visiting my sister Aissa who lives in London, and at the time of my scheduled visit, Central Saint Martins was offering many different short courses!

I decided to take something unrelated to my work, just so I can learn something new and something that will take me out of my comfort zone. I decided on Data Visualisation. It is a course on gathering numbers and data (FYI, I hate Math), organizing it, and making it relevant to your audience.

What is data visualisation? Here is an example: a visualisation of drone strikes in Pakistan.

My short course proved to be an AMAZING experience.

My instructors Angela Morelli and Tom Halsor are PURE BRILLIANCE. Angela is an engineer and Tom is a statistician, and both of them ended up in the business of making data visual. They empower journalists, marketers, social entrepreneurs, NGOs, changemakers, to get their message across with maximum impact. (You must watch Angela's TED talk on the Global Water Footprint!)

I had classmates from the UK, the US, Norway, Japan, Hong Kong, Italy, Argetina, and many other places!

I highly recommend taking any of the 5-day courses in CSM! The campus is amazing, the students are so diverse, the teachers are inspiring, I could go on and on!

WHEN GOD CLOSES A DOOR, HE OPENS THE AIRPORT

February this year, I lost a job. The morning show I worked at - UKG - reformatted, and I was no longer part of it. I went through an existential crisis. At 31 years of age, I had another "quarter life crisis". Questioning whether I am in the right line of work, what my purpose is in life, if this is the job I am really meant to do, and if I even have a place in it anymore. That self-doubt people go through when crisis strikes.

As the weeks passed, and after many talks with my family and friends and management, I was at peace with my situation. I accepted it, realized that this happens to everyone (no exceptions), and instead I looked forward to doing other things I've always wanted to do and pursue other dreams I've always wanted to pursue but had no time to.

1. I've always said that since I started working in 3rd year college, I have never had a vacation longer than 10 days.. but have always wanted to.

2. I've always dreamed of taking my Masters (In college I was convinced I would go to film school after graduation) but since I am blessed to have work I love doing already, I know that being away for 2 years isn't possible for now.. but I still have always wanted to.

3. I love traveling and really save up and set aside money for travel and take the chance to leave every time I have free time.

Putting all that together, I consulted my loved ones and I decided to:

1. Finally take that 2 1/2 week vacation I have been longing for. I decided to go to London because my sister lives there. Aside from it being an amazing city, going somewhere where you can stay with family is huge savings because you don't have to pay for lodging.

2. Finally "study abroad" by taking two short courses. It is by no means a real "degree" but if all I have is a few days of learning a different point of view and getting out of my comfort zone, then I will take it. I took up a 5 day course on Data Visualisation in Central Saint Martins and a 3 day course on Lifestyle Journalism in London School of Journalism.

3. Make the most out of my trip and take mini trips with my sister within my trip. We decided on Stratford Upon Avon just an hour away from London, and Edinburgh in Scotland, 4.5 hours away from London by train.

So I fixed all my documents, fixed all my work schedules that had to be moved and asked permission from work I would be leaving, and set my trip for March 20 til April 6. My longest vacation (well, half study trip, half leisure trip) ever.

Little did I know that before my 6AM flight on March 20, the biggest surprise of my life has been planned and was about to be revealed to me.

It was a jampacked 17 days. Within the 17 days, I attended 2 short courses, took 2 out of town trips, saw 2 concerts, 1 musical, and 1 improv night, had a fitting session for a bridal gown, went to every spot in London I wanted to see, had dinner out with friends more 10 times, and took 3 travel tumbling shots. It wasn't a "rest" trip at all! It was an action packed, trip full of new adventures with amazing new learnings I will bring with me for life. And at the end of it all, I had what would be the start of a beautiful future to be planned waiting for me.

Life is not just what happens to you, it is what you make of it.

So really. When God closes a door, He not only opens a window.. He opens the airport and the world to you. When a door closes, it is your choice whether to be defeated by it or to take charge of the situation and make it work for you.

And the most important lesson I've learned.. no matter how much you plan your life according to what you think will make you fulfilled and happy, God has plans for you that are far better than anything you can ever dream of.

There are so many family members, friends, and NAIA Terminal 2 staff I am so thankful to for coming together (at 4 in the morning!) and making the most magical day of my life possible. But most of all, I am thankful to my fiancé JC (aaaah, fiancé!!!!) for being so amazing. I thought I knew him well after 3 years of being together, but I guess this goes to show that he can and will be pulling surprises out of his sleeves for the rest of our lives. I am really the luckiest girl in the world.

I would like to share with you two very personal videos sent to me by our good friend Mikaela Martinez, who was right there beside me that morning.

I felt something was up, but I had NO idea what was in store for me. Until, this moment:

I saw behind me my closest friends and JC's closest friends, JC's family (and apparently my family being updated every second via a Whatsapp chatgroup) at 5 in the morning, all also with a rose each. I could not stop the tears streaming down my face.

JC and I are really both very private people and aside from the occasional Twitter or Instagram post about what we do or when we travel, we really don't share much about ourselves except to family and friends. Until now, I still really have no idea why JC chose to propose the way he did, but I don't really want to question it anymore because I just really feel lucky and blessed!!!!

What I can share and would like to share, that maybe other couples may be able to relate to, is a few things JC said when he was standing in front of me in the middle of the airport.

He said, "Last night, you asked me how much I love you and I just said a lot. But, this," he looks around, and says, "this is my answer."

He added, "I love that you aren't perfect, and I've come to love your imperfections."

This means the world to me. When we girls are single or in the start of a relationship, there is always this pressure to look somewhat perfect, to act somewhat perfect, to avoid mistakes, to avoid screwing up, to impress or keep the guy we like or the man we love. But we all know that we can't be perfect. And this man decided to love every imperfection of mine, and I really, really cannot be any luckier.

To be honest, until now I cannot stop staring at my ring and when I try to recall that morning, I really cannot believe that happened to me!!!! Thank you Lord for this wonderful man! I keep saying that I must have done something amazing in a past life for me to deserve this.

I've asked the question, "how do you know he is the one?" And I've heard the answer, "you just know it." To be honest, I didn't know it. JC and I have both been in relationships that we thought was for the long run but wasn't. But what I can share is, and this I realized from something my good friend Mariel mentioned to me, is that you know that person is the one when that person loves you the way you have always wanted to be loved.


This is a photo we took before my boarding call, that we sent to our private barkada chatgroup, and we had no idea our friend Cheska would post it online, so please do excuse me for that face. I was just so happy!!!!

I do wish I had put on lipstick, and I wonder about how agaw-eksena that backpack is, but how would I have known this would happen.. and at 5 in the morning!

One of the biggest names in the Philippine Fashion Design scene is also a major mogul with a number of businesses and collaborations to his name. He is one of the most generous souls, always ready to be fairy godmother to friends in need. He loves to travel the world and also loves to take foreigner friends (read: Sarah Jessica Parker included) around the country. Know Rajo more in 10 questions:

1. Do you remember every single dress or outfit you've made? Any one particular favorite?

I do have a vague recollection of each dress I have created although there will always be unforgettable ones. These are the wedding gowns of my sisters that are really close to my heart. What I remember clearly is what they looked like seconds before entering the church, that I will hold very close to my heart.

2. How many percent of a good design is product of formal school and training and how many percent of it is pure talent and creativity?

I believe that proper technical know how is extremely important in the execution of good design. Obviously talent is very important, but if there is no foundation on how the idea will be properly done then this will lead to failure. I always say that beautiful poetry can only be achieved only if one properly learns their ABC's.

3. Dream Hollywood client?

4. What one place do you love taking foreign visitors to here in Manila?

I would take them to a proper seafood "dampa" experience! There is nothing like an amazing Filipino meal that would make one trip extremely memorable.

5. One important business tip you would give a starting entrepreneur?

Know your numbers. Proper accounting practices will be the best foundation for your business to grow.

6. When your creative juices aren't flowing, what do you do to get them flowing?

I try to escape and feed my desire to wander. Escape can mean just taking a break from your daily routine or a weekend get away. This practice clears my mind and gets me creative.

7. What is the sweetest thing your boyfriend Nix has ever done for you?

Nix's gift to me is laughter. He really makes me laugh. Although I remember him renovating our apartment while I was on a trip and coming back to a brand new apartment was really a fantastic surprise.

8. Your favorite song to sing in karaoke?

Creep. I like the message of the song and I can really give my lungs a work out when I sing this song.

9. Would you consider having children in the future?

I am blessed with beautiful nephews and nieces and my desire to have children have been taken over by their presence and love.

10. Is there really any ultimate fashion no-no?

I really appreciate all kinds of fashion and I don't believe in rules. Fashion is a means of expression and for me this means that we should all enjoy it. The only thing that I would be cautious about is appropriateness and this is something that one should always consider and think about when dressing up.

HOW I CELEBRATED MY BIRTHDAY WITHOUT CELEBRATING

Time really friggin flies. In my head I'm still 25 years old then all of a sudden I wake up and I'm 31!

I am really not one for parties during my birthday. I always prefer just having quality time with my loved ones and enjoying a good meal (usually Japanese or Sonia's Garden, yes, every year!) and that's it. The only "party" I ever recall having was when I turned 1 and when I was 2nd grade, thrown by my parents. And when I was a PBB housemate, thrown by the staff. Other than that, I really prefer quiet birthdays.

This year was different because I may not have thrown any party, I had 6 intimate and meaningful mini celebrations thanks to special people who surprised me with the ultimate birthday symbol.. a cake!

First was a box of cupcakes surprise from my Earth Faces team, in Coron, Palawan, the weekend before my birthday. We were shooting part of our advocacy campaign with Facial Care Center and they were so sweet to make a way to suprise me, with matching Happy Birthday song by the Lobster King singer of the night! (And a song while we were swimming in the Twin Lagoon earlier that day, so cinematic I wish I had a video of it!) Thank you Anna, NJ, Niccolo, Anton, Dwight, and Kaye.

On the stroke of midnight on the anniversary of my birth, March 11, I was surprised to wake up to the sound of my boyfriend JC singing me a happy bithday with matching cake and candle! With hair standing and probably muta in my eyes, I made a wish! He knows I am not one for big celebrations so this thoughtful surprise really meant so much.

On the morning of March 12, we had an editorial line up meeting for meg magazine, and after the "work" part was done, they surprised me with not just one, but two cakes!!!! Thank you to my girls Ning, Rain, Portia, Guia, Bea, Tin, and Ionne for the thoughtfulness. (They also gave me coloring books and crayons as a gift! I love it!)

On the afternoon of the 12th, I met up with a group of girlfriends for a crafternoon! It is basically an afternoon of DIY fun where we learned rubber stamping and basic calligraphy from Alessandra Lanot. In the middle of our class, I was surprised with the famous Choco Yema cake of Slice! Thank you Slice, and thanks to my friends Rina, Trisia, Trina, Marion, and Alessa!

On the evening of the 13th, I had taping for my show Cinemanews, and there, I was pleasantly surprised by not just the staff of the show (thank you Ate Kitty for arranging everything, and to my bosses Sir Ronald and Sir Amboy for the love and support), but my beloved Biancsters. Thank you Kate, Monica, Karen, Ate Juliet, Mabel, Eliza, Cay, Christine, Caroline, and Calc (who was there in spirit!)

On the afternoon of the 14th, I had my annual celebration with school kids in Taguig, and this time, Mayor Lani, the principal Ma'am Tess, and all the teachers and students of the 6th grade of Taguig Elementary School sang me a birthday song and gave me a cake! I really tried my best to hold back the tears kasi ang pangit naman kung ang drama ko. But it DID make me very emotional! Thank you Ate Lani for all the love, always.

So for a girl who doesn't really celebrate, 6 mini celebrations were really so much more than I could ask for. The funny thing though? Every single time I closed my eyes to make a wish before blowing the candle, I had only one wish in mind. And that wish, I would like to keep for myself. Haha.

I admit I had the birthday blues. Questions on if I really am where I'm supposed to be at this point in my life, where am I headed, what should I do.. but I've accepted that as all part of growing up. I may have many worries, but I still am overwhelmed by and thankful for all the blessings and it feels selfish to even ask God for anything more.

To celebrate women's month (and her upcoming birthday on the 22nd!), I would like to put the spotlight on a woman I consider to be one of my personal heroes. There literally is nothing she cannot do, and she inspires me (and so many others) that we can do whatever it is we put our heart to, too. Imagine, she answered these questions before and after running her first ultra marathon. Learn more about this modern day superwoman in 10 questions.

1. Why decide to train for triathlons at age 40? Were you ever scared it was "too late"?

It never occurred to me that I was too old cause I was a very fit runner when I started, plus it was always my dream! My brother Lino got me into biking the year before I became a senator. So I did duathlons for a few years, then I started swimming and eventually joined triathlons. Funny but in my first sprint Tri, all the other girls were like 16 years old! Then of course I felt old and slow cause they were all good swimmers. But I'm a strong biker and runner so I still felt confident. Today, I still love it.

2. What is the best thing about being in your 40s, that you didn't have in your 30s or 20s?

More confidence. I consider myself a shy person, or at least I feel that I was a shy person. I worry less now about what people think. I trust my instincts more. I trust my experience and my values and am able to make decisions that may seem unpopular or out of the ordinary but have the confidence to do it.

Haha! Yes! But I have mastered the art of self-restrain and patient. So I take a few deep breaths then tweet something more professional.

4. You are very tough but you also have a kikay side! What is the most kikay thing about you?

Hmmm, I like pink lipstick and nail polish.

5. Who are the closest to you in the Senate, and what is the one adjective you'd use to describe them?

I'm close to many of my colleagues but I've singled out a few and have one word describing them in a way that many may not know. Alan (Cayetano) is funny! Miriam (Santiago) is the adviser (my love life adviser).

6. What is one thing you've learned from your kids Maxine, Nadine, and Lucas?

Max and Nadine are both in their teens. Max has this kind of grace under pressure that I absolutely envy. With Nadine, I look at her and see a wonderful balance of toughness and sweetness rolled into one. My little Lucas who is only 3, I look at him and he reminds me of a most basic fact - boys are not like girls!

7. Why is women's month so important and what did you do this year to celebrate it?

It is so important to celebrate women's month in order to raise awareness about the discriminatory practices that still exist. Even women are unaware of this and there is much work that needs to be done to make this a more gender sensitive country with equal opportunities for women. This year, I went to Cebu and joined the All Women Ultra Marathon. Being with these women who were doing a 50km run, many of them working moms like me, was just so amazing. I planned to do just half but ended up finishing the race, and doing my first ultra-marathon.

8. One thing you still want to achieve?

Believe it or not, I never had specific goals in life. I simply believe in exploring opportunities that come your way and giving it your best. What is still out there? The opportunity each day to make this a better world, to be a good mom to my kids and to make a difference.

9. How did you deal with the biggest heartbreak of your life?

Prayer and surrounding myself with people who love me and understand my pain, allow me to sulk a bit and be sad, but pick me up by makings laugh and distracting me.

10. Your absolute favorite cheap thrill?

Taho and puto! Spotting the Taho vendor or the puto vendor on the road when Ice been biking for long hours under the sun!

5 VERY SIMPLE WAYS TO BE MORE PRODUCTIVE

I was quite the nerd when I was in school, and to this day, I have my nerdy tendencies intact. Here are a few tricks I've learned along the way:

1. List down everything you have to do at the start of the day.

Reading an actual list and seeing the items checked off one by one will help you feel productive, and give you that push to get every single thing on it done.

My suggestion: Arrange your to do list either by order of importance (more difficult things first and easier tasks last) or in chronological order (with the time of when you have to do what right beside it).

2. Have whatever you need with you, near you.

We all have our "tools" to being productive. From coffee, snacks, and a glass of water, to a calculator, dictionary, and a pen. A lot of time is wasted when you keep needing to stand up to look for something.

My suggestion: Before you sit down on your workspace, put everything you think you may need or want beside you already.

3. Be a light, happy workmate.

A happy workplace is a productive work place. Who likes working with a bossy, snotty, whiny negatron?

My suggestion: When work gets tough, enjoy a good ranting session then a good laughing session with your workmates. Get through things together, and look back at it with fondness after.

4. Workout in the morning.

Do you know that burst of energy you feel after a good run or after a challenging workout? Aside from the "happy hormones", getting your blood pumping at the start of the day can definitely help you eliminate laziness.

My suggestion: Wake up an hour before the actual time that you have to be out of the house to head to work. Use that time to sweat it out! Remember, a 15 minute workout is better than nothing at all.

5. Stop checking Twitter every 5 minutes, seriously.

Distractions are everywhere and undoubtedly, social media is the number one enemy when it comes to trying to focus. Yes, you may miss being the first to find out about that super star studded Oscar selfie, but reacting to it one hour later isn't such a big deal when you got what you were supposed to do, done.

My suggestion: Set a specific "break time" for yourself and checking your Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts will be your "reward".

1. What age did you realize or acknowledge that you were a "famous" baby?

I had a feeling already at a young age because everyone would be talking about my mom. There was also one instance she took me to the supermarket and it became an instant mall show.

2. What is your earliest memory of a girl at school making pa cute to you? How did you feel?

I can't remember the first time a girl made pa cute to me, but let's just say I had my first girlfriend when I was 7 years old. We lasted for more than a year if remember correctly.

3. Have you ever wanted to punch someone in the face?

Hmmm.. once in a while a basher or hater comes along and I want to pour every bit of my being into a punch or kick. It may happen. :)

4. Have you ever gotten an indecent proposal?

So far, no indecent proposals involving cash or favors. However, someone has asked for some "action" as a birthday gift. Hehehe.

5. When the time comes that you will propose to the woman you want to be with, are you the type to arrange a full production proposal, or something more quiet and intimate?

I honestly don't know but I will make sure she will cherish that moment forever.

6. What is one naughty fantasy that you have, whether it may or may not come true in your lifetime?

It's not the right time nor place to discuss my fantasies.

7. You love watches. What is one watch model you dream of owning someday?

Patek Philippe 5970P. It's my grail watch. If I get to buy one, I'd be perfectly happy ending my watch journey.

8. When people bash or troll you on social media, do you care? Do you block people?

Yup, block, delete, give them a dose of their own medicine. Or I just let them be, depending on my mood. I just try to understand that they weren't hugged enough as children.

9. What was the most stupid thing you did for love?

It wasn't even for love, but for attraction. I gave up my dream to be a doctor and followed a girl to HRIM.

10. You are a self-confessed "mama's boy". What is the most meaningful compliment or advice your mom ever gave you?

When she says she is proud of me. She never really gave me advice but instead, she showed me by example, the way she deals with people from all walks of life exactly the same way.

WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO WIN A DRIVER OF THE YEAR AWARD!

I'd say I'm a very chill and steady person. But for some reason, when there is some sort of challenge or competition involved, this heated competitive spirit comes out of me like from nowhere!

I recently had the honor of being chosen as the ambassador for Shell in the Philippines. When I got the news, I could hardly believe it! A huge brand I use and trust, trusted me to endorse their brand.. I am humbled and proud at the same time.

So part of my "duties" as ambassador for Shell was to do the Shell FuelSave Celebrity Driving Challenge. For the first part of the challenge, I drove from the Shell Refinery in Tabangao, Batangas, passed by a Shell station along SLEX, met some of the brilliant student teams from DLSU, UST, and Mapua to learn all about the prototype cars they made for the Shell Eco-Marathon, and we ended the day in Intramuros for a closing program with all the teams and with the Shell executives.

I am no car fanatic, nor am I a science whiz who knows the technology behind creating fuel. I am just like any other ordinary driver on the roads of Metro Manila who wants to make sulit every bit of gas I load in my car. I did wonder why Shell chose me, and apparently, it was precisely because of this. They want people to know that all of us, regardless of background, with the right choice of fuel and tiny changes in our driving habits, can get the most distance out of our fuel.

A few easy tips I learned?

1. Keep a cool head: It is so easy to get hot headed when stuck in traffic. The more you jam on the gas pedal and the brake pedal, the more fuel your car consumes. So steady lang.

2. Lighten your load: The more stuff you have in the car, the heavier it is, the more gas you consume.

3. Check your tire pressure: The wrong tire pressure (too little or too much) can greatly affect how much fuel you consume! No harm in putting (the right) air in your tires every time you gas up.

Proof that these simple tips work? From a full tank, all the way from Batangas to Manila (with traffic pa yun ha!) I only consumed less than 1/4 of a tank of a Ford Fiesta. Not bad at all right?

Then came the day of the main event. On the 100th year of Shell in the Philippines, for the first time ever, Manila hosted this huge international event, the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2014. Over 100 student teams from over 15 countries came together to present their prototype cars. The Philippines had 15 amazing teams in the competition, and at the end of the day, they made our country proud!

I am so proud to share that DLSU Eco-Car Team Electric took home Second Prize in the Urban Concept - Battery Electric Category! Congratulations!!!! Aside from that, the DLSU team also got the Team Spirit award. Know what they did? The prototype car from the India team wasn't able to get their car to Manila, so the DLSU team lent them a past SEMA car for India to modify so that they can still enter the competition. Filipino hospitality at its finest!

So aside from the student teams, there was the main event for the Celebrity Driving Challenge. It is a super surreal experience driving a prototype car of the future, so allow me to share a blow by blow account of my briefing:

So first, you get into your race suit and put on ballet-flats-type shoes.

Then the gloves come on. (Yes, that red car is what I need to drive. Crazy right?!)

Slide your feet in, put on your helmet, and put on those intimidating 5-strap seat belts.

Lie down, (yes, you drive lying down!! Gaah!!) and steer and drive using your hands. See that silver bar below the seatbelt? Left top handle is gas, right top handle is the front brakes, left bottom handle is back brakes, right button is the horn, left button is to kill the engine, and to start the engine is a key on the right side. The steering bar is ultra sensitive so the slightest movement will make the car turn!

Last minute briefing by the Shell Team and me putting my thumbs up for the photo as if I was calm but in reality I was so, so, so nervous!

They put the top of the car on and voila! I was the first to try the track and it was a crazy insane experience! They gave us one test round first. Being the speed devil that I am, I totally floored the accelerator! When else will I get to drive something like this right?! I just had to do it. I studied my turns, studied how hard a press I will need to get 100 metres or so, then came back into the pit. After they checked my fuel and if everything was okay, the pit crew told me, "You were going too fast!" Whoops. To be fuel efficient, we had to go around 30. I was told I went 46!

I was ready with my real round. We did two laps for the competition proper and as soon as I was done, I wanted to drive it around more! Hahaha! Truly a once in a lifetime experience. How did it feel? Well it was extremely hot, the whole car was vibrating, it is kind of awkward driving lying down with your neck just wedged up, but I loved it!

I wasn't the only one who had to drive this. We took turns, and I was first. Meet my fellow Shell ambassadors for Asia, and those I competed against in the Driving Challenge!

They were all super cool with the most endearing personalities and I wish we could've had more than a day to spend together!

We all took our turns, did press interviews, took a breather, then gathered around together for the awarding ceremony. Mr. Asada Harinsuit, Vice President for Shell Retail, made the announcement.. and with such tension! He announced the results in reverse order, starting from fourth place. To be honest, I really was not expecting anything, I just knew in my heart I really, really did my best!

Finally, he said, "And the Celebrity Driver of the Year is, Bianca!" Waaaaaaaah!!!! The whole table from the Philippines jumped up in (shock!?) joy and we were all just so unexpectedly happy!!!!

The official press release said:

"Gonzalez beat the competition by driving an astounding distance of 67.61 kilometers on just one liter of Shell FuelSave fuel."

WOOHOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Akalain mo ba naman?!

I have never competed in anything that I had me wearing a flag of the Philippines on my uniform, nor have I ever had to "represent" the Philippines in any way, shape, or form. It was really just a great experience and "winning" the competition was an amazing bonus! Thank you to everyone who wished me luck and to those who congratulated me in person and on social media. It means a lot and I truly appreciate it!

Absolutely loved my first time in Bali, Indonesia! Beach-wise, I still say Boracay is the most beautiful, but in terms of hip and trendy hangouts and restaurants, Bali has so much to offer!

Sharing with you ten places JC and I loved eating, drinking, and hanging out at.

1. POTATO HEAD

Usually the hottest spot to spend sunset sessions, the Potato Head Beach Club is the best place to hang by the pool all day. The beds by the pool are hard to come by (line is long!) but the couches and tables enjoy a good view too. They have many cool craft cocktails you can try, and a pretty good steak, pasta, sandwich, small plates menu. We decided to go at 11AM as soon as it opened, and we got the best day bed right by the pool.

2. WAHWAH BURGER

I am not much of a burger person but this burger is INSANELY good! We ordered "The Works" and this one with the foie gras and both were just awesome. You cannot miss this Seminyak favorite /when you go to Bali.

3. ALILA VILLAS

If you ever find yourself visiting the temples and beaches at Uluwatu, on your way home, spend your sunset at the Luxe Alila Villas. Have a drink and a snack, enjoy the view, enjoy being in the company of your loved one.

4. JIMBARAN

Imagine our local dampa (point at any fresh seafood you want and let them know how you want it cooked) but with the view and the sound of the sea and the sand in your feet. Another must when in Bali. Cafe Menega is the most popular place, but you can try the other stalls as well. We suggest you go at night when its much cooler and the view much nicer!

5. IBU OKA

Made famous by Anthony Bourdain (I love him and always look up where it is he ate whenever I travel) Ibu Oka is most known for their babi guling, or suckling pig. Its almost always full so if you are going for lunch, its best to go for late lunch. I would say I still love Cebu lechon more, but if you find yourself in Ubud, you should still definitely try their flavorful take on the pig.

6. RICE TERRACES

(Disclaimer: I've never been to the Banaue Rice Terraces and I can imagine that is much more beautiful, but this view was quite breathtaking as well.) A 30-minute drive away from Ubud is this beautiful view. There are rows and rows of cliff side restaurants that you can eat and drink and hang out at so just take your pick. Enjoy the fresh air and the moment.

7. NAUGHTY NURI'S

People flock here for their grilled ribs. Cooked right in front of the restaurant, despite the full house, the orders come pretty quickly! No need for sauce, no need for rice, enjoy the saucy ribs with your favorite drink.

8. LACA LACA

If you love Mexican food, you should definitely pay this place a visit. We met an Australian couple in Uluwatu who used to live in Seminyak, and when we asked them what the one must-eat restaurant is, they answered this place. Did not disappoint at all! So good!

9. MAMASAN

Best meal of the trip! A little pricier than the other more laid back restaurants, but when converted into pesos, is still not too expensive! If you stay in Seminyak and love Asian food, you must pay this place a visit. We ordered the Braised Beef with Roti Canai (sorry, no photo) but man, the taste just bursts in your mouth.

10. KU DE TA

An institution in Seminyak, Ku De Ta is also a sunset time favorite, but when we heard that brunch is also great here, we decided to go in the morning instead. Great to lounge, tan, order drinks, read a book, and spend the whole day under the sun!

There were many other restaurants I was told we have to try - Metis, Bebek Bengil, Warisan, Sardine, Warung Made - but didn't have enough time to, so I guess that means we have to come back some other time!

REMEMBER #YSPEAK?

I became emotional when I heard that Studio 23 was going off the air. It was home to three major shows that I did: first was alternative morning show Breakfast, next was Blog, my first solo show that really gave me a big break as an entertainment host, and of course, the show I still hold so close to my heart, YSpeak.

I was insanely lucky. I was a senior in college, I was modeling, doing hosting gigs on the side, and was working in production in ABS-CBN, when I was told that they were looking for a young female host to join THE Karen Davila and THE Ryan Agoncillo for a youth-oriented debate show. Can you imagine how lucky I was that my first major TV hosting job placed me stand alongside these two industry greats?? I never really found out if there was anyone else in the running for the show (haha!), but when the brainchilds of the YSpeak, Fr. Tito Caluag and producer Noel Ferrer asked me if I wanted to do it, I immediately said YES.

And that was the start of a journey in life I never thought I'd take, but now hold dear to my heart as a personal advocacy.

We were at a 1AM then 4PM weekend timeslot on ABS-CBN for a few months, when the bosses decided to move us to Studio 23. When we moved, Ryan and I became the main hosts of the show, as we welcomed in a new batch of co-hosts to join our cause. When Ryan moved to GMA, it was me left to hold the fort, and it was just a complete honor to do so. The show evolved from a debate program to a weekly documentary, and eventually the show ended in 2010.

We did all topics from politics to sex, showbiz to friendships. It was amazing.

The show became an amazing opportunity for me to meet countless people from all industries and walks of life. It opened my eyes to so many issues and helped me come out of my shell and be confident in voicing out my own opinion. It became a platform for me and our team to win many awards, including my first ever Best Host award, and I am forever grateful.

all the other award giving bodies that recognized our work!

I got to hone my hosting skills by being given one tough (and intimidating!!!!) assignment after another. Bawal yung wala kang sasabihin o wala kang opinyon! Bawal to show that you are scared if you are faced with a big time personality! Bawal to not research because if you don't know your stuff, you'll end up humiliating yourself! It was the best training any host could ask for.

I got to interview many politicians, youth leaders, advocates,
and one of our biggest series was the 2010 Presidential Elections
where I got to do a one-on-one with the Presidential and
Senatorial candidates, including then-Presidential Gibo Teodoro.

I also got to tackle many sensitive topics and do exclusives and exposes,
like this episode we had where I interviewed a sex worker.

I will FOREVER be grateful for having been blessed with a show like YSpeak. It was truly a dream program to do. I have our amazing, passionate and hardworking staff to thank for this, our other producers and headwriters who also became my good friends like Mori Rodriguez, Karen Almeida, Mark Salamat, Xavier Gravides, Mae Manalac, all our writers, SPs, and researchers, our OJTs, our correspondents, for being part of the show's success.

Thank you also Jen, MA, Apol, LA, Tiya Pilits, Rona, lahat kayo!

And of course I am also extremely thankful to all the boys who lent their time and heart to YSpeak as well.

So much of what I know, how to phrase thoughts, how to handle live shows and the blunders that come with it, how to listen, I learned from him. I had the privilege of working with him in four shows: Review Night on Cinema One, Breakfast, YSpeak, and Magandang Umaga Pilipinas. I am still hoping that the day comes that I will get a show with him again. Idol kita forever, Ry!

And the biggest thank you of all goes to every single person who watched YSpeak, and with us, believed in the power and voice of the youth. Even though its been years since the show went off air, it fills my heart with JOY to have people come up to me until now to say "I loved YSpeak!" or "That was a great show! Bakit wala nang ganun ngayon?" Every time I see our generation voice out their opinion, fight for a cause, or stand up to what they believe to be wrong, it makes me feel that we in YSpeak did something right. This show really changed my life.

Sorry for the long, senti post, I just realized that the show never got to say goodbye properly, so I'd like to do that now. Thank you for reading!

WHY JC AND I DECIDED TO GET INTERVIEWED TOGETHER

It may not seem like it but I am very shy. As a person. Meaning when I am not in work mode. And JC is also very shy. So although we are extremely flattered to be invited to guest in certain shows for interviews, we always respectfully decline because aside from being shy, we just really prefer to keep our personal lives private. Unti JC got a message from Mico Halili asking if we could guest together on the season ender of their podcast, The Bro Show.

Why The Bro Show? I guess it was a big factor that the show was not too showbiz, it was from a basketball bro point of view, and was really mostly light and fun. JC is more private compared to me (by virtue of my job), so he was more comfortable in this kind of show. I am also admittedly a fan of the Mico Halili and Jason Webb tandem when I watch games (Pag sila commentators, laugh trip pero may substance! Makes it easy for people like me to understand the game better.) Plus throw in Coach Richard, and its a super riot trio.

We were very nervous before the show started, but just kept laughing as soon as it did! Naluha ako sa kakatawa I swear. Thank you, bros for the hilarious interview!
