our important pastoral survey)

As time progresses the Word of God promises man will wax worse and worse, “ and the perilous times will come.” We are now in such a day and dealing with such men. A double curse is that such wicked men are our countrymen and elected leaders. President Obama has sought to put a yoke upon us that is beyond burdensome. “Obamacare” wrangles souls and, more to the point, churches into a corral of unrighteousness and a bond without liberty. As Americans we can and must rally against this agenda that, once passed will undermine religious liberty. As Christians, we must seek a way out and pray for deliverance from the Golden Image always. As Baptists, “suffering for well doing is acceptable with God.” and our principle has always been to, with great magnanimity of Spirit and respect for all authority, dissent nonetheless. Might we as Independent, Fundamental, Baptists discuss together the ramifications of Obamacare, and seek options? This is the great hope of this invitation….to join minds to confront this dilemma.

Such a meeting is meant to accomplish several goals:

To understand Obamacare and its ramifications for churches.

To explore options of response.

To hopefully find a course of action we might stand together in.

To provide direction for others in this regard.

Such a meeting is not meant to:

Create a false unity.

Overthrow authority.

Usurp independence from Pastors, Churches or Ministries.

We will host a meeting specifically tailored to meet these goals and will provide discussion starters in order to help you and your ministry as well as IFB brethren.

Please consider attending and/or representation at this important and historic meeting here at Immanuel Baptist Church, hosted by the Bible Nation Society on Tuesday, June 4, 2013….A Day of Religious Liberty.

Let us stand on the mountain together or will certainly end up in a foxhole together.

Yours Always for His Service,

Dr. Douglas F. Levesque
Pastor, Immanuel Baptist Church
President, The Bible Nation Society

By Dr. Douglas F. Levesque, Founder of the Levesque Institute

The American citizenry is being battered from multiple attacks and from multiple directions. It is overwhelming. The rapid fire onslaught of domestic and foreign crises seems to be pressing our national capacities and resolve. Our country’s lungs are burning from exertions and it’s muscles are aching from last efforts. Our existence is in the balance. Citizens are frozen with inability and fear. Some are blind with apathy and indulgence. The gates are being overrun by the barbarians of globalism and self interest. The national gatekeepers of every branch of government have and continue to fail us. Is there a hope of renewal and national survival?

The answer is an astounding “YES!”. Bible advocates, though much maligned are and will continue to be the reason for such optimism. While most Americans ‘twitter’ away their thoughts on who is ‘dancing with the stars’, or ‘facebook’ their picks for Sunday’s ‘NFL’ match ups, a real chasm of destruction widens. This week alone, congress will vote to control Americans, cradle to grave, with “healthcare reform.” Afghanistan “flare ups” threaten to critically “break” our military. The dollar is dying, the deficit is raging, and the banks continue to go unaccountable for any of it. The Supreme Court takes on the gun rights issue yet again. The Federal government is consolidating power, loosening immigration policy, and supporting homosexual rights. These domestic issues pale in comparison to the increasing threat of nuclear proliferation and foreign conflicts.

World War Three is having it’s opening salvos as we pen these words as North and South Korea, China and Taiwan, India and Pakistan all “test” fire missiles on a daily basis. Of course, the rhetoric and scope of calamity between Israel and Iran is truly apocalyptic. Certain media figures cast blame and expose error, but where is the fix? What are the answers? Can anything be done? Does Obama hold our salvation is his hands?

The Scriptures reveal the source of our hope. “When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.” -Isaiah 59:19. It is now His battle and in His hands. Our rest is in the calm assurance that God is right, fights for the right and therefore that the right prevails . . . always! It then behooves us to be right and do right. The analogy is this, we put up our resistance, we stand up for the right. When the gates are overrun, and the enemies are on top of us . . . listen for the trumpet of the cavalry. Yes, God uses human instruments, but sometimes He Himself does a divine coup d’ tat for His own people, His own will, and in accordance with His own Word. Let us stand, let us fight, but above all, let us be right! Claim Isaiah 59:19, and be willing to be His standard.

July 19, 2012

Archived column:

http://chuckbaldwinlive.com/home/archives/4985

What in the world has happened to America? How has it come to this?
The America that we currently see is unrecognizable from the America
many of us grew up in. The America that many oppressed people risked
their lives to escape to now more resembles the oppressed nations that
those people fled. (I’ve had scores of immigrants tell me that
personally.) And make no mistake about it, the problem is much deeper
than the shallow partisan mantra, “It’s the Democrats’ (or
Republicans’) fault.” The root cause of America’s woes is much
deeper than that. For decades, we’ve been trading Democrats for
Republicans, Republicans for Democrats, liberals for conservatives,
and conservatives for liberals, and nothing has changed–except the
problems keep getting worse!

To the heathen king, Abimelech, in Genesis chapter twenty, Abraham
said, “Surely, the fear of God is not in this place.” Two thousand
years later, in Romans chapter three, the Apostle Paul said, “There
is no fear of God before their eyes.” I’m inclined to believe that
this may be at the root of most of America’s problems. And for the
non-religious reader, please don’t stop reading now. Hear me out.

For one thing, a person does not have to be a Christian to possess
the fear of God. I’ve met many unbelievers who possess a firm and
unmistakable fear of God. Furthermore, from what I’ve seen among
professing Christians, most of them do NOT possess the fear of
God–their Christian profession notwithstanding!

At the risk of sounding “carnal,” I am literally sick to my
stomach with all this talk about electing “Christians” to public
office! A thorough examination of the Scriptures teaches us that the
Bible itself does not promote the concept of choosing “Christians”
to be civil magistrates. A political candidate’s Christian
profession or church affiliation means absolutely nothing to his or
her fitness for public office. You heard me: NOTHING!

When John F. Kennedy was running for office, I remember all the
excitement among Catholics to go out and elect a Catholic president.
When Jimmy Carter was running for office, I remember all the
excitement among Baptists to go out and elect a Baptist president.
When G.W. Bush was running for office, I remember all the excitement
among “born-again” Christians to go out and elect a
“born-again” president. This year, Mormons are all excited that
they can go out and elect a Mormon president. It’s all hooey!
Whether our civil magistrates at the federal level are Democrat or
Republican, Catholic or Baptist or “born-again” Christian or
Mormon, our country continues to spiral into oppression and despotism.
Instead of getting all wrapped up in a candidate’s religious
profession or affiliation, we should heed the counsel of Holy Writ.

Here is the Biblical requirement for civil magistrates: “Moreover
thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God,
men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be
rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and
rulers of tens.” (Exodus 18:21 KJV)

See it again: “The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to
me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of
God.” (II Samuel 23:3 KJV)

What difference does it make if one is a Democrat or Republican, if
he or she doesn’t have the fear of God in his or her heart? What
difference does it make if one is a Catholic or Baptist or
“born-again” Christian or Mormon, if he or she does not have the
fear of God is his or her heart? What difference does it make if they
are “conservative” or “liberal,” if they are not men and women
of truth, men and women who hate covetousness, and men and women who
are just?

No two men were more different than George Washington and Thomas
Jefferson. They were opposites in just about every measure of
determination. But without a doubt, these two men were two of the most
valuable and influential men at the time of America’s founding. It
is safe to say that without these two men, the United States of
America would not even exist. Though they differed in religious
persuasion, background, education, etc., they both expressed the same
sentiment in regard to the discussion at hand.

George Washington said, “The propitious smiles of Heaven can never
be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and
right which Heaven itself has ordained.”

Thomas Jefferson said, “And can the liberties of a nation be
thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a
conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the
gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with his wrath?
Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that
his justice cannot sleep forever.”

Christians or unbelievers, churchgoers or non-churchgoers,
Federalists or Democrat-Republicans, northerners or southerners, to a
man, America’s founders were men that feared God. That doesn’t
mean they were without sin. It doesn’t mean that they possessed some
sort of super-spirituality. But universally, the founding generation
(and many generations afterward) possessed an innate fear of God.

Almost to a man, the founders emphasized that morality was the
underpinning of liberty and freedom. And what is morality if it is not
the governance of the way people treat one another? Furthermore,
morality is something that must come from within; it cannot be coerced
or forced externally. And, pray tell, where does morality come from if
one has not the fear of God in his or her heart? And, again, this has
nothing to do with one’s religious profession or affiliation–or
lack thereof!

The fear of God is part of the Natural Law of God written in men’s
hearts. The problem is that far too many people’s hearts have grown
callused and hard to the “inner voice” of moral consciousness. How
else can one explain the conduct of so many people?

The natural fear of God is a predicate for a person’s respect for
their mother and father. (Leviticus 19:3) The fear of God is a
predicate for a person’s respect for others, especially those who
are disadvantaged. (Leviticus 19:14) This passage specifically notes
the deaf and the blind.

So, how can TSA agents at the Louisville, Kentucky, airport possess
the fear of God when they mockingly laugh at deaf people who were
leaving the annual conference for the National Association of the Deaf
in that city, calling them “F*%# Deafies”?

See the story at:

http://reason.com/blog/2012/07/10/tsa-agents-at-louisville-airport-steal-d

The fear of God is a predicate for people’s respect for the
elderly. (Leviticus 19:32) The fear of God is a predicate for a
political leader’s respect for liberty and refusal to engage in or
allow oppression. (Leviticus 25:17) The fear of God is a predicate for
honest financial and business practices. (Leviticus 25:36) And the
fear of God is a predicate for a leader of any kind to not be
tyrannical and heavy handed. (Leviticus 25:43)

And, as we are approaching the anniversary of the federal fiasco that
took place near Ruby Ridge, Idaho, I am reminded again of how the lack
of the fear of God is demonstrated in the way that our political
leaders conduct themselves. How could federal agents possess the fear
of God when they shot a fourteen-year-old boy in the back, and when
one of them took aim through a high powered scoped rifle and shot the
brains out of a young mother who was innocently standing in the
doorway of her own home holding her infant child in her arms?
Furthermore, how could federal agents possess the fear of God when
they machine-gunned mostly elderly men, women, and children as they
fled the burning buildings at Mt. Carmel outside Waco, Texas?

In addition, how can politicians in Washington, D.C., possess the
fear of God when they routinely lie, steal, violate their oaths to the
Constitution, and wreak havoc upon the liberties and freedoms of the
American people? How can the banksters at the Federal Reserve possess
the fear of God when they deliberately rape the US economy and
purposefully manipulate the markets so as to destroy the financial
well being of tens of millions of families? How can federal government
officials at the highest levels possess the fear of God when they
engage in international drug running and murder?

For that matter, how can professing Christians possess the fear of
God when they engage in deliberate character assassination and
slander? How can they possess the fear of God when they steal the
honor and reputations of their own brothers and sisters? How can they
possess the fear of God when they demonstrate selfishness, greed, and
hypocrisy? How can they possess the fear of God when Christian school
administrators lord over their staff and students as oppressively as
any tyrant? How can pastors possess the fear of God when they
willingly allow themselves to become the sheepish slaves of the state
by avoiding–or even deliberately altering–the sacred principles of
liberty set forth in the Holy Scriptures?

National policies and practices are totally dependent upon the
personal fear of God by those who enact these policies and practices.
No wonder the Scriptures admonish people to select civil magistrates
who fear God. Forget his or her church affiliation! Forget his or her
“Christian” profession! Are they people of their word? Do they
hate covetousness? Are they people of truth? Are they men and women of
character and integrity? Do they fear God?

America is not falling because of its politics. It is not falling
because of its financial foibles. It is not falling because of its
religious preferences. It is falling because “the fear of God is not
in this place.”

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 25, 2011, — While free speech is being debated near Detroit over whether Reverend Terry Jones, the Koran burner, has the right to protest outside America’s largest mosque, Congress readies to debate debt ceilings and budget cuts. Both debates are important to the country’s future. They both have an existential tone to the rhetoric. Passionate voices attempt to convince each other of the righteousness of their respective causes. There is yet another cause. Interconnected, perhaps more than we realize, is the steady cadence of another familiar voice offering a tried and true channel of safe passage through the country’s woes. It is from a guidebook of nations, one that has already seen the United States of America through every single crises of its existence. In every war, every civil disturbance, every fiscal emergency, the King James Bible has been “the rock upon which our republic rests.”

Since before Lexington Green through the current enduring of extreme spring weather events, the King James Bible has been and continues to be the reassuring prose of our national psyche. Of all philosophies, it has been the scaffolding upon which all other ideas must build upon, and has been the most fortuitous in constantly “delivering us from evil.” While the Koran demands submission, and Congress pleads for patience and expediency, it is the voice of the King James Bible upon its quadricentennial that reminds us of liberty.

A National Expo will be held celebrating the 400th birthday of the KJV just as Congress steps back into business. On May 2-3rd on the national mall just outside of the Capitol building, the Expo tent will display a 1st edition 1611 King James Bible along with other Bibles representing the history of its publication. A working replica of a Gutenberg press will be printing copies of Exodus 20 (the ten commandments) from plates of the old 1611. The printing and distribution of this chiefest book in all the English speaking world will enter it’s 400th year with a number of celebratory events around Washington D.C.

On Monday, May 2nd, at George Washington University, a series of five lectures will be held from 11am to 4pm. This is free to the public. Then at 7pm a fine arts drama and musical presentation will be performed highlighting the making of and American influence of the KJV. On Tuesday, May 3rd, a rally will be held at 5pm communicating the incredible past impact and commending a future influence of the KJV upon our nation. A Congressional resolution, H.R. Conc. 38 will be read and multiple presentations made. More information concerning the event and resolution can be found at www.KingJames400.com.

The Society and culture that the King James Bible has fostered is much different than the one the Koran has fostered. Congress debates endlessly while the executive branch is accused of offering confusion as a course of action. Maybe America needs to pause and remember from ‘whence’ she came. Perhaps this anniversary is a Godsend, and the existential debates of personal freedom and national prosperity are right before us.

Washington, D.C., April 19, 2011 — The ‘Old King James’ is turning 400 years old in May of this year. This popular translation of the Bible has endured for centuries now and is still gaining strength. A national expo will be held in the Nation’s Capitol on May 2-3, 2011 to honor the influential book that some believe to be the Word of God to the English speaking world. A concurrent resolution has been entered into the House of Representatives by the bipartisan team of Republican Representative Aderholt, from Alabama, and Democrat Representative Rahall, from West Virginia.

“The King James Bible deserves to be recognized for its contribution to American society,” says Doug Levesque, of the Bible Nation Society, a sponsor of the event.

“It really has been the vehicle that formulated our language and programmed our thinking for centuries. There is no equivalent piece of English literature.”

This particular translation of Scripture is the best selling, most purchased, and most distributed book of all time. All but one President of the United States, Franklin Pierce, is believed to have placed his hand on this version of the Bible while taking the oath of office. Its well known prose has instilled itself into the every day vernacular even in the 21st century.

An excerpt of the resolution reads:

“Whereas many national leaders, have paid tribute to the surpassing influence of the Bible in the United States development, among them the words of Democratic President Andrew Jackson, calling it ‘the rock upon which our republic rests’;

Whereas Republican President Ronald Reagan also said of the King James Bible, ‘Indeed, it is an incontrovertible fact that all the complex and horrendous questions confronting us at home and worldwide have their answer in that single book’; “

The entire resolution and information about the King James Bible Expo can be found at KingJames400.com. The Resolution will be read on May 3 from the Capitol Building at a rally at 5 p.m., along with an historical ceremony. This event is free and open to the public.

An Historic Occasion

by Dr. Douglas F. Levesque, founder The Bible Nation Society

A great celebration lies just before us. The King James Bible is turning 400 years old!Samuel testified, “. . . and the word of the LORD was precious in those days,”. I wholeheartedly agree with the prophet . . .both then and now! The Bible is a precious commodity and deserves our celebrating it’s age, it’s influence and it’s enduring attributes.

Do you realize the King James Bible is older than America itself? Why the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights are only middle aged in comparison. Many would argue that those founding documents had an impetus that was born out of the pages of these celebrated Scriptures. The great scientific ages of industry, space, and telecommunications along with their fruits of factories, rockets, and smart phones came only after the massive distribution of this the greatest of books. It is not just a history book, it is a book that has made history.

No other literature touches the influence of the King James Bible. Soldiers have found hope and comfort in it from the French and Indian wars to the modern day conflicts. It’s well worn pages have been read at our weddings and by our gravesides. Presidents and Kings have quoted from it for aid in domestic disputations, and for clarity amidst diplomatic challenges. Its words, more than any other, are plastered in our public buildings, referred to in our music, and acted out in our movies. It has been etched into our national psyche over these last 400 years, and with good effect. This sacred work has solidified the English language, and spread it’s verbiage across the globe. It truly is the best selling, oftenest read, and most beloved of books.

Much can be said of the King James Bible’s endurance. No book has been more scrutinized for centuries, or attacked by disparate enemies. It simply was made to last. Some have said it is an anvil molding the instruments that comply to it’s shaping, and breaking the ones that try to destroy it. It is worth celebrating!
It really is more than a national icon – it is a worldwide phenomenon! And while it cannot be said that God is an Englishman, it is indisputable that He has made sure English speakers, of every race and continent, know who He is. What a Bible we have! It’s words will transform a person, and enrich a nation. Join me in celebrating this monumental cornerstone of our culture.
